McCain says Obama opposed to helping homeowners
WAUKESHA, WI — Sen. McCain touted his proposal Thursday to provide direct assistance for Americans with bad mortgages and argued that Sen. Obama is not concerned with the interests of Main Street.
“Senator Obama was happy to bail out Bear Stearns, AIG, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac–his pals there–and the Democrats in Congress that refused to reform Freddie mac and enact legislation to stop this crisis but he is opposed to us helping the homeowners of America,” McCain said during a town hall in suburban Milwaukee. “Do you want to help the homeowners of America or do you want to help Wall Street? That’s the question here.”
McCain announced during Tuesday night’s debate a plan to use part of the Wall Street bail out package to directly buy mortgages from homeowners and replace them with manageable mortgages.
“Let’s go out and buy people that cannot stay in their homes buy their mortgages, give them mortgages that they can afford and stay in their homes and make the payments now,” he said. “That’s what we need to do in America. We must stabilize housing values in America, they have got to stop plummeting and until they do we wont see this economy turn around…the dream of owning a home in America should not be crushed under the weight of a bad mortgage and government must act, and I will act quickly and decisively.”The GOP nominee also took a direct shot at his rival and his Democratic colleagues on Capitol Hill and named names.
“It is already a matter of record that the Democrat members of Congress fought against reform, and it’s a matter of record in hearings that they said everything was fine,” he said in response to a question about investigating the culprits of the mortgage crisis. “Senator Obama said a year ago these kinds of subprime loans are, quote, fine with him, and the fact is, that the same people that are now claiming credit for this rescue are the same ones that were willing co-conspirators causing these problems we are in. And you know their names. You will know more of their names. Congressman Barney Frank and Sen. Chris Dodd are two of them.”
For the record, Obama said last year that sub-prime loans “started off as a good idea,” but said in the same speech that the lenders engaged in practices that went on to hurt Americans.

Can libs read? This whole economic disaster is the democrats fault! Wake up people ..I cannot imagine having a liberal congress and a liberal president-the sky will be falling!

My question is….CAN LIBERAL DEMOCRATS READ? Here I’ll repeat it..it is a matter of record the Democrat members of congress fought against reform. They fought to keep giving houses to people who could not afford them over and over again. We are in an economic disaster and you want to elect one of the men who caused it-hello!
McCain, where do you get all this money from ???
Last i saw we were beyond 10 trillion in the whole….
ok time to be unbiased here. Seriously. Hillary Clinton made that mortgage buyout suggestion first. Obama proposed something similar on the 23rd of September. McCain just recently threw this out there.
Come one McCain, stop scratching and fight like a man. Jeez.
It’s funny to hear the obama camp saying everyone thinks McCains plan is a bad idea. Hopefully it’s not the same everyone that thought the bailout was a GOOD idea.
After watching the debate there is nothing that would sway my vote away from Obama. All McCain did was to help the republican party get stomped in the congressional elections that accompany the presidential election. It is in this voters mind also that “Fox News” is very biased toward the republicans. No wonder no one wants to do an interveiw with them. Fox news is an embarrasment to the journalism business. At least CNN gives us the truth.
By the way McCain should pull out of Wisconsin to because he’s geting his but kicked there to. He should also concede Ohio to where Obama also holds a big lead. He’s also loosing big in Nittiny Lion country.
Republicans are pathetic.
Obama wants to use our tax dollars and give it to his friends @ ACORN. ACORN can make lots of money and commit some more voting fraud so he can get elected. Alternatively, Obama would like to give everybody who committed fraud to get mortgages with the help of Barney Frank and Obama and raise our taxes.
Obama wants to raise taxes for small businesses making over 250K. Ours makes over 250K and we employee 5 full time employees. When he raises my taxes, I will work harder and only have 4 employees. When I lay that employee off I will make sure I tell him to call Obama because he will be the one responsible for the job loss.
