Biden Recalls Run-In With The Law in Ohio

Athens, OH -- AP Photo

Athens, OH -- AP Photo

ATHENS, OH - Joe Biden revealed his dark, dastardly criminal past at a community gathering in this southeast Ohio college town - or rather, a youthful misunderstanding that nearly landed the future Democratic Vice Presidential nominee in the clink.

“It’s good to be back in Athens!” the Senator told a student-heavy crowd at nearby Ohio University. “Now you say ‘back in Athens, Biden? When were you here? ‘Well I went to the University of Delaware and we came out here to play Ohio University.”

“That was 228 years ago,” the former Fightin’ Blue Hen joked. It was actually October 19th, 1963 — when U of D defeated OU 29-12 on their way to an undefeated season and a small school national championship.

“Now I made a little mistake here that day, I made a little mistake,” he continued. “I met this lovely group of — Ohio University students,” he said with a long, long pause in the middle. The cheers of the young crowd showed they understood who he was talking about: college girls.

“I shouldn’t admit this on national television because it’ll reveal that I’m over 60, but I thought that we were gonna go get something to eat,” he said. “So I just said to young, two young women I had met, said well why don’t you — we’ll be right back. I said, well I’ll come with you, and they said okay.”

“And I walked into their dormitory and was immediately accosted by a cop who arrested me,” he said to laughs.

“Back in those days men were not allowed in women’s dormitories,” Biden explained - but he insisted his virtue (and that of the girls in the dorm) remained intact.

“I promise you I never breached the first floor and it was only a temporary detention. But that’s what I most remember about Athens” he chuckled. “So folks, look — it’s good to be back here.”

Hey Joe you better get back to business the Iraq Government just agreed to extend the need for
U.S. Troops to remain in Iraq until 2011. I think this is a little longer than your boss was stating
that the Iraq government had agreed to keep them. Wasn’t that some time in 2009 or 10 at the latest? geesh now the Iraq Government is harping on you guys, well that is just RACIST isn’t it?

Nice lie for Biden. At least it is not PLAGRISM again like his buddy Obama accused of PLAGRISM too but of course his friend told him to use it. Right….

It is funny Obama and Biden both accused of PLAGIRSM. If they will America will be cpying the rest of the world instead of leading.

Hey Sarah Palin–see if you can distort this and use it as an attack. “Joe Biden palled around with co-eds in college and even entered a female dormitory. Is this the conduct of a leader?” No…just the conduct of someone who has been to college and thinks science is real.

Comment by M-X

Wow, I have never seen the words dark and dastardly being used so freely in my life. But on topic I am surprised he didn’t get 5-10 years for this dark and dastardly act of perversion.

Comment by Pamela

Pulitzer prize winner Charles Krauthammer writes on the subject of Obama sitting with Ahmadinejad…
….
“Obama pretends that while he is for such “engagement,” the cowboy Republicans oppose it. Another absurdity. No one is debating the need for contacts. The debate is over the stupidity of elevating rogue states and their tyrants, easing their isolation and increasing their leverage by granting them unconditional meetings with the president of the world’s superpower.

Obama cited Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman as presidents who met with enemies. Does he know no history? Neither Roosevelt nor Truman ever met with any of the leaders of the Axis powers. Obama must be referring to the pictures he’s seen of Roosevelt and Stalin at Yalta, and Truman and Stalin at Potsdam. Does he not know that at that time Stalin was a wartime ally?

During the subsequent Cold War, Truman never met with Stalin. Nor Mao. Nor Kim Il Sung. Truman was no fool.

Obama cites John Kennedy meeting Nikita Khrushchev as another example of what he wants to emulate. Really? That Vienna summit of a young, inexperienced, untested American president was disastrous, emboldening Khrushchev to push Kennedy on Berlin — and then near fatally in Cuba, leading almost directly to the Cuban missile crisis. Is that the precedent Obama aspires to follow?

