Obama Returns to Iowa - One Last Time
DES MOINES - Barack Obama’s long shot candidacy was validated here with his surprising win in the caucuses that allowed his tentative followers around the nation - many of whom unconvinced that an African American could win - to create what’s become a movement.
Ten months later, the man who’s considered the frontrunner in the race for the presidency returned one last time to thank the state that helped launch his historic bid.
I knew the American people were a decent, generous people willing to work hard and sacrifice for future generations. I was convinced that when we come together, our voices are more powerful than the most entrenched lobbyists, or the most vicious political attacks, or the full force of a status quo in Washington that wants to keep things just the way they are. No where was that truer than here in Iowa. On the day of the Iowa caucus, my faith in the American people were vindicated. And what you started here in Iowa has swept the nation. We are seeing the same turnout – we are seeing the same people going and getting line volunteers – people participating – a whole new way of doing democracy started right here in Iowa and it is all across the country now.
Iowa is truly a battleground state, opting for Al Gore in 2000 and George W. Bush in 2004. This time around, polls show Obama leading John McCain, and Obama is hoping that the state that helped him out early in the election will turn out again for him.
“We have come so close because of you. And that is how we are going to change this country – with your help. And that is why with four days left we can’t afford to slow down, or sit back, or let up for one day, one minute, or one second in this last week. Not now. Not when so much is at stake. We have to go ahead and bring it home,” he said, asking Iowans to “stand with me and work with me one more time.”
This is Obama’s third trip back to Iowa since he became the Democratic nominee.

I just wonder how the hard working people of IOWA will look at the taxes that are going to hit them in the face. Oh yea I forgot they haven’ t seen them yet. Wait until they want to pass their farms along to the next generation or want to cash in their IRA and 401Ks. I is going to be a cold winter in IOWA for some time to come.
Obama is going to win Iowa…get used to it.
These are the misquided people who started the Obama koolaid.

I’m sure Obama is ready for the election to be over so he can go back to church and give a fist bump to Rev. Wright. You think a man would really break the ties of a 20 year relationship because he didn’t here the message Wright was preaching? Wake up Iowa!!, you been had by the golden tongue.
People are walking around in a haze. If and when BO is in office, the haze will slowly drift off & people are going to come to their senses. It will take a while, but when they do, they’re going to dislike him even more so than I do right now. I’ve never been fooled by him, but you followers have & you’re in for a rude awakening. He has lied about pretty much everything, but because he does it so perfectly, you’ve bought into it. McCain may come in a grey, slightly wrinkled and somewhat clumsy package, but he’s a good, patriotic man with strong ethics, principles, and a true sense of morality. Why else would Al Queda want Obama to win? Obama is weak, and he’s a liar. I hope Obamabots don’t have to learn this the hard way, in other words, I hope Obama is NOT elected.
I just don’t understand why people chase this pied piper.
It’s just like on SoupWar.com where you can see people choose many things including a president on emotion. They forget reason.
If Obama is Progresso Soup then McCain is Campbells.
Myself I said I’m a Campbells/McCain kinda guy.

I’m voting for OBAMA and there is nothing you can do about it. OBAMA is going to WIN!!!!!!!
As a Christian (Catholic actually), I am horrified whenever someone tries to use religion as a club for political gain. My personal belief is that Christ would never support this kind of behavior, but even setting that aside, the very nature of Dole’s ad puts human being against human being.
So what if Hagan was an atheist? I may be a faithful person, but faith is personal, and in no way impacts a person’s ability to do good works as an elected public servant.
