McCain’s Best Moment

According to the McCain campaign, the best moment of the night was when McCain interacted with a Navy Vet.It was a very good, natural moment for McCain.

per Brian Rogers, McCain Spox

For our dollar, John McCain had the best moment of tonight’s debate in connecting with a Navy veteran, saying “Everything I ever learned about leadership I learned from a chief petty officer, and I thank you. And I thank you my friend, thanks for serving.”

This is the real John McCain.

I agree. McCain is so warm and that was evident. It was heartwarming to see such genuineness. When it was Obama’s turn to answer the question, he acknowledged the man, but hardly … and certainly did not shake his hand.

Please let McCain and Palin win … it would be far too dangerous to have Obama in the Whitehouse.

Obama and McCain remind me of the tortoise and the hare. Obama is young and a fast talker and his admiration for himself grows daily. On the other hand, McCain is older, wiser, and experienced in leadership and continues at the same steady pace and crosses the finish line first. Obama may be a more captivating speaker, but McCain is the candidate with more depth. I believe in McCain.

It was a genuine moment, sincere McCain speaks from the heart especially as it relates to our brave men and women who serve our country, it’s speaks also to his unquestionable patriotic dedication to serving America, that’s why I’m voting for him, Obama on the other hand has very questionable associates/mentors/relationships with people that hate America. I do not understand how anyone in their right mind can ignore this fact.

Comment by McCain LOST the Election tonight

The insta-polls, which provide viewers with a somewhat skewed but important insight into how each candidate fared say, by and large, that Obama scored a victory in the second debate.

NBC’s focus group of undecided Pennsylvania voters had the Illinois Democrat winning by roughly a 60-40 split. Frank Luntz’s focus group, over at Fox, showed undecided voters leaning towards Obama because of his position on health care. CBS’s focus group of independents had the Democratic nominee winning the debate at 39 percent to McCain’s 27 percent, with 35 percent of the respondents saying it was a tie. Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, a Democratic polling firm, had a focus group of undecideds leaning to Obama by a margin of 42 percent to 24 percent.

Meanwhile, SurveyUSA interviewed 741 debate watchers in the state of Washington, 54 percent of whom thought Obama was the “clear winner” compared with McCain’s 29 percent. That same polling firm had the first debate as a tie. In tonight’s survey: 42 percent of respondents said McCain was too forceful.

And the CNN focus group of undecided voters in Ohio had the margin at an even wider spread: Obama 54 percent to McCain’s 30.

A look at some of the specific issues that these Ohio voters valued suggest that they prefer the candidate who, at least on the surface, appears less on the attack. When Obama discussed health care as a right for all Americans, his numbers were through the roof. At one point, female respondents were dialing in at 100 percent approval. When he talked about using diplomacy in Darfur and pursuing Bin Laden in Pakistan, he again enjoyed strongly enthusiastic responses.

McCain had his moments too, mostly when he was discussing economic matters and propping up businesses to turn around the economy. His low points came when he was on the attack. On MSNBC, Nora O’Donnell charted how independent voters and Democrats soured on McCain when he said that figuring out Obama’s tax policy was like nailing Jell-O to a wall.

How solid was the consensus that Obama scored better tonight? Even Bill Bennett, ever the Republican optimist, conceded that the Illinois Democrat scored higher marks.

“I confess I so much admire McCain, but I just don’t think the campaign is equal to the story,’ he said. “I just don’t think it’s equal to the man, it hasn’t been. … We needed a breakthrough, talking about the economy. I think he was a little better than last time, but he didn’t break through enough, and he’s behind. So it just wasn’t good enough for McCain in terms of what it had to be.”

Comment by Alfred E. Newman

.He’s a nice old man. A decent fellow for sure. But not Presidential. McCain’s power best serves this country in the US Senate. Where he’ll have more power anyway.

Comment by Matthew Walton

I thought it was a very honest and genuine moment. The only problem was that after McCain was finished, Obama’s “thanks” was very half-hearted in a tone of (paraphrasing) - thanks for your service *insert point enumeration and rhetoric*.

Obama is very smooth. He’s charismatic. But too many people let their emotions guide their decisions on too many things these days, and as a member of the advertising industry, we play on these emotions.

