McCain Camp Engaging in Ohio Shenanigans?

COLUMBUS, OH - Mayor Mike Coleman of Columbus, who introduced Barack Obama at his final event of a busy two day Ohio bus tour, accused the McCain campaign of voter intimidation in the Buckeye State.

“John McCain will do all he can to appeal to the forces of division and fear,” Coleman warned the crowd of 12,000. “Just yesterday I learned that in Greene County, Ohio, the sheriff there by the name of Sheriff Fischer is investigating every single early vote taken in Greene County.”

Greene County , Coleman explained, is home to five colleges and universities, two of which are historically African American.

According to the Associated Press, Sheriff Gene Fischer “requested registration cards and address change forms for all 302 people who registered to vote and cast ballots during the state’s weeklong same-day voting window, which ended Monday” because his office received numerous calls claiming fruad. Fischer’s Prosecutor, Stephen Haller, said it wasn’t politically motivated, but happens to be law partners with Mike DeWine - John McCain’s Ohio state chairman.

Coleman believes where there’s smoke, there’s fire. “The goal of McCain and Sheriff Fischer is to strike fear and intimidation in young college students and black college students,” he said moments before Barack Obama took the stage. “Well I’ve got news for John McCain and Sheriff Fischer – hope beats fear every time.”

I’m voting for Sarah Palin because she’s just like me! Someone who wants complete power, someone who wants to run other people’s lives, someone who knows how to lie or manipulate her way out of any argument, someone who will never EVER take responsibility for her own failings, someone who is proud of her lack of education (meanness trumps intelligence every time), and someone who knows they’ll be rescued from any damage they may inflict upon themselves (and others) when the world comes crashing down around her. Yup - Sarah’s my gal!

Comment by Jackson

Fear better start beating hope. If you haven’t noticed our country is in trouble. We need change but not anything Obama offers. He’s dishonest - Is that who you want running your country? The Liberals have done enough already - Imagine a Pres and Congress (all Libs) it will take the country years to rebound. Heil Obama!

Comment by Gio Pea

The only reason they would be fearful is if they cast fraudulent votes or registered fraudulently. Why would these people mind the double-check if they have nothing to hide??

I wonder how many of those misinformed college kids are going to feel when they get out in the work force and are more qualified for a job and it’s given to a minority because of affirmatve action. Obama has stated he is a strong supporter of Affiramtive Action. This is really how he was nominated if you think about it. Hillary was much more qualified.

It’s easy to rile up a crowd, nothing’s easier than riling up a crowd by stoking anger and division. But that’s not what we need right now in the United States. The times are too serious,” Obama said.

Comment by vic

Obama stretches the truth anyway he can….people need to vote on proved records of the candidates. Don’t believe in what Obama promises, educate yourself on what he has done in the past. McCain is NOT Bush, never was and never will be, he can work with both parties and bring this country together. McCain is a true American patriot. Obama is slick, and has some people convinced by his hollow speeches. Obama is a socialist, don’t be a fool.

If you cant win on the issues, because the country is going to hell and you are with the president on this, well then you have to go to intimidation group pressure, fear, smear and hate

under McCain they will upgrade your daily 6 pack to a 18 pack, to make you happy…
He will buy your house to too, because he dont wanna fix the problems we are facing, he dont wanna create jobs…

HE TRYING TO GET THE AMERICAN PEOPLE TO THINK OBAMA IS A TERRORIST. I USED TO HAVE RESPECT FOR MCCAIN, BUT AFTER THIS PAST WEEK IT MAKES ME QUESTION HOW HE LASTED THIS LONG AS A SENATOR.

I believe this voter scrutiny is well warranted given ACORN is in operation. If they did it in numerous other states, they’ve surely done it in Ohio. These ACORN thugs have brought this on the voting procedure.

Comment by John

If the Obama campaign did nothing wrong then what do they have to fear from the Sherriff and Prosecutor investigating claims of voter fraud.

Comment by pam

Why are we now expected to compromise what is right and what is wrong? Every time something involves the Obama camp, we are supposed to turn away and only see gray. Every vote should be checked. If there wasn’t so much fraud going on with voters this wouldn’t be happening. But I feel quite sure that if the roles were reversed, the dems would definitely be checking every vote. Just think back to the Gore/Bush election. For days we watched people decide if a chad was hanging or not. Let’s be fair. To think that we would even have to question a vote is incredible. If it were where I voted, it wouldn’t bother me at all. When there is nothing to hide, people don’t mind things being checked.

