Clinton’s Cameo on Ellen’s Show
Monday, February 25th, 2008…or was it the other way around? Daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres dropped in unannounced on Hillary Clinton’s fundraiser at George Washington University — making a live-via-satellite appearance in the middle of Sen Clinton’s remarks.
As Hillary was talking about making college affordable for everyone, Ellen’s face appeared on the large video screen at the back of the stage. At the sight of the Hollywood star waving hello, members of the unexpecting crowd who’d paid $25 and up for a ticket rose to their feet.
“How’s everybody doing?” she asked, telling the NY Senator “I have some tough questions for you if you don’t mind.” Sen Clinton responded, “Well thank you for dropping in, we’ll see you later” — drawing a laugh from the comedienne once she finally heard the joke three seconds later; it took about that long for the satellite signal to reach her Los Angeles studio.
Among those tough questions? A request for a presidential ban on glitter; Clinton wondered what grade school students would do for their art projects, suggesting a ban for anyone over 12. And Hillary asked if Ellen would come to Texas to help her campaign. “I don’t know if they’ll let me out of my job, but I’d love to go,” she said. “Maybe I’ll do this, I’ll just interrupt everywhere you go.”
The whole back and forth was a pre-arranged pre-tape for Ellen’s show tomorrow, but it wasn’t all fun and games. DeGeneres asked some serious questions about the state of the race — even prompting a slip-up from the candidate, who said she was going to win Ohio and Michigan. A moment passed before she realized her mistake, saying “Texas! I already won Michigan.”
