LAT/BLOOMBERG POLL: OBAMA 50, McCAIN 41

One day before the last debate, and more discouraging news for the McCain campaign. A new national poll showing a 9 point lead by Sen. Obama.

FROM LAT:

With fear about the economy driving voters his way, Barack Obama has broadened his lead over John McCain and strengthened his hold on key groups both candidates are courting, a Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll has found.

Three weeks before election day, Obama leads McCain 50% to 41% among voters likely to cast ballots on Nov. 4. In September, the Illinois Democrat had a narrower 49%-45% lead.

You think that McCain will be beat…don’t count on it! Everyone said Bush would not win his second term…Everyone thought McCain was left for dead during the primary. Well Lord and Behold Bush won his second term, McCain won the Republican primary he came up from behind lake a snake in the grass and clinched the primary. The best think is don’t count him out just yet, remember America always loves the underdog. America will pick him up and will carry him across the finish line…just wait and see!

Obama has definetively more credibility than McCain. He represents the American Dream. People around the world are going to admire us for choosing Obama as our president and Biden as VP. I feel kind of sorry for Palin it seems like the only person who doesn’t see the emptiness in her mind is her. she keeps repeting the same thing she has memorized, she can’t come up with innovative, solid and strong arguments and always looks rehearsed. Somebody should tell her that politics is not for her.

polls don’t mean anything anymore, look at past elections. i think most intelligent people just do the right thing and ignore them. we all know that most of the main stream media is in the tank for obama. so once again it does not matter what they say, they poll more democrats than republicans anyways. we’ll see how bad it really is when the elections are over with. until then the main stream media needs to shut up about obama winning this election by a landslide. more and more people are getting pist off about this and are going to attempt to prove them wrong . should be fun to watch!

Comment by josh

^^^^yes, done during working hours, and also done on 90%+ landlines, so they skew much older as 18-25’s often just have a cell phone.

Get it.

Comment by TexasTommy

If people weren’t “afraid” to say they will vote for a non-white presidential candidate, Obama would be above 53%, and I think well above. This has become the United States of Fear, and all the tough talk is just additional proof.

Comment by Sally Mae

Thank you Sarah Palin , thank you for ruining Sen. McCain’s campaign :(

Comment by Ken Klyberg

I have been following both candidates closely, I have had to consistently switch media channels to get any kind of true sense of what is really going on. I will never trust the news media as a reliable source on anything, If I had my way CNN, MSNBC and the likes should be boycotted until their sponsors caught on and pulled out, a good dose of capitalism would calm their desire to cater to socialistic ideals.
It appears to me that the associations of Barack Obama are important. I get a sense that he truly would like to radicalize our youth, redistribute our wealth, and create an america that he can believe in, not the one I grew up to hold as the ideal. I work long hours, travel extensively to provide a lifestyle for my family, I cannot believe that someone can be so shallow as to believe it is fair to garnish what I have achieved through my own determination and sacrafice to give to those with less ambition.
Finally, I would really appreciate the media letting us know who were the members of congress that felt it necessary to tack on $180 Billion to the $700 Billion rescue package, that was nothing less than extortion and they should be exposed.

Comment by Tim in PA

All of the major polls show Obama taking the lead, even Fox News.

But, don’t worry, Obama will accept you just the way you are when he takes office, even if you hate him and (deep down) the color of his skin; and, I promise not to say “I told you so”.

Comment by Tim in PA

Al Council, the source is the LA Times and Bloomberg. Not, the NYT.

Comment by ldh

They poll ~ 1,000 people & say it represents the nation. Plus, I’m sure the liberal NYT selects the people to poll totally at random - right . .

If there was a Republican organization that polled 1,000 people & claimed that McCain was ahead by 10%, it would be just about as valid as the liberal organizations attempts to discourage Republicans from voting.

The polls are all over the place, yet everyone that I know still plans to vote for the same person they were going to vote for 2 or 4 weeks ago.

