Hillary’s ABC Interview In One Word: Awkward
Sunday, May 4th, 2008INDIANAPOLIS, Ind — Hillary Clinton’s appearance at a Town Hall hosted by ABC “This Week” host George Stephanopoulos didn’t produce much in the way of news; confronted with the fact that economists seem to unanimously oppose her plan to suspend the gas tax this summer, Clinton said “I’m not going to put my lot in with economists” — and dismissed opponents of her idea as part of “elite opinion” that often works against middle class Americans
And she blamed President Bush for allowing a company producing critical national security technology in Indiana to move to China — even though her husband approved the sale to the Chinese in the 1990s — saying the Clinton agreement was premised on keeping the jobs in the United States.
But the interview was notable for another reason — the sheer awkwardness of the ABC setup and the relationship between Clinton and Stephanopoulos, a former White House press secretary under her husband.
