Palin denounces Wall Street “greed” to big money donors

NEW YORK  — Chalk this up to either speaking truth to power or not knowing your audience.

During brief remarks to a big money joint fundraiser in New York City Tuesday night, where the GOP ticket took in nearly $9 million from some well-to-do Manhattanites, Gov. Sarah Palin denounced the “greed”  of big business.

“We know that all across America right now, there is a lot of anger, there is frustration, there is anger with…the dealings with lobbyists there in DC, the greed of Wall Street and some of the arrogance of the Washington elite,” she said to a nearly silent group of about 300 donors.

While both Palin and John McCain have railed against the “unbridled greed” and alleged corruption of Wall Street for weeks, which usually plays well to audiences on the campaign trail, but the crowd of business executives gathered in the hotel ballroom did not have the same response. The fundraiser took place at the Grand Hyatt hotel, less than four miles from the New York Stock Exchange.

Palin, who was reading from a prepared speech that seemed more geared towards Main Street, received a more positive response for her call for energy independence but again brought the room to near silence and actually earned some hisses when she took a sharp, sarcastic shot at Obama on Iraq.

“If you’ll notice our opponent goes on and on in speech after speech about the wars that America is fighting and just once I would love to hear Barack Obama say that he wants America to win,” she said mockingly.

For his part, McCain avoided any criticism of Wall Street and stuck to the state of the campaign during his remarks.

“My friends, there is three weeks left. We have come a long way in the last couple of years,” he said, recounting his unpopular decision to support the surge in Iraq. “And the reason why we are going to win this election, because the American people know the difference between rhetoric and record. They know the difference. “

He also very briefly previewed the debate: “I want to do about half as good as Sarah did against poor old Joe Biden,” he said as a handful of supporters shouted “take the gloves off.”

McCain ignored the calls and instead transitioned to a wistful line about his gratitude for being able to represent the Republican party.

“It’s been a great opportunity. What an honor, what an honor, what an honor to be the nominee of the party of Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan,” he said, adding, “what an honor it’s been and what an honor it is.”

I doubt that Palin can be any worse than Teddy Roosevelt when he railed against the big corporations of his time. She doesn’t mind taking on the big guys.

Unfortuneately Palin seems to think she is running for prom queen rather than VP. I am saddened that she completely doesn’t understand… Republicans deserve more The country deserves better.

Comment by Catherine R

Palin keeps talking like a broken record about anger at Wall Street, anger at corporate greed. I’m glad NYers hissed and gave her the silent treatment while she was berating them. i bet they want their donation money back. what a complete buffoon she is.

Bam & Biden will rule nov 5

The Gov from above needs to answer her own issues like her husband wanting to have Alaska not be part of the USA, Troppergate, and perhaps take on interviews from CNN and MSNBC to show she is not afraid and a real Maverick instead of being a puppet for McCain and the GOP. Create some credibility for herself and not just read a script then she might get respect and honor with her stump speech. Be fair and balanced Sarah if you’re going to represent Fox news as it appears you are trying to do.

Comment by Louis

Sarah Palin is without question the dumbest candidate since Dan Quayle. Great choice John.

Comment by michael

The Real Sarah Palin: I am happy to support someone who will “listen to the people” and wants to work for the people. Sarah Palin is warm, loving, honest, and for the people and not big government. She will help clean up the “pork” in Washington. She is not one of the “good ole boys”. She is like the average American and knows what America wants. She listens and acts, and she is not just talk, talk, talk. She is truly a remarkable individual. She had to work hard to get where she is today.

Comment by Catherine R

Palin the Pitbull biting off the hands that gave her lots and lots of fund money. You go girl!!! i’m so proud of you!!!!

Haha, just kidding, Palin’s a idiotic loon.

Comment by joe bev

Not everyone one Wall ST. fit into her definition of WallSt. greed, yet she still insults everyone in N.Y.

Comment by Dawnlondon

Good for Sarah. I like someone who is not afraid to say what they think regardless of who they are talking to. There is no use pandering to one party and then saying something else to another. Barack Obama does plenty of that.

Comment by Cathy Goodman

She only has one speech….that’s all the campaign staff has written for her. At least she’s consistent . Sounds stupid all the time.

Comment by Mike

I love Sarah. She seems to be the most efficient member of Obama’s team. Everytime she approaches the microphone, I know Obama is getting closer to become the President.. And I give that credit to our dear Sarah. Bless you, governer.