Didn’t McCain say just a couple of months ago, that people should not get help with their mortgages, because they shouldn’t have bought something they couldn’t afford? Yes he did, and why Obama isn’t bringing that up, oh wait, that is Palin’s job, to do dirty tacticts. I say, the only thing people can afford is if they can pay cash for their house. McCain is a jerk. He’s too rich to understand the way of life of the poor americans, who use to be the middle class. There is no middle class folks, it faded over the past 8 years.
“at least CNN gives us the truth”… right, because Campbell Brown and Anderson Cooper are just so fair and balanced… they are pathetic liberals just like you. You support a lying fool who supports terrorists and favors those that preach hate towards America. He denies his ties to these people, but never truly tells us why he associated with them in the first place. He only disassociates himself from them because it hurts him politically. Who knows, if he is elected, he might just rekindle his relationships with them. Just remember that if Obama is elected it will rest on the shoulders of his brainwashed supporters. God Bless America
Go McCain name the rest… This is what the people need to hear I just hope it is not to late. B.O. is bad and wrong for Americans.
I am an independent voter and finally had enough! If McCain wants the government to buy faltering mortgages and recast the principle owed, then fine but only under the condition that the Republicans finally take the responsibility and levy the taxes necessary to pay for this insanity on their party’s registered voters. Leave me out of it. The Republican party has lost my vote.
Go Senator McCain, name the rest… this is what Americans need to know. I just hope it is not to late B.O. is bad and wrong for all of us.
The Obama Economic Solution
1) The US Treasury, buys a Preferred Equity Interests in US Banks.
Thereby giving, the Banks, the needed capital to restart the US financial system.
The US Taxpayers then has a vested interests in the Banks and a guaranteed
share in future profits.
The Treasury would also have a seat on the board of all Banks, who receive these
taxpayer funds.
This is the Tax payer getting something for there money.
2) A freeze on all foreclosures Nation wide.
This freeze will be accompanied by a program, whereby Banks and all lenders,
re-negotiate the balance and principle of the mortgage, with the home owner, along
Federally Mandated guide lines.
In order to be eligible for this program, all homeowners will be required to keep making
mortgage payments, along Federally mandated Guidelines, during this freeze and until the
mortgage in renegotiated with the Mortgage holder.
This program will only apply to those mortgages for the Homeowner’s Primary Residence.
Pamela, are you John McCain ??
No matter who is elected, if stupid people who took mortgages they can’t afford get help, the I want the same money they get. I DIDN’T get in over my head; I OWN my home because I am SMART enough NOT to live beyind my means.
It’s about time we rewarded ABLE AND SMART people rather than stupid people and greedy banks. I made uner $50K last year and will make less this year because I just started my own business. Yet I am able to pay my bills because I don’t buy things I can’t afford.
Whatever happened to PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY???????????????????
Maybe Obama was 8 years old when he wrote that book.
The Ayers issue should be discussed in a debate.
McSame, stop the lies about Obama and talk to your republican friends about MORE government. The new mortgage plan will buy everyone a new house and the tax payer have to kick in? Great plan.
A Blogger made this statment, which is more important than any other Blogd:
McCAIN’s father was an Admiral-Commander. McCAIN’s father got him into the Naval Acad. even though his grades were bad. McCAIN’s father went to the “top” keep McCAIN in Naval Acad. when he was due to be “booted” out for misconduct even though his behaviors were bad. McCAIN repaid his father by graduating near last in his Naval Acad. class. American taxpayers paid for McCAIN’s higher education. American taxpayers paid for the 7 jets he crashed before becoming a POW With all due respect McCAIN spent his years a POW because he crashed yet another jet——–understandable; but with all due respect———American has stood by John McCAIN even when he was “way wrong” and the American press has been kinder to him than any other politician———-It is time to stop answering all his “Senior Moments” with the statement, “I was a POW”——-Thank you John McCAIN, glad you are having a “good” life in your $560 shoes, 2.6 million personal jet, 7 homes, free medical care on the American taxpayer and all the other of millions of dollars in assets———-Question: In 26 years of service in the Congress, why are “smugglers” still running through yours backyard in Arizona?
