Palin Introductory Speaker Uses Obama’s Middle Name; Campaign Calls Comments “Inappropriate”

ESTERO, FLA –

In his introductory speech at a Palin rally here, Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott praised the GOP Vice-Presidential candidate, but then quickly went negative, “On November 4th, let’s leave Barack Hussein Obama wondering what happened,” the uniformed sheriff said.

** UPDATE **

Palin spokesperson Tracey Schmitt issued the following response to Sheriff Scott’s comments:

“We do not condone this inappropriate rhetoric which distracts from the real questions of judgment, character, and experience that voters will base their decisions on this November.”

The crowd of thousands enthusiastically cheered the dig at Obama. Next up was conservative radio talk show host Mandy Connell who said that Obama “hangs around with terrorists” repeating Sarah Palin’s recent attack trying to link Obama with 1960’s radical Bill Ayers. The supporters again roared their approval– who got here hours before the rally almost filling the Germain Arena.

These comments come on the same day that Palin tried to stoke fears about a potential President Obama, “I am just so fearful that this is not a man who sees America the way you and I see America as the greatest source for good in this world.”

Palin is not expected to arrive at the rally until a few minutes before it begins at 2:45pm– no word if she will respond to Sheriff Scott’s or Mandy Connell’s comments.

Looks like putting country first just took a back seat to political spin. I want to hear about John McCain’s vision for the future. Not about middle names.

If I hear the word Maverick one more time I’m giving up on the guy. They can Maverick all they want..what the American people want is honesty and results.

Comment by suerae

so what if the middle name is used? Is everything off limits when it comes to the chosen one?

It is his name, after all, is he ashamed of it?

Comment by doug

Why is it “negative” to use the legal middle name of a candidate?
Talk about a biased piece of writing.

Let’s just be a cry baby. If his name is Barak Hussian Obama why does he and
his party get offended by that.

Its utterly disgusting how low McCain/Palin have gone! its just a matter of hours before they start ranting that he’s too dark, or as they put it, “not the same as us”… I really do hope this going negative will kickback in their faces and the polls will start to slide even further. McCain/Palin, you should be ASHAMED!!!! talk on the issues, thats whats important!!!

To Atilla California,
It is difficult not to start by highlighting your ignorance of the way the modern world economy works. Have you noticed that all the kids toys in the store is made in China and that some of the wine you probably drink is from France. When the biggest economy in the world- in which most other countries have invested- crashes, it affects the others. That is one. Secondly, it was under Bush’s watch that a record surplus become a surplus deficit. Who do you want to blame?
To FOXNEWS: Great going. Leading on your website with an obvious STUPID story. A reckless and thoughtless teacher has suddenly become the new ‘nazi’ agent. Wake up foxnews. People that you scared into voting for Bush twice now know that they were duped in 2000 and 2004.

what a shame that racism still runs so rampant across the U.S.
The main argument the GOP uses is his name?!? and bible thumpers
eat it up. If the religious right had any real understanding of the bible they would
realize comments like this go against everything it stands for.

Also if Palin really did read the New York Times she would have taken away the
main point of that article that linking Obama to Ayers is a “stretch”. Come on people
don’t u see McCain is just trying to distract u from the fact hes useless. He couldn’t even
rally the rebulicans around the bail out bill he made such a key issue. If his party won’t even
listen to him how is he going to run the country effectively.

Comment by peterclarke

Well, that is his middle name. If he is ashamed of it, then he can legally change it. What is in a name except the TRUTH…..Keep smiling

Comment by Arlene

Why is it going negative and stoking fear? Are you not editorializing for the democrat position?

Comment by Darell in Fla

You have got to be kidding me. My worse fears seemed to have now come true, I have always suspected that the majority of MCCaine supporters consisted of mostly racist and uneducated types but this confirms those fears. The numbers in the most poorest parts of the country supports this theory, Alabama, Misissippi, Georgia, all majority white, known throughout history to harbour racist views will rather see our economy suffer more before they will vote for a black man. To hear this sherriff in uniform stand up and spew this kind of filth brings back the memories and rhetoric from the old Ku Klux Klan meetings, which obviously still exist.

It’ about time Obama is called out for his associations with people and vites to prevent people from buying ammo for hunting rifles. Also his votes to ban revolvers and pistols from private owners so thiefs or persons in home invasions can be assured that home owners are not armed and they can do whatever they please. these people have no regard for the law and will continue to be armed. Isn’t that his middle name. Why is he now upset?????????

Comment by Ryan

For years we have used the full names of politicians. (Richard Millhouse Nixon, John Fitzgerald Kennedy) Who cares what his middle name is or what color his skin is. The fact is that he is a liberal leaning so far to the left that socialist seems fitting. If Obama is elected the markets will tank even further.

If Mr. Obama is offended by his middle name maybe he should legally get it changed. If he doesn’t change his middle name then just shut up . His name is what it is. I can’t believe his skin is that thin that it bothers hm and his campaign. This is the man who wants to be president and this gets him upset. He must be kidding!!!

