Dem Murtha: Western PA ‘Racist’ but Obama Still Wins State

In an interview with The Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Rep. John Murtha (D-PA), a long serving congressional lawmaker for Western Pennsylvania, opined on the 2008 PA political landscape.

“There’s no question Western Pennsylvania is a racist area,” said Mr. Murtha, whose district stretches from Johnstown to Washington County. “The older population is more hesitant.”

“I think Obama is going to win, but I don’t think it’s going to be a runaway,” he said. “I think he wins Pennsylvania.”

John Murtha shame on you for bringing race into this election… If you wanna check why people are voting for Mccain go here… and by the way, Obama is the one who refused to accept his mothers race for quite some time….

All McCain has to do is not point out who Obama is attracted to but who is attracted to him. Show the basea; Jackson the Jew hater, Murtha the milatary hater, Wright the racist…. When and if Obama is elected all these nuts will be all over him just by the very nature of who he is, just like when my dog does his buisness in the yard it attracts flies just by its very nature.

Now if that isn’t a poke in the eye to PA. They are now raciest, gun toting, Bible thumping, and they can’t see Obama is black as they are going to vote for him or was both Obama and Murtha speaking about the blacks? Makes you wonder if either of them has enough brains to come out of a hail storm. It does not matter who they were refering to they are ignorant and insulting.

Shame on you Senator Murtha, you don’t know what westen Pa is about, The Obama campaign has made this a racial issue and you are not smart enough ti defend the state that you represent. Retire, let someone go to Washington and represent the wonderful people of western Pa

I live in W. Pa. I couldn’t care less if he is purple with green polk a dots. Color doesn’t matter to me. Politics does. He is pro choice. I am pro life. I will not vote for him. AND I will not be ‘guilted’ into voting for him just so people won’t think I’m a racist.

You know that 17.5 billion in pork that Obama said was nothing at the last debate? Well it works out when divided by 300 million people in the U.S. to 56.6 million per person. How many years of your paycheck would it take for that amount of money? Most of us would be in our graves before we made that, so here’s an idea, since Obama thinks it is nothing have congress stop spending it on what they want and cut each of us a check for 56 million and we can bring the economy back on line. After all Obama himself said it was nothing.

With all do respect to everyone. What is so surprising about a man of color able to lead the country, better than another? Come on people we are in America. We go to work,to war we take care of your families most of the time better than you all do. That is why, it not surprise that Palin should get out of the bed on day bring a new baby in the mists of millions of germs let alone the noise factor, and the air conditioning. She is difinately, not a parent, that care about family. He daughter needs her more than ever now. She is afraid. Mccain is so negetive until any respect that anyone has for him has been shot down the drain. He reminds of a child in school that cannot think for himself. The respect that Senator Obama has as human being stands out. What does hockey have to do with problems of the people? It is not hard to help solve the problems providing we pull to geher as a nation. bump all excessive cramp we want and need all of us.We can and we will get through this crisis.Put our ideas on the table. Stop fighting long enough to stand up and be counted. Thankyou for the opportunity to speak up. We do not have to close businsses. I will not put my ideas over the internet. I have over forty years of experience in changing the communities all through the U.S. It can be verified.

“The day will come when a man is judged not by the color of his skin but by the content of his character.” — Martin Luther King, Jr.

Senator Obama has no character.

If not voting for Obama is being a racist, does that mean that blacks who do vote for him are racists as well?

What’s the response when the shoe’s on the other foot?

Comment by RE

Remember, Murtha, being “racist” doesn’t just mean white people not voting for a black man because he’s black, it also means black people voting for a black man just because he’s black (and thus being against the white man because he’s not black). So yeah, Mr. Murtha, I’m sure some of both of those things will happen, here and all over the country. But I don’t think it will happen any more so here than anywhere else. There goes a vote for you, Mr. Murtha, and no, I’m not being racist against you, because I’m white.

Comment by scott

So, if his state is racist and he represents that state what does that make him?

