Palin Makes Her SNL Debut

NEW YORK—Sarah Palin walked into the lion’s den this evening and appeared on Saturday Night Live.

Tina Fey playing Palin opened up the show depicting Palin’s first press conference. After several questions from her “press corps” Fey then told the journalists gathered that she “would like to entertain everybody with some fancy pageant walking.”

The show then switches to backstage where SNL Executive Producer, Lorne Michaels is watching Fey’s performance alongside the actual Sarah Palin. She asks Michaels why he wouldn’t let her impersonate Fey on her show, “30 Rock.” Michaels joked that no one watched it anyway.

Alec Baldwin, Fey’s co-star on “30 Rock,” walked up to the two and confused Palin for Fey and told Michaels that Fey can’t go out on stage with Palin because, “she goes against everything we stand for.”

After Michaels introduces Baldwin to Palin, he tells her that she is “much hotter in person” and Palin responds by saying that that Alec’s younger brother, “Stephen is my favorite Baldwin brother.” Stephen Baldwin is a born again Christian and a conservative Republican.

The two walk off arm in arm together before Palin comes to the podium to shout, “Live form New York it’s Saturday Night!”

Palin also popped in on “Weekend Update” and told Seth Meyers that she decided against the sketch they practiced. Amy Poehler took the reigns and performed a hilarious, but edgy rap combining all of Palin’s greatest hits and stereotypes: the Bridge to Nowhere, seeing Russia from her house, her running mate’s smile which is described as “creepy,” and obviously moose hunting.

Poehler was joined by cast members playing a dancing Todd Palin and eskimos while the Alaska governor sat at the desk smiling and dancing along including a back and forth with the dancing cast where Poehler raps, “When I say Obama you say Ayers. Obama! Ayers! Obama! Ayers!” referring to Palin linking the Democratic nominee to 1960’s radical William Ayers.

Many were anticipating Palin to take Fey on and imitate the comedian in her American Express commercials, but the two look alikes did not have any interaction except to walk past each other once. It did show a lighter side of John McCain’s running mate and yesterday she told reporters that she looked forward to the “the opportunity to show that sense of humor” which she did, but whether there will be any movement in the polls from the two short skits does not seem likely.

The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee went to the show accompanied by her 18 year old daughter Bristol, Senior Advisor Tucker Eskew, Press Secretary Tracey Schmitt, and John McCain’s closest advisor Mark Salter.

I don’t think it would have been a good idea for them to speak to each other seeing as Fey has said she wants to be “done playing that woman on November 4th” and promised to “leave this world” if she and McCain were elected. She probably will be done playing her after the election, and then SNL will go right back to the ratings basement.

Palin was a big disapointment….You Betcha.

Sarah did a good job on SNL. They are a hard group to face and she handled it well.

I don’t know that there is anything funny about having Sarah Palin the potential VP of these United States. She should go on tales from the crypt or twilight zone. Her performance lacked anything worth reporting and it looked like much of her scripted stump speech.

How about that 175,000+ that Obama brought in to his two events? That was cool!

I cannot believe how BAD “Saturday Night Live” was tonight. I haven’t seen it in years, used to love the original players in the 70’s and 80’s. It was BEYOND PATHETIC tonight, I was waiting for the laughs to come… The segments with Palin were demeaning to her, she is above all that, and way too classy for that genre. All the political contents of the show were extremely insulting to her as well. The commercial breaks were ALL of Obama and some were negative McCain bashing ads. He has spent so much money to BUY his Presidential Votes. What a shame Sarah Palin had to endure such a mockery. Now I remember WHY I NEVER watch the LIBERAL BIASED mainstream media nor do I watch the MINDLESS TV channels of CBS, NBC and ABC anymore. I ONLY WATCH CABLE and especially FOX NEWS CHANNEL, which gives BOTH SIDES, fair and balanced. Obama is trying to Silence the Press so that there are NO Negative comments of him or positive ones of his opponents. I feel like it is Al-Jazeera TV in the Middle East, proganda where there is NO truth, only LIES and spin. I sure hope that the people WAKE UP and smell the coffee, we are in deep trouble if we get this radical MARXIST SOCIALIST LIAR in the WHITE HOUSE, along with a Democratic-Liberal Congress, Senate and Speaker of the House Pelosi. God help US all! The terrorists will have a field day planing their next attack to our WEAKENED COUNTRY…

I was also mad that SNL would have Palin on and validate her in any way but after watching it, they are very clever. She appeared to not even realize that she was furthering her image as an extremely unqualified person to be the leader of the free world. SNL very cleverly skewered her. Maybe she realizes she is going to lose the election and wants to try to get in with the show business types. Don’t boycott SNL for having her on. SNL was brilliant. I think the GOP are probably dying inside about her performance tonight. It is the final nail in the coffin of the McCain campaign. They are toast.