A meeting with Ahmadinejad would not just strengthen and vindicate him at home, it would instantly and powerfully ease the mullahs’ isolation, inviting other world leaders to follow. And with that would come a flood of commercial contracts, oil deals, diplomatic agreements — undermining precisely the very sanctions and isolation that Obama says he would employ against Iran.

As every seasoned diplomat knows, the danger of a summit is that it creates enormous pressure for results. And results require mutual concessions. That is why conditions and concessions are worked out in advance, not on the scene….”

Dastardly? (quick definition: cowardly and malicious)
The only thing dastardly in this article is the perspective of the “reporter”. I encourage all those who read this and feel further encouraged to vote McCain/Palin to review the actions of a younger John McCain in response to the Keating hubbub some 20+ years ago. It would be more appropriate to use dastardly (along with a long string of other adjectives) to describe his conduct. As for sneaking into a girls dorm…Biden only breached the first floor. A lesser man would have waited in the street.

Comment by SALLIE

Joe Biden is a decent and smart guy. He has been a terrific and POSITIVE team member for Obama, unlike Palin, who has humiliated and emasculated her runnning mate. He has enhanced his party’s ticket….while she has destroyed her party’s ticket.

Senator Biden is going to be an excellent VP!

Comment by Jerry Ulibarri

Palin has stories like this too. They’re just not suited to public forums

Comment by Obamanation

Why is this being reported? I find it useless. Talk about distracting voters from the real issues…

Comment by BK

Love the objective reporting of foxnews…

“dark, dastardly” is in the header just so you can see it on google and idiots will believe it. Without reading the content. He tried to sneak into a dorm room…

Wow, that’s pretty dark.

Pretty objcetive columists too. There are 50% more blogs on this website about Senator Obama, than there are about McCain. I wonder how many of those are pro-Obama.

Comment by nathan

The “gahering” misspelling at the beginning is something only a blow-hard org like Fox could think is OK.

Biden is a “regular guy” of his generation, much like Sara Palin is of hers. The difference is that Palin was repremanded by her own state for ethics violations, which she interprets as being “cleared” Seems that Palin does not consider ethics violations wrong. That scares me. She scares me.

“dark, dastardly criminal past” ? Now are there still people in America to think this network is more than pure propaganda ? Come on guys, a little amount of journalistic objectivity would hurt sometimes…

Comment by billbb

It’s called a joke. I understand that we have to keep explaining the difference to Republicans, because J. Sidney McCain tells such lame jokes and S Louise Palin IS a joke.

Now don’t make us explain it again.

Comment by Steve

Steven, amazing that you don’t see how this Biden story is being portrayed. The title of this article is as mis-leading as any attack on Palin. Replace “Joe Biden” with “Sarah Palin” in the first sentence and tell me if you get my drift.

Now lets focus on the real issues.

Ha ha ha….

I am reminded of the story John McCain tells about when he was mixed up with some college girls.

You see they were caught mingling around the moat together and McCain was placed in the Iron Maiden!! HAHAHAHAHhahahahaha!

John McCain is a veteran of the Iron Maiden, can’t you see why he’s qualified to be President????!!

Comment by MindOverEmotion

‘Dark and dastardly’? Honestly, I can’t quite figure out whether or not this article is supposed to be serious, but the title, the ‘dark, dastardly’, and the ‘clink’ bit would lead me to believe that it is. If it is indeed serious, are you really questioning someone’s character based on his accidentally walking into a womens dorm facility decades ago? If it isn’t serious, what is the point being made here, aside from somehow trying to make ‘news’ out of the ice-breaker story Biden used to open a speech?

Comment by lmatt2

I’m old enough to understand the humor. I attended college in those days. Hey…it wasn’t met to be serious. It was a speech opener just like McCain and Palin give. I trust Obama and Biden and their advisors with the economy and other national and international issues more than McCain, Palin and their advisors. Go Obama and Biden!

Comment by ST

hahaha keep getting angry ^^^. you guys are gonna lose anyway

Comment by JT GET A DICTIONARY

JT,

That old, failed, attempt to accuse Obama of plagiarism is so utterly lame. Can’t you come up with something better than that?