Comment by proudrepub

After the debate last time CNN admitted that their pollsters had polled more democrats than republicans and more than a disportionate amount of blacks. They justified the numbers because they said their polling represented the makeup of America. Where were the Hispanics and Asians? That’s not the first poll that I have heard the comment made that “well there were a few more democrats polled”. One of the polls today said that they only polled 1000 people. It’s is unbelievable the deceit that is being presented to unknowing Amercians by the press and TV talking heads.

The comments being left here are beginning to reiterate the hate being spewed by the Republican party. This is a sad state to be in during the 21st century. Does anyone remember their history? The Pilgrims left England and came to American for religious freedom. We fought for that right and it is in our constitution. How disappointing that people are still fostering hate for color or religion. John McCain is losing in more ways than one. He is losing his honor and integrity by allowing the hate. He is losing this campaign because he has lost his honor. What a sad state of affairs. We need to put the hate and bigotry behind us, join together and make this a proud country again and I believe that Barack Obama is honestly work for that goal.

If anyone is interested, please read (beyond FOX news) the articles regarding the election of George Bush in both 2000 and 2004. HE DID NOT WIN! Because, unfortunately Democrats tend towards decency and honor, they did not fight this to the extent that they should have. Bush was handed the key to the White House illegitmately. Please stop the hate!

McCain is a good men and and excellent candidate. He has defended Obama during his rallies. On the other hand I do believe that Sarah Palin has done a lot of damage to the campaign. She helped in the beginning, but unfortunately she is not ready to be a leader and every time she speaks in public more and more conservatives get afraid of her becoming the VP. I do not know why McCain did not choose Mitt Romney…

50 -41?
Acording to most recent state by state polls, Obama right now has
more than 270 electoral vote to win. In fact he has over 300 votes, even if you
exclude OHIO, N. Carolina, Missouri, and Colorado.
Unless something enexpected happens (Mc-Pal dream), Obama- Biden will sweep the country and they will win big. They might even carry Arizona !!
Right now, MacCain’s lead in AriZona, his home state is less than 10%.

McCain dug his own whole, first by going along with Bush in the , past 8 years and then made a bad dead wrong mistake by choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate.
He sould kick himself in the foot.

Comment by tb22

If you support McPalin, you are a bunch of egocentric fools, and will be responsible for running this great country further into the toilet. Furthermore, if you want to judge a person by associations, than you should apply the same logic to McCain serving and working alongside people with virulent bigoted pasts like Sens. Jesse Helms, Strom Thurmond and Robert Byrd? He was never a “Maverick” in those situations!

If you are happy with the current situation of America then go ahead and vote for the same administration that is responsible for it!

However, I see America as imperfect and in serious need of change, and McCain agreed with Bush 95% of the time that leaves a margin of 5% change, that is just not enough for me!

Go Obama and Biden 2008, win and make our country better again!!

The comments being left here seem to put all the Hate on republicans. What about the Hate that spews from the democrats? I guess they just distance themselves from the Sarah Palin is a C*#@ shirts. I have seen McCain publicly correct people who questioned Obama’s patriotism, calling him a good man with a different view for the country. But I have yet to see Obama correct any of his followers for the horrible things yelled out about Palin & McCain. And I have never heard more hate than that which spews from all the associations that Obama has. Why is it just accepted, when he says I dont want to comment on that it is just a distraction. Or when Wright gets too radical he can just distance himself and thats OK with everyone. That hate had been seen before just not seen by us. That hate makes me seriously think twice about punching the Obama button. Which will never happen. I think there is plenty of blame to go around in the negative campaigning but only one guy is carrying the blame on his back. Hardcore conservatives at first didnt like McCain because he worked across the isle on things, I personally think that shows that he knows what it takes to make the United States of America work for everyone.

if Obama is actually in the lead then it’s brings new insight to the results that drug and alcohol abuse has done to the people of the United States! that’s the ony thing I can think of that would make American’s as ignorant as they apparently are at this time. But then, you can’t put too much stock in the polls anyways…. :]