Comment by I can see russia from my house

Yawn, she was boring yet-hateful, and the rest of the show ripped her apart as usual.

Comment by KAREN

This says a lot about a person, when you can reach out to those who ridicule you and say bad things about you, how you can show that you are not a person of hate or meanness, What a great lady and what a great Vice President she would make.

Comment by clair

If Palin on SNL is classified comedy, what’s she going to do for an encore. That was the most pathetic attempt at comedy I have seen. They may as well have brought a moose on. I still say send her back to Alaska where she belongs, Maybe they can appreciate her attempt at comedy. Thumbs down.

Amy Poehler was amazing!!!! Poor Sarah Palin was a dumbstruck deer in the headlights gettin the big diss from the youngsters.

Since NBC and FOX (News Corp) are partners in Hulu, I’m quite surprised at not finding a Hulu embed for Governor Palin’s appearance.

What a joke!
Ms Palin had no role to play and just stood there dumb!

What a “Celebrity” (which I gather from the McCain camp implies all style-no substance)

It’s funny how Palin doesn’t seem to have a problem with the ‘liberal media elite’ when it doesn’t involve asking her questions or investigating her background.

Fey has done more interviews AS Palin than Palin has with any REAL news organization (ie not the softball throwing Fox News Corp)

Comment by JJD

Did she realize she and her “campaign” were being made fun OF during both sketches?
It was like watching a live pig get roasted. With lipstick. That was cringe-inducing….but I loved it. Enjoy your 15 minutes Governor.

Comment by tammy

I am glad that I did not watch the show. Fey acts like an immature itiot and she does not even look like Palin her face is to skinny and her attitude is childish!!! Maybe she needs some prescription drugs from a doctor or maybe some blow from a Obama? Or maybe she could just blow the freak and big lips, big hips could give her an extra hit!!!!!

Comment by rich

Has Palin yet been able to string together three coherent sentences on any relevant topic? Until that happens, why should the country take her as anything but a republican joke?

Comment by John Miller, Ohio

I used to like McCain.

But I CANNOT vote for him because of Sarah Palin - a Palin presidency would be a terrible desaster for the country.

Comment by Joy Broadhurst

Why am I not surprised she wouldn’t do the SNL skit? What she did was boring. . . boring. Didn’t see the humor, looked uncomfortable, and didn’t do anything to improve her standing in the public eye.

Comment by Linda Shaw

Go ahead Sarah and give the liberal media more permission to make fun of you…

Comment by Linda Shaw

Let’s let the Liberal SNL CREW PICK OUR NEXT PRESIDENT.aFTERALL THAT’S WHAT THE MEDIA IS DOING ANYWAY…

Did you see SNL?? They made a fool out of Sarah and she just smiled throughout. She didn’t even seem to be aware that they were making a fool of her. I am disgusted.

Comment by Chicago Deb

I thought it was a disappointment after all the hype and I was surprised that they skewered her so much while she was actually there. She just smiled away as if she was unaware. Even mocking herself how she doesn’t take questions from reporters. I don’t think it made her look good at all. She wasn’t even funny.

SNL – WHAT A GROUP OF LEFTISTS SHOWED UP TO WATCH SARAH MAKE A FOOL OUT OF HERSELF. TOO BAD SHE WAS SMARTER THAN YOU THOUGHT.

Can you believe the “W” star comparing himself and Bush as NOT being qualified for the Presidency…. What a group of loons that group is – did Josh grow up around Streisand or is that just the water in Hollywood coming out? What humor was shown when Tina Fey gave her opinion as to how smart she was in comparison to Sarah Palin and their mutual qualifications for the Vice-Presidency?

What have these Hollywood types done for America other than provide the comic relief for a few moments from our daily stress? Dang, if I wanted political guidance, Hollywood is not the first place I would look.

All of the attempts to put the Governor in a bad situation have failed in the long run. She has shown good sense, resiliency in nature and a good heart. What a great choice for running mate. Now is we could just get John McCain to get on base, we could save ourselves from the Liberal Supreme Court that is coming (if we don’t win).

What a lack of humor was exhibited by SNL. I will admit it has been a long time since I tuned in last, but now I remember why. The level of the skits is so rank and low that I could not imagine why anyone tunes in. The only real humor was the parody of Sarah Palin; although they used a hatchet instead of a scalpel. Someone forgot that a lot of something is not always the best way to convey the humor. A little of Tina Fey is hilarious, too much is not.

Great Job Governor…what a class act … Living life as an ordinary American, she is a wonderful sport and I am so glad to have her as a Republican on my side.

Comment by Pat

Sarah’s was just great! I’m not surprised there’s no comments or huge media hype on Saran’s appearance on SNL, she’s a Republican. And I’ve never seen so many green-eyed women in my life. LOL If a Democrat-Liberal, her skit would be blasting on commercials all over the states.