And even if it were true, plagiarism is nothing compared to the bald-faced lying we are seeing from the McCain/Palin camp.

Palin: I’ve been cleared of “any hint of unethical activity”

The report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower concluded that she ABUSED her power as Alaska’s governor, and VIOLATED STATE ETHICS LAW by trying to get Wooten fired from the state police.

I GOT A CAPSLOCK KEY TOO!

Comment by ADAM

I think that it’s a funny story but what I don’t understand is that the republicans just can’t argue about the real issues. All they can argue about is what he said and who he talked to 40 years ago.
Please take a deep breath republicans and open your eyes and focus…. I mean FOCUS
Look at the issues that our country is facing and see who is actually responding to the current challenges in a positive way. Let’s put aside our differences and let’s pick the guy who is explaining his position on critical issues. Vote for Change America because we are sinking!!!

Comment by Rae

This is politics? Palin gets trashed for anything and everything.

People usually do that to people who are in the right.

Then you get Biden who from his own mouth tells a story that is supposed to be funny? Sorry can’t find the humor here when this is a man running for the 2nd highest office of the Nation.

For those who are afraid of Palin, she is not afraid of you!

Comment by eric

To Steven
what kind of comment is that? Sarah Palin did abuse her power. Its a proven fact come to by a bipartisan committee, initially started by one of your beloved republicans. I know its hard because GOP is probably so ingrained in you personality you would vote for them if they nominated a cheeseburger. Just accept it, she guilty and if she was a democrat you guys wouldn’t stand for it in any way. Sorry but the double standard has to end somewhere where republicans can do no wrong

Comment by Jon D>

Hahahahaha. Fox news. Funny, funny Fox news. College boy tries to get in college girls dorm room… ranks right up there with a Nixon-like abuse of power, doesn’t it?

All I can say is “Bye, bye Republicans. You had your chance and, like every time since 1928, you’ve done your best to ruin the country. See you later. Much later. How about 2024? Yes. That sounds about right. See you in 2024″.

Comment by Obamanation

Biden got arrested 50 years ago?!?! What next? are we going to find out that Obama broke the laws of this country when he used drugs? Wait a minute, we already found that out when Obama admitted he was a loser druggie in his book. What kind of character is a guy like that who uses drugs because he is lacking something in his life? This is not the character of a special person who deserves the presidency.

As a Republican - I think I am going to pull the lever this time around for the Democratic Ticket. Mainly because, I just dont know where John McCain stands, and also, I have not heard enough from Sarah. I dont know why John’s Mc Cain has kept her from the press and I think unfortunately, Ayers is not enough to derail the Dem ticket. And to be perfectly frank, I had to stop watching Sean, for he harped to much on Ayers. But I will be back next time around to vote Republican.

Has anyone noticed how soft FOX News has gotten. In a recent story they said “John McCain has grossly misrepresented if not outright lied about Obama’s tax policy”. They also ran a story listing a bunch of conservatives that have moved over to Obama.

It’s like an alternate universe.

Comment by S. Heath

I don’t get the point of this story — seems to me it is not worth mentioning! Maybe it is just trying to make Biden look more human! Sorry, but it isn’t BIDEN who needs to be made to look human. It is his running mate! You know, the one that not one person has come forward who knew him in either high school or college! Now THAT is a story that would be worth reading since so far not one person remembers him from college or high school and not one person has come forward and said what a nice guy he was!

I’m voting Obama because I’m listening to true economic experts, not Phil Graham. McCAIN said “when I need advice on the economy I just turn to my good friend Phil Graham”. That was before Dr. Phil said that Americans are a bunch of whiners and McCAIN threw him under the straight talk express.

In the last debate McCAIN was asked who he would turn to on the economy and the first nbame out of his mouth was an Obama advisor.

McCAIN doesn’t need to know anything about economics. Cindy is worth over $100 million dollars and she holds the checkbook.
