LIEUTENANT Governor Palin?

MANASSAS, VA — Joe Biden’s had a lot of praise for Alaska Governor Sarah Palin — maybe too much praise. He’s said all day that Palin did “a good job” in her convention speech last night, and calling her a tough debate opponent, he seems to be raising expectations for her debate performance next month. But he can also sounds a bit patronizing.

At a sparsely attended discussion at George Mason’s Prince WIlliam County campus, Biden went a step further in at the same time praising and denigrating Palin — demoting his Republican rival in remarks about last night’s big convention speech.

“Last night the Republicans began to get to the main act. At the Republican convention, I heard a lot of attacks on Barack Obama and a few on me,” he said.  “But I also heard something else. I heard a lot of the traditional, at least this new Republican party, the Bush party, I heard a lot of appeals to division in America. I heard a lot of scare tactics. I heard a lot of things that weren’t accurate.”

Biden wasn’t only hearing things that he thought weren’t accurate, he was saying them as well. “The other thing I heard, I heard a very by the way, and I mean it sincerely, a very strong and a very good political speech from a lieutenant governor of Alaska, who I think is going to be very formidable,” he continued. “Very formidable, not only in the campaign but in the debate.”

The audience didn’t seem to mind. Jennifer Halpin of Leesburg, VA rose to excoriate the GOP for nominating a woman and expecting other women to fall in line. “I think it’s preposterous for Republicans to think we’re going to be dumb enough to turn into stepford wives and vote for Republicans,” she said.

“Spoken like my wife, daughter and sister,” Biden replied.

I’m a bit concerned with the McCain/Palin energy policy (especially in regard to drilling in the ANWR). Given the state of the environment these days I think it is important for us, as consumers to support ‘green business.’ For example, http://www.simplestop.net stops your postal junk mail and benefits the environment.

So, Biden has already started the put-downs. Or can we assume that he is getting too olad and forgetful like som nay liberals think of John McCain?

C’mon! You’re writing for a professional news network, however flimsy and partisan it may be. The very least you can do is make sure your sentences make sense to your readers.

If the Republican ticket wins this November, people like you will deserve exactly what you get…

Palin wasn’t necessarily picked to get Hillary’s votes. She was picked to gin up the base. It worked.

Comment by Lane

“lieutenant?” He did not say that? It must be a miss-print? If he is going to be this arrogant this far out of the debate, it is going to be easy pickings for her. Of course, let’s not forget this also comes from a man who just loves to talk about how smart he is. So, he is not only sexist, he is also arrogant.

1) Not a Coherent statement I believe you mean “But he can also sound a bit” or “but he also sounds a bit” but you can’t put both.
2) NOT A FULL SENTENCE. SHOULD READ “he seems to be raising expectations for her debate performance next month, but he . . . .”

Comment by John from ILLinNOISE

I wonder how many women would have agreed Joe’s “wife, daughter, and sister” at a hockey practice, Sam’s Club or Special Needs Support group? When he and Obama are on college campuses among “friendlies” it does nothing to expand the base.

Governor Palin will expand the base and energize exactly the kind of voters that are needed to put an end to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi’s dreams of uni-party rule.

Come on now, try to be a little civilized. Concerning the quote in the article “I think it’s preposterous for Republicans to think we’re going to be dumb enough to turn into stepford wives and vote for Republicans,”… I think this is a hateful attack on the move The Stepford Wives — a good movie, and from my recollection, the wives in the movie were never as mean and nasty as the democrats have been this election season.

Come on, that’s a joke son.

However, maybe you could stop being a Stepford Democrat and think about voting for McCain/Palin or at least ask yourself “Do I really have any knowledge of what Obama’s plans and dreams are if he is elected. Can he get it done (if there is anything concrete he really wants to do other than be president).

In all seriousness, the republicans (Jo Ann Davidson, the chairwoman of the convention organizing committee specifically) nominated “Sarah Pawlenty” for vice president.

Lets be real here. A slip of the tongue on both sides of this partisan wall we have is one thing. Playing with semantics to mislead the American people is quite another. Palin asserted that Obama had not sponsored a single “major” piece of legislation in his time in the Senate on both the state and federal level. This is simply not true unless you redefine the word major.

AP released an article today covering some of these stretches. It is a shame that the Republican party feels it not only necessary, but acceptable, to mislead the American people.

Actually, after watching the convention for 2 nights, I am considering voting Democratic or Libertarian in the election. Where is the “maverick” McCain. We have been trying to move the party from the religious right, and thought McCain was our man. Apparently he’s not. Biden sounds more and more reasonable, and so does Obama. Where’s the party of Reagan? What’s happened to my party?

Lieutenant governor Palin will mop the floor with Lunchpail Joe. Her speech was a walk-off grand slam.

It is a horrible mistake for Mrs. Palin to slam community organizors.

Community organizors bring people together to act in common goal and is an ideal of participatory democracy. Belittling community organizors insults everyone who has ever worked on a group church project, built a barn for a neighbor, got involved in a “meals on wheels” project, gathered volunteers for Hospice care– and the list goes on.

I sincerely wish that Sarah Palin cease the vitriolic rhetoric and stick to the issues that must be addressed for the good of the american people.

Biden’s demonstrated his confusion for facts for a long time, at least since he stole the Labor ministers speech when he was running for Prez in the past.

The domocrat women hate Palin because she too smart and pretty, a total opposite from them. Most importantly, they hate Palin for her belief that women should not depend on government assistance. They hate any women that are strong that’s why they kicked Hillary out of the race.