Dole should be ashamed of putting forth such an ad, and voters should be using their votes to show America that such tactics are not acceptable. You should vote based on the policies of the candidate, and whether you agree or disagree. It should never be based on fear and other negative campaign tactics
For any voters who cannot decide who to vote for, the Republicans like to make up lies about Obama, but they don’t want to tell the truth about Palin and McCain. Take a look at these clips, this is the truth and it is fact, straight from the candidate’s mouths:
John McCain should drop out of the presidential race for these comments. He actually states that he does not agree with what the American people have to say:

Palin, well this short clip speaks for itself:

Official definition of terrorist from Merriam Webster:
ter•ror•ism Pronunciation: \ter-ər-i-zəm\
Function: noun
Date: 1795
: the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion
ter•ror•
1: a state of intense fear
2 a: one that inspires fear : scourge b: a frightening aspect c: a cause of anxiety : worry d: an appalling person or thing ; especially : brat
3: reign of terror
4: violent or destructive acts (as bombing) committed by groups in order to intimidate a population or government into granting their demands
By definition a terrorist is anyone who incites fear and terror through lies, false accusations, and other coercion techniques that are not true. So therefore, by official definition Sarah Palin and many of the McCain/Palin supporters are TERRORISTS who keep creating lies and false accusations for the purpose of scaring people not to vote for Obama. You people must be proud.
Barack Obama is the brightest best hope for our great nation. Do you really think Colin Powell believes Obama is a terrorist? Do you think all the many prominent republicans and media outlets endorsing Barack believe hyim to be a marxist? What about President Eisenhower’s granddaughter. Do you think she believes Obama is radical and has no experience?
Geez, get a clue.
To Charlie: I wonder what’s better… cashing in a huge 401k/IRA with higher taxes or cashing in a tiny 401k/IRA with lower taxes. Wow, hard choice. I probably should leave my 28% tax bracket and go back to 15% bracket b/c that bracket was 13% lower. After all, I did pay less taxes back then, it is true!! Oh those good ol’ days when I couldn’t even afford a decent car… I miss them… not.
Had it not been for Bush, I’d be in 35% bracket today. To you that may sound like a punishment, but to me that means I’m making more money and having more left in my pocket. I’ll pick that over lower income and taxes any day.
This election isnt about Candidates, It is a general uprising against republic party policies
Obama tax plan ? From 250,000 to 200,000 Biden say 150,000 and now the New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson say 120,000? and obama is not in power yet . Wen he does don’t know how low will it go? Maybe under 42,000. Well at least the people that don’t pay taxes are going to be happy. I will do my best to keep my taxes low .I will vote for McCain.
This is what is going to happens in the united states of obama. Reporters cast away , tv stations order to turn off, web pages remove. we might have only one tv channel the obama channel.? His past actions let me believe that this country is going to be turn to a socialist system against our will.
Barack Obama is a thoughtful, careful, smart, engaging man, who really seems to want to bring the country together.
As much as McCain talks about crossing party lines, his and his running mates rhetoric is destructive to any kind of country unity. I have yet to hear them talk about bringing this country together, nor have I heard anything like that from their surrogates.
This country needs us all acting and believing, hoping and responding as one.
Obabma can lead us in that direction.
Yes We Can
Voted early in FL for Obama
Obama is for ethanol McCain is not. Obama is for farmers McCain is not. McCain can not win Iowa for that reason. End game.
I don’t think there will be any fist bumps (get real) The McCain side has been slinging so much mud, they have lost sight of the issues. I can’t wait till Tuesday when we can start celebrating the right choice (by an overwhelming majority) and the right man taking over in 2009, and that will be OBAMA.
One of the major revelations this election has shown us, no matter who wins, is that hateful, small-minded and ignorant people still live in America. For the sake of my grandsons, I pray that these people become more and more of a minority.
The same people who thought that it was no big deal that our president (Clinton) lied to a fedral grand journey are ignoring Obama’s past. god help this country.
It is encouraging that most Americans are not being fooled by McCain’s campaign of fear and smear, lies and distortion, and name calling. Obama has delivered a consistent message of hope for the middle classs, and provided detailed policy proposals for all who are interested in the truth. McCain has responded by lying about Obama’s tax proposals, stupid stunts like joe the phony businessman and “postponing” his campaign to charge into DC and try to take credit for the economic rescue package, trying to link Obama to terrorists, and other despicable behavior. McCain may not have had a chance in the current environment, but he blew any chance he might have had by his ugly, negative campaign and choosing Palin for VP.
these comments are for connie… I don’t know if you are blind or what? But i blieve if you were to look at Barracks grandparents and think that he hates white people. Clearly if you looked at pictures of his mother would think that he would agree with anyone of that type of hatred. Stop believing the MCain-Palin lies…
GET OVER IT ALL OF YOU OBAMA HATERS!!!!!! GET YOUR TISSUES READY BECAUSE AS OF NOVEMBER 2….YOU FAR RIGHT WING NUTS WILL BE CRYING A RIVER. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can dislike the brackets set up in Obama’s plan, but this puts a nail into the stupid “Socialism” coffin.
