Palin Drops Puck at Flyer’s Game Receives Mixed Reaction

PHILADELPHIA –-

Sarah Palin has become known as “The Most Famous Hockey Mom in America” for her constant referral to herself on the stump as “just a hockey mom.” This evening, she met that title head on by dropping the first puck of the Philadelphia Flyers hockey season in their opener with the New York Rangers.

A carpet was laid down and Palin, dressed in a beige trench, walked on to the ice joined by her daughters Willow and Piper. The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, “How dare they boo Piper!”

Her secret weapon may have worked. The crowd in this staunchly Democratic city –visited today by Barack Obama—gave Palin mixed reviews. There were audible boos over the very loud music and some in the crowd had their thumbs down, but there were also many people clapping and cheering the GOP Vice-Presidential nominee.

Once she got on the ice she met the woman who won the “Ultimate Hockey Mom” contest, Cathy O’Connell from Erdenheim, Pennsylvania and patted her on the back. Flyers captain Mike Richards skated over to shake Palin’s hand and fellow Alaskan and New York Ranger Scotty Gomez greeted his Governor who gave him a kiss on the cheek. Palin then leaned over for the face off between the two players and dropped the puck.

The Palins joined by the “Ultimate Hockey Mom” walked off the ice waving to the crowd.

…if you’re going to tell a report a story, report in its entirety and be accurate. Let the readers also know, she was “BOOED,” at this game. Pretell. what the h____ has happened to “fair and balanced reporting? Get the video and allow your readers to hear it!!!!!!

I’m ever so grateful for my parents raising me right!

Comment by Flyer Fan

Mixed reaction? Sounded like all boos when I watched the game and saw it again online. Why would the McCain campaign put her in that awkward situation????? Don’t they know Philadelphia is full of Democrats????

Comment by TMary

It should bother every American that a child was used as a political
prop
.

Comment by tony

where’s that video guys?

Comment by BiggDogg

Are you seriously suggesting that there is something admirable about Sarah Palin using her 7-year old daughter as some kind of human shield against excessive booing — simply because it appeared to “work” at least to some extent?

Good Grief people! Shades of Greg Stillson!

Comment by Roberto Scrofani

Mixed reaction my ass. Put the video up, then put up an update or maybe a correction. Reporters as well as crowd members have reported a wave, a tsunami of boos that lasted minutes after she left the ice. There was no mixed reaction.

We love Sarah Palin here in Tennessee

You think that McCain will be beat…don’t count on it! Everyone said Bush would not win his second term…Everyone thought McCain was left for dead during the primary. Well Lord and Behold Bush won his second term, McCain won the Republican primary he came up from behind lake a snake in the grass and clinched the primary. The best think is don’t count him out just yet, remember America always loves the underdog. America will pick him up and will carry him across the finish line…just wait and see!

How rude America has become to openly boo a woman with her children, who took the time to even acknowledge a crowd at a hockey game. I will be so glad when this election is over, so I don’t have to read how much hate my fellow citizens are engulfed with.

Comment by Larry McCallister

Booing a candidate at a non-partisan hockey game? No class.

Comment by iluvobana

using her children for political gain…or shielding there mother so her feelings don’t get hurt?

Comment by Lady Professor

Palin uses her seven year old daughter as a human shield at the hockey game.
Wow, that was brave!!!!

Shame on you Sarah Palin for using your children as nothing but props.
………..it didn’t work. Even when the music was cranked way up, the boos continued to be much louder.

Comment by Dan

Mixed Reaction? Are you kidding me? Yea, it was mixed alright..95% boos and 5% cheers.
Or maybe for your “Fair and Balanced” reporting you should consult her best friend in Alaska
like you did for ‘Troopergate”. Yea, she’ll give her unbiased opinion.Your network is a joke!!!

Comment by J. Richter

Direct use of a child in a persidential campaign. To what will this pair stoop yet?

Comment by Erik Bloom

Nice cover on the article Fox News. She got booed and dissed and everyone that saw noticed. No spin on this one possible.

Comment by Carol

Palin should stay on the ice. She is great there, but not ready to be president. The fighting in hockey is a given. This is not how I want someone to represent my country. Also, her kids should be in school. As a woman and a mother, I don’t want someone in the second highest office dragging around her kids. I don’t care if it is a man or a woman.

Comment by erling

What? You mean she actually acknowledges that she brought a small child out knowing that she’d be booed by thousands of people - and that she was using the child to deflect the crowd’s response to her? What kind of person would do that to a child? And it didn’t work - she was heavily booed, audible even over the incredibly loud music the Flyers played to try to drown out the sound. What a piece of work Palin is.