Sarah Palin is GOVERNOR, not ieutenant governor…….is he demoting her? -or is this a typical biden gaffe? Hmmm.

Comment by Joe Carozza

Er, I don’t recall the part in “Stepford Wives” where the wives have careers and the husbands take car of the kids at home. Must have missed that part.

Comment by Bortly bortwiser

Choosing palin was OBVIOUSLY a tactical move, because of her AGE and SEX. There were no other, more qualified persons to be considered? Of course there were. There wouldn’t be a single person to say that Hillary Clinton was in the race because she was a woman. Or that Obama was in the race because he’s black. But, Palin was chosen as a tactic, and not for her abilities.

This “tactic” shows plainly what the Republican party thinks of the American voter, - “SHEEP”. Any thinking person viewing the election process who isn’t INSULTED by this kind of tactic, needs to go back to elementary school.

I honestly wasn’t decided on who to vote for. But now, the answer is plain to see. Obama.

What I don’t understand is why the democrats keep comparing Obama to Palin. Obama is running for president not Palin. She’s just the VP.

At some point soon, there will have to be a disconnect between Palins mouth and her teleprompter and she will have to use her God given backup system — her brain. This will be the real test of her abilities. She is a great speech reader, and no doubt a good student of the spin-meisters, but what is there in the gray matter? I would suggest she better enjoy her moment in the sun, as I will bet it is all down from here.

As for raising expectations, that would not take much for me and most of my acquaintances. The given speech was as expected, virtually nothing concrete or of the least detail about what she would do, just a series of sarcastic, half-truths spun by some professional speech writer attempting to pull the opposition down to her level. As near as I can see, she has very little of value to say. Take her speech, and imagine that McCain had not been shot down, but was just another successful bomber pilot. There would not be much left, would there. Apparently having a daughter who was never taught the value of abstaining from premarital, pre-highschool graduation sex is a virtue! Just makes her “one of us”. Sheesh.

What are you talking about!?! You must not have listened either. I recall Palin talking about how dangerous our times are and how our country will be unsafe if anyone but McCan’t is president. Did you not hear that? Oy Vey, if you can’t find anything truthful to say don’t say anything at all.

I’m a white Republican woman who is also a community organizer and last night Sarah Palin lost my vote. How dare she imply that my work on hunger issues in Appalachia is not important. She insulted the wrong people. I’m not only going to vote for Obama now, I’m going to help organize for him. What an insensitive thing to say…no, what a blatantly STUPID thing to say. Community organizers are helping to hold this country together during these tough times.

Hmmm, how well would John and Sarah do without the very community organizers who are working for them.? You can be sure I’m not one of them any more.

Hopefully the polls wont be overpopulated by the illiterate and uneducated people of this country which we have allowed to procreate their lifestyle by giving them welfare and free rides, basically telling what hos now become the majority it’s ok to be a slacker in the USA. Comment by Elias B

Why does everyone thinks that because McCain chose a woman for a running mate, he was trying to appeal to Hillary supporters, why? My take on this is that he could have picked anybody but he was looking for someone who is a conservative that matches his and the Republican Party ideals. I believe John McCain was just trying to keep the Republican voters from voting Democrats. Just think about it, if he had chosen Joe Lieberman, a half of those Republican voters would have jumped ship and go Democrats. If John McCain’s main purpose is to attract Hillary supporters, then his slogan of “Country First” is not appropriate. So, let me say that again, he did not chose Gov. Sarah Palin to attract Hillary supporters, he chose her because she is more conservative than all the other possible VP picks. Let me add that any pair the American voters elect, it will be historic, a first in the country.

I hate to sound patronizing, but the sentence “But he can also sounds a bit patronizing” is grammatically incorrect. “Can also sound” is closer, but you don’t start a sentence with “But”. “But” comes in the middle, usually following a comma, hyphen or semi-colon.

One final point - if this article were about Palin or McCain, surely the word patronizing would be replaced with confident? Am I correct or am I missing something when Fox claim to be fair and balanced?

Even if you will not vote for McCain, you as a woman should be glad that a woman will be in the Whitehouse. I am not bound to agree with every issue from any political party whether Republican, Democrat, Independent, etc. It is our right and duty to bring reform to the government if we do not agree with how it operates. Stop complaining and vote. But at least take the time to look at those who are already in Congress and ask yourself; Are they doing what’s best for me or for themselves? Have they kept their promise to me? Is it business as usual? All parties say they will work together, but when are they actually going to do it? Why are there no people of color at the “white” convention I mean Republican? Is all of America white? I saw three people of color 2 blacks and an Asian out of 20-30,000 people. I think that really says it all. How can you relate to the diversity of America when your party is all white!

This is a party for only one group of American’s. If you don’t need a tan.The “white only party” is not for you? There only one reason that no people of color are represented by the “white party” because they must exclude people of color.

Reminds me of the days of JIM CROW and the “white only signs” that use to be outside of a restaurant.
I guess that what White Christians are about exclusion god only create them!

It is amazing how Republicans can have a woman Vice Presidential candidate and the Democrats think that it is ‘all about them’ for ‘their’ Hillary supporters. Not the first time he lied. Remember several years back when he had indicated he graduated from law school with honors? He was subsequently forced to recant that when it was uncovered that he actually finished near the bottom of his class.

Six months ago Biden was considered to be on the fringe for making radical foreign policy pronouncements. Of course the Democratic media forget this now in their terror at the prospects of election of a VP who won’t toe the “centrist” line that there is no place at the national table for the “defective” & the “unwanted”. They forget that there are no “unwanted” children - if God didn’t want them, he wouldn’t have made them.