I do not realy believe in the polls, they have been straight out wrong to many times. But I will say this , even if Obama wins I for one will never back him in any way under any situation. I do not believe he is a either true or honest in fact I believe him to be FOUL. Obama will at verry least bring us to an all time low. Yes even LOWER than Bush. Not because of race or evin being a dem. He is flat out a Liar.

how and where they conduct these polls affect the result. how many did they ask? 1000? — the media is yet again declaring obama the winner so when they count the votes in crucial states where acorn is conducting voter fraud, the nation will believe that he won fair and square. they did these with hillary. that is the game plan–we are being set up to accept the result and not raise heck.

I have been a republican all my life and I have supported the Republican Idealogy. But, recently I find myself embarresed to be called a Republican. McCain is a Great American and a proven American War Hero, but he is focusing his Campaign on personal attacks against Obama instead of targeting the issues that Americans are really concerned about. This strategy is now taking its toll on his campaign because Obama is looking more and more Presidential with a positive mindset. Even the Fox Polls are showing the trend away from McCain. There is only three weeks left. McCain can still win if he can steer away from the attacks and focus on the Economy.

There are so many fallacies with your reasoning that I don’t even know where to begin. But, I will attempt to address the most obvious error you’ve made. These polls are ostensibly considered ‘double-blind,’ which means that there is not room for the pollster to knowingly skew the results. As such, the poll would provide accurate results within its ‘margin of error,’ which would normally be (approximately) 3%, given the parameters of this type of poll. So, this poll would be considered ’statistically and scientifically valid,’ given the information provided. Read a book, please. You’re truly making yourself look uneducated.

“Reflections”

The political dam is about to break. There will be a flood of voters to the Democratic Party and its presumptive President Barrack Obama! Immediately after tonites debate the undecided will leave that status as their minds snap shut in support of Obama. Tonites contrast will be all that is wrong with Washington contrasted with all that is right with America. McCain vs Obama. The Republican big moneyed or evangelical homesteads will flood with no bail out in sight, no October surprise, no Palinific retort can save McCain or his base. McCain is now the man and republicans the political party that …..nobody can trust. ….. Trust!….. Heck gosh darn we here on the mainland just do not understand these complicated issues, bail out, 2 wars, job loss, gas more precious than Jim Beam. What we do know is how to look another human being in the eye listen to what they say and make an instinctive decision on whether we can trust the speaker. Trust. We do not trust John McCain with our future. Barrack Obama we trust. So fellow democrats and our new friends the no longer undecided, sit back and watch the debate tonite, That noise you will hear and feel is the rumble of deciding voters and the collapse of a once major political party. It will be the greatest show on Earth. I’ll bring the popcorn.

The first poll out today (Oct. 15 - Zogby/Reuters/Cspan) has Obama only ahead by 4 points which is within the margin of error. All polls showing a significant lead for Obama are pro-Obama polls eskewing the statistics. In addition, yesterday Rasmussen only had Obama leading by 5 points. So the race is clearly tightening up, but we need to stop Obama’s ACORN group from stealing the election for Obama in all the swing and battleground states. Stop Obama and his ACORN group now!!! Also the pro-Obama media needs to stop suppressing Obama’s negatives and smearing and character assassinating Governor Palin on a daily basis like they did to Hillary. As Joe Biden and Hillary said, Obama is not ready to be President. Governor Palin has more experience than Obama. In addition, Biden said he would be honored to be on the same ticket with McCain. He didn’t say that about Obama.

Like most americans I agree with some of the priciple ideals of both parties. The problem is that the republican party doesn’t practice what it preaches. The say democrats are big spenders but if you look back at the national debt over the past 50 years it increases dramatically or doubles or triples under republican leadership.

Republicans say democrats tax and spend, while in power republicans just borrow and spend. Which is worse? Under republican presidents the economic growth is half that under democrats. Job growth is less than democrats. GDP is less than democrats. When will they realize that cutting taxes and increasing spending doesn’t work?