[...] McCain Says Obama Opposed to Helping Homeowners [...]
John McCain, you really are a dummy when it comes to economic policy. That plan punishes the people who pay their mortgages on time and are responsible. Plus your solution to everything is lower taxes and give a tax credit. Last time I checked we had a 10 Trillion dollar deficit. Lower taxes sound great but are not realistic. Unless your plan is to just keep digging that hole until China forecloses on us.
Looking for Presidential material in Mr Obama.
Mr. Barack Obama’s has opinions on many subjects, but has been in very few positions in government where his ideas have been put to the test.
This gentleman, whom I regard in high esteem, and who has a Moslem father, is an intellectual who does not have the practical experience required to be Commander in chief or CEO of the United States of America.
This person has one qualification, at this particular time in his life, he can talk, and discuss in a charming manner.
Let him continue his Senate role, gain the practical application experience, then in future years, run for the top job in America.
Talking and promising, is all very well, it has it’s place certainly, but the President of the United States has to consider Congress and the Senate, so the golden voice of Senator Barack Obama does not qualify him to move into the White house with disregard for practical experience of which he has not yet attained.
I wish him well in his future endeavors, but advise him to sit out this particular endeavor and await a future date to continue.
Some thought for the Voters….
Has he got what it takes ..it will be too late after he is elected, and you desire to change your mind.
He is a Lawyer…
How many years has he practiced law, that career is now at an end and he is now giving it up.
He appears as a honest person, but he has not been in any position as such to be a proven honest
He obtained some experience in State legislature, but for how long.
He can talk that is true, he is a great communicator, most lawyers are, and he promises much.
But these are just promises, none of which may come to pass.
He appears friendly that also is true, politicians are always friendly till they get elected.
Where is all his political experience, that I do not see. How many years has he had in the Senate.
Where does his experience come from to be knowledgeable about our the economy and our country..
Where does his experience come from to be Commander in Chief of all the Military in USA.
Where on earth has all his campaign money come from, he is not a rich man, he does however know some people who to say the least, have a reputation that is soiled and associated with people of ill repute..
He is a religious man, but the church he attended appears to have been one he should have rejected many years ago, simply because of his minister, but he even got married in that particular church by that minister.
Now he has been involved with the Weather man a group who attacked America, surely we need to discuss this at highest levels.
Mr Obama simply puts it down to dirty politics, maybe but he was associated with those people, so an investigation should be made too late after he is elected. It appears we do not know this man with the Golden voice who promises much, beware he may not be able to deliver.
I am always particularly interested when someone can raise money in the large volume that he has, and it begs an explanation.
Who does he know and what does he feel obligated to do for that amount of funding, from those that supplied the cash.
There is no free lunch , someone is expecting large favors from this gentleman when he becomes president .
It will be interesting to see the outcome in the future.
I suspect Obama is opposed to making taxpayers pay for house flippers mistakes and people who didn’t have enough sense to read the fine print. I followed ALL the rules. Where’s my bailout, Mr. McCain? Oh, wait, I get to pay for my house, AND the deadbeats’ houses.
I smell Maverick Manure.
It is so sad to see our hero, John Mccain, fallen into this abyss. He just felt into his own trap and cannot pick himself up. I will never understand what happened to someone we used to admire and rooted for. He is gone. Bye Bye John Mccain…..
Does McCain really think that we will believe that Obama is against helping home owners? Really?
Please, the only people McCain’s guaranteed to bailout is his corporate criminal cronies.
John McCain is a facilitator of fraud against Americans. He cost the American tax payers billions of dollars with his deregulation polices and protection of corporate criminals. Please see for yourself.

Pamela, are you John McCain ??
______________________________
Nope…but I am for him, but I guess you could tell that much. Well now that FOX is allowing me to comment I will do just that..Obama should own a car dealership because he is such a salesman…but he is also ignorant to think you can raise taxes in this disasterous economic state we are in. And if he does’nt he better stop promising health care.. cuz it is the middle class who was gonna get wammied with that expense. And he can baffle you with his bs but that is exactly who would pay for it. The lower income already do not pay taxes. The rich already pay more then anyone..so yep it will be the middle class. If he wins he will make the Carter years look like the good times. Companies will go under like dominoes, they already are teetering on total colapse..put a lib in the presidency and the sky will be falling.
