Delegate Diaries: Republican Convention

Staying at Home

Gregg Harper, Mississippi Delegate

On behalf of the Mississippi delegation, let me say that we are all very concerned about the safety and well-being of the citizens of our state. I will remain in Mississippi and my staff and I will be in close contact with Mississippi’s elected officials and community leaders to be sure that all pertinent resources and assistance are available to the areas affected by Hurricane Gustav.

On Friday, August 26, 2005 GOV. Kathleen Blanco declares a “State of Emergency” for Louisiana. It was Tuesday, August 31, when Bush said he would “fly to Washington to begin work…with a task force that will coordinate the work of 14 federal agencies involved in the relief effort.”

So really, with that time frame in mind, the only reason he is missing the convention is his %27 job approval rating, and John Mccain’s request.

Simple, he’s doing what he was elected to do, He shouldn’t be criticized for being there in his state during a state of emergency. end of discussion!