Comment by sheikwil

Fox news is lying, Sarah Palin was booed at the Hockey game, the article said the booing was so loud it was deafening. Yea Philly, you gave her what she derserved. Booed her butt out of the stadium.

Comment by labman57

So she brought her kids to try to minimize the expected negative crowd response, therefore knowingly and willingly exposing them to a loud, boisterous, unfriendly environment.

She treats her children as a commodity to be used to further her political career.

Comment by Gayle

In light of the ire that she has generated at recent rallies, she should have fully expected her presence to be met with disdain at a non-partisan event. She should NEVER expose her children to the controversy she has generated.I question her common sense as a mother.Until the election is over, her children are precious and should be sheilded from the animosity she has created.

Comment by keenekarl

Mixed reaction? Yeah, it was mixed with some people booing more loudly than others!

I also loved the folks waving the Obama signs in the crowd! What a total PR fail for the McCain-Palin ticket!

It’s a good thing that the crowd was held back by the glass, because I saw people shaking their fists and pounding the glass in anger at her!

Comment by Ben

Another insane move by the McBush team…She was BOOED LOUDLY, yes GOP supporters in the front rows were clapping, but she was BOOED!! I am surprised they didn’t do the hockey game in Denver or somewhere out west in a red state. This reaction plus the report finding Palin abused power in Alaska as governor doesn’t make for a good weekend.

Comment by erling

Nice video choice, Fox. Other videos on YouTube include the massive chorus of boos when she was introduced. This one doesn’t. I’m shocked, I tell you. Shocked.

Comment by keenekarl

I see the video is up. Is it just me, or is there no audio with this video?

Comment by Rebecca

She has got to be among the worlds worst mothers! Those poor girls!

I don’t know what’s worse - tricking your pregnant unwed teenage daughter onto an international stage or using a seven year old as a “human shield” in what EVERYONE understood beforehand was going to be an ugly reception.

This is how she treats her own children??? Her own flesh and blood? What chance do you think the American public has of being treated with care or respect should this thoughtless, selfish, overly ambitious dummy come a heartbeat away from the presidency?

Comment by Hillary then McCain

That’s how Obama’s supporters are they have no shame.

Comment by darrell

C’mon..there was NO ‘mixed reaction’. It was a solid wall of boos and thumbs down. People were even waving Obama/Biden posters. Philly is one tough city when it comes to sports fans. Whoever dreamed up this idea should be fired. Disgraceful to hide behind her 7yo son and subject him to that sort of ridicule. I have 3 kids and they would be a mess after enduring that.

Comment by War Eagle

Why do we even know the names of her kids? What’s that got to do with how prepared she is to be president? I have no idea what the names of Biden’s kids are.

She uses her kids as props. She needs to go back to Alaska.

Comment by JAZ

If she was the great Mother she claims to be, she would not use her kids as pawns.

Not surprised that Fixed News reports the exact opposite of what the real story is. Unfair and Unbalanced as usual.

What I am reading is an example of American behavior that is at is lowest level because people do not believe that a woman like Sarah Palin has the right or the authority to insist that one of her employees act in accordance with safety that would protect her and her family. As the governer of Alaska I believe she and her family do not need to be bullied by a trooper or a public safety officer. The public opinion of her behavior is obviously “poor” and exhibits what values America has underneath all the so called socilalistic views we hold. [Me.Me.Me.It's all about me.] Ick.Ick.Ick What happened to brotherly love? There is no such thing as brotherly love in Philadelphia! Keep your boos to yourself Philadelphia and clean up your own neighborhoods before you go shaming those who would only add to benefit your fair city with a much better enterprise than the one you have now!.

Comment by Christa

Yes, you republicans - how can you justify a statement by her that she would subject her own child to this? That is low for a republican. I bet you just love all those children your adopting.

I don’t know how anyone can spin this around as being just by Palin using her children… told ya once I know hockey moms all they care about is their fame..and reliving their childhood dreams …. they don’t want their kids to be kids. Just props..

THAT IS SICK!! That is not a mother.. come on… Women republicans would you do this to your own child?

Comment by Stranger

This is from AP reporting about this event:

The Alaska governor and self-described “hockey mom” heard a few boos when she walked onto the ice, but that soon turned to polite applause as she headed to center ice with Mike Richards of the Flyers and Scott Gomez — from Alaska — of the Rangers.

