Palin Addresses North Korea and Troopergate Investigation

PHILADELPHIA –

At a stop at a market and gas station in Altoona, Pennsylvania Sarah Palin took questions from reporters on topics including North Korea being taken off the U.S. terrorism list and the “Troopergate” investigative report released yesterday.

This morning she said there was nothing in the Alaskan Legislative report that showed that her actions were “unlawful” or “unethical.” Palin was asked to elaborate and she focused on the part of the report that found no wrongdoing with her actions—her dismissal of Police Commissioner Walt Monegan:

“I’m thankful that the report has shown that, that there was no illegal or unethical activity there in my choice to replace our commissioner, so now we look forward to working with the personnel board that the entity that is charged with looking into any activity of a Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, or an Attorney General,” Palin said. “A partisan kind of process that had been undertaken by some of the legislators that haven’t been real happy with anything that I’ve done along the way as Governor, that process now is over with that finding that I haven’t done unlawful in replacing a commissioner, now it’s up to the personnel board.”

Palin is talking about the legislative panel, which the McCain-Palin campaign has said are Obama supporters, but the panel maintains they are a bi-partisan committee. As for the other part of the report that found she violated the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act because she pressured subordinates to try and dismiss Trooper Michael Wooten she responded that she did not abuse her power and Wooten is still working as a state trooper.

“There was no abuse of authority at all in trying to get Officer Wooten fired. In fact, remember, Officer Wooten is still an Alaska state trooper, which is up to the commissioner, top brass in the department of public safety to decide who is worthy of wearing a badge and carrying a gun in the state of Alaska. And if they think that Trooper Wooten is worthy of that, that’s their decision,” Palin said.

Palin was also asked to respond to today’s news that North Korea has been officially taken off the United State’s terrorism list. She said North Korea has to live up to their side of the agreement.

“Condoleezza Rice, of course, having worked on this strategy for quite some time, I have faith in her that they’re making this wise decision and North Korea, of course, better live up to its end of the bargain there, in speaking with the other countries whom they’ve been working with, in promising the verification. That end of the bargain has got to be lived up to.”

She also reacted to the recent slump in the polls for the McCain-Palin campaign in the battleground state of Pennsylvania. She urged people to “come out and vote” because “a lot happens in the last few weeks” of an election.

Palin spoke to the pooled members of her traveling press corps after greeting customers at a Sheetz market and gas station with her daughters, Bristol, Willow, Piper, and infant son, Trig who was attached to her waist, strapped into a baby harness.

Palin’s statement are wrong: “Branchflower said Palin violated a statute of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. Lawmakers don’t have the authority to sanction her for such a violation, and they gave no indication they would take any action against her.” So now, she’s lying to cover herself.

They should actually call it “Tasergate” !! How many parents would still be this level headed if their 10 year old child (or nephew in this case) had been tasered by a cop for “fun.”

Since we have had 100s of Obama polls(Question of the Day), why dont we have a few on Palin ??

Comment by John

She is focusing on the part of the investigation that found that she was within her authority to fire the commissioner. The investigation also found that she abused her power in seeking to have Wooten fired for personal reasons. This is a violation of Alaska state ethics law.

Palin has never “addressed” anything, except this. She, like others before her, have incited her supporters to do harm to her opponent. She is vile, she is reprehensible. It’s probably not her fault. There is no cure for stupid.

This statement from Palin is incredibly disjointed and filled with grammatical errors. I realize that she was speaking as opposed to writing, but I still firmly believe that our country’s leader should sound intelligent and coherent when they speak.
It’s inherent in me to say “with whom they’ve been working” and sounds glaringly wrong to say “whom they’ve been working with.”

Can you please translate Ms. Palins responses in English. Thank you. BTW - could you print the names and affliations of all of the bi-partisian committee members. I think it would be fair and balanced to do so since it is being claimed they are Obama supporters. My understanding is that a majority of the committee members are republicans? Just the straight and honest facts please.

Comment by RG

Palin is either a total dunce or outright liar. The report clearly states she was found to have violated ethics statutes in Alaska. Wit and charm only go so far, but they can never mask the truth. McCain/Palin lost this campaign long ago. Do the honorable thing Palin. Resign from the ticket, go back to Alaska, and see if you remember how to cook dinner.