Comment by Cucufate T. Catral

You have to look at Obama beyond his color and also beyond his promises. You have to look at the man, into his soul, his character, his judgement, his past record and accomplishment/s, his friends and associates and then look at yourself in the mirror and see where you belong. Cucufate T. Catral

Comment by Allison

pitiful Pittsburgh…….guess it MUST be racism if you are not voting for Obama

Comment by Cucufate T. Catral

When I heard Obama say he is going to eradicate poverty by one half in 10 years I did not know that he was thinking of spreading the wealth of the billionaires and the millionaires, of that tax burdened plumber in Ohio. Maybe if we have more rich people and more tax burdened plumbers, he would probably eradicate poverty 100 percent. Cucufate T. Catral

I agree this Area Is Racist I live just North of Pittsburgh and have seen it in other states as well. I mean people I work with i never would have dreamed was racist came out when asked would you vote for Obama and the slurs came out i was shocked. I didn’t think it was still that bad but i have seen this as of late especially. People are saying that they would go to Canada If Barack i elected. I think thats sad. I truly do. I dont care for Obama cause he scares me a far as knowing what do to when something really big comes down the pike. It will too i strongly believe that other countries are waiting to see who gets in to attack us again. One no way they would back off the other yes they would because he does not have the knowledge and foresight to stop this. Its a scary time. One way i think would spell disaster for the country the other we will be just fine. I like McCain always have and he pick of Sarah Proves to me the man knows what hes doing. Hes strategic and smart. Does he have a uphill climb yea huge cause of Bush. But Mccain is not Bush far from it. Any thats my 2 cents i have seen the bigotry first hand and frankly it shocked me i never saw that coming.

I am not a racist. My friends are not racists. That said ,we will not be voting for Obama. He is an empty suit ,no experience ,no leadership abilities ,influenced by less than desirable people. He wants to raise taxes. In our present economy ,that is the worst thing that could happen. He speaks of “wanting to spread the wealth around”. Bad idea.He is so pro abortion that he will see that it is wrtitten in stone. Pray hard that everyone on the Supreme Court stays in wonderful health. You don’t want any judges that he’ll appoint.

You are absolutely right!! The Obama campaign has turned this election into a vote on race. Noone mentions that 96% of Black Americans are voting for Obama. Are they Racist? The nation is being primed for the case that if Obama loses it was because of the color of his skin. The man has no credibility on any issue and is the ultimate washington elitist. His campaign has been media driven from day one and will continue to election day. I am no fan of Hillary Clinton but when the Obama campaign tried to paint her and Bill as being racist that was one for the ages.

Comment by Sharion

Perhaps the greatest show of racism is the mainstream media. They don’t believe Obama is capable of winning the election without their interference. If every American voter were able to hear all of the info regarding Obama, his policies and his associations, only the extreme left would be voting for him.

$17.5 bil divided by 300 mil people is $58 per person, not $56.6 million Kay. The $700 bil bailout costs $2,333 per person. The US is $10.3 trillion in debt, or $34,333 per person (more per taxpayer). When McCain holds as a primary objective saving $58/person/yr, a task he has failed at, he’s missing the big picture and those who think he’s right aren’t good at math. As for racism, the crowds headed into Johnstown to see Palin would shock most Americans and it’s not unpatriotic to draw attention to that public behavior.

we’re racist, no, not us, the blacks are racist, face it, when nothing or anything goes their way, they blame it on being slaves, but they really have no idea what it is to be a slave! hey ,if you want to call us racist, well go ahead, we just don’t give a da- anymore, we just don’t pay any attention to it, it’s old it’s an excuse, thats all it is!

Comment by ruth

but, i’ll tell you one thing, most of us do like our guns , to protect us and our families in our homes, our bible to go to when we need some reason why! and lets face it, sure we like a beer once in awhile! well, i’m not really a drinker, but thats pa. and we love our state! na, thats not true, i like to go out dancing at least once in, what ,three years! darn!