Comment by sallie

“….In the end the Palin candidacy is a symptom and expression of a new vulgarization in American politics. It’s no good, not for conservatism and not for the country. And yes, it is a mark against John McCain, against his judgment and idealism….”

this quote above is from the ultra-conservative WALL STREET JOURNAL ON OCT 17.

Palin continues to be a fool and a shallow and terrible candidate choice.

would like to know why all negative facts regarding Obama seem to be swept under the carpet. He has a history of aligning himself w/types that are wrong for someone who wants to be in power of US, which he would be and who knows what kind of characters he would associate w/then?

Comment by mona

I think that Sarah Palin was a bigger person than any of the others that poke fun at her.

Comment by Joni Fuller

I love Sarah Palin. She has such a strong character. I can only hope that my daughter can learn from her and become a strong woman and strong American and know that if she sees injustice that she can do something about it.

Before Sarah Palin, I often thought of running for Mayor of my city. I see so many things that need to be fixed, but I always abandoned the thought because I thought, “who am I”. Now I see that I too can make a difference. Maybe I will not run for mayor, but I can certainly take a stand and point out shortcomings in our city services and offer suggestions.

Thanks Sarah.

Comment by Walter Everitt

I think it took a lot of courage to go on a network who gets off on mocking and saying ridiculouse things about you Sarah Palin is patrot and an honest person whom the American people could trust, the media needs to back off of their one sided coverage of Sarah and let democracy work.

Comment by jack kimberly

Govenor Palin with an 80% approval rating in her home state, she exibited her sterling qualities of honor and integrety,a sense of humor. Alec Baldwin showed class when he refused to walk on stage with Govenor Palin and whats her name. Sarah is a super lady!!!!

I loved Sarah Palin on SNL. I thought it showed her comic side. When she was dancing during weekend update I could not stop laughing. I loved her before and I love her even more knowing that she is just a regular person who loves a good laugh. I think this was a good move for her and her long road to the white house.

Comment by AllenTexas

When will Sarah Palin stop embarrassing herself?

Comment by GladysMP

Sarah Palin has a sense of humor. Experts have said that is a great asset for a President, since humor helps relieve tension during very tense times. Sarah is far more experienced that Obama and would make a good President should the time come.

In all honesty, I voted for Obama in the primary voting, but I am already so sick and tired of his endless boasting that I will not be voting for him in November.

When I hear McCain speak, I hear a man who loves his country. When I hear Obama speak, I hear a man who loves himself. Listen to both and you will agree.

Comment by Joe Fegley

It was safe! I think she could have done another skit and been fine! I thought it was interesting that Brolin went right ahead and bashed McCains age. It just showed how little respect the left has. I sincerely doubt that they would have made fun of Obama’s ears if Biden was guesting. Please note: I am not making fun of Obama’s ears. I bring them up because Obama himself made fun of his ears at the Al Smith banquet the other night.

Comment by Army Wife

If you have an opinion, here is your chance.
keep this moving quickly…

PBS has an online poll posted, asking if Sarah Palin is qualified. Apparently the left wing knew about this in advance and are flooding the voting with NO votes.
The poll will be reported on PBS and picked up by mainstream media. It can influence undecided voters in swing states.
Please do two things — takes 20 seconds.

1) Click on link and vote YES!

Good Morning America and Sarah Palin is what we need! I hope that she is not cast away after the elction if Obama wins. Obama, if you win you have a bright eyed young woman that you would be able to count on. I think she is so quick witted and mostly intelligent. Applauds, and May the Lord pick the President!!!

Comment by JP

Sarah Palin Rocks! At least she has the guts to show up and take the heat. Palin for President!

Comment by AntiPalin

Palin looked like a scared rabbit trapped in a corner last night. I think she was a little carisma, but she is not intellectually ready to be the President.

Comment by pat

what i saw last night was how the country is laughing at sarah palin because she is an idiot that thinks to highly of herself. she is a cutesie ,like a teenie bopper but god help us if she were turned loose in the oval office. i love tina feye and palin should take a better look at tina as well. this is how the world except for fox news sees her!

Comment by G. Marshall

Sarah walked into the Lion’s Den. Tina Fey would like to retire the Sarah Palin character, and I say, “Please do.” For the good of any reasonably attractive woman who may consider running for office in the future. Fey was funny the first couple of times. It’s such a stretch now, that the humor is lost. Instead, we see some people actually believing the parody because they do not watch anything but SNL–I personally don’t see how they stay awake.

Tina has really set the women’s movement and respectability for women so far back.

Comment by Terri - WA state

I graduated high school in 74. I watched SNL for many years - until it went from funny to boring. I watched it last night because of Sarah Palin. I stuck around for a few more skits…weekend update… they were awful. I doubt there will be any “best of” coming out of SNL in the near future.