READ Obama’s tax plan, it is on his website. Those who live VERY comfortably, they will see higher taxes.
The redistribution of wealth is something Palin does in her home state, sending a check to EVERY non-felon citizen living there. That is money from oil *Revenue*, re-distributed from state coffers to the people.
The Bush tax cut is a re-distribution. It is financed with taxpayer money, that is ALL tax payers. And not all tax payers pay equal taxes. So again, same principle.
We have been doing this re-distribution for AGES. And it for the most part was a good thing.
And Senator McCain has vowed to keep the Bush tax cut IN PLACE. Yes you read that right, he vehemently opposed it in 2000, now he is strongly for keeping it in place.
Attack the candidates on merit, on substance. Blindly yelling “He will increase your taxes” is dumb and unfounded. Educate yourselves, then complain armed with knowledge, and on things that matter.
Is Fox News the republican propaganda machine? They’re very far from being a fair and balanced news network. Fox News appears to be breeding hate and division in America. Maybe you ought to try taking que’s from networks like CNN. CNN rocks!! I used to religiously tune into Greta Van Susteren every day 7PM PST without fail. Not anymore, I will no longer tune into Fox News. And I know these a bunch of people out there that are feeling the same way about the so called Fox News. I won’t be suprised if Fox News ratings declines drastically.
he talks about the american people as if he isnt one of them. hhhhmmmm. think about it. when has he ever said that he was proud to be an american and would sacrifise for this country? he hasnt but i have heard him many times say how ashamed he is of the usa and i even heard him apologize to germany for something that the usa was perceived to have done. in good times and bad, one never talks bad and tallks down the usa. obama is not american hes anti americna just like ayers and wright and rezco and the rest. they all share this hatred for the us with obama and michelle and here you people are going to vote him office and spend the next 8 years worshipping him like the god that he thinks he is. really stupid people in usa.
How come my postive commits about OBAMA are not posted on your blog??? Is’nt Fox New network supposed to be fair and blanced??????
Missy from TX:
I wish you were right. But McCain is not a man of ethics any more than Obama is. Keating-5, former pastors that he had to break with, robocalls, divisive politics…
McCain has betrayed his first wife in the worst possible way, and for the worst possible reasons. Now he runs with the far religious right. He broke a vow he took before God.
But I guess any means to satisfy his personal ambitions are acceptable, as long as the facade looks ok?
He picked a VP for her beauty. The woman does not know or understand our constitution! Just today she claimed her 1st amendment rights were being jeopardized by the press! Civics 101, lady!
It is not Country First to pick a VP totally unsuitable for the job, just to pander to women. And men who have wet dreams about her. That is blind ambition and nothing else.
Before the Palin pick and the extremely offensive and divisive advertising, I was telling my conservative friends that I’d be fine with McCain, he has flaws but he’s been a good candidate in 2000. He has burned all of that and wasted the real talent he has.
The McCain of 2000, with a good VP and a meaningful, strong, high-road campaign actually would have gotten my vote.
I now instead take the leap of faith in Obama. And I admit it is a leap, but not a very far leap. The concerns brought forward so far are completely unconvincing to me. I see who Obama’s looking to surround himself with, and it’s an all-star team of very smart people.
We can agree to disagree, that’s cool. But the smears are not doing the McCain camp any favors and it shows in the polls and early voting. That was McCains choice, and it was a stupid choice.
Obama 08 baby
jobs baby jobs
What has McCain done for this country? Nothing and too old to lead anyway.
Guess Obama did not win with the black only vote… Viva Iowa !!!!