Comment by Judy

Palin is a complete embarrassment to the Republican Party. Can’t help but think what MIGHT have happened if JSM had picked someone…..anyone else.

Comment by Phil55

Wow, it’s great to see even FOX readers are starting to figure Palin out. Who is she to try to conjure up ghosts from Obama’s past when she has so many of her own. If you want someone that is “one of us,” why not just go all the way and nominate Larry the Cable Guy? If McCain was thinking Country First, he wouldn’t have nominated her.

Comment by Rae

Most of these comments sound so very immature. Palin knows her politics check the record for yourselves.
She is more experienced than Obama and the ones who fail to see that are the ones who vote for socialism, because that is what Obama stands for.
Also just for the record Obama can’t even take on his own party, at least Palin talks truth and does not back down.

Comment by TWG

Catherine R sounds like you are very jealous? Gov. Palin is speaking the truth, it only matters who is present to those who are attempting to manipulate. She wore her colors on her sleeve and not hiding and dancing around the issues! I understand most Lib’s are not accustomed to this practice, but I hope you learn to become familiar with it when McCain/Palin win and they turn this ship around. No nonsense. Will the Lib’s have a candidate? Berg vs. Obama wow! I hope this is a bad joke as it would speak very poorly of this country. Glenn you might be the one who would make a nice prom queen? You sure have a lot of hatred for a nice person and she is pretty too! She hasn’t done a bad job in Alaska either for having no experience. She would probably be good for this country.

Comment by James

Palin the pittbull puppy gets more pathetic as each day passes. Her take on troopergate was worthy of Joseph Goebbels, except that Goebbels could have pulled it off more convincingly. It’s way past time for Klondike Barbie to take her aw sucks shtick and pyscho-rage politics back where it belongs -she’s a disgrace to American conservatism and American politics.

Comment by Cinn00

Good for her…at least she didn’t say one thing behind their back and another in front of them…that is called two-faced. Like Obama does, panders for votes, then talks about people clinging to their guns and religion behind their backs.
Obviously, she believes what she says and isn’t scared to say it.

Comment by Amber

How sad that McCain/Palin always feel the need to use the name of Reagan in their speeches to get any credibility - it’s the only bright part of their speeches and then when all is said and done you realize that what stands before you is nothing like Reagan at all - just a couple of duds!

McCain and Palin are on the way to losing the campaign and foxnews is helping every step of the way with their ludricrous news items - you’re the only ones that would think of putting Jeremiah Wright on your website now! Not throughout the campaign but now - oh yeah McCain/Palin are down big time in the polls. It’s not because there is any substance to the story you just feel the need to incite more hatred and rage among the conservative base! Good fair and balanced reporting foxnews - you never fail in your real agenda!

YOU RELIZE THAT THE LIBERAL DEMOCRACT’S HAVE BEEN POOR LOSERS FOR THE LAST THREE DECADES.

1980 - REAGAN 8/YRS AS PRESIDENT
1988 - VP GEORGE HW BUSH ELECTED PRESIDENT - ANOTHER 4/YRS
1992 - BILL CLINTON 8/YRS AS PRESIDENT - WELL 6 1/2 BEFORE HIS IMPEACHMENT STARTED
2000- GEORGE “W” BUSH 8/YRS
2008 - WILL SEE ON ELECTION DAY

LET’S SEE -

REPUBLICAN’S - 20/YRS
DEMOCRAT’S - 8/YRS - WELL 6 1/2 YEARS

WHAT A BUNCH OF LOSERS….

NOW THEY HAVE A CANIDATE THAT THE FIX WAS IN STARTING TWO YEARS AGO, AND THEY STILL CAN NOT CLOSE THE DEAL…

IT’S AMAZING HOW JUST TWO YEARS AGO BEFORE THE “DO NOTHING CONGRESS” TOOK OVER - THAT UN-EMPLOYMENT WAS AT IT’S LOWEST IN THREE DECADES.

STOCK’S AND WALL STREET WERE AT AN ALL TIME HIGH.

AND NOW JUST BEFORE THE ELECTION THE STOCK MARKET CRISES AND EMPLOYMENT RISING. THERE ARE FORCES AT WORK HERE THAT ARE NOT IN THE BEST INTEREST’S OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

Comment by Josh

It’s sad when you have to be so rehearsed in what you say, that you don’t even realize that you just criticized the individuals that are giving you almost nine million dollars. To me, that would be common sense to leave that part out, but she is just so set on sticking with what the writers have given her that she has no mind of her own. Is that really what we want in a possible vice-president or worse yet, president? It’s time for McCain and is aides to cut the strings and let her show the world who she really is.