I’ve said all along that Obama does not want things to get better because it helps the one cause he really cares about -himself. Obama is wrong for this country, wake up people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First and for most the i put the blame of our economic struggles on the dems. Someone please tell why in the world would you give someone a loan knowing that they can’t pay it back? Why would you give anyone who isn’t a citizen of this great nation a loan to buy a house? Why do you think the illegals are here? DUH they can’t make in their own country so what do they come here soak up all the good benefits that we have to offer the low income families, which makes our taxes and interest rates go through the roof, and make it harder for working class people to survive or even to live comfortable. Do you really think that would help our country and all these banks in the end? Do you want our country to go into a depression again? Open your eyes people!
To Ron Baas:
Hopefully you have vested interests in these banks Ron, most of us don’t so I guess you and the other fat cats get the bucks and we get to work our buns off so you guys can get rich. This is the plan that Obama has laid out. Make the fat cats who support him with funds get richer. Warren Buffet, George Sorros, and others, what do you think they are doing right now, BUYING, BUYING, BUYING and getting richer.
How STUPID do you really think we are out here in the REAL WORLD.
How is it this race is still so close ?
For those who vote republican because ‘my family always votes republican’, what would it take to realize the scale of damage done by prior votes and the last 8 years of republican leadership ?
A disastrous war, conceived in arrogance and ignorance, and conducted with incompetence ?
A disastrous economic philosophy facilitating a financial crash of near biblical proportions ?
Legacy of failure to lead on vital issues of climate protection and alternative energy ?
A legacy of immoral tax platforms that favor the rich and corporate ?
A legacy of Immoral disregard for health coverage of the poorest ?
Desperate selection of top leadership positions based on gender ?
Time to wake up !
To ALL:
During the debate last week Sen Obama talked about service to country. My question is where is the service that he performed for our country? I know where John McCain’s service was and is.
It is easy to say serve but a tad bit harder to actually perform it. No military service, No Government service in the Peace Corps, where is the service? I hear lots of grand glorious praise for Sen Obama but for what?
Please Liberals Tell us where it is at and where to look.
Of course, Obama does not support to helping homeowners!! He wants us to find our own Rezko that can help us pruchsea a home under market value and then they will purchase empty lot next door for full price and then give it us. This is the American dream. Everybody has the right to have a friend like that. Obama, can I get his number? Oh yeah, he is in jail. I guess we have to wait for our turn.
Am I the only conservative here HELLOOOOOO!! We should not support this craziness. Let the people who cannot pay their mortgages rent. Renting is not going to hurt anybody. Buying a house in not a right is a privileged. If this gets approved I will quit my job and I will stop paying my mortgage.
Service to community. I have been a volunteer Little League coach and manager for the last 4 years. Last year I volunteered to be an assistant coach for CYO and I am not catholic. Every year my little family always batch up clothes that we no longer wear or clothes that my kids out grew and donate them to vets and underpriveleged. Before I had a family I would coordinate food drives at my work of place. Now I only have time to donate at designated spots with my kids at my side. Obama spoke as he made a sacrifice when he took less money to be a Community Organizer. Dude! I work full time and make time to provide services to my community for FREE!
Am I the only conservative here HELLOOOOOO!! We should not support this craziness the economy is too weak for this maneuver. Let the people who cannot pay their mortgages rent. Renting is not going to hurt anybody. Buying a house in not a right is a privileged. If this gets approved I will quit my job and I will stop paying my mortgage.
Funny how republicans that ran Congress for 12yrs and all three branches for 6 of the last 8 can find that the democrats are the blame for this mess. This is the worse case of denial I’ve ever seen in my 40yrs of living.
