FOX Embeds

Yeah, it Was a Good Speech, But…

Soon after Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin finished her speech Wednesday night, the Obama campaign sent out the following response:

“The speech that Governor Palin gave was well delivered, but it was written by George Bush’s speechwriter and sounds exactly like the same divisive, partisan attacks we’ve heard from George Bush for the last eight years.  If Governor Palin and John McCain want to define ‘change’ as voting with George Bush 90% of the time, that’s their choice, but we don’t think the American people are ready to take a 10% chance on change,” said Bill Burton, Obama Campaign Spokesman.

How dare the speakers ar the RNC make fun of community service! It is a difficult, thankless job that is probably a foreign concept for any of the speakers.

Of course she had help with her speech. It was her first high stakes speech she has ever made. A speech that passionate cannot be given without believing what it says. Who cares if she had help writing it? We accept that the president has speech writers, why is she not also allowed to have them? This speech was not written without her influence and supervision. It was incredibly personal and sincere. Get over the fact that she did not write every word and look at it for what it was, a powerful and moving speech.

Gee, did you know McCain was tortured as a POW? Just in case you missed that tonight.

You know, I’m from a small town. The people are great. Ask any of them if they think the mayor is qualified to be VP and they’ll laugh their asses off.

Since Obama voted in the Senate 98% of the time with the Dems who have managed to do nothing as a majority in Congress, he really doesn’t have an arguement here! Palin was fantastic and I expect she will continue to show up Obama in ways that Hillary Clinton couldn’t because of Clinton being a Dem. McCain has been the total gentleman towards Obama but now he has someone who can take the gloves off. I can’t wait!

Comment by David

Wow, the Democrats have NO idea how to handle Palin. What a tepid and canned response to her speech. I supported Hillary in the primary, and for better or worse take delicious pleasure in seeing Obama’s people squirm and stumble. Obama should have chosen Hillary for VP instead of the “blowhard doofus.”

Comment by Will

So the Obama campaign calls Sarah Palin’s speech the “same divisive, partisan attacks.” However, this very day Biden said that if he and Obama were elected they might pursue criminal charges agianst the Bush administration. Now that’s DIVISIVE and PARTISAN!

Comment by Bill

Wow.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. The truth hurts. I saw the speech. Nobody was bitter or divisive there. Plenty of smiles, happy faces, and waving hands. And something else we haven’t heard in a long time…laughter.

This poor guy, with all the whining, backbiting, and fussing over at the DNC. I guess he would be an expert of sorts about bitterness and divisiveness. All I hear and all I see over on that side is pure, unadulterated bitterness.

I have been a lifelong Democrat and after hearing Sarah Palin’s speech tonight, I am definitely voting for McCain. I do not trust Obama and was seriously considering staying home and not voting but we need to keep Obama and his terrorist/racist friends out of the White House. I did not agree with the way the Democratic Party (now Communist I believe) overrode our votes and made him the nominee. At least Sarah Palin gives us some hope of changing Washington and I really think she will be open to listening to all constituents instead of just along party lines or ones that can do something for her.

Go McCain/Palin…..you just won over one Hillary Clinton voter.

Comment by denise

i could barely watch the speech, as i already knew it was a manufactured one…but not one commentator has spoken about the ISSUES she addressed in her speech….were there any?

enough of the character assassinations…can we please get down to the issues at hand…we are two months shy of an election already…the republicans need to change their strategy…

if country first is your theme and all you do is name call….i’m moving to alaska….THE GOVERNOR SEAT WILL BE OPEN, AND I’M SURE I HAVE THE CREDENTIALS TO FILL THE SPOT!

I think this was the best speech I have heard in a long time by anyone. I heard the Obama spokeperson say that this was not her own words but that the speech was writen by McCains speech writers. Then I challenge this person to take the same speech and get it across the way Palin pulled it off. If they feel this way about the ability of McCain’s speech writers then they should let McCain’s speech writers write all the speeches for them as well. They could have had something a bit less negative to say about this woman who stood up in front of millions of people and said things the American public could understand and sink their teeth into. Give us plain talk.

Its over Obama is finised. Now everyone can see he realy is just a well polished empty suit. He is no match for Palin and much less so for Mccain. They hear everyone talk about how he will ruin the econimy and why and exactly what they will do to make it better and he still ask what about the economy. How can we beleive he can reach across the ilse when he obviously can not even listen. I guess the voice of god tell him how great he is keeps getting in the way. Well tonight he was exposed for exactly what he is a blw hart empty suit with absolutely no accomplishments and no acheivements except to serve his own ego and interest. By the way who do you think writes his speaches? What a dufus.

