Obama Camp Ready for McCain to “Take the Gloves Off” Tonight
NASHVILLE - Barack Obama arrived in Nashville this afternoon after spending the past couple days holed up in western North Carolina preparing for tonight’s debate. Obama senior advisor David Axelrod briefed reporters traveling with the campaign on the “rigorous” preparations, and gave John McCain an edge tonight since the town hall style of debate is McCain’s “preferred format.”
Axelrod said Obama was at work when the Illinois Senator’s beloved Chicago White Sox lost to the Tampa Rays, brushing up on things that popped up after the previous debate and familiarizing himself with the format and camera positions.
But there was no cramming at debate camp. “He’s been fighting this fight for change for a long time, so he doesn’t have to relearn a message – he’s not trying to learn something new here. His fundamentals have been the same for 20 months, and that makes preparing an easier task,” Axelrod explained.
The campaign is expecting and prepared for an “aggressive” debate and is thus prepared to discuss Obama’s relationship with 60s radical William Ayers should it come up. That also means McCain’s ties to Charles Keating are “germane.” Axelrod would not speculate if Obama will bring up the savings and loan crisis that put McCain in the “Keating Five,” but said, “I don’t think he’ll shy away from a discussion of it if it comes up.”
While the campaign is prepared to play offense and defense, Axelrod added, “One hopes that the focus of this debate will be the issues that touch on the lives of the American people.”
Even if there are no fireworks tonight, there are still 28 days to go, and those on the Democratic side are ready to rumble. “This is going to be a very, very pitched battle. We’re fighting over the presidency and the direction of this country and we don’t expect anything less,” Axelrod said.

I hope this country will not be dragged into the Sewer by McCcain continuing to bring up irrelevant associations from the past. No young man in their right mind would offered the chairmanship of an education board asking questions of who other board members are - the law takes care of that as no ex felons can serve on boards.
We will only get more divided and keep fighting until the Chinese (who practically own us now - literally) come to take away what’s left. The last 8 years have seen really catastrophic management from going into Iraq to Katrina to finally bailing (or trying) out our country.
Unless McCain manages to put in an alaska crowd only, he wont win
I hope John can be John tonight. I didnt vote for a negative candidate in the primaries when I voted for him over Romney, or that NY blowhard guiliani, or the weak huckabee. His atitude towards being a stand up person like Reagan is what drove me to him.
Unfortunately, Reagan would be embarrassed at John’s behavior the last few days. Heck, I am embarrassed, and im as Red as a bulls eye after you scratch it!
I hope John can come back to his old self, if not, I don’t think I will be making it out of the house on election day…
God Bless America, and the rest of the world.

Have you Obama supporters Googled William Ayers for an up to date straight poop report on his relationship with B.H. Obama.
Please do so, you will be glad you did for the sake of your commitment toward him.
This site will amaze you.
I just hope that Senator Obama tries to say John McCain is just another Bush.My reply to that would be,”yeah, well at least his approval rating is twice what the democrat congress is.”
That may put a damper in the whole, “He;s just Bush” campaign slur.
Fraud conviction is not the moral equivalent of bombing federal buildings. Now accepting campaign funds and a “favorable house loan” from someone convicted of fraud et al, is.