Have any of you ever wondered why one catastrophe after the next happened to this country in the last 8yrs? From 9/11 to Iraq to Katrina to economic oblivian, all of it can be attributed to the Republican administration. I mean we went from a projected surplus to economic disaster and whether republicans like it or not, most of it happened on their watch. And since republicans ran Congress during the period they are trying to blame democrats, I find it a far stretch to blame someone else for their abysmal record.
If you vote for Obama things will get much worse!!! Wake up America. Ask this guy about his associations, i. e. — Ayers, Wright, Acorn…
Should we all contact Obama’s campaign and see if we can get Rezko’s phone number for when he gets out of prison??? I want the same sweet deal Rezko got for Obama’s mansion. I am not greedy.. a 3 bedroom 2 baths Rancher would be cool with me.
“For the record, Obama said last year that sub-prime loans “started off as a good idea,” but said in the same speech that the lenders engaged in practices that went on to hurt Americans.”
yes subprime mortages are cruel as are floating interest rates etc etc…..conventional loans with ow interest rates would have been fair. But noooooooooo the Dems claim to be giving to the poor when in fact they just exploit them and feed them to the wolves…….I am so disgusted with this mess I want to see some dems in the house and senate go to prison for a long time. I also want huge pay cuts for them and tax the daylights out of them too. tac their social security beneifts when they retire…..they need to live by the same rules they keep putting on us.
Look, McCain has voted with Bush to help push us into the mess that we’re in now. Duh? A Maverick?? Who was behind all of the deregulation? Republicans of course! When are you people going to wake up and see that this mess happened under a Republican president who will go down as the worst president in history! This is funny coming from McCain who can’t even remember how many houses he owns. Puleeese! McCain was part of the Keating 5 and frankly should be in jail.
“Let’s go out and buy people that cannot stay in their homes buy their mortgages, give them mortgages that they can afford and stay in their homes and make the payments now,” he said. “That’s what we need to do in America. We must stabilize housing values in America, they have got to stop plummeting and until they do we wont see this economy turn around…
“Maybe Obama was 8 years old when he wrote that book.
The Ayers issue should be discussed in a debate.”
While that’s going on, they should have a debate on Palin and her husbands RECENT direct involvment and membership with AIP: A radical group that wants to separate from the US. What’s Palin’s excuse? She was not 8 years old when she supported this group.
Where she once said to that anti-American group” “KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!”
What’s good for the goose….UNLESS OF COURSE YOU’R MCCAIN AND PAIN. Hypocrites to the end
GIVE MORE OF OUR MONEY TO THE BANKS, NOW THATS A WELL THOUGHT OUT PLAN, IT’S WORKING SO WELL SO FAR THAT THE STOCKMARKET DIVING INTO A BLACK HOLE FOR JOY
WHAT”S REALLY WRONG - Americans have been telling lies to themselves. We all know the world is comprised of honest and dishonest people. We all know, we the people have allowed the clever and the glib to vote themselves a largess which is sinking us!
We must face up to the truth of corrupt politicians and lobbyist who steal from us at the public coffers. They do it by voting for programs and bills you never see!
Some say this election situation reflects racism. Perhaps it does, but only in the sense every political struggle reflects predjudices and beliefs that differ markedly. But.. what it really reflects is us. Who we are, and how honest we are as a group?
On the race side of things, truthfully Obama is not Black, he is of mixed blood. Most of us are to a large degree. I am a Soiux Indian, but I have I have Caucasian blood mixed too. I’m sure you are different from every other I could mention. Mc Cain is no doubt of an interesting bloodmix too we examined it. These mixed blood lines in fact make us stronger, and is a big part of the immense capabilities we have always enjoyed as Americans.
Frankly, with recent events financially, it is a forgone fact all Americans have suffered a financial loss, a reduction in personal opportunity, and may face much increased suffering financially.
Nonetheless, the way out is to be honest with ourselves. Consume less, and expect less from Government. It is a time to become more self-reliant, personally responsible, and inventive too if we are to survive. Honesty and character is a big item in our leaders, and is reflected in voting records of politicians.