Comment by Brad

Are you Kidding? Gov. Palin maintains that no unethical activity took place with regards to Trooper Wooten and Moneghan? How about badgering State of Alaska employees to contact the Commissioner of the State Police over TWO DOZEN TIMES because of a personal grievance the Governor had with a State Trooper (by the way, just a few years earlier, this same governor was a reference for Wooten when he applied for the job). In my State, Indiana, using State employees in this way, for a non-governmental purpose, would be GHOST EMPLOYMENT; they and the Governor could be prosecuted; and should!

Comment by Stunned Independent

I’m stuggling with Govenor Palin’s statement that “…if you read the report you’ll see that there was nothing unlawful or unethical about replacing a cabinet member”, when the first finding of the report states she “abused her power by violating the Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. So who isn’t being honest now? This does not bode well for McCain’s campaign, I’m afraid.

Comment by Brad

Are you kidding?! Gov. Palin thinks that no unethical activity took place in the matter of Trooper Wooten and Commissioner Moneghan? She is either living in a dream world or didn’t read the report (probably both). By using State employees to pursue a personal vendetta against Mr. Wooten while on State of Alaska time, she should be prosecuted for ghost employment, if Alaska has a similar law to my state, Indiana. She, or the first gentleman (isn’t that being generous), badgered these State Employees to waste their time to contact Mr. Moneghan over TWO DOZEN TIMES to try to get Mr. Wooten fired (even though a few years earlier this same governor gave him a glowing reference for the position of State Trooper when he applied for it). This is a wast of Alaskans tax money and the Governor should at least reimburse the State for the costs of this investigation and for lost time at work for the State Employees who wasted their time on her personal vendetta. And for crying out loud, get Mr. Palin a desk in the Governor’s office if he is going to run it!

Comment by dvbrenden

Palin jumped around on this one also- the ethics commission has not exonerated her-they will decide in January whether to pursue charges- I know she has trouble keeping a thought together- but i thought she could read and comprehend that they did find she used her office in a wrongul manner and did breach the rules of governor-send her back to Alaska with her dirty politics and let McCain get back to being the gentlemen that he is. She has convinced him to go negative and it is hurting our party.

Comment by ruth

I am mad over the treatment the governor is receiving. The governor did nothing wrong. If you read the report and look at the law she did not violate the law. There was no gain for her. A gain is required before an ethic violate can happen. The committee was directed to determine if the commissioner firing was proper only.

Uhhh, what about the part where the panel found she “abused her power” unethically? Also, the legislative panel IS bi-partisan, they don’t just “maintain” that they are. And why do the whole article’s “facts” come from quoting Gov. Palin, the one accused of the wrongdoing? Comparing this to the Wall St. Journal article on the subject is amazing. Wow. I started checking out Fox because I thought MSNBC was too biased. My mistake.

John McCain - Do you really want a running mate with these credentials?
- Stumps for abstinence only education, yet has a pregnant, unmarried, under age daughter.
- Says she’ll cooperate with an ethics investigation, but hires a lawyer and sets him on a path to try to delay the investigation until after the election.
- Willing to use authority granted to her as an elected official to pursue a personal vendetta.
- Calls herself a reformer, but more fits the description of a loose cannon.
- Reacts to investigation by an ethics investigator as partisan politics, driven by Barack Obama, despite the fact that the investigation started before McCain announced Palin’s addition to his ticket.
- Says she’s against earmarks, but can’t keep her fingers off the “bridge to nowhere” money.

Obama might or might not be the better man for the President job. But Sarah Palin’s not just iffy as a Vice Presidential prospect - she’s downright scary.

She says she is glad the “report showed no unlawful or unethical activity”. Yet she slams it for being partisan? And North Korea “That end of the bargain has got to be lived up to.” Where did this woman go to school? Why don’t her children go to school? They sure couldn’t be learning anything from their mother. Hopefully this sad excuse for a politician will be only a small footnote in history after Nov 4th.

A partisan attack? The committee was made up of 10 Republicans and four Democrats! She is as inept at math as she is about telling the truth and putting together a coherent sentence on her own and without a script.