Comment by Jeff

So the Obama campaign tries to blow off Sarah Palin’s great speech tonight by saying it was written by a Republican speechwriter? So freakin’ what?

Who the heck do they expect us to think writes BO’s speeches… Obama himself? I doubt even they think people are stupid enough to believe that!

I’d like to know if they are trying to say McCain’s 90% vote with Bush is the total for all 8 years of Bush’s presidency, or if not exactly what are they using to get their figure from? I would bet their figure is contrived from some BS record which is really 90% of nothing if you were to look at the facts of where it comes from.

Comment by Dennis Brakhage

I have to say that Gov. Palin and here speech was right on target with what she said….. She has and will shake up Washington with Sen. McCain ……. To all of you whether you are left or right you have to agree that Sen. Obama has done nothing For You….. But McCain and Palin has done plenty…… Don’t be so blind that you can’t see this……. Clinton would have been the better choice or the left wing……….. and The DNC chose Obama…………

Comment by Deb

Can Fox please write something of substance about Palin? What issues did she discuss in her speech tonight? What is her plan for America? Why was her tone so negative and sarcastic when she is basically a nobody? I tuned in to hear where the Republicans stand on the issues & what Palin brings to the table, but instead I felt like I was watching a stand-up comedian MOCK a great American, Barack Obama. It was juvenile and silly.

It’s a shame that we have a VP candidate who mocks community service. We need more people spending their time helping out others in their community, not less. If I were a Republican right now I would be embarrassed and worried about their chances. Gov. Palin seems like a person of energy, but someone who is not able to carry herself with dignity. Why would anyone want to have her message of fear and sarcasm as the voice of their leader? Why would a country proudly say “This is the voice of America”? What was there to aspire to? Vindictiveness?

McCain needed to take a risk, but this one really backfired.

She showed that she is a stronged willed woman, however there are millions just like her so that is nothing too special. The speech writers should have warned her to soften it up.

In my opinion Ms. Palin came off as being snobbish, arrogant, and a bit too hard.

It does not take a woman to be so stinging to be thought of as tough.

Bottom line is that this woman will not get the over 18M (Hillary) women votes and the reason is because the majority of those women do not have the same agenda as Ms. Palin.

Comment by Angie

I thought the speech was great. I was flipping around on the news channels and Tom Brokaw said that essentially, her speech might not get the McCain camp too far because the people would not forget that the Republicans have been in control of Congress and the White House for the last 8 years. Neither Brian Williams nor Keith Oberman bothered to point out to Tom, who should know better, that the Democrats won control of Congress - the House and the Senate Mr. Brokaw - 2 years ago and that they have not done anything in the two years since. This is only the 3rd time I have blogged and I tried to put this on the MSNBC website but I could not find a place to blog or email Tom Brokaw, Keith Oberman, or Brian Williams. Perhaps they ought to make it more user friendly. Thank God for Fox News, you report the news instead of gossiping about it. Andrea Mitchell, Chris Matthews, and even good ole Tom Brokaw and the whole lot of them need to stop calling themselves reporters and MSNBC needs to take the word “news” out of any headlines and TV shows and just replace it with democratic party propaganda. I once admired Tom Brokaw - what happened to him.

Sarah rocked tonight and I hope she continues to do well. I wish her family well too. I hope this helps McCain and that he wins the election. I am not so much a McCain supporter as I am anti- Obama and Biden. I am happy so far with Sarah. She hit a grand slam tonight and her first time at bat. The game isn’t over and she has some more at bats. I wish her the best.

Of everything Palin said in her speech this all Obama’s people could come back with. “Yeah, it was a good speech, but…” I guess Obama would know about good speeches especially since that seems to be all he can deliver.

Comment by Susan

OMG, the Obama campaign is a little out of touch, don’t you think?

Comment by MD Indy

Interesting. Had no idea, but kept thinking this sounded Rovian, so not surprised to learn about the speechwriter. Reminded me of the attack on Ciny McCain in SC in 2000.

Was sure she had not had time to write it. Some good lines but way too biting, acerbic. Honestly it made me feel she was a bit immature, like high school girl who had been dropped by a boyfriend and was going to get even. Is the speechwriter a young kid?

Didn’t tell me much other than she knows how to deliver someone else’s speech.

She spoke so little about herself, why? Not much to talk about?

As an Independent she alienated me, as a woman she embarassed me. Substance, Palin, Substance.

And learn to lower your voice. Yikes? Was tempted to cover my ears at times.