Comment by Gary from Ohio

I believe it. My son was also questioned when he registered here in Ohio, and must return again with further proof that he is living with me. He has no bills in his name at my residence, and his drivers licence has his address from college, but he lives with me. We live in a very Republican area, needless to say. I’ve always been registered Republican, but do not condone these tactics. It seems that the markets aren’t the only place where panic is present. BTW, I can no longer subscribe to the party that has sold the working class out. And I am ashamed that I was a part of it. It’s time for Americans to think for themselves, and not let media bias do the thinking for you. Most of my friends have no opinion until they’ve heard Rush, and then mouth his same words. Some even talk like him. That is not the America I know. That is dangerous.

This is not for me. No more are these folks a Silent Majority. They are a loud, vocal, ugly minority. They are literally a dying breed. And when we look back in the next few years, there really won’t be a wet eye in the house.

Could I drive the hour to Ohio and register and vote, then come back to Indiana and vote again? Probably.

Comment by elaine

You know maybe the system you use to register voters is the problem. In Canada when we file our income taxes there is a box to mark yourself off to be registered in any federal election. As this ties in with your social insurance number (same as your social security) errors or fraudulant activity is lower. This would stop the mass registrations you have where there is so much room for fraud on both sides. When you show up to vote at an election you are already listed on a sheet and then you use id whether drivers licence or something to prove you live at that address. If you mark no on your taxes or if you have moved from the address election officals have you register the correct address and name and verify who you are

It really isn’t about Republican v Democratic or conservative v liberal and the Bush admin isn’t the only one to blame, as the slide down to the pits we are in now, while drastically accelerated by Bush-Cheney, probably was really destined in the Reagan years and contributed to by each admin since. Now there is real merit in wanting people to take responsibility for themselves but that shouldn’t allow for unchecked and tolerated dishonesty, run away greed, abuse of power and arrogant, self-serving, even criminal actions and indifference. The theories of open markets being allowed to seek their own equilibrium are attractive as academic theories but when the human factor is added to the equation, with egotism, greed, dishonesty and all of the abuses, it all falls apart and demands checks and balances, regulations and strict enforcement to avoid the chaos we see now. It isn’t about instituting Socialism; it is simply about demanding responsible and equitable behavior and not just focusing on benefit for a few. Government is responsible to do for the people that which they can’t do for themselves, no more and no less, and that includes protecting all of the people from the abuses perpetrated by the rich and powerful - to rationalize that as liberal or socialism is irresponsible and likely, just self-serving.

Comment by Lemz

I guess this is acceptable because it’s McCain and Republicans attempting to disenfranchise voters again. Meanwhile, a million right-wing nuts are sitting in their closets with their tinfoil hats on, rocking back and forth while chanting “Acorn, Acorn”.

Comment by M. Scott

I thought it was a sheriffs duty to investigate complaints? He wouldn’t be a good Sheriff if he let a bunch of illegal votes through. I love how doing ones legal obligation becomes shenanigans, but its o.k. for someone to have an illegal registration and go vote.

I also love how if I am a college student I am apparently a Democrat. And if I am a black college student, I in no way can be anything but a Democrat.

I’m glad he is investigating every vote. That way none of these black college republicans who falsely registered will assist McCain in winning this election. Only legit black republicans like me.

Comment by obama maybe in 2016..

lol ACORN it is that simple. They have found fraud with registering voters in 5 or more states. CNN had an investigation last night where the reporter went to where one of the voters address and name was. a restaurant and when he went there no one by that name register to vote.

This is not voter intimidation,

this is making sure someone does not cheat, where they found illegal use of social security, addresses, names, licenses. it is disgusting. I think ACORN register voters should have to be verified. ACORN who receive over 800,000 from Obama during primary should have to pay for the recount/verification process they created by cheating.

When MI,FL politicians broke the law the DNC discredited over 2 million voters votes. Think they will now take voters votes away form ACORN who broke the law? Think not. double standards if you ask me.

If hope beats fear answer this - how i s your 401K doing right now. Everyone hopes it will be ok but fear is driving it down. Looks like fear wins here.

Barrack should only be feared because he has no qualifications to be president. Other than that he may be a nice guy.

