Boston, MA – Despite rumblings that he might give up his Arizona Senate seat in order to campaign full time, Sen. John McCain said today he has “no intention” of leaving his post.

Adding that he disagreed with former Sen. Robert Dole’s 1996 decision to leave his post as Majority Leader and resign his Senate seat upon becoming the Republican nominee, McCain said he plans to remain in the Senate through the general campaign.

“Unless something dramatically changes—which I cannot imagine—the answer is no,” he said aboard his campaign bus–though he joked that his AZ colleagues inquire about his “physical and political” health a daily basis. “I have no intention, no intention, of vacating my seat in the United States Senate.”

McCain is currently serving his fourth term in the U.S. Senate—which is set to expire in 2010. Of course, the Arizona Senator said he will happily leave his post for the White House if he wins the presidency in November.