Comment by Geo

Obviously, Gov. Palin does not realize their are rich republicans as well as the “leftist elite” on Wall St. She really does not get it. In regards to this financial crisis, it was the “shadow banking system” or unregulated investment banks that have caused republicans to look into their very soul and realize that they are responsible for the largest “social program” ever established. $700B (by their estimates) to bail-out lenders who deviated from practical lending practices for the bottom line. The way I see it, it was capitalism against democracy and capitalism won . . . again. We are leveraging our future just as these defunct invest banks leveraged theirs. The bill should have never been passed and we should be taking our “medicine”.
Don’t tell me this administration is not responsible for our situation. They have had control of congress for six of the last eight years along with President Clueless. Government budget controls expired in 2002 and nothing was done to rein in spending. We now have war(s), increased spending, a bail-out and a country that is completely different from the one my grandfather knew. I hope my children will truly have the opportunities I have had and not be strapped with mountains of debt before they even graduate from high school. Who are the socialist? Both candidates say that taxes won’t be raised . . . how do we pay for all of this? Oh yeah, I forgot, we will just sell more treasury bonds to China. Lets borrow until we are “shut-off” by our “lenders”. Please give us a leader with common sense and the courage to return this country to its roots and greatness.

Way to go Sarah! It didn’t matter to you who gave the most money…what mattered is what the majority of the people you are representing are experiencing, and being part of that majority, I want to thank you! You really do care about putting the government on the side of the people, wish others would care as much as you do.

I would like to ask all of you that have contributed comments that are dishing Gov. Sarah Palin, by either calling her names and/or degrading her in so many disgraceful ways, how many of you have either been a mayor of a town or a governor of a State of these United States?

All of you who have nothing with any substance to say other than something disrespectful are nothing more than immature, and your own disabilities and lack of character come out in the words you spiel off in these blogs.

How many of you, who hide behind your computer screens with your choice of weapon being your keyboard, have ever stood up face-to-face or toe-to-toe with the hand that feeds you and told them that what they have done or are doing is wrong and needs to be corrected? My guess that it would be none of you ever have!

Maybe this woman, Gov. Sarah Palin, has more grapes than any of you, be you a man or a woman, and she is not afraid to fight for (or say) what she believes is right.

I, and many of my conservative republican friends, can only feel sorry for you and your lack of substance and knowledge about the important issues and policies regarding this upcoming election. That is why we are supporting and voting for the McCain/Palin ticket.

Go McCain/Palin - show them all how it is done!

Honest talk isn’t always popular especially when it is rather exposing…BUT SHE IS RIGHT!

Why pretend the greed of big business people isn’t part of our problem.
I’m glad to hear Palin told them right to their faces despite their donation to the affair.

Get this …….Gov. Palin had these executives pay to hear how much she is sick of corruption!

No one can say she plays to anyone’s music but her own convictions!
What guts!

Those in the room who are free from dishonest and greedy business dealings have nothing to get red in the face about.

Maybe if honest folk keep ruffling the phony feathers of self-serving businesses long enough we might be able to be real again.
It surely isn’t going to happen by continuing to nod in the money direction.
Go get them Palin.

Comment by Puuahi

I’d rather the Palin bite someone than continue to see Obama through his past relationships and organizations under the bus. At this rate, when Obama losses his bid, he will need to move from his existing residence. He has thrown almost everyone that lives on his street under the bus.

Comment by Andrew Stetkevich

The above comments are all out to lunch. It took Sarah Pahlin 5 weeks to compete on par with Joe Biden who had 35 years of experience and participated in multiple presidential debates. When writers call people names, they will don’t have a valid argument.

Comment by Puuahi

Sarah Palin when presented with the opportunity to kiss the azz of millionaire wall street businessmen instead rails against them. Same thing we all want to do but never have the chance. She is truely fighting for our rights. lol they gave 9 mill anyway. Fight the fight

Palin is the best choice for this country, let’s get back to our roots. Back to real people that can actual identify with the common person. I believe Sarah is that person along with John McCain. No manner how hard I try I can’t identify with the lawyer pair of Obama and Biden. And I don’t believe they can identify with our problems and needs.