Obama using race card again? Wow there is a surprise.

the news said with the election close Obama has teleprompter or cards he reads from so less likely to make a mistake.

Also anyone speaking at one of his stumps is given a a written speech as to not allow mistakes form speakers. So Obama knew full well what was going to be said. Heck his camp wrote it!

This is disgusting some uniter he is.

“The goal of McCain and Sheriff Fischer is to strike fear and intimidation in young college students and black college students,”

I guess if your young or black your different from others attending college is his point………..

Comment by David Godwin

Good Ole Boys? Please! Try Chicago Machine politics. The sheriff’s merely doing his job. Based on the numerous cases of ACORN-related voter fraud already identified in this election. Every new registration and vote should be scrutinized.

Mayor Coleman doesn’t seem to have any problems with reports of Democratic volunteers picking up people in homeless shelters and unemployment offices and driving them to the polls.

Comment by Simon

Great Article?

This doesn’t even make sense. There ARE serious allegations of voter fraud in Ohio turning up, and they’re not coming from the McCain campaign. ACORN is rounding up the homeless, giving them rides to the voting location, registering them to vote, and having them cast their votes on the same day. The whole time, they are encouraging them to vote for Obama if they “want a better life”. They are turning away poll watchers, and there are reports of individuals being registered multiple times.

I don’t understand this whole media “OMG, Republicans are disenfranchising voter!”, when in reality, there is fraud being perpetrated on a grand scale by the likes of ACORN. Misdirection seems to be the name of the game - “Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!”

Look sharp people, as we are seeing the end of our Republic.

Comment by Arkansas Republican

Sounds to me that the sheriff is just doing his job. Considering the amount of voter fraud ACORN has committed in Ohio, there is nothing wrong with double checking. If they have nothing to hide, then this shouldn’t even be a problem.

Comment by Dawn Schmidt

I don’t think there would be any fear in individuals unless something illegal or fraudulent is occuring. People who participate in fraud should have fear but unfortunately, theie fear is not enough to motivate them to have integrity. I want the individuals who participated in the fraud to be prosecuted, never allowed to hold a government job, or vote again. As a voter and taxpayer, it’s frustrating that fraud is an issue. I would like to see more safeguards including the use of biometric verification to help ensure the voting process is valid. Having more safeguards will help instill confidence that our votes are legitimate.

Comment by Carole from Illinois

The mayor should be ashamed of himself for bringing race into this. He did this when he said that the young college students and the black college students………..Let’s be real, college students are college students be they white, black or anything else.

Acorn has demonstrated that it has fraudulently registered people to vote, supported Obama, and got paid $800,000 from Obama for services rendered. Obama has encouraged this fraud as he himself is a fraud to the American people.

Comment by Wake-Up!

K voters if your older or white please step aside, guess you belong in that small town bitter folk who clings to guns and religion category who don’t like anyone not like them.

This should be called on. All McCain had to do was say “that one” because the rules said they could not directly attack each other.

But Obama camp flat out uses race in predominately black populations.
Wonder if CNN,ABC,NBC, and all the rest of Obama media will jump on this like the terrorist Ayers concerns Palin brought up.

Anyone want to blog wage for fun????????

PS so much for Obama’s “pragmatism” campaigning. LOL what it lasted 1 hr?

Comment by DISgusted

I’m so disgusted at the way that many of my fellow Americans are behaving. Other countries must be shaking their heads at us. This country is divided 3 ways - democrat, republican, and independent. You may not like the other candidate, but what gives you the right to threaten their life. If you don’t like Obama - don’t vote for him. If you don’t like McCain don’t vote for him. Your voice will be heard loud and clear in the voting booth. Have we forgotten that many young children are witnessing the verbal attacks? What are we really teaching our youth? No matter what happens on Nov. 4th the majority of us will not leave this country we will continue to be Americans. So if your preferred candidate does not win - ride it out another 4 years. I’m sick and tired of the whinning and complaining. We are losing focus on what is important - THE ECONOMY IS ISSUE #1. I could care less about Keating, Wright and Ayers. It feels like we have stepped back in time with all of the hatred. I thought this country was moving towards equality, freedom, and justice. Just look at the demographics of a McCain/Palin rally. No further comment is needed.

