Palin Delivers the Punch
By Jennifer Nassour, Massachusetts Delegate
One word: SARAH!!!!!!!!!! How fantastic was she??? The energy in the Convention Center was absolutely amazing. She received a standing ovation that lasted about 5 minutes and wowed the crowd from the moment she began to speak. Sarah Palin made some great remarks (not sure if they were covered on the news stations)…one of which was that the “difference between a hockey mom and a bulldog is lipstick” and another somewhere along the line of change is not a destination just as hope is not a strategy. She was amazing! She acknowledged that her family, like all of ours, is normal and not perfect. She was honest, confident, eloquent, BOLD and BRAVE! Hopefully, all of you watching on TV felt the same power that we all did in the Xcel Center.
Now, to be honest, last night listening to Rudy I thought I was going to begin with him. He was remarkable! Our delegation was holding on to his every word. Unfortunately, he missed the boat as a Presidential candidate, but he definitely still has it. Rudy is a true leader. He got the crowd ready by simply motivating the hell out of them with his words. I always have and always will think Rudy Guiliani is one of the most incredible politicians out there.
After the Convention, a few of us went across the street to a reception for McCain Friends and Family. Actor Jon Voight spoke to the crowd of a few hundred. We also had the pleasure of meeting and taking pictures with Former Maryland Lt. Governor Michael Steele (Chair of GOPAC). He was so nice and wonderful to speak with! Overall, it was a good day for Republicans out here in Minnesota (and hopefully everywhere)!
THURSDAY:
This morning was another fun filled morning. It began with a breakfast, at our hotel, with Governors Carcieri (R.I.) and Douglas (VT). They spoke to us about the challenges Republican Governors, in low Republican enrollment states (like MA) face. They also both expressed how much they enjoyed having Governors Weld, Cellucci, Swift and Romney as neighboring Governors….of course, they are hoping that we can once again elect another Republican Governor in MA!
After the breakfast, I headed over to a McCain for Women Luncheon honoring Cindy McCain. There must have been about 2,000 people enjoying lunch, followed by remarks from Todd Palin (he is very funny…) and Cindy McCain.
Cindy McCain, was radiant, as usual. She is a wonderful speaker and a fantastic woman who wants just help women and children in need. She said that her husband told her she would never have to give a speech, but here she is! She said when the journey to the Presidency first began 18 months ago, she lost both of her parents and suffered a stroke. Cindy McCain seems to be just like us, a good mom, wife, and working woman….
Now, for the absolute highlight of my day so far (still need to get to the Convention)….I had the chance to talk with and take a photo with Former U.S. Senator Alfonse D’Amato! So incredibly exciting! As I think I mentioned on Day #1, he is one of my hero’s! I love the guy! He was a U.S. Senator when I began my interest and quest to be politically active and he was a Professor of mine in Graduate School at C.W. Post University. The man is wonderful…he even remembered me (so he said, but I don’t care, I’ll go with him remembering me)!
I am off to the Convention for what promises to be a GREAT night!

This entire RNC is insulting. Anyone catch Newt on the Daily Show last night? Even these corrupt Republicans know this is all BS. I can’t take it anymore of their lying, their fear tactics and their asinine ideals and I am appalled that reporters just give them this pedestal to set there agenda. There are only a select few journalists (huffington post, CNN) who counter their two-faced tactics, and champion the truth. The current republican party is ran by uneducated people who have nominate an uneducated ticket and target uneducated poor Americans… The sad thing is people will buy what these evil people say…. and do no further research. Such a disgrace to this nation. Great article…. I’m praying for someone to bring out the truth no matter what the consequences.
grand slam, slam dunk, hat trick…
Barack Obama for President of the UNITED States of America.
Go Barack !
McCain and Palin all the way from a moderate.
You know she will be the next President of the United States……after her 4 years as Vice President….
Palin did excite the band of loyalists in the convention hall. She lost the independents at the same time. The republican base is not large enough to elect McCain.
A very nicely done embed report! It made me feel like I was there at the Convention.
At a time when many pundits are asking are national conventions really necessary?,
this piece by Jennifer Nassour answers that clearly: yes they are!
I especially liked her female perspective on the impact of Governor Sarah Palin.
Good job!
excuse me, maybe I’m the only one in america that didn’t see what was so great about it. just a lot of screeching with no substance.
What out McCain… Palin has taken over the Republican party…..
PALIN DELIVERS NOTHING BUT LIES…SHE LIED ABOUT SELLING THE JET ON EBAY FOR A PROFIT BECAUSE THE JET WAS SOLD TO A PRIVATE OWNER FOR LESS THAN WHAT IT WAS WORTH…SHE LIED AND SAID IF ELECTED SHE WOULD MAKE SURE PEOPLE WHO HAVE KIDS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS WOULD BE HEARD THAT WAS ALSO A LIE BECAUSE SHE CUT FUNDING 62% FOR KIDS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS…SHE ALSO LIED ABOUT THE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE WHICH IS EXACTLY WHERE THIS COUNTRY IS GOING IF PALIN/McCAIN IS ELECTED…THE TRUTH WILL COME OUT SOONER OR LATER…BUT AMERICA WILL HAVE TO TUNE INTO CNN OR BBC WORLD NEWS FOR THE TRUTH.
THAT BULL DOG WILL SOON WIPE THAT LIPSTICK OFF AND CRAWL INTO HER ALASKAN HUT!!!