To Michael:

Are we talking about the same Sarah Palin, or the idiot who just named his child Sarah McCain Palin! Sarah Palin has a husband who runs the government, you don’t really believe she does it do you? He is with her at all cabinet meetings, this was confirmed from a republican from her state! If McCain/Palin win, I will be scarred of her! After all she was found to have abused her powers by 10 republican and only 4 dems. Oh wait, she said she was found not have to done anything wrong. Just wait till the Palins get into washington

Comment by M from Texas

Palin is truly a joke. It won’t matter what McCain says or how well he does. As long as he has Palin on the ticket, he doesn’t have a chance. McCain wasn’t putting country first when he put such an unqualified, vindictive, arrogant, and dumb person on the ticket. Palin is a disgrace. Obama and Biden will be the very best this country has ever seen.

Comment by John H

Is John McCain counseling her AT ALL???? How can he let her continue to make these huge errors in judgement? It almost appears that he knows this is a lost cause for him and he has thrown in the towel! He would be better off announcing a blow-up doll as his running mate.

This woman is truly a utter moron!!!

I think that S. Palin should stop campaigning. She has done so much damage to the campaign, especially among educated conservatives. McCain is a great candidate and he has a lot of experience. He can win this election without her help!!

THIS IS THE PERSON YOU WANT A HEARTBEAT AWAY FROM THE PRESIDENCY….

Comment by Nancy

It is quite embarassing to me, when most comments on Sarah Palin are results from total or partial ignorance, jealousy and childlike behavior. Let’s get real! America is viewing a real person who aspires to make a difference in the American culture. She is on an appointed purposeful mission. She has no fears like David did not fear Goliath. THere is a divine confidence that ptoves to be comforting and inspiring. There is no better place on the earth than America.
We want to keep it that way, beginning with some real valid issues about life. faith, family, community, economy, poverty, medical issues, the elderly, our abandoned children, freedom and the list goes on! Stop bashing at the candidates. Look at the real issues of your personal life. What are you doing to better this marvelous nation? Do you serve? Do you volunteer? Do you care? Or is all about the sAME parallels that grieve our nation? It’s ALL ABOUT ME! And I want it NOW! Look deep down at your heart. We need to go back to basics, to our first love.
What is the meaning of life? Who created us? Why did He create us? Only God is the answer, only HIM can provide true happiness. Let His SOn redeem you from all your sins. His Son Jesus Christ John 3:16, Absolutes that are permanent, everlasting, it bears fruits of Peace, Joy, Kindness, etc…
If my people which are called by my name will humble themselves I(The Great IAM) will heal their land! Plug in to what really matters in life! God is in total control!

Reading these comments make me realize how Democrats/Liberals are so blind . They believe Obama and his rhetoric and want to condemn Sarah for standing up to the faces of BIG BUSINESS!!! You want to call her stupid and arrogant . I believe she is real . She means what she says and she honestly wants to do what is Best for this Country!! IF you believe that is what OBAMA represents then you are in for a rude awakening. IF he wins this election( God Forbid)!! HE will tax the working class people back to the seventies and Jimmy Carter economy times(check the recessions of the seventies, you that aren’t old enough to remember). Obama is going to give money to nonworking. nontaxpaying people more than ever before in our nations HISTORY. WHO will pay for that?? THe working class!!! Middle class.Obama is talking about the middle class people hurting but he is not one of us . Sarah Palin is!! Do background checks on all of Obamas campaign leaders and the people that he is “seking advice from” , also people he has chosen to put in place IF he becomes president …..that is all that America needs to do.CHECK THESE PEOPLE OUT!!!!! They are scary and have of them are responsible for our economy being the way that it is. RESEARCH

I listen to all the ranting about Sarah Palin and I have to laugh, first off she has one of the only states that is no longer in debt, she has the only state that sends her people $1,200.00 checks, she has the only state that made the big oil companies hire her state people to work on their pipe line. She faught to clean up Alaskas political parties and she seems to know how to balance a check book. So far Obama thinks 18 billion in pork is nothing, it comes out to 56 million per person in OUR country. So if 18 billion is nothing then why doesn’t congress cut checks for the 300 million legal citizens and mail them out so we can do what they can’t and fix our economy, after all it is nothing as far as spending goes.

Sarah Palin can only speak from prepared texts. She didn’t do well against Joe Biden, she responded prepared answers to questions that weren’t asked. She only exceeded expectations because she spoke in complete sentences. She isn’t refreshing, she is using the oldest strategy in the book, fear. She single handedly lost this election for the republicans.
