Preface: I am in no way impugning what happened to Sen. McCain in Vietnam. He went through something horrible and we should honor him for his service.

Here’s the main problem with what his campaign, and this article, is saying. There are people out there who are paralyzed from the neck down who can operate computers through voice commands and optical inputs. Look at Stephen Hawking. His entire body is paralyzed and he still uses his computer.

I think this is a case of McCain’s campaign trying to cover him for being out-of-touch with both the 20th AND 21st centuries.

My father-in-law is blind - but he uses a computer. In fact the computer has allowed people with all forms of disability - including mobility limitations - to enter the workforce and earn a pay check. Its a matter of necessity for most of us.

My father-in-law has never used his disability as an excuse - and for an able person like McCain to suggest that he suffers from injuries that keep him from entering the information age is a complete cop-out.

Sure, he may not be able to sit at a desk for prolonged periods of time. (This is even debatable with portable lap tops and other gadgets that allow people to use computers longer).

These war injuries do not prevent McCain from having the basic knowledge as to how the computer and internet works. As the entire world operates through the internet now, the next Presidents has to understand all the issues this entails including cybersecurity.