Comment by jburn

“Yeah but…” Personifies the articulation of the Obama campaign on any numbers of issues. I have yet to hear realistic and implementable “change” proposed apart from “unifying, transcending, inspiration” rhetoric full of warm fuzzies and rallying cries without any definition as to what we are rallying for. If the Obama campaign deigns to criticize personality of a candidate they should look no farther than to Obama himself whose entire platform rests upon brilliant manipulative marketing strategies, his personality and oratory genius, and his ridiculous and incoherent celebrity fan club.

Comment by Michele

That’s the problem. The Obama folks “don’t think”. Americans like to hear from REAL people they can relate to. Obama speaks like a politician who will say anything to be elected. He talks down to people, comes across as elite. He proves everyday that his campaign and his surrogates do play dirty , ugly politics and he isn’t about change. Palin spoke to everyday families. Her sister just opened service station, she fishes, hunts, raises her children and has the same problems we do. She is a force I don’t think they understand how to reckon with. She seems real, Obama does not. It’s that simple.

By the way, by now there are usually tons of responses. Nothing being reported by Greta on Fox.

How strange??? Or is it the way FOX decided to do it?

Comment by RepublicanforObama

It was a constructed speech you could tell. It didnt come from her heart or head. I was undecided, but I will now vote for Obama. We do need change. My party let me down. They spent more time belittling Obama than talking about solutions to our current problems.

Comment by AC

I respect Gov Palin and what she has accomplished in her career. However the republicans spent more time taking disrespectful jabs at Obama then they did talking about the issues. It’s ironic that Palin stated that parents with special needs children will have an advocate in the white house if she and McCain is elected. What she is failing to recognize is that it’s always been the democrats that have been advocates to the special needs population and the social programs to assist this population and programs to assist families who struggle including teen pregnancy and the challenges that come with it. She is not like the typical family - she is wealthy and has the resources to assist her daughter and the programs to help her son (thanks to the democrats). Republicans have always fought to cut these programs. My sister has down syndrome and the challenges my mother had in the 70’s when she was born is very different then Gov Palin will have to face. The majority of teens that become pregnant do not have a mother who is govenor. Let’s not be fooled. I wonder how aware she is when discussing cutting government and programs that her son will soon need. Or she may be aware of it now but didn’t recognize it until she had a son with down syndrome. The republicans had their chance over the past 8 years it’s time to hand it over to the democrats to turn the ship around. We often complain about excessive programs but I’m am confident that if individual is placed in an unfortunate situation and need assistance from one of these programs their minds would change.

Palin Speech: Better than Obama’s, She is a new feminist Icon, The Point Guard has set McCain up for a Slam Dunk in November

What a speech by Sarah Palin. In articulating why John McCain represents the best of America, she showed that she also represented the best of our Nation. She is the new feminist icon, the personification of the goal of the feminist movement: A Woman who can have it all-a career, husband and family.

Like the point guard she was, Palin just set up McCain for a Slam Dunk in November. She led a full court press on Biden-Obama ticket and exposed them as having no way to defend against a strong offensive attack. Obama and Biden just got blown out on in a big game on national television.

Two months ago, it seemed Barack Obama would be the person who would make history. But, not anymore. Palin is going to be the woman who breaks the glass ceiling and enters the White House as Vice President. Her speech is going to be the hammer that first actually breaks through the glass. There is no doubt now that John McCain is going to win big.

Palin was able to eviscerate Obama because Obama is such an easy target. AS I have posted before, the Democrats have put Obama in a terrible position. He will not win because he is too inexperienced, too liberal and too much of a risk.

I have always thought McCain would win (ok, since July) but until Palin, I did not see the win being a catalyst to re-ignite the Conservative movment. Palin is picking up the Conservative torch that Hastert and DeLay dropped and she is going to use it to lead the way.

Instead of role models like Britney and Paris, we now have a role model like Palin. Every parent of a young daughter in America will be able to point to her as a wonderful role model. And what is great about Palin, is that she is actually cool.

How many little girls dream about growing up to be Hillary Clinton? A woman who has achieved power through her husband’s career and connections but had to pay the price of a miserable marriage, humiliation, and betrayal?

Sarah has made it on her own. She is someone who little girls across America can point to and say I want to grow up like her and know that it is a happy life. What Sarah also offers is that she is cool. Girls will naturally want to emulate her because of her poise and self confidence.

When she was speaking, I could see the fiery point guard competing to win. When she was speaking I could see the confidence that comes from believing in herself. When I was watching her I saw someone who could handle the job of President of the United States.

How fitting in many ways that it will be Palin and not Hillary Clinton who breaks the glass ceiling. A woman who did it in a way that reflects the character of America–with virtue, honesty and hard work. Not someone, like Hillary, who is there because she felt she is owed it or someone there more on her husband’s merits than her own.