Sarah Palin did fine — but they made her a bystander in her own sketches — guess they couldn’t figure out a funny way to have her face off Tina Fey. I had my doubts that Sarah should have wasted her time on SNL. She did waste her time, we all did. They really stink.

Comment by DBrewer Ohio

I grew up wtih SNL and they have always made fun of political figures. I think Sara Palin is a class act and I am proud of the job she did last night. She really does seem to have a sense of humor but I was impressed by how she was not intimidated by anyone on the show including Alec Baldwin. I like the idea that although she has the intellect for the position of Vice President, she also has been where I have been. With a family, a layoff of her husband and having to wonder how they will maintain health insurance and house payments. I think her common sense will be refreshing in Washington.

Comment by Karen

Didn’t watch Saturday Night Live last night, and I haven’t for many many years. This show needed ratings because nobody ever watched it, and without Sarah Palin their show would be nothing. Anyway, after the hype of Sarah Palin, I expect Saturday Night Live will be canceled!!!

Comment by Betty Clayton

I stayed up last night to watch Saturday Night Live because of Sarah Palin. I am a great admirer of her. I was disappointed in Saturday Night Live. I thought they were supposed to be funny. I found very little to laugh about and the only real talent I saw in that group was the girl that sang. She is wasting her talents with a no-talent group like Saturday Night Live. There was a time when I liked Alec Baldwin, but he also is a very big disappointment.

Comment by Anewamerica

Sarah looked like a fool. What an embarrassment to Mccain and the Country! She’s a horrible VP pick, if Mccain loses she will be the sole reason.

Comment by debbie

I am surprised by the comments above from Palin supporters. It’s almost as if Ms. Palin is more interested in publicity for her future entertainment career than in the job of VP of the USA. This did nothing to make her look smarter - quite the opposite. The joke was on her and I think her party will suffer for it.

Comment by Working Minnesota Mom

Sarah Palin needs to make a debut on Meet the Press or another serious news orginization. This woman is running for Vice-President and she has NOT come out to answer serious questions that voters have of her. It’s no wonder that most people question her ability to lead. Even conservatives have serious reservations about this woman. I really question McCain’s judgement with this VP pick.

Comment by Rob Spear

My God, could Palin possibly be a bigger dope?

Forget SLN, the biggest joke about Palin was told by McCain: “My friends, she is qualified to be President.” Another joke he likes to tell: Country First!, was made more funny with the selection of Palin. In truth, McCain couldn’t have more strongly signaled his willingness to put the good of America behind his own ambition than he did the day he selected Palin.

Actually, if the allegations of terrorist ties to Obama turn out to be true, and if an Obama Presidency turns out to be bad for America, McCain will deserve a lot of the blame. Why? Because what McCain has done with and since the Palin selection has guaranteed Obama will win. ACORN? Ayers? The country is smarter than he thinks and sees through his nonsense.

Comment by fittinguy

The entire McCain campaign can be summed up by Colin Powell’s statement;
But he said McCain’s choices in the last few weeks — especially his selection of Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska as his vice presidential running mate — had raised questions in his mind about McCain’s judgment.

“I don’t believe [Palin] is ready to be president of the United States,” Powell said flatly. By contrast, Obama’s running mate, Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware, “is ready to be president on day one.”

I concur!

Hey, “Joe Bob”….You do know who Ronald Reagan was, right?
Once again , shallow thoughts from shallow people. Look at the whole picture in depth.

Regardless of the outcome of the November 2008 election, Sarah Palin has shown us
that she is a true lady. She not only has a true sense of humor, she has shown that
she would be an asset in Washington D.C. God knows that bunch needs all the help
they can get!

Comment by QuakerDave

The McCain/Palin crew can’t get much right, and this was just the latest example. They THOUGHT that her going on this show would show her to be a “bigger person,” and instead they just set her up for more ridicule. She looked more than a little uncomfortable at the desk while the hip-hop thing was unfolding around her, for example.

“Class act”? Nope.

Freak show.

They just proved the truth in the joke she’s become.

The SNL groupies are such sick nuts, Sarah Palin puts them to shame. She has more class than all of them put together. I only watched as long as Sarah was on which was my first and last time to punish myself with that show.

Comment by Donna West

I think everyone here is in agreement (with the glaring exception of “pat”, who clearly has a crush on Tina Fey) with the fact that Sarah Palin is a class act and we could do much worse by electing Obama/Biden. How can NBC, SNL, and most “news” shows get away with such bias when it comes to what should be unbiased and balanced reporting and “entertainment”? Have they been brainwashed by the “great and powerful” Obama as well? Unfortunately, most of the uneducated fools that continue to pay attention to these leftist factors are going to vote for bomo actually think he’s going to help them. They’re in for a rude awakening as well as a mother of a letdown.