I cannot vote for Obama, even though he woos me with telling me he is in control. Obama is wildly claiming he will do all these things for the people, but has no record of doing anything.
So despite his popularity and good looks, his propaganda does not resonate. Obama cannot produce what he doesn’t have, even though he claims he can quite assuredly. I see him more as an actor, but not a president. Its only roleplaying with him, and he’s good at it.
McCain has my vote. McCain does have a public traceable record of serving the United States in all capacities. McCain is the only one who has continally fought dishonesty in Government.
With McCain’s experience, he is capable of the goverment clean-up and clean-out we so sorely need. He will fight a fair fight, but expose the corruption in our Congress, and stop it.
McCain is also the only one who may be able to help us out of the mortgage troubles by helping citizens out directly when absolutely imperative. Nobody else cares enough to carry such a plan through. No one else will put the country first, has always done so, and can prove it.
The Obama people have spent 3 times the money propagandizing the people with election TV ads nationally. If his platform is so good, why all the hype? McCain quietly does and acts. Obama just talks and criticizes.
now that’s an original concept, give more of our tax dollars to the big banks i bet Phil Gramm and Karl rove helped McCain develop that strategy. it’s worked so well so far wall street likes it so much it’s taken a joyous dive into a black hole
jobs spend that money on jobs for our out of work americans, then they will be able to make their mortage payments
well i don’t know mccain- keating 5 only cost the American tax payer 1.4 trillion dollars you think someone should go to jail for such a trifling amount?
i think there is a gnome in the electronic rafters of this antiquated site- post takes two light years
or maybe they have two illiterate gnomes who do the proof
The undercurrent that is ultimately pulling our economy out to sea to drown is the principles of trickledown economics, and that so many who are actually suffering from such economic hardships are going to vote for 4 more years of the very thing that put us in this situation is unbelievable. I mean we are allowing so much of this country’s wealth to concentrate in fewer and fewer hands with the faith that they will take care of the rest, that is trickledown economics in a nutshell folks. Well the Steve Miller Band song “take the money and run” is all that needs to be said about the results.
I don’t want to see government get bigger and bigger, but let’s face it, it’s what got us out of the Great Depression, and allowed us in such a short amount of time to become capable and strong enough to face off against and beat Germany and Japan in WWII. So what I find really scary about what is going on today with the economy is we are in the middle of a world war, and to continue with trickledown economics will only further weaken our capability to win this war, not to mention we then face the real probability of going into a depression that will need a much grander superlative than Great.
Michael Phelps won 8 gold medals at the recent Olympics. Don’t you think he should have been forced to give 7 of them to people who didn’t place? Wouldn’t that have been “fair”?
The New England Patriots finished their 2007 season 16-0. THe Oakland raiders finished it 4-12. Shouldn’t the Patriots have been forced to give the raiders 7 wins to bring the Raiders up to a “fair” number?
Let’s say you have a 4.0 GPA from studying rigorously and working hard. Your friend the partier has a 2.0. Shouldn’t you be required to give him a point from your GPA so that it can all be “fair” at 3.0?
Those making $250k in this country gave 35% of their money to the federal government in income and a certain percentage in state income, as well as sales tax, property tax, etc. Many other people have no job, or a job that pays them less money. Shouldn’t those making $250k be forced to pay an even higher percentage of their salary to bring up the “salary” of those who make less or nothing at all? Isn’t it more “fair” if everyone makes the same?
Sen OBama will save the ECONOMY! The DOW is down another 700 and futures are looking in the same direction. Us POOR working folks will lose another chunk of our savings, and what do I hear out of the DEMOCRATs - NOTHING. Especially from the Savior that is worshiped on the air waves.
What is the plan, if he has a plan why hasen’t it been discussed in the open and why hasen’t it been
been implemented? THE BLEEDING CONTINUES and OBAMA keeps TALKING.
OKAY PUNDITS and LIBERALS PLEASE TELL US HOW WE ARE TO BE SAVED.