“I want that car because it looks nice and I want to feel better about myself”
–even though it costs too much and guzzles gas–

“I want that woman/man because they excite and intrigue me”
–even though you’ve already made a commitment to your spouse–

“I want a candidate for President that makes my legs tingle when he talks” - sorry Chris Matthews
–even though his plans fundamentally will not strengthen this economy, healthcare, or national security.

I don’t want to say it, but the next President of the United States, as it looks right now, is going to lead us down a road that will cause pain. Government spending is not the answer to a deficit. Government-run healthcare will only have us give up our voice and control in that matter. And a rookie in charge of the greatest armed forces on the planet is dangerous.

Abraham Lincoln said, “A government that can do everything FOR us can also take everything FROM us” (emphasis added). We cannot let the government rule our lives. It is an aid to help us stay organized and fight oppression from outside forces. The first debate had an oddly phrased question that included the phrase “rule the country.” If Barack Obama is elected with a Democratic Congress, he has free reign and can RULE the country. At the very least, we need to maintain the system of checks and balances that were setup by our forefathers who knew the very definition of RULE.

America can be strong again. However, it is going to take the individual, exercising restraint and personal responsibility, to do so.

Thank you for your time.

I applaud McCain’s service, as I do all of the men and women of our armed forces who have been set in harm’s way, but in a presidential debate, if that is your “best” moment, you need to hire a new campaign team.

I would gladly support McCain as a president, but he must have more substance than his service in Viet Nam and his political relationships of the ’80s.

He had no best moment. He simply did not answer questions put to him, had no concrete plan, and simply talked in generalities; moreover, he showed no respect for his opponent, even demonstrated a disrespect for Senator Obama. Then Senator McCain left the debate, without staying to shake hands and talk with the common people that he claims he cares about. This I see as his biggest mistake of the evening. Sorry, but he lost this debate, and he will lose the election.

McCain’s best moment in my opinion, was when he vacated the stage. He had an opportunity to interact with the Middle Class, the people that matter in this election and he walked away. It just shows that he’s out of touch- doesn’t care about them.
So despicable.

Comment by Rookie

I like what the Matthew Walton said when he called Obama a “ROOKIE”! Its the ROOKIE, that’s going to be able to give us HARD workers in the USA a break. The Middle class carries the burden of this country on our backs. McCain has offered us little to no relief. Obama is at least mentioning us in every meeting. I dont know about you, but that doesnt sound like a “ROOKIE”! If you feel that he’s not good enough to run the country. FORFEIT the monies that will come your way when he’s in office.

We all need to PRAY and ask God for guidance. Politics is a very harsh game and whether we want to play in it or not it has to be done. McCain seem to be an extension of what we had for years and its not working. Obama might not fix all the issues but at least he wont travel down the same road that lead us to this CRISIS!!

You know in 2004 all the polls showed Mister Kerry winning the election, and it was kind of fun to watch the people on CBS as each state became final and they realized that the democrats where not only losing but it was also by a huge margin. I can remember one of the guys saying either the exit polls were wrong or people lied. I think this year will proably be no different although ACORN is doing its best to try and cheat the sorry sack of poop Obama in office this year. Democratic party lost touch with reality after 2000 election thats why in the 2004 and now 2008 I will be voting for the GOP.

McCain’s best monet was when he quickly left the building with Cindy. Maybe his ‘That One’ comment his mouth made caught up to his brain. I grew up in the South and one would never knowingly say something so dumb.

Comment by Tracy Spencer

I have to admit that I have always been leaning toward Obama, but I was still considering McCain in the back of my mind. That is, until tonight. No more will I have to watch these debates. The Obama’s at least are not afraid of shaking ones hand, and looking their opponent in the eye. On the other hand, the McCains carry themselves as if we are all fools if we do not support them. Cindy McCain is the most arrogant, and unfriendly phoney wanna- be First Lady. Her smile is certainly not sincere, and until McCain can look Obama in the eye and conduct himself like a gentleman, after all, didn’t they teach him that in the Military? I will never support him. In fact, after the debate, I gave a generous contributon to the Obama Campaign. Move over McCain, “That One” is gonna be the next President, and to Fox news, I will never watch your one-sided Pro-Republican news channel again. You are NOT fair, and balanced.

