CBS POLL: ITS CLOSE AGAIN, OBAMA 47, MCCAIN 43

Obama 47, McCain 43 (MOE 4)

In a sign that the race for president has returned to about where it was before the first presidential debate, the Obama-Biden ticket leads the McCain-Palin ticket 47 percent to 43 percent among registered voters in a new CBS News poll.

The Obama-Biden ticket led by a wider margin, nine percentage points, in a CBS News poll released last Wednesday, before Joe Biden and Sarah Palin faced off in the vice presidential debate. Obama-Biden led by five percentage points on Sept. 25.

In the new poll, the Democratic ticket leads by 3 percentage points, 48 percent to 45 percent, among likely voters.

Barack Obama holds a 20 point lead in terms of enthusiasm. Fifty-eight percent of Obama voters say they are very enthusiastic about their candidate, while only 38 percent of John McCain voters say the same about the Arizona senator.

Roughly one in five registered voters have yet to commit to a candidate, though they may lean towards one or the other.

I am disappointed and disturbed on Fox Station’s constant condescension toward the democratic party. It is consistently providing bias opinions without the virtue of objective new casting, which is your prime directive to the American public. Shame on you for using the news to engage in political persuasion tactics.

Comment by Christine ONeill

I think it is absolutely absurd, immoral, and a true injustice to the voting population of the US and to the candidates to basically declare the race for President over using polls that are made up of 1,000 people. The media and the pollsters are electing our next President before we even have a chance to do so ourself. These polls influence people’s thinking on how to vote. All this as a result of 1,000 “likely” voters with a 3% + or - margin of error.

There needs to be something done about this.

Fellow McCain/Palin supporters, we must spread the word, tell everyone we know, That the only vote is the McCain/Palin ticket. They have to hear the words of Obama. How he wants to change our country to something that our founder fathers would not have wanted. They fought for our freedom. Now as they fought for us,let us in return fight the fight. Protect the USA from SOCIALISTS.
Remember Michelle only know is proud to be American. What does the tell you people?
All you Obama supporters you better take a hard look at what he is about. Once you get past the glamour he wants you to see and open your eyes, you will see that he is not the best man for the job. He will strip us of our freedoms. I do not want the kind of life where Government tells me what Doctor I can see.
VOTE John McCain November 4th

Really not sure how you come up with these polls when many I know are not doing this
but we certainly know who our candidate will be when we go to the polls in Nov. Of course
John McCain and Sarah Palin, there is no doubt. I am really proud of John McCain for going
after Obama and Sarah Palin as well , this definitley needs to be brought to the attention of
the American People and answered by Obama. They would make McCain answer with no
\ question if it was him. It is a little scarey . I love my country and what it stands for and Pray
that is not broken. As a Believer Family values are very important and should be upheld.
I am saddened by all the rhetoric of some of the media not all of them. some have more
integrity than others. I do love Fox News otherwise. I feel this Election is in God’s Hands ,
So In God We Trust as we go forward.
Have a Nice Evening, Christine

Its not that close according to the averages on the polls taken on the same day some go as high as 8 points and overal the average is 6 points. Obama now leads Missouri,North Carolina, New Mexico, Colorado, and other battle ground states with Texas and Georgia closing. It is 353 to practically no chance. Good luck. Wink. Wink.

If that’s how McCain/Palin run a campaign, one can only imagine how they would run a country. And Palin may be a loud mothed pitbull, but the videos of her religios insanity have helped me gain Obama several sure votes. Keep up the good work McCain/Palin. You are digging your own graves. People want change, not angry war monger attack artists. We need financial security not loud mouths.

During America’s next self-inflicted crisis, I want my President to be able to coherently explain the problems and solutions, in contrast to our last 8 years with our current President. I don’t think I’m asking too much when I ask for basic competency.

We Americans need to be informed on the new war with Iran, governmental action in the depression, oil reserves running dry after oil prices triple etc. etc.

In the poll of polls obama has been increasing his lead since both of the debates. All the other polls have obama at 50-53 percent and john macain hoovering around 43 percent. This site is just spin. Look up the other tracking polls and make judgement about if this is right, or an outlier.

A. One poll doesn’t tell the story.

B. Take a look at the data at pollster.com. They track all polls and they are showing Obama having his biggest lead yet.

C. States have been shifting towards Obama and away from McCain.

D. Since 1936 there have been only 16 candidates to get 50% in the tracking polls. Of those only two lost. There have also been only 14 candidates to have an 8% lead in at least one Gallup Pole. Of those only 1 lost.