Sarah Palin has been scamming her admirers into seeing her as some quaint tidbit of honesty on the world stage, just because her speech is out of the mainstream style. Sara Palin is not quaint! Wasilla is quaint. But, now we are getting verification from Alaska itself that Sarah is an extreme control freak and a pretentious snob! Already, she is trying to call the shots over McCain himself regarding campaign policies and decency!

Try to imagine Sarah growing up back in her own environment , and what do you see? She is the backstabbing little gossip who will do and say anything to keep her place of conspicuous prominence in the junior high school in-crowd. The truth is no barrier to her. She gets around it with her complete arsenal of facial expressions, hand movements, finger gestures, postures, winks, grins, and smirks – none of which require “truth” to be effective.

But, try to pin her down and insist that she actually make sense, and you get that hollow-eyed stare that betrays an empty intellect. Reason is not a tool she knows how to wield. She is more comfortable with innuendo and snooty, cutesy, little manipulative gimmicks.

But folks! We are not electing the captain of the cheerleading squad; we are electing the person who could become the most powerful ruler on this planet. Do we really want her snippy brain in line to become that person?

Comment by Carol

I guess Sarah wants to prove that she is right for the job. She knows exactly how not to take responsibility for her actions. She abused her power. This is what the committee said. As a woman, I am embarrassed by her actions. She has said it is okay for her to bring up questions about Senator Obama. If that is true, then people should be able to ask questions about her. Oh, I forgot, she and Hillary think they have special rights. I can’t wait until we have a woman candidate who really wants to be treated like an equal.

You think that McCain will be beat…don’t count on it! Everyone said Bush would not win his second term…Everyone thought McCain was left for dead during the primary. Well Lord and Behold Bush won his second term, McCain won the Republican primary he came up from behind lake a snake in the grass and clinched the primary. The best think is don’t count him out just yet, remember America always loves the underdog. America will pick him up and will carry him across the finish line…just wait and see!

Go Sarah Palin! Palin did nothing wrong. The Media has been horrible to Gov. Palin. They should be so embarrassed for their poor journalism. The Left Media, should go back to being journalist, start by getting facts, write them up, We don’t need to hear their opinion, just the facts, if this had been done on Obama, we would know alot more about Obama & his associations, Ayers, Rev. Wright & how Obama after 20 years in Wrights church pews has learned much hatred and went along with it. Investigate Obama! Hillary will thank you.
Go McCain-Palin

It’s time to tone down the rethoric and focus to the issues. I realize that gov.Palin is talking on the abortion isuue, but I believe if you’re taking on the abortion issue, you can’t leave behind the teen pregnancy issue. This is an epedemic that we should talk about.

Most of the people writing are obviously so jealous of Sarah Palin they just can’t stand it. The people of Alaska are not stupid. Have you all forgotten she has an 80% approval rating? How many Senators and Congressmen do you know that have anywhere near that? She is a breath of fresh air and will make a great VP. If Obama is elected, God forbid, we are all going to suffer with the socialism we are forced into. You think it is bad now?? you will wish George Bush was still in office.

Very funny. And Palin yet again contradicts McCain’s stance on North Korea (stated by McCain a little earlier today) and she sides with Bush. I’m sure McCain is boiling and we know what happens when he gets mad. Ooooh. Keep talking, Sarah.

Palin is a disgrace to John McCain’s legacy and campaign. Furthermore, Fox News’ coverage of Palin is totally biased not at all patriotic. I know he will never admit it because he got a big bump in the polls after the RNC, but his VP pick was the most foolish thing he could have done.

Comment by Tom

Why did McCain pick such an idiot. She simply IS NOT competant to be VP and thinking of her as President is downright ridiculous. There are actually 30+% of Americans who aren’t intelligent enough to observe the obvious. That is scary. The simple fact McCain made the choice, supports my concern he is losing it. He has gone far beyond Maverick into a loose canon! If he wins, the US will be run by a loose canon and God forbid, if something happened to him, it would be run by someone simply not qualified. Not even a close call. On a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is extremely qualified, Sarah Palin is about a 2. Foreign policy is seeing Russia? She doesn’t even know what a doctrine is let alone the current Bush doctrine, she can’t name a newspaper she reads, she can only name one Supreme court ruling and its on abortion, she evades any substance in the debate, she gets the Afganistan leader’s name wrong yet quotes him, she doesn’t know what a “surge” is, she flip flops and seems misleading, falls back on her hockey mom stuff to avoid substance, is was member along with hubby of a neo-terrorist group - the AIP ( endorsing a state leaving the Union is a form of neo-terrorism, lets her hubby abuse her governor powers and fire enemies, bans books… whats next… Now I say my prayers and go to bed. Please God, don’t let John McCain and Sarah Palin win as I want a future for my children? Goodnight all!