The only orginial idea he ever had was getting with Miuchelle, and that probably wasn’t orginial. Check history, check the record. How is the rectic and the past matching up. Check both men’s record. Compare them and see.
Of course that may be to much work. If Obama wins the American people deserve what they get…BUT don’t blame me…and yes I will say I told you so.

A teacher in Jackson , Mississippi asked her 6th grade class how many of
them were Obama fans..

Not really knowing what a Obama fan was, but wanting to be liked by the
teacher, all the kids raised their hands except for Little Johnny. The
teacher asked Little Johnny why he decided to be different… again.

Little Johnny said, ‘Because I’m not an Obama.’

The teacher said, ‘Why aren’t you an Obama fan?’
Johnny said, ‘Because I’m a Republican.’

The teacher asked why he’s a Republican.
Little Johnny answered, ‘Well, my Mom’s a Republican and my Dad’s a Republican,
so I’m a Republican.’

The teacher asks, ‘If your Mom was a moron, and your Dad was an idiot, what
would that make you?’ With a big smile, Little Johnny replied, ‘That would
make me a Obama fan.’

I always liked Little Johnny.

This is in response to Cy Ballard. How is Fox news responsible for what their viewers believe. Maybe it is only republicans that voted in the Fox opinion poll. But when you are looking at the other sites, they are all voted on by liberals. Fox just happens to be the network conx=servatives feel they can watch. Every other media outlet is run by liberals. CNN will always have snide comments about the republican candidates. If I’m not mistaken Chris Matthews (after the first debate) said that McCain looked like a troll. What kind of a comment is that? On the same token he said that Obama was polished and flowing (I am paraphrasing). If you expect me to believe that you were ever a McCain supporter, you’ll have to come up with a better reason for changing your vote than you did. I can’t believe that you would sell out that easily. And I don’t understandyour comment about rpublicans and mobsters. please clarify. The only person I know of with ties to what could be a mobster would be Obama. Afterall Chicago is run by the Daily family and has been for decades. Don’t just sling mud and not have any rhyme or reason for it. I do believe that conservatives are frustrated in this election season but we can’t just lay down and hand it socialist monsters

Comment by Mike higgins

Regardless of which candidate wins, senate seats will determine the potential success or failure of the next administration. If you have a candidate in mind for the presidency, you had better help him by stuffing the senate with newly elected senators from the same party. Old guy economics 101-we have all heard the phrase “there ain’t no free lunch”. No matter what your candidate promises, you and I are going to have to pay for it, the burning questions are; “with what” ? and “how”. The government’s budget must, must, must, must cut spending. No other measure is more significant of what the next 4 years will be like unless you have an idea of how and where your candidate will make budget cuts AND spending cuts. Old guy poli-sci 201-the president proposes a budget and submits it to congress, the congress approves it and spends the money. If its a good one or if its lousy, thw White House gets the blame.
Debates are pure rhetoric, what is the CHARACTER of the man behind the words ? Mom and dad told all of us as children; “you are judged by the company you keep.” PRINCIPLES are the hallmark of the man of character; what values are important and will he carry these values across the aisle and do something that isn’t done anymore—negotiate, debate and compromise with the other party in order to make life better for all of us. NOW–go vote.

Pretty bad when the best part of McCain’s debate is shaking hands with an ex-serviceman. Didn’t score on economics, the war in Iraq, health insurance or anything else but he shook hands? Ya right!

It is funny because they mentioned McCain doing something incredibly similar to that prior to the debate. As soon as the words “veteran” came out of the guys mouth we all knew he would go over and shake his hand or something, it was cheesy and predictable. McCain got owned…for the second time. Even this websites polls have Obama as the clear winner.

The only poll that counts is election day.The rest of it is brainwashing.