You have got to be kidding me. With all the reported fraud cases courtesy of ACORN, every sheriff SHOULD be taking another look. How is this intimidating to voters? If you’re legitimate you have nothing to worry about.

Go Figure…. Typical Democrat. Someone calls in and says there has been fraud, and it should be ignored according to all of the Obama supporters. Yet, we went to the supreme court over hanging chads. It’s good to know that a Mayor of the people, likes dishonesty so much. Guess I won’t vote for you next time….thought he was the better candidate, guess I was wrong.

Any edge they can get like registering the Dallas Cowboys through ACORN. Keep supporting your Socialistic Candidate, Dems. The next step from Socialism is Communism. Attn: all Republicans… When called to ask who you will vote for say OBAMA, at exit polls….Say OBAMA. throw off their polls even more….

this is a headline from American Thinker… Odd how close this headline here is to that one which was made 10/09/2008

ACORN fraud and other Democratic voting shenanigans across the country

Two Ohio voters, including Domino’s pizza worker Christopher Barkley , claimed yesterday that they were hounded by the community-activist group ACORN to register to vote several times, even though they made it clear they’d already signed up.

Barkley estimated he’d registered to vote “10 to 15″ times after canvassers for ACORN, whose political wing has endorsed Barack Obama, relentlessly pursued him and others.

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2008/10/acorn_fraud_and_other_democrat.html

And we need ask why there is a investigation.

Followers of BO you have been blog slapped :-)

Comment by Tom - Phoenix, AZ

Do not be distracted from those that cause this concern of fraud. ACORN, note all of the news across the nation about ACORN. Then note that Barac Obama was a lawyer for ACORN that twisted arms of bankers to give thousands of loans to unqualified home buyers. Also note the funds that have been funneled through earmarks by Obama to Acorn, and then look at this again. This is not a question of the McCain camp pulling anything. This is a matter of law enforcement doing their job for right reason. The question is why is it a big issue that these are being checked out, WHY???? It is the questioning and the pressure that the media is trying to impose on the law enforcement to ignore this issue that should raise eyebrows. It is critical to our nation’s security that the voting system not be compromised. Obviously the person that wrote this article has an agenda and is part of the problem.

Comment by Wake-Up!

you all will love this talk about fraud.

This fraud in Ohio goes hand in hand with the highly suspect actions of Ohio’s Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner as reported by Soren Dayton at PJ Media:

The second thing she did was to issue an advisory opinion advising county election officials that Ohio law does not require that partisan election observers be allowed to observe registration and voting. This is contrary to the practice on election day and a reversal of the 2006 precedent. Two of the largest counties, Montgomery (containing Dayton) and Franklin (containing Columbus), did not allow Republican election observers to enter the polling place. Media, however, were allowed.

But they were throwing out GOP ballots:

Brunner even tried throwing out absentee ballots sent out by the McCain campaign because of a small box added in the corner. The GOP fought that one in court and won. They weren’t so lucky in other cases. And because of it, no one knows how much fraud was committed during Ohio’s early voting period.

at least the investigators were validating not tossing like she did!

Comment by DoUread

I’m going to assume the Mayor didn’t mean to say “college students” twice, just like McCain didn’t mean to say “my fellow prisoners”. If you read the article, the area has 2 HBCU’s and he was referencing the young black college students that attend those colleges.

my suggestion to all who think Voters rights are important and illegal voting or voter fraud is wrong start emailing the networks start demanding an answer.

If we massively email the networks we can make a difference and start standing up for our rights and privileges that people in other countries do not have the pleasure of.

We the people whether we are Dems,Rep or IN need to take a stand if this is allowed we have no one to blame but ourselves.

Yes, Ohio has had it’s share of voter fraud. In fact, with the good graces of our former Sec of State Blackwell, it was our great state that put President Bush in office in 2004. Voter fraud, and any false registration claims should be investigated. By SSN’s the election bureaus can easily detect the casting of duplicate ballots if that verification is performed at registations. Blackwell was another story. In low income, urban areas throughout Ohio in 2004, some voters had to wait up to 8 hours to vote. Most had to wait in long lines outside in inclimate weather. Who can do that? Many simply went home. I will say that our current Sec of State Brunner, if she has done wrong at least it is on the side of giving everyone better access to the polls. Voting should be made easier, without fear or intimidation. Fraud should be punished, but also should those who condone skewing an election by not giving access to everyone. Equally.