What we have here is a racist sheriff. Florida is acting more like a third world country than a part of the union. I presume that all of the retires are pleased with the Bush republican recession and economic meltdown. It is apparently time to start drilling for oil off the Florida coasts; no more free ride for the folks in Florida who burn fuel but produce none.

Why not?!?!?
This campaign seems to think calling him a “terrorist” is appropriate!
This campaign is the most hyprocritical I have ever seen!!!!
Obama and Biden have my vote in the midst of McCain/Palin trying to figure out what is “appropriate” and what is not.

I sincerely believe that sarah palin and John Mccain have realised that the game is up for them, now they are using smear tactics against obama. if we talk about judgement and leadership, if sarah cannot control her 17 year old daughter who got pregnant whilst her age mates are at school, how can she be president when mccain is gone. this election is turning to be a race issue instead of a election campaign. what ever sarah palin with an Iq of less 70 says, obama is going all the way to win this election. it is obvious that fox news is one sided, mccain palin supporter, i have listen to fox news throughout this election, i have come to believe that, they want obama to loss this election. all the time mccain pallin. with little or no positive comment about obama and biden. you all are racist and that will not stop obama from wining this election.

God will help to win

We will shock Hollywood, Mathews, dOlberman, Borger, Begala, Campbell, Madow, CNN, MSNBC, they are rabidly biased, etc….America First!!!

What is wrong with using his real name? If John McCain’s middle name was Osama, the Dems would certainly use it, especially the demonic left wing media.

Comment by June

What is wrong with using Obama’s middle name? This is the name he has chosen or was given at birth. Many of us use our middle name. If he is not proud of this name why didn’t he denounce it a long time ago. This is silly to make a deal of this.June

Comment by dan brown

probably was not the smart thing to do on the name. However, Mccain has got to be very aggresive on showing the public all the charactor and judgement flaws that make Obama who he really is. Obama will have his answers, but Mccain needs to be ready to address Obamas answers.

Comment by Hugh P

I have to say that any negative attack shows me fear from Gov. Palin. I want my leader to be confident and not having the feeling a negative attack is needed to replace the fact that issues out there need to be addressed such as the economy, health insurance, national security to compliment grace, class, honor and integrity. Do away with desperate acts, and use common sense and bring in the undecideds. Is it better to lose in desperation while losing your honor and integrity, or better to lose holding your head high? I will not support negativity, but honor and integrity will gain my loyal 100% support always.

Comment by Been around the block

For crying out loud that is his name. If he thinks it is a negative to use it, maybe he should change it.

Comment by iibhawaii

Sen.Clinton tried to discredit Sen. Obama using these same tactics …. we all know the outcome.

Comment by greg norman

Yeah. The truth hurts sometimes. Their reaction to saying his real middle name in addition to speaking the truth about who obama really is, i’m sure is disturbing too his campaign. And mccain is right. You never hear obama give a reson for his choices. he knows how to call the opponent a liar.

I that not his name. What is the big deal? Are they trying to hide something; you can bet your life on it. He is a radical. He is connected to Ayers and he can’t deny it but he certainly would like to keep it covered up. Go Sarah. Get the word out.

Comment by Sherri

LOL! Why shouldnt his name be used. He uses everything he can againist McCain.

Comment by Observer

Why am I not surprised that these are the depths that the Palin/McCain campaign machine will sink to?
Why is this so typical of the methods used by this campaign and their organizers?
The later repudiation is a base hypocrisy. Either you knew it was coming or you have no control over th people you are working with, and allows clearly racist people to introduce you TODAY.
Not 10 years ago, not 20 years ago, you allow clearly racist people to introduce you TODAY, during this election.
The good people of the USA should be able to wake up to the nature of the Palin/McCain candidates and the type of people they want to have follow the 8 catastrophic years of Bush.
They are desparate people today, sadly desparate.

I do not understand the fact that you are not allowed to use his middle name. If obama does not want his Middle name used then he should change it. He knows it reminds Americans of terrorist and so its off limits. But the real issue is : hussain is his name.

Comment by Illinois citizen

Funny Whn using a persons middle name can not be allowed. Wake up people. This man can not defend his associations, his voting record or lack there of. His most popular plan is 390 billion in intitlement spending that we simply can’t afford. Everyone is talking about Palin’s lack of experiance this man has no experiance and has done nothing but make speeches and write two autbiographys. Why should he be elected? And why should we not use the mans middle name?

Comment by JH

Are you kidding me? Since when is it politically incorrect to use a candidate’s middle name? If Obama is so ahsamed of his middle name, why doesn’t he change it? This is so ridiculous, Obama has been so protected and cushioned from any kind of real scrutiny that the American public has been blinded by the bias, it’s high time to get to know the REAL obama!

How is it inappropriate rhetoric to use his middle name? The republicans didn’t name him his mother and father did.

I think it is about time people start questioning this guy? I don’t care for anyone who does not stand 100% behind our troops and america. How can anyone vote for someone who does not even pledge alligence to our flag that all our grandparents fought for this country. People better wake up.