Comment by Mike higgins

No matter which candidate you choose, you had better give him help by filling senate seats with electees from the same party. If Obama wins, we will have a democratic love fest for about 120 days, then the gloves will come off (both parties are fairly convinced that the American people’s memory is only about 4 months long). He will then have to navigate the minefield of the various factions within the party. The tax cut will go on the shelf because he knows he can’t afford it (Bill Clinton had shelf his for less reason). Obama wants to give everyone who earns less than 250K a check for $500 to $1000, there are 175 to 200 million taxpayers. At just $500 each, do the math, where’s the money going to come from ? Folks “there ain’t no free lunch”.
McCain’s administration is already in trouble because of the opposing parties’ majority in the house.

Comment by Jackson

John Mc Cain is the best man to lead this country. Obama is promising things he will not be able to deliver. What are you people thinking? We are in the worse economic times of our lives and he talks about raising taxes. Don’t kind yourselves if you think it’s only going to be on businesses making over $250,000.00. 50% of small business in the US make over $250 and provide plenty of jobs. If he rasies taxes on them, they will pass that onto us as the consumer or they will close down, people will loose jobs, or if the companies are large enough they will take their business overseas where the tax is minimal. Why can’t you all see that? When has the middle class ever benefited from tax increases on small businesses? We will pay the price - and any of you that have been around for any length of time know it. Leave taxes as they are, put a spending freeze on and let’s see how the economy shakes out. Don’t vote thinking NoBama can make big changes. You also have to think about him and Congress together. All Dems running the country - Heaven forbid. No reigns on them = Big Government. I don’t know about you but I don’t want Government telling me what to do and that is where we are headed.

I am a baby boomer and believe I grew up in the best of times, unfortunately I also believe if we vote Obama in - I will live to see the worse of times for America and for it’s citizens.

I am a baby boomer and I believe I grew up in the best of times in America, unfortunately I also believe I will go out in the worse of times if Obama is elected.

He DID phrase his statement in a way that would mislead everyone into thinking he came up with it.

McCain had several other good moments during last nights debate. I am quite shocked however at how the moderator allowed Obama to go off sputtering his tantrums about issues that did not answer several of the questions, instead just letting him go off point with his false rhetoric (his voting records contradict his words anyway) to get back at McCain. Obama is very childish in my opinion, certainly without adequate experience or common sense knowledge to lead our wonderful nation.

Obama was just whinny last night… It was like listening to my kids. “I’m just trying to keep up with John” on the rebuttals.. Amazing.. How much ego this guy has. McCain could never catch up to the amount of press coverage that Obama has received.
It still amazes me that there are so many people in America that believe in Obama when he has accomplished NOTHING for the greater good of this country. Don’t tell me he was a community organizer.. Even that program was not successful for him or the people in that community. And, just exactly how did he have the money for all his schools and travels? If the answer is scholarships, then even with his left absurd donation amounts of money, he would still be paying back these loans.. A wise man once said “If it sounds too good to be true….” wake up America… every campaign isn’t about the “Best” candidate, it’s all about the lesser of 2 evils… and OBAMA takes the lead on EVIL!

I believe Tom Brokow was somewhat in the tank for Obama. You can not tell me with all the questions he received there were not one or two in the bag the wanted to hear questions such as abortion, school choice, relationships, Supreme Court. People are tired of hearing about the economy. While it is a very important issue we have be inadated with this topic since the fall down of all the institutions approximately 13 days ago. Could’nt we have heard some of the other issues of importance? I was left stunded and disapointed.

This is in response to Cy Ballard comments. First of all, the polls taken on the main stream media are with a majority of Democratics voting in those polls. Conservative are going to gravitate to the conservative news websites and Democratics are going to gravitate to the liberal mainstream media that is pushing hard for Obama. Secondly, Obama did not just go to a party at Bill Ayer’s house, he served on several committee with him including one that funneled 100 millions dollars to community organizations. Including ACORN which would put Obama right in the middle of sub prime loan problems. ACORN is a community organization that gives loans and homes to people who really can’t afford them. Obama just keeps playing the idea didn’t know card with all these shady people he is involved with. From the dealings with how he bought his home, to the twenty years association with his pastor he claims I didn’t know he was like that, to Bill Ayers. You can’t sit in a church for twenty years and not know what your pastor is all about.