I believe that John Mccain deserves to be the president more than Obama after his lifetime of service I also believe he would be the better president. However, I cannot vote for him due to his age and health and his awful choice for VP. I do not want Palin as president. It was insulting for him to go pick any woman he could find in politics to try to steal hillary votes anyway.

John Mccain is not like president bush, but the fact is people are ready for a different party. It’s par for the course if you look through history. eight years is enough. Republicans had a golden opportunity to become the dominant party in america and they blew it by not even following their own so called beliefs.

There is no correct answer in politics. Republicans aren’t wrong. Democrats aren’t wrong. They each hold ideals that have worked for the country throughout our history.

Regardless of what party the candidate is for, both John McCain and Barack Obama are great ones.

John McCain is a great man whose had a long history of serving our country, and doing what’s best for the people. He’s made great sacrifices and would make a great leader for our country in a time of need. He’s not just an angry old man, he’s sincere and kind, and will continue to do amazing things regardless of the outcome of this election.

Barack Obama is not a socialist and his ties to radical groups are blown out of proportion. There’s no way he would have gotten his party’s nomination if he were a “radical socialist.” He would bring a young, fresh mind and new energy to Washington. He’s a great speaker and a good leader and would pose as a great face for the United States.

Honestly people, stop with the petty bickering. Both Republicans and Democrats have poor grammar at times. Yes, all polls, regardless of where it comes from, have indicated Obama’s taken a lead in several battleground states.

Take a step back and evaluate your own ideals. Try not to be so blinded by the fact that you grew up in a Democratic household, where you were taught that Republicans are bad and blue is the way to go. Do research. Go to BarackObama.com and JohnMcCain.com. Read their policies, their arguments for why they should President. If you’re a Republican, don’t only watch FOX News. If you’re a democrat, don’t only watch CNN.

Don’t just accuse people of not being an “intelligent American.” BE an intelligent American. Make an educated choice; not a blind one.

The man asked Obama, “Why do want to raise my taxes? My business makes more than 250k a year.”

Obama “It’s not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they’ve got a chance for success too,” Obama responded. “My attitude is that if the economy’s good for folks from the bottom up, it’s gonna be good for everybody … I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”

So now we need to pay for those who made bad choices on loans. Bad choices on education. Bad choices and starting families before they could afford it. Funny how he talks the talks but doesn’t walk the walk.

Truth Obama gave little to charities. Truth Barrak and Michelle do nothing to help anyone unless they get $$.

Truth Cindy McCain has donated, sits on charities boards, travels abroad to help those not as lucky as her. She has gone without baths bathed in catfish ponds and has been humbled.

This doesn’t bother those of you who were responsible and paid your bills? finished high school went on to get a better education which like a lot of us we still owe on. Read the fine print on contract.

Obama plan does nothing to help the people who were responsible.

At least McCain’s plan will help everyone including us responsible people who pay our mortgage and now our home has lost half of its value! I want someone who sees people of all sides and McCain’s plan does that.

let me explain Obama says buying the housing at cost will cost tax payers. That is true but the value of the houses will be kept. The bad loan ones and the good loan ones. the ones paid off. the ones not paid off yet. They will be valuable.

Obama wants to renegotiate them at current price. What he fails to tell you is all of us who have 401 k plans or investing for our retirement if we are connected to the bank which loses money (as in stocks and so forth) our investment will lose value. If the lenders and banks lose money their stock prices go down therefor hurting those of us invested in them.

Brad Smith - I try math and statistics all the time. In fact I’ve tried it enough to a BS in math with a focus on statistical analysis. Anyone that has taken an introductory stats course knows there’s more to it than just how many in your sample, the selection method counts too. And while we’re at it, besides the margin of error on sample results, there’s also a thing called a confidence interval. It’s never mentioned in the media. They can report whatever they want. Without all the parameters of the experiment (which is what a poll is), one can never truly challenge their numbers.

When McCain wins all the NObama supporters can move to Cuba where his form of government is practiced today.

It’s called free thought. Try some.