Palin waved to the crowd and smiled as she dropped the puck to applause and cheers.

Comment by billm

what normal mother puts her 7 year old child in a team jersey and uses the child as a shield to deflect the crowds true dislike for her.i can not believe that any republicans really admire this self serving self centered individual.i have seen no motherly actions on her part since she has been draging those kids all over w/her.they belong in school, and they could use a nanny of some sort to show them love.palin is a disgrace, hockey mom, says who besides her.how many hockey games and practices did she take her children too,you fools will by into anything she says,no proof required, she is a phony.

Comment by PAULETTE

I have never in my life heard adults with such anger and low moral standers than I have observed from the Democrats. No you are wrong I am a DEMOCRAT I voted for JFK and was proud .But now I am a shamed to be know as a Democrat, when people do not respect each other they don’t need to live in America, I can see why their needs to be more people in church or where ever you worship to know the love and peace of God once installed in all of us.

Comment by War Eagle

What if it was Obama who kept trotting out a pregnant daughter at public events?

The family values crowd would have a cow.

Comment by Hillary then McCain

That’s OK who ever booed her because they’re gallous. She was invited that’s all it matters.

Comment by Chris

This is the last straw. I am voting for Obama. I am SO sad to say that, but he is clearly the lesser of two evils. I thought VERY highly of McCain for years now, and I am so disappointed that he and his veep have pushed me away from voting for them! To use a child as protection against a hostile environment negates all of the great things that she said today about loving children and choosing life. This is pathetic. And I am even MORE disappointed in my fellow conservatives for trying to defend her. This was a screw up. A bad one. One that hammered the final nail in the coffin that held my vote for McCain. Shame on my party. Let God have mercy!

Comment by Hope

This is awful Sarah Palin deserved to be boooooooooooooooooooooed! but her children did not deserved what she subjected them to. You can’t blame the crowd becuase they are disgusted by Sarah tactics you can blame Palin for being a bad mother! What type of mother does this to her children. This had to be hard on Piper. I wonder does she know why everybody is booing mommy! Shame on you Sarah! On last thing to Palin supporters there comes a time that you will have to face who she is. She does not represent women in a favorable light. If you want to hold on to the fantasy go ahead, but the rest of us have moved on!

Comment by Jessie

i’d like to know what ‘personal attacks’ have been made on Obama.

His associations, his mentors, and past, are all fair game.
his books are fair game
his voting record is fair game
his platform is fair game.

that leaves:

race, sex, physical appearance.
Which of those three has the McCain campaign referred to?

Comment by Julie

Shame on you Sarah! how low will you go!

Comment by fixthebroken

“How dare they boo Piper!”

Let’s get serious and non-partisan here for just a second. Can anyone honestly look me in the virtual eye and say that Piper wasn’t used as a political ploy in this instance? Can any family person really say with honesty and integrity that Piper wasn’t *used* in this case?

It is kinda sad, really. I do feel bad for Piper. Seriously, I do.

Comment by Hillary then McCain

That’s funny. Obama’s campaign pay for the tickets for their supporters to get in to boo Palin.

Comment by Ed - Washington DC

Sarah Palin should stay at Republican political events. It is a setup - a campaign committee attempt to make her into a martyr - to put her into any other type of setting or public gathering. As a born and raised Greater Philadelphian, probably the sort of fan Ed Snider thought he could influence, I feared for what may happen before the game tonight. I hoped people won’t throw things at this poor little innocent rabble rouser who has sold her soul to the Rove/Schmidt reptilian republican political machine. I was hoping that if people threw things at her, they would not be parts of sixpacks but only toy stuffed wolves and stuffed pit bulls.

Her children, I’m sure, kept anything really bad from happening.

I’m so happy the Flyers lost! I just the hope the Phillies get smoked by the Dodgers or if by some stretch of the imagination they make the World Series get swept by the Sox or Rays. Philadelphia aka America’s toilet!

Comment by Jay Severin Has A Small Pen1s

Do you really think the Flyers crowd is mostly Democrats? lol.

I live in MA and not one of my friends who is a Bruins fan is a Democrat.

She got booed because sports fans are very angry with politicians and can’t stand them using their game as a photo OP.

Had it been Obama, he would have gotten hammered too.

Politicians would do well to learn their place in our society. Stop using the people to advance your agenda. I’m talking DEMS and REPUBLICANS.