PRESIDENT OBAMA/VP BIDEN ‘08 AND ‘12
Mrs. Palin is just the right kind of punch that the conservative right needed to get excited about
this election. just a thought

They say; “If you want to have something done, give that task to a busy person”. Busy persons are at the same time productive persons, and that’s Sara. As far as “raising children at the same time” is concerned, clearly it is a matter of pessimistic prejudice to say she can’t do it. Multitasking is another term for what will be (is being) done. This spirit is what we have been waiting for in the Republican Party. Momentum should build now that shall carry through mid-November.
JfK ran the country while little John was under his desk, everyone thought it was so cute.
What’s the difference between JFK & Gov. Palin………..JFK was a Dem.
TO ALL OF THESE INTELLEGENT FOX NEWS PEOPLE THAT TAKE THEIR PLATFORM TO BASH OBAMA…YOU ALL LOOK REALLY STUPID TO VIEWERS..FIRST OF ALL YOU ARE BIAS AND IT IS CLEAR. AS FOR MY VOTE IT, HAS NOT CHANGED WITH THE VICE PRESIDENTIAL CHOICE. REMEMBER THIS IS AMERICA, YOU CAN CHOOSE WHOEVER YOU WANT. NOW AS FOR IT BEING A FEMALE, SO WHAT. NOW IF HE REALLY WANTED SEN CLINTONS VOTES, WHY NOT CHOOSE SEN CLINTON? HE’D HAVE A BETTER CHANCE THAN THE PERSON HE CHOSE. I’LL TELL YOU ONE REASON WHY, SHE’S (CLINTON) MORE QUALIFIED THE MCCAIN, AND YES SHE’S A STRONG DEMOCRATE. NOW ALL OF THIS PETTY STUFF YOU ALL TALK ABOUT, IS JUST THAT TO THE PEOPLE, WHO HAVE THEIR MINDS MADEUP. SO LIGHTEN UP AND TALK REAL ISSUES. THE FACT THAT OBAMA GOT DONE IN THE COMMUNITIES AND HELPED DEVELOP JOBS AND LIVEABLE CONDITIONS FOR THE PEOPLE. HELLO. BECAREFUL WHAT YOU MAKE LITTLE OF.
I AM FROM ILLINOIS AND I AM BACKING OBAMA/BIDEN, BECAUSE, I BELIEVE IN WHAT THEY STAND FOR, THE ORDINARY PEOPLE AND WHAT IS SO BAD ABOUT THAT. I LISTENED TO PALIN’S SPEECH AND WAS REALLY LET DOWN. NOTHING ON ISSUES. ANOTHER BASH OBAMA….
IN RESPONSE TO SHOULD OPRAH HAVE PALIN ON HER SHOW? I AM REALLY GLAD SHE’S NOT. FOR WHAT? AA ATTEMPT TO BASH OBAMA. IT IS CLEAR OPRAH IS FOR OBAMA AND LIKE IT OR NOT, THAT’S HER RIGHT. YOU ARE A NEWS MEDIA AND IT IS CLEAR TO ME WHO YOU ARE FOR. NOW WITH THAT SAID, I BELIEVE MOST OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE SMART ENOUGH TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION, BASED ON WHAT THEY BELIEVE. BUT REALLY THE BASHING SPEECHES DO NOT HELP THE MCCAIN CAMP. TELL ME WHAT YOU ARE DOING FOR THE PEOPLE. OBAMA/BIDEN IS VERY CLEAR ON THEIR ISSUES. SO CLEAR THAT I CAN QUOTE THEM FOR YOU. BUT ON THE OTHER HAND IF YOU ASK WHAT MCCAIN/PALIN’S ISSUES ARE THERE IS A BLANK. NOW THAT SHOULD TROUBLE THEIR CAMPAIGN PEOPLE. HONESTLY THEY ARE NOT GETTING THEIR ISSUES/AGENDA OUT TO THE PEOPLE. ALL I HEAR THEM SAYING IS OBAMA IS NOT QUALIFIED. WHICH DOESNOT HOLD WATER. BUT TELL ME WHY YOU (MCCAIN)IS. BEING A PRISONER OF WAR IS TO BE COMMENDED BUT DOESNOT QUALIFY YOU TO BE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. BUT THEN AGAIN OPRAH, SHOULD PROBABLY GIVE PALIN A CHANCE TO REDEEM HERSELF, BECAUSE AS A VOTING AMERICAN/FEMALE, SHE LET ME DOWN WITH HER SPEECH. THAT WAS NOT A GOOD INTRODUCTION TO THE PEOPLE. GOP OR DEM.
I’m a younger, female baby-boomer, having turned 55 last week. Up until now, I have had no particular interest in seeing a woman be elected to high office. Watching Nancy Pelosi abuse her power in such inept ways has been enough for me. But now, after seeing Sarah Palin, hearing her speak, and watching the love, respect, and trust her family has for one another, I have become a wildly motivated supporter. (And if this is a sample of John McCain’s decision-making, he’s got my vote for President.) I see in Sarah Palin a young Ronald Reagan, and I have waited twenty years to be this excited about a candidate. The fact that she’s a woman is irrelevant. It’s the strength of character, the grace under pressure, and the gutsy approach she has taken on so many issues that remind me of “The Gipper”. You go, girl!