Comment by Pat

Why wasn’t this idiot trooper charged for what he did to the 10 year old. “Wow his a cop” what a joke, he should have been dismissed immediately. If he did that to my kid I’d knock his block off. Palin couldn’t have pushed her weight around that much, because that childish idiot still has his job. I can’t help but think how unfair this is. Palin gets investigated, and Obama never does.

FOX News and most Republican don’t care about the gas price, don’t care about people losing their houses, don’t care about US Economy over all, don’t care about Health care people can’t afford, don’t care about our standard in the world today, BUT they do care about a potential Black President. Barack Obama is American too. He is half-White and half-black, why you guys prioritize your racism over the future of your own country? Do you think Palin can lead this country if something happens to McCain? Do you think McCain has a good plan to take us out of this mess? Guys you need to put your anger aside and think about the future of your kids and your nation.

So we have found out that Palin cannot read or is operating somewhere between delusion and denial. She violated the ethics laws of Alaska and seems to think that they do not apply to her. I suppose that the easy answer is that she is a congenital liar and ignorant of world issues. At least she knows how to hunt animals from the air, so she is also a coward.

Comment by James Stith

The first article I read by this reporter (Shushanna) had me wondering if she was a junior high or possibly a high school student….it was Palins first interview with Fox on an airplane somewhere..she (the reporter) was SO naive that it appeared she was intentionally trying to prop up and spin Palin’s statements (which are in dire need of such attention)..but now I see she was sincere! And that the reason for her totally biased and shallow representation of Palin is that she is basically a Six-Pack Sue…..I mean that in a kind way, and she deserves the compassion of all the other mislead, uninformed and fear dwelling supporters of the McCain / Palin ticket.

FOX will not print this….maybe they’ll stop sensoring my comments. Sarah Palin did break no law, she’s only broken an ethics code. She raises questions about Sen. Obama and that’s all she seems to be able to do. We do not here of the road that will lead America somewhere, just rrust that change is coming and to look at their (McCain/ Palin) records. We have a man that has done a 180 degree turn from what he keeps telling the people he really is. A lady, that if guilty by association like Obama is with Ayers, with her own ties with seperatist and domestic terrorist. FOX News has to bring up the global news of this womans actions and this mans radical movements with their failing campaign. But, they also know how to spin it and down play issues that are of greater revelance than that of Obama. FOX you have great writers and you guys are really good…..really good. Try taking a page out of your own book and as much as you look into Obaba, and help spread the news about him, help us see the real news behind your biggest ad buying wallet……let’s be fair.

Let’s do the math.

1. A bipartisan panel (7Rep, 4Dem) determined that she DID abuse the power of the office of governor.

2. She states that she did nothing illegal or unethical.

Her conclusion is that abusing the power of an elected office is neither illegal or unethical.

It’s amazing how well this outsider\maverick has adjusted to beltway politics in just a few short weeks.

Who is Sarah Palin: It Appears Palin May Be Jewish

Palin’s Maternal Grandfather And Grandmother

Her maternal grandfather, Schmuel Sheigam, was a Lithuanian Jew, born in 1912 in Vilkaviskis, Lithuania, 91.2 miles west of Vilnius. The Sheigam family immigrated to America, via Hamburg, Germany in 1915 because of WWI. The grandmother was a Jewess named Gower.

Her mother Sally Sheigam was raised as a Jew. If I remember correctly - her father’s mother was also Jewish. But her father converted to fundimental Christianity and Sarah was raised in this faith.

I’m wondering if Palin is lying or if the McCain campaign told her not to read the actual report and just to read the one McCain’s team forged.