C’mon, enough is enough. Palin should be held responsible for her kids deficiency in school perfomance at the endof semester. These kids need left alone to mind kiddy stuff. We are getting bore of Her using these lovely kids as sheild, and sometime an instrument to appeal. We love your kids at the same time want to see your qualities. If we can tell Michelle to stop exposing her kids why not Palin? Let the press report as accurate and balance as posible.

So this is what it comes down to for Sarah Palin? She won’t (can’t) speak coherenly on policies and issues, so she has been reduced to staged performances like a magician’s sidekick. All that is left if for the GOP to do is to put her in a skimpy bunny suit. . . they may get that desperate yet. .

That’s what the commentators will say on November 4: “Mixed reaction”. When one side crushes the other.

You rightwingers, yeah you too Fox, trying to spin this one wildly… whatever… she got her butt booed bigtime. Obviously, she didn’t learn her lesson the last time she was in Philly. Philly ain’t Alaska, peeps! McCain/Palin = terrible joke. Go back to Alaska, woman, and take your brood with you - you’re unwanted here in these parts. And John, go back to your seven houses and leave the leading to the REAL DEAL - Obama/Biden!!!

Chalk one more up for the low-class antics of Democrats. Booing ANYONE that has been invited to drop a hockey puck (throw a ceremonial pitch, etc) just reeks of low breeding. Polite, if disinterested clapping is one thing, but booing?
Unfortunately for our country, if Obama wins, this is what we can expect for the next two years. Lack of class, breeding, and ignorance.

Comment by Ram

Hey Liberal, the best part of Sara Palin is that she does not let stupidity hold her down or for that matter cry foul. But Obama, cries out foul, race baiting, Ayers, Farrakan and Resko only live on my block…yea right! Cry Baby Obama…take it like a man!

It was resounding boos but at least they were not yelling terrorists etc…. which is worse? So, don’t get on your high horse and say Obama’s supporters are rude. McCain could not even control his own crowd, he even got booed. Wow and exploiting her daughters. Why didn’t she go out there by herself, I will tell you why, it would have been louder. What is the difference between a certain hockey mom and a pitbull? The pitbull don’t get booed.

Judith, I don’t know how you failed to see the point. Ok in fairness this guy is a creep! ( stay with me on this one) Sarah Palin is not above the law! This is not a PTA meeting where she can just wing it! but a structural set of laws and procedures set forth to handle this type of matter. She failed as a trusted government official to uphold these laws and procedures. The people we elect as government official are to be held at a higher standard than the average Joe Six Pack as Palin proudly refers to. This is what I think Palin just doesn’t get! I am not looking for the average Joe Six pack to represent me. If that’s the case I can run and represent myself! Sarah is not deserving of your devotion! Judith ( God Help You) is yourself worth so low you actually think that she is? Intelligent strong honest progressive women do not need Palin! not even to cook moose burgers. We can figure it out without her!

FOX be Truthful when you report things like this that you know very well people can get other reports on. The Live video doesn’t sound like a “mixed” reaction. It was an avalanche of booing. Her few supporters (some I think just clapped coz of her daughter who I think might have bene told to just wave coz she started waving even before they stepped out), were drawned with the boos. Many showing her direct thumbs down!

Good for Gov. Palin. I am so sick and tired of hearing all this absolute BS…not only about Palin but now a war hero like John McCain being compared to the bigot George Wallace. John Lewis is a pathic excuse of a human being. I understand why McCain supporters are so upset because they are scared that our country is going to go down the tubes with the socialist ideals of Obama. He is an extremely dangerous person. The division that is happening in our country is directly responsible to Obama. He continues to make race the issue of this election….he has made it such! The notion that if you are not willing to think and accept Obama you are a racist….this is bull ! His skin color has nothing to do with why the majority of people I know do not want him as our president….he is unexperienced and they do NOT trust him. It is that simple…nothing racial about that…

There’s class for you! Better enjoy the game while you can because the Philips Arena doesn’t take CHANGE and that is all you will have left in your pocket after your beloved MESSIAH is voted in as president should he be so crooked, I mean lucky.

Hockey games, football games, and pretty much everything else you used to enjoy when you once had a job and a little extra money will all be things of the past once Obama gets ahold of your paycheck.

Enjoy the ride!

McCain is going to win this. The democrats are starting to panic over their internal polling that suggests that the racial “Bradley Effect” will carry McCain over the finish line. It should be a democratic win, but the democrats have once again snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory. Gore was up in the polls, he lost. Kerry was up in the polls, he lost. You will see. There will be alot of angry blacks, but who really cares? Maybe they will burn their own neighborhoods down again in protest.

The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, “How dare they boo Piper!”