Feminists who supported Hillary were compromising. They would get the end product, but in a way that was the antithesis of feminism. Whereas with Sarah Palin, they will get someone who has made it on her own, living the dream of the feminist movement, an a way that is authentically American.

This speech was superior to Obama’s. Don’t be surprised if she does not start pulling some Obama like crowds.

Some women may disagree with some of her policies, but none will disagree with her character, and all women will see someone who moves the ball forward to equality. Great choice John McCain.

What a great night for Women in America and the Conservative movement in America. Somewhere Ronald Reagan is looking down with a twinkle in his eye smiling because he knows she won one more for the Gipper

Couldn’t disagree more. The message is that McCain and Palin are outsiders the Status Quo and they are going to shake up Washington. She ignored the barbs from the DMC and CNN and came out to deliver a grand slam speech. She won’t be initmidated by the good ole boy network in Washington now rooting for Biden/Obama.

The horrible way you greeted this women the last three days led to her response. She only responded in kind to all the dirt you threw at her. You smug hack-job deserves every shot she took at you.

Good luck Obamites - you have a real team of leaders to fight now, not just the old republican message. By the way - you professional reporters can’t even speak half as cogently as she does. The reportage on this election is just despicable.

The Deomcrats are so stupid. (I was one until recently) In 2000, 2004 and 2008 they have had the White House handed to them on a silver plater only to give it away with arrogance and stupidity. Everytime an issue comes up the Obama campaign picks a reply from the same small pile of sound bites. It is not going to work.

Agreed. That’s about as good as it gets from a washed up beauty queen turned McCain cheer leader that has NOTHING to offer America except a reform in the form of a new national PTA policy. Delivered with a nasal whine, she gave a speech that rallied the GOP geriatric into such a tizzy that the city of St. Paul will suffer its first shortage of Depends since the last episode of The Golden Girls aired. Seriously, can politics look any more white, stiff, old, rich and completely out of touch with the general American working public than this? No. Sure, she’s cute but it’s going to take a lot more than that to bring some youth and vigor…and yes…CHANGE into the Republican party and Washington. For the record, I am not a Democrat…I am an Independent but the Democratic party is looking more attractive to me by the minute if this is the future of the Republican party.

Obama is still trying to connect McCain/Palin with president Bush, who I might add has won 2 pres. elections. Obama talks about partisan attacks but then he has engaged in partisan attacks on them as well. This is American politics, if it gets too hot, get out of the kitchen!
The drift I get from this is that the democrats (socialists) are scared and desperatlt grasping at straws…………….just a thought

Sad to hear nothing in Palin’s speech but trashing of the other side, and not a single policy issue addressed. Is this what my country is about?

Comment by Randy Conley

How laughably rediculous! How is it relevant who wrote the speech? The fact is that Governor Palin’s executive experience far exceeds that of Senator Obama and her nomination as Republican VP has energized the Republican Party beyond belief and the Democrats are running scared.

Comment by William Zimmerman

Tonight’s Republican’s convention was shameful. This level of personal attack and sophomoric swipes lower the level of civil discourse in America, at a time when we need to improve it. Tonight made me ashamed to be an American, if this is what we have become. Booing our opponents, laughing at the other party, it was simply shameful. If our leaders cannot find a way to move away from the politics of fear and ridicule, our future is as dim as the Roman’s fall was certain. The Democrats could not have asked for a better gift than the “show” that was tonight’s convention by the Republicans.

It’s sooooo funny how the Obama campaign can only compare the speech to Bush. Is it sort of odd that they can’t find ANYTHING to criticize about the speech or the candidate behind the speech or maybe even refute anything she said about them to persuade us that she wasn’t speaking truth? My My My… That was one of the best “hit you where it hurts” speeches I have heard in a long time. WAY TO GO!!! The Truth does Hurt sometimes!

I don’t agree at all with your socialist views that want to change the country I grew up in. It’s socialist views similer to yours that did change our country forever when in the sixties these same liberals your part of took prayer out of our schools and now there the kids have to worry about guns more than gum under the desk. I don’t think we want your kind of change again. Sorry, what will it be this time instead of taking prayer out of schools will it be shutting down our churches or stopping us from praying over our meal at lunch. I see in polls that you only lead in polls among christians by the Easter Sunday type. Maybe it’s because they relate to you so much. Regular worshippers see right through that. Real spirituality can’t be faked.

The Dems are running scared… The GOP ticket couldn’t be further away from the Bush folks within the party… This is as close to an independent ticket as you could get (especially this time around)!