McCain’s support (or non-support) for America and America’s veterans shows its ugly head again. He receive a score of “D” from the Iraq and Afghan Veterans of America (IAVA). And it was just based on 9 little votes (He missed more than Johnson who was in a coma). All McCain had to do was do the right thing the majority of 9 important veteran related votes. Well, he didn’t show up for 6 of them and voted the right way on 3. (one of the ones he skipped was his own proposal competing against the GI bill proposed by Webb/Hagel). He also lost points (or, rather, didn’t get bonus points) for not being one of the 53 original co-sponsors of that bill. A “D”!!! Only 9 senators or congressmen/women got this low of a grade. IAVA has 100,000 members so it is not insignificant. Obama got a “B” –he missed 4 votes, but was an original co-sponsor of the GI bill. So please, let’s stop labeling McCain as the “military” candidate. He has consistently been against military issues and we can’t afford to have him as commander in chief.

What left the better impression? McCain is a grumpy old man who can’t stand the fact that he has met his match. If his best moment was shaking the hand of a former military officer then he definitely lost the debate.

It’s time for real change. Obama 08

Hey Cy,

You’re an idiot if you expect anyone to believe you’re nothing more than a latent Democrat with extreme leftest tendencies. Go back to CNN where you belong and spare us your BS.

Are you a Republican frustrated with this elections cycle? If so, then you may need to take some ownership of the fact that you voted for George W. Bush, twice! Next time exercise better judgment and vote for competence instead of a best friend. Then maybe your party can hold on to power.

To Mr. Cy Ballard,
You are not a Republican. If you were you would be looking beyond the polls and concentrate on the substance of the candidate. Stop preventing and tell the truth that you have been an Obama supporter all along. Fox News does report on what other polls show and it has depressed me on their results because as an Independent Voter I support Mccain over Obama because I don’t want for the US to become a Socialist Country. I watch Fox News everyday and stroll through all the others and believe me Fox News does report the truth.

Wow Cy Ballard. That was breath-taking and you hit the nail right on the head. People have to get away from the tunnel vision and do what is right. The Republican party has destroyed the global economy, not just the American economy. We have no credibility or allies left in the world with these thugs and dolts in the White House.

How can anyone say that Odrama won the debate last night? He stammered, he avoided important questions, but most importantly listen to the debate again. Listen to how he repeatedly used the pronoun “you” instead of “us” or “we”. Isn’t he part of this plan? Isn’t he a fellow American? He came across, to me as being a God-like figure that would save us poor, frightened, weak folk. Oh yes it was dispersed with “I’m one of you guys. I was raised poor and etc”. But what really came across to me was his subtle attitude that he could be our saviour. Come on Obama, you are not mine or anyone elses God. Put your narcissism aside and really tell us what you will do for all of us, me, my children, you and your children.

It’s the media and OPRAH who will win this election for Obama. I’m all for the best man/woman to win. But Obama is being pushed along by millions of secretive money and power brokers, most of whom are from Chicago and Hollywood and the media. Had he stuck to his promise to only use public money for his campaign, this would be a very different run for the White House. It will all come out eventually; unfortunately it may be too late.

McCain was great. Loved him. He made sense. Obama repeated his liberal rhetoric disguised as change once again.

I have read earlier comments and figured out a lot of people with short memory. Remember 9/11? It’s the Pearl Harbor of our time. The current president made the right decision in orderr to protect us. It’s them who hit us first. In order not to repeat, hit them at their home base before they bring the war to our land. Look at other countries. They’ve been attacked one after another by terrorist.
G.W. Bush have done a good job inorder to protect us. Not even a single attacked by fanatics after 9/11. The first 9/11 was the failure of the Clinton presidency.

And as to the current economic crises, why blame it to the present administration. Blaming a president each time a country is hit by a hurricane isn’t fair. Blame the current crisis to all of US.
This is a wake up call to all of us. Wake up America. We spend so much more to what we can afford.
Curtail our old lifestyle from garbage to gasoline. We are out of control.

McCain on the last debate has it’s great moment from its entirety. He was accurate and forceful enoug that put Obama in a defensive.

Sorry, Obama. You’re a neophyte, very ambitious and that’s dangerous. For our security and stability of the world go McCain/Palin ticket. We can wither the storm and we can do it America.

To Cy Ballard, we know you are a Democrat so don’t even make us think you are a Republican voting Democrat.