Hmm… an extremist that blew up buildings when the candidate was 8 years old, or being officially reprimanded for “poor judgment” by your congressional peers, in an economic crisis… which one sounds relevant?
Well, this is Fox, so you will pick the one that the Republican wants;
John McCain, the man who would rather lose his integrity than an election.
I hope Obama nails McCain about all the mean-spirited dishonest mud that he and his surrogate attack pit-bull are throwing at him. Barack’s great common sense, education, and cool head will win the day.
America needs a new day. America needs Barack Obama!
Maybe McCain would be able to look Obama into the eyes this time…. Or are your lies that bad ??
Good for her…..Obama is a Trojan Horse and someone needs to ride his agenda out of town.
The economy and the war in the Middle East are legitimate issues, and so is Barack Obama’s character which includes among other things his pattern of associations with radical and/or corrupt characters such as Ayres, Wright, Rezko, etc., which reflects a pattern of flawed judgment. The more he refuses to release his records from Columbia and Harvard, the more people suspect that he is hiding something of significance. The Oval Office is too important to be occupied by someone with a cloud over his/her head.#
Go get him. CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN cannot distort the truth until after the debate
At this point, the only question is whether McCain will lose the election with his dignity and honor intact, or he takes the low Rove.
Some republicans from Chicago are saying what most of us knew all along. Bill Ayers was a commonly acceptable figure in Chicago by everyone–Democrats, Independents, and even Republicans.
Are they all America hating, terrorist loving traitors to America?!
In fact, this NPR piece speaks to the Republican funded cause that Obama and Ayers worked on together. And that:
_______________________
“It was never a concern by any of us in the Chicago school reform movement that he had led a fugitive life years earlier,” said former Illinois state Republican Rep. Diana Nelson, who worked with both Obama and Ayers over the years. “It’s ridiculous. There is no reason at all to smear Barack Obama with this association. It’s nonsensical, and it just makes me crazy. It’s so silly.”
_______________________________________________
Yesterday, in a rehash of the MSM acknowledged issues of the day, NPR did a short piece on Obama and Ayers. Fortunately for many, they made news.
First, Obama began working with Ayers and others (Republicans, Independents, and Democrats) at the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. Well, what is the Anneberg Challenge? Who is Annenberg? Well according to NPR,
____________________________
The Obama campaign says he first met Ayers in 1995, when Obama became chair of the board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a $50 million fund that awarded grants to groups trying to implement new programs to improve inner city education in Chicago.
Walter Annenberg, a lifelong Republican and former ambassador who was appointed by Presidents Nixon and Reagan, funded an ambitious program to reform urban education in many cities in the mid 1990s. Ayers was an important member of the group that developed and wrote the grant proposal to the Annenberg Foundation.
___________________________________
Second, there were people of all political persuasions working on this effort with this “terrorist” Ayers and who saw him as acceptable and Obama was no closer than any of the others.
________________________________________
…no one on the board or on the Annenberg Challenge staff remembers Obama being any closer to Ayers than to any other member of the board. The Annenberg board also included several civic, business and education leaders, many of them Republicans…
__________________________
In fact one person close to the issue states:
_____________________________
“I don’t remember ever hearing anyone raise concerns or questions or concerns about [Ayers'] background,” says Anne Hallett, who has worked closely with Ayers on the Annenberg Challenge grant and with Obama on education and other community and legislative matters. “And that included everybody I was engaged with,” including prominent Republicans, and corporate and civic leaders in Chicago, Hallett adds.
___________________________________
So not only was Obama working on a Republican funded initiative, but prominent Republicans were involved on the board with Ayers.
Do they all hate America so much that they are “palling” around with terrorist? He had been in their midst for years, why did not the Republicans run him out of town?
Ayers had been there for years, building a reputation that was so mainstream that a life long Republican, who was a former Ambassador appointed by Nixon and Regan, allowed the release of $50 Million to let him, prominent Republicans, corporate, civic leaders, and a Harvard trained community organizer form a board to oversee the disbursement of these funds related to school reform.
___________________________
“Hallett calls this attack on Obama’s association with Ayers and the Annenberg Challenge by further association, “a smear campaign. It’s a political diatribe that has no basis in fact. The Chicago Annenberg Challenge was an extremely positive initiative. It was well-vetted, thorough, and the fact that it is now is being used for political purposes is, in my opinion, outrageous.”
I hope tonight’s town hall meeting will be about the issues that really mattters to the american people like the economic crisis, foreclosures and gas prices. What I have seen lately in both campaigns is personal attacks back and forth that really don’t help any one. Also will be interesting to see how both candidates stand on the 169000 job loses on September alone, and how both candidates are planning to solve this complex issue. Another interesting point will be the immigration in the United States that they don’t even talk about anymore. Finally, I think this debate has to be about the american people and not Republican & Democrats.
Thank you