Comment by ruth

Dis gusted, in texas- it’s not us , it’s the blacks that like to play the race card when nothing goes their way, they need something to blame for their faults, so it’s the race card!

Kay-

i’m not an Obama supporter, and whether you think 17.5 billion is a lot or a little is a matter of opinion (how much is a ‘lot’?)

BUT ….

If you’re going to convert it to a per capita number, do the math right: 17.5 billion/300 million = $58.33/person

Comment by I am a Racist?

I live in Western PA and I am not a racist. I do not know any racist, but I do know that there is a prejudice that spans race and ethnicity in Western PA. I here the slurs, both black and white, I hear the ethnic slurs, and yet we all seem to continue living and working in harmony. We have a long history of being blue collar, of immigrants migrating here in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s because the jobs were plentiful, the work was hard, and the pay let you live a good life providing you went to work and worked all the available shifts you could work. Blacks, whites, Pol’s, Italians, Germans, Catholics, Jews, Protestants; did not matter, what mattered was that you were a good worker, a man or woman you could count on to be there.

If you work hard, do your part in the community and do not live off of the public dime, most W-PA citizens will accept anyone, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity. Murtha is just stoking the race flames to justify Obama’s “Robin Hood” plan to take from the have’s and give to the have not’s.

Comment by Angela

I live in W PA and am embarassed that this man is still in office. His thinking is antiquated and I am sorry that this is newsworthy. Murtha has no basis for these generalized comments. I take great offense to his insinuation that if PA doesn’t elect Obama, then we must be racist. That is ridiculous! I was born and raised in W PA and can honestly say that alot of people were raised to think the Democratic party was the only party. Alot of distasteful tactics have been used for years to scare people into voting by party only. That is the only explanation I can find that he holds an elected office.
Murtha likes to keep himself in the public eye by making controvesial statements with no basis of fact.
He made a name for himself nationwide when he made accusations about illegal warfare in Afghanistan. He never apologized to the servicemen when they were proven innocent.

Comment by Walt, Belton,TX

Perhaps some people refuse for vote for an incompetent, even if he is black. That is just as true as the fact that some people would refuse to vote for McCain, even if he was black. Personally, I intend to vote for McCain because he is the least worst!

Kay– 17.5 billion divided by 300 million = 56.6 million? Are you serious? LOL!!!

It’s $58.33. You’re off by a factor of almost a million. Wow. Unbelievable.

$17.5 bil divided by 300 mil people is $58.33 Kay. The $700 bil bailout costs $2,333 per person. The $10.3 trillion US debt is $34,333 per person. A centerpiece of McCain’s campaign is to save us each $58/yr, a goal he’s failed to accomplish for years and that pales compared to other economic challenges that need to be addressed by the next president. Anyone who watched online video of the people headed in to see the Johnstown McCain-Palin rally could not deny the blatant racism of dozens of people who, by their actions and the inactions of others, defined a large part of the crowd. Racism is never irrelevant. Calling them out on it is not unpatriotic and has nothing to do with who people vote for.

Comment by Rags

Murtha proves yet again that he is a senile Congressman, who should have been put out to pasture years ago. His attacks against the US Marines on Haditha were unconscionable and never apologized for. Now he attacks the very citizens he is in Washington to serve? Watching him at a press conference is scary.

Comment by MAC

Seems to me that Murtha is insulting his own state! It also seems to me that he could be mouthing himself right out of a job! Murtha is white! If they vote him out and replace him with a really great black conservative will they still be called racist? I think the beautiful state of Pa can do better then this! How soon is Murtha’s seat open? it just isn’ t big enough to hold his mouth anymore!

Obama is a disaster in the making! It’s not race that keeps us from voting for him, it’s the fact that he is a blatant liar! Go back and check his voting record! Also Acorn record.

Oh ya! Not that it matters, I am from Illinois! When I say the word, DISASTER, I have witnessed this matter first hand!