Personal attacks on Obama by the McCain campaign may have played a role in narrowing the gap but such attacks are going to backfire. Voters know that McCain is doing this out of desperation. They also know that he’s not addressing the nation’s economic problems the way Obama is. The economy is the most important thing in this election.

Republicans can continue with their personal attacks on Obama. But the voters are smarter than that. They know why he and his attack dog Sarah Palin are doing this. They also know why some of those who support him are also doing the same thing. It’s only going to alienate millions of voters; not thousands but millions.

I’m an independent and I have not yet made up my mind. But the more I see Republicans attacking Obama, even questioning his patriotism, the more I’m inclined to believe that McCain has lost his focus. At least he admitted he doesn’t know much about the economy. So how can he fix it?

If he starts talking about the economy, offering solutions the way Obama does, he may get my attention and that of many independent voters. Otherwise this election - is over! And wait for Obama’s inauguration.

Two years ago we were all doing great. Then a Democratic Congress was voted in. It only took them 2 years to distroy this Country. People want to blame Bush for this mess, but this is a result of the Dem’s. This congress has a lower approval rating than Bush, 20 % approval. Nancy needs to go home. Go McCain/Palin.

IT WAS CLOSE! The McCain Campaign almost told the truth about something.
What was it again?

Comment by RRG

make sure and publish the other poll too.

THE NUMBERS: Barack Obama 53 percent, John McCain 42 percent
OF INTEREST: Obama’s 11-percentage-point lead over McCain comes when three minor party candidates are included; when Obama and McCain are matched exclusively, Obama leads 53 percent to 45 percent. Either way, Obama’s lead has grown from the narrow advantage he had two weeks ago in this same poll. Forty-three percent say Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is qualified to be president if necessary, while 80 percent say so about her Democratic counterpart, Joe Biden. Six in 10 think Obama will win the election.

JOHN MCCAIN IS NOT BAPTIZED- THAT MEANS HE IS NOT A CHRISTIAN
In the midst of what looks to be a bruising campaign battle which will probably get very, very, nasty, I was reading the New Yorker of September 15, 2008, and re-discovered the “fact,” on page 56, that John McCain has never been baptized. Normally, I would gloss right over this “fact” but “the fact is” (how I hate that phrase) an un-baptized John is non-Christian (the person not the room). The basic qualification in all denominations is baptism, so how does John claim to be a Christian when by definition he is not? Where one might go with this flag-lapel pin type little tidbit I do not know, but when Barack’s religious credentials are challenged as often as they are on the internet it raises all kinds of interesting possibilities to distress John about his religious beliefs.

If John really supports good Christian values shouldn’t he be a “real Christian”? Is he afraid to proclaim Jesus is his savior, and be immersed in the Baptismal font of the Phoenix Baptist Church where he claims membership? Is he actually an agnostic or perhaps, perish the thought, an atheist? Is he afraid to tell us what he really believes? Is John, who lived 6 years in Viet Nam, actually a Buddhist? And, just think about poor Sarah! Here she is, a good saved Pentecostal, who is forced to associate with a non-Christian. I would think she might be worried about the condition of her soul after associating with someone who is so weak kneed that he is afraid to be baptized! She may need her witch doctor to do an exorcism!! Yes, John is a Maverick, a person who doesn’t have the strength of character to be either fish or fowl. He stands by himself! Not owning his non-Christian faith, and not proclaiming what he really believes.

It would be excellent to have the candidates focus on issues in the last one month other than attacking each other.

Comment by David

It’s not a close race… McCain is on his last leg of this race and he will have to get negative. Unfortunately for him people like me remember the Keating 5 and how deregulation and Reaganomics got us into this. The Keating situation shows the lack of judgment Senator McCain has and it has swayed my vote to Barack Obama and Joe Biden in 2008!!!!

Comment by White Independent

Polls in five key battleground states in the race for the White House released Tuesday suggest that Sen. Barack Obama is making major gains. Voters in Indiana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio and Wisconsin reflect a significant nationwide shift toward the Democratic presidential nominee.

Comment by Editor

Tonight’s debate could be a major turning point in the campaign. This will be the first town hall style debate with both candidates — a format that favors McCain. So, while this poll is interesting, and possible good news for McCain-Palin, tonight’s debate should be an even better indicator.

i don’t have alot of faith in polls. In 2000, at this time, Al Gore was ahead of Bush by 51% to 40%. And Bush went on to win. Just hope voters keep in mind that Obama is the number 1 liberal in the senate, and Joe Biden is number 3. Obama will raise taxes on everybody, not just on those that make over 250,00 like he states. He will do and say anything to get elected. Polls may show Obama widening his lead over Mccain, but people should never under estimate John Mccain. After all that he’s been thru in his life, he certainly is a proven fighter, and he will come back and be President John McCain on Nov.4.