Comment by Skott

Doesn’t this campaign realize that we want solutions to problems, not just attack after attack. The McCain campaign is showing the worst of politics when America is crying for the best. We need leaders not sarcastic pitbulls. They are making Obama look like the reasonable adult in the conversation.

May God help you all and help the rest of the world if John Mcain and Sarah Palin are elected.

Please explain article headline like the one copied below from earlier in the week on FOX internet. I have seen a lot of articles about race, tending to group white people together as prejudice when it comes to voting for the President in the Fall elections.

Could it be that most Amercians do not trust Obama? Maybe it is his radical left wing liberal policies mirroring socialism? Possibly his wrong outline on world affairs? Or his friends like Rezko, Wright, Ayers, and Farrakhan? I think it could be his flip flopping on every major concept/idea to appeal to all voters when he chooses to.

Why is it inappropriate to use a persons middle name? It is what it is and I don’t understand why it’s “off limits”. We are talking about a person who is running for the highest office in our country…I think it’s good to be reminded of “who” he is.

It’s against the law for a Police officer/ Sherriff or it’s department to purposely racially profile anyone! Now, this is Obama’s middle name, but it wasn’t used as a name pursay, but as a racial profile against Mr. Obama. This Sherriff should not only be call up on the carpet, but should be investigated to see what other problems he may have agaist minoritys or religiouse foundation groups and see if he has used his power in the past to racially profile people in his county. This was unfair targeting of Mr. Obama, and the crowd cheers knew that he was useing the racial profile as to smear Mr. Obama! Officers of the law cannot legally do this, and he needs to give Mr. Obama a public apology and be severely repremended for this type of behavior.

Comment by steve

I would hate to be a black male in that county. The sheriff is racist and should not be allowed to have that kind of power.

Comment by Karon

It s his middle name, isn’t it?

Shameless is the only word to describe this. Palin/McCain’s low blowing ticket can’t win on the issues so they’re going to use fear. It’s the Republican way and it’s the reason the Republican Brand is getting less and less popular in the country.

The McCain campaign is clearly attempting to play on racist and fear-mongering sympathies. The American public is smarter than that.

JOHN MCCAIN NOT BAPTIZED- HE IS NOT A CHRISTIAN.
In the midst of what looks to be a bruising campaign battle which will probably get very, very, nasty, I was reading the New Yorker of September 15, 2008, and re-discovered the “fact,” on page 56, that John McCain has never been baptized. Normally, I would gloss right over this “fact” but “the fact is” (how I hate that phrase) an un-baptized John is non-Christian (the person not the room). The basic qualification in all denominations is baptism, so how does John claim to be a Christian when by definition he is not? Where one might go with this flag-lapel pin type little tidbit I do not know, but when Barack’s religious credentials are challenged as often as they are on the internet it raises all kinds of interesting possibilities to distress John about his religious beliefs.

If John really supports good Christian values shouldn’t he be a “real Christian”? Is he afraid to proclaim Jesus is his savior, and be immersed in the Baptismal font of the Phoenix Baptist Church where he claims membership? Is he actually an agnostic or perhaps, perish the thought, an atheist? Is he afraid to tell us what he really believes? Is John, who lived 6 years in Viet Nam, actually a Buddhist? And, just think about poor Sarah! Here she is, a good saved Pentecostal, who is forced to associate with a non-Christian. I would think she might be worried about the condition of her soul after associating with someone who is so weak kneed that he is afraid to be baptized! She may need her witch doctor to do an exorcism!! Yes, John is a Maverick, a person who doesn’t have the strength of character to be either fish or fowl. He stands by himself! Not owning his non-Christian faith, and not proclaiming what he really believes.

If Obama does not like his middle name he can denounce it like all other aspects of his life that Americans(voters) find unappealing.

“You reap what you sow” This means Obama shouldn’t be crying now. He deserves what is happening to him now and whatever comes out in the future. It is the people’s right to know who he exactly is. If he doesn’t like it, too bad!!! He should have thought about it a long time ago.
I wonder if he will continue the habits of hanging around the wrong people, but at his age and being who he thinks he is, he’s got a long way to go before trying to become President. In addition, he is in complete denial on the Ayer’s, Roscoe, etc….situations; what does he think people are???
I think there is nothing else for him to do but to explain, explain his situation away……though I doubt intelligent people will understand and believe him as he should really tell the “truth” and not a bunch of excuses. Accept reality man!!!!

I think Palin needs to go back to Alaska before she damages the republican party to point of no return. Everyone knows Palin is Stupid and a total DUD and anything she says has no value or rather taken the opposite. The Mccain campaign has resorted to downright dirty and un-ethical tactics against the Obama
campaign. To think Senator Obama was running around with Mr. Ayers in the 1960’s planning
and bombing federal institutions at the age of 8 is not only an ignorant claim, Oh but governor
Palin made it clear he’s only palling around with known terrorists. I’m sure Governor palin
being the Republican puppet that she is can’t distinguish between what is Fact and what is
fiction. I believe all this has been brought up already including Rev. Wright’s un-american
comments in which Mr. Obama has denounced his preachings along with Mr. Ayers past.
Shame on Mccain and Palin. Or maybe i should say Mcshame and Failin.