You fellas make me laff! Isn’t Palin your kind of Pied Pipre too? Leave us alone to enjoy ours…. GOBAMA!!!!!
You betcha!!!! We love our Pied Piper…. we allow you to follow yours to Alaska. GOBAMA!
Those Obama crazies are in here. We know all about you guys, you are here to intimidate us and get us to believe the race is over. Well….its not working. McCain will win because these polls aren’t correct. They lead Democratic and everyone knows it. If you remember correctly Kerry had a 6 point lead the day of the election…..Bush won by 3. Also if Obama has a double digit lead in Iowa….why is he using the last few days before the election to go to Iowa? Seems he would be in Florida or Ohio spewing his hatred. He is a “uniter” oh make me laugh…he is a divider and is doing an excellent job of it. Whether Obama wins or loses…..this country has lost as there will be rioting and looting regardless of the outcome. And you wonder why gun sales are skyrocketing…..beware America.
To tainopower…..uhm…YES! you SHOULD turn off your tv, and go back to grammar school! To Lindsey from Seattle, I’m with you all the way baby!!! I’m from North Carolina originally….a great state!! She should be ashamed of that smear ad….no matter WHAT your politics, a Christian shouldn’t stoop to such tactics! As a preacher’s kid, I’ve seen it all…..some Christians doing the most UN-Christian like acts….it’s deplorable.
There is going to be 150 million people voting according to the polls. Obama got 18 million of which 12 million was before the Rev Wright stupidity. With ACORN stealing votes this may the last time your vote will count because in 4 years if Obama is in office there is no telling how many votes will be stolen. The only way Obama can possibly win is if the white people stay home. The polls are almost always wrong.
Family here just went early voting, 4 for Obama, zero for McCain. Happy Halloween !!!
We all know Obama’s tax plan CAN’T WORK. So does Obama. Not yet elected, is paving the way to getting out of his promises by blaming his reluctance to produce on the economic meltdown; for which, of course, he can blame Bush. Here is what he said to Caferty.”None of this can be accomplished if we continue to see a potential meltdown in the banking system and financial system. So that’s priority No. 1: making sure the plumbing works.” Sleazy politics at its best!
And we all know, too, that only John McCain and Joe the Plumber can “fix the plumbing”.
All the talking heads on the right say how the Congress has the lowest approval ratings. They also tell that this proves that the misery of Bush years is because of last two years of Democratic rule by congress.
Well lets see what reality say: Republicans in congressional races are getting their sorry behinds handed back to them. What does that say?
This election is going to be a landslide Obama win.
MCCAIN KEEPS SAYING OBAMA WILL SPREAD THE WEALTH. WHEN WANTS TO HOARD THE WEALTH AND LEAVE THE REST OF AMERICA IN THE HANDS OF CHINA AND WATCH OUR COUNTRY SLIP CLOSER TO BECOMING THIRD WORLD.
JUST TAKE A GOOD LOOK HOW THINGS HAVE BEEN TURNING OUT SINCE BUSH GOT IN OFFICE. NEED I SAY MORE? NOT REALLY! BUT I WILL LEAVE YOU WITH THIS MY FELLOW AMERICANS.
I DON’T MIND PAYING A LITTLE MORE IN TAXES IF IT HELPS GET OUR COUNTRY BACK ON TRACK. I WOULD BE GLAD TO DO MY PART AS AN AMERICAN. JUST AS LONG AS THE REPUB CROOKS WEREN’T OVERSEEING THE FUND CHEST! FACIST PIGS!

You call yourself a Catholic? I don’t know what kind of Catholicism you practice. I suggest you go to the U.S Bishops’ website and bone up on the position of the Church before you head for the polls.
As a Catholic you must defend life from conception to birth. How can you possibly endorse Obama when he champions abortion - late term abortion at that?!
Just look at how they have attacked Sarah Palin because she is pro-life. How can you stand back and support such a man?
Not even the feminists have defended her. Why? Because they only support left wing abortionist women.
Once a Thug, Always a Thug! You know who you are!