If McCain keeps acting like Scrooge and yelling Humbug! at everything, he will finish himself. McCain’s question mark was always his personality. He’s erratic and short-tempered. That is not a good image to promote or cultivate.

Also, Sarah Palin, the Evangelical Pit-Bull is a contradiction in terms. Her attacks are unbecoming, to say the least and it would help for her to focus on the truth, not become the face of lies and exaggerations. For goodness sake, she’s in a glass house and it’s very easy to throw stones.

Both McCain and Palin need to get back to a civilized campaign. Otherwise, we look at McCain and we see Cheney. We look at Palin and we see Geraldine Ferraro gone wild.

It’s good to remake your image, but not into that.

Hey Alaska! We loved the Aerial Gunning of Wolves video! Yeah, I have been e-mailing Sarah Palin for nearly two years regarding this unsportsman trophy hunting issue.

Google Aerial Gunning of Wolves Sarah Palin and see what pops up. Because of this and her suing because the Polar Bear was listed as an endangered species, along with the fact that she is not experienced to run the country if McCain passes away… and the fact that she is knows nothing about the economy or other important issues… and the fact that she and Alaska charges victims for rape kits… are just a few of the many many reasons that I’m voting for Obama.

Ok Senator McCain… I know you want this job. So show the American people that. Give us enthusiasm that you want this. This time, please finally give a crystal clear picture of your visions and policies on kitchen table topics that are weighing heavily on our minds. We don’t want to just hear you will fix and change things. We know you want to change and shake up Washington. How are you going to do it? We want a blow by blow picture on how you are going to do this. I think the majority of American people are just looking for an honest, dependable president that’s going to look out for us for a change. I don’t think I can handle too much more of these self-interest politicians that are too willing to sell their souls just to make a buck.

What is the matter with everyone?
We have a clear choice of the future of our country and its downtrodden people.
We can elect Senator McCain as our president, who believes in the old tired system of free enterprise, and a government of the people, which has always been part of the American culture and thus part of the problem. A moderate who believes in a free market with less government control. One who believes, we Americans should be responsible for our own well being, which includes our own Health insurance, Jobs, credit scores, acquiring wealth and (gulp) living within our means. Tired, Tired, Tired)
OR.
We can elect Senator Obama, who is, after years of trying, is exactly what this country needs. An elected president from the far left, who believes that it’s the Government who should be responsible for our lives and not us. Imagine a government that will make sure we have all that we need. No longer will we need to worry about Health insurance, Jobs, and homes. No longer will we need to make big decisions. The government will do it for us. We won’t have to worry about Credit scores for the purchase of cars and homes. No longer will we have to worry about creating wealth, we will be able to take from the rich, and give it to those of us who really need it. I agree with Senator Obama, it’s about time the wealthy shared some of what they earned with me and others like me. Yes, at last, we as a people will have everything we want in a government.

Let’s see now, what do I want? Well, I want a new car, and possibly one of the seven homes that Senator McCain has. (After all he has more then he needs).

Folks it is time for a change so let’s get on Senator Obama’s feed wagon. We will never have to worry again.

Can’t Wait—

hahaha! John Smith, have you ever watched CNN? They are consistently condescending toward the republican party and provide bias opinions. This poll takes into account people who were not polled but who will vote, and (unlike the other polls) people who are polled but will not likely vote. This is what makes this poll different and more accurate than the others. No matter what the polls suggest (they show a probability based on a voting class of less than 1:10,000) McCain will most likely win. He is much different than Bush, no matter how hard Obama tries to put the two of them in one container. McCain has a lot of experience but Obama looks much better in front of a camera. Many people focus on the wrong characteristic when choosing a president. This is not the president of your high school class–America as a world leader needs a fitting president who believes in the values and greatness of this country.

I get a big kick out of people like Patriot1776, someone who posted one of the first few comments here. They troll the internet all night looking for places to spread their rot because no one — not even their freidns and family — listens to them in their real lives because they have nothing worthwhile to offer. But I am glad to see their comments because then I have constant reminders that people like them exist and how we must all remain vigilant becasue subversive people like that are out there. Eventually, these people burn out or do themselves in, anbd that is fun to see.

As far as my own beliefs are cocnerned, polls are interesting, but there is only one poll that counts, and that is the poll that takes palce in polling place on election day. So to all I say, register now and make sure you vote on November 4th. And if you believe in the future of this country, please remember to pull the level that has the names “Obama-Biden” in it. Obama’s the ONE.
