Obama Camp Plays Good Cop/Bad Cop
Before the Obama campaign sent out a statement on behalf of the Democratic ticket congratulating McCain’s new running mate — before they described the Alaska governor as “admirable” — and before they called the announcement “yet another encouraging sign that old barriers are falling in our politics,” the Obama campaign struck the first blow on the new Republican candidate.
More than an hour prior to laudatory statements, Obama spokesman Bill Burton implied the little known 44-year-old governor with less than two years in office was not qualified to be president and tied her to the Bush/McCain brand of politics. “Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain’s commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush’s failed economic policies — that’s not the change we need, it’s just more of the same,” Burton said in the statement.
Later at a campaign stop in Pennsylvania, Obama was asked about the dual sentiments. “I think that campaigns start getting these hair triggers, and the statement that Joe and I put out reflects our sentiments,” he explained.
The candidate proceeded to call her a “compelling person” and complimented her for hitting up against “that glass ceiling” - the same one Hillary Clinton attempted to shatter - but said, “I’m sure that she will help make the case for the Republicans. Unfortunately, the case is more of the same. And so ultimately John McCain is at top of ticket…I think that he wants to take the country in the wrong direction. I’m assuming Gov. Palin agrees with him in in his policies.”
Biden, who had been standing beside Obama, piped up, “I’m looking forward to meeting her.”

She may have only been a Gov for a year and a half but she was the Mayor of Wasilla (pop. 8000) before that….Well, at least she could teach McCain how to use a computer, I guess.
Hope we get to see who has more experience at the VP debate.
Brilliant move on McCain’s part. The more the discussion revolves around experience/inexperience, the more people will think about and compare McCain’s to Obama’s… and now OBAMA’s campaign is bringing up the experience issue! People vote for the Presidential candidate, not the VP… and this discussion can only help McCain. Not to mention the ready made response that she has nearly as much public office experience as Obama… and has accomplished much more in a shorter time.
McCain sealed his fate with this one. Obama will be the next president for sure.
obama is just mad that joe biden is just an old politican with no new ideas, john mccain has a woman with a brain on his ticket and john will win this election because he knows the right choices that will make our america, all the better, than obama and his plans that will destroy america,
Palin is an excellent choice & it takes pure unmitigated gall for the Dems to argue she is a bad choice because she is a heartbeat from the presidency and has limited foreign policy experience. Obama has absolutely none and he is running for president. Who would you rather have as president? The choice is actually Obama and Biden (2 lawyers with no executive experience) or McCain & Palin? Funny, when you really look at the two pairs the Dems don’t look so good.
I have always loved the William F. Buckley quote “I’d rather entrust the government of the United States to the first 400 people listed in the Boston telephone directory than to the faculty of Harvard University.”
What is McCain thinking? I am sure Sarah is a Good Gov. but isn’t she younger, with less experience than Obama? Do we want her as the President of the United States if McCain can’t do it?
I know John is working the female vote, etc. but won’t most Americans see this as nothing other than pure despiration?
YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST FOLKS, FOXNEWS, WE AREN’T BIASED AT ALL. LOL.
I almost have to cringe thinking about the debate between Palin and Biden. This woman is being investigated for ethics violations, is on video not long ago asking a reporter what the vice president actually does, and whose only experience is being mayor of a town 1/20th the size of Obama’s congressional district along with governing a state that is smaller than most mainland cities. Biden is going to destroy her. Not to mention the fact that if McCain brings up “experience” ever again for the rest of his natural life, he will be hounded into the ground for his Palin pick. So, the score is +1 McCain for shock value pick, -100 McCain for a pick that undercuts his entire political argument. I really do feel bad for him, I’ve always had a soft spot for the man…
The Democrats essentially gave the experienced candidate the VP slot and the guy in need of on the job training the top job. She will do fine in the least effective job in politics.
I’m sure they are doing some hair pulling about this. They can’t drone on about he lack of experience as she has more than Obama. In fact she has executive experience and Obama has none.
She got into office and attacked corruption. Obama got in office and made shady real estate deals with convicted felon buddy Tony Rezko, and his wife used his new position to get a 400% raise.
I honestly can’t say I love the choice, but it highlights the just how poor Obama’s qualifications really are.
On the other hand, its nice to see McCain return to his maverick roots which seemed to be disappearing so he could win the nomination.
I guess he’s back.
Golly, obama chose someone who represents old-school Washington “same-as-usual” politics and has an incredible amount of ethical baggage as his running mate (although I’m sure the obama supporters will overlook these ethical lapses since they seem to be so out of touch with reality, anyway). By choosing Palin, Senator McCain has proved he is the REAL candidate for “change”. barak only aspires to be.
shocking choice, particularly since the experience aspect was Senator McCain’s strongest arguement to attract undecided voters. The little voice in me is thinking that the party has already given up on this election & is simply posturing for the next few- though this seems more a result of a lack of a strong republican candidate. Tom Ridge or Condi Rice as a running mate would have made it a closer contest. Now, I’m afraid, its over, the extremely popular, charasmatic, & apparently capable Senator Obama is most likely unstoppable.
I went home at lunch to watch the nomination of Sarah Palin during lunch. I was very impressed and watching her come out on stage made me emotional. I’m not surprised the Democrats immediately came out negative and made more snarky comments. They seem to have one mode - doom and gloom, angry and cynical. Obama is an impressive speaker, but my first thought this morning was that he’s a hypocrit. He says “more of the same” about McCain when he’s the most liberal democrat in the Senate - when he chooses not to vote “present”. He is a great orator - much better then Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, more along the lines of MLK. I congratulate him on his nomination and pray he doesn’t win the general election.
Maybe the democrats are just a little afraid that another woman is knocking at their door. I do not know much about this lady, but I think it takes a lot of person to take on Alaska and its difficult enviorment.
I think this lady has a tough skin, and I look forward to her campaign against Obama and Biden.
Good luck Governor Palin. I’ll be voting for you an John McCain in November.
From a Vietman Vet! Go Republicans
It’s important to note that the McCain camp jumps just as quickly from Jekyll to Hyde.
Last night’s McCain tv ad congratulating Obama and acknowledging his historical achievement said “Tomorrow we’ll be back at it. But tonight, Senator: Job well done.” And yet, the night was done, McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds had released a disdainful, six-page-long attack on the top “Misleading Claims” in Obama’s address.
This is the depressing reality of modern campaigns, on the right and the left.
Binden is going to eat her alive on so many issues when they debate. The first being, what is it a VP does. Apparently, she does not know what the job entails. Lovely, and she is just a heart beat away from being President. I do not think so. I also believe that there are few HC supporters who would go down that road. This is a token candidate only. Don’t believe we can endure with four years of McCain and hope HC can pull it off in 2012. Don’t believe you have to vote for a woman candidate just because she has been put forth. She can’t go from Mayor of 9000 to Gov. for a short time and then be a heart beat away from the Presidency. Don’t believe we are being respected by McCain with this choice just because he picked a woman. He is bull headed enough, just like Bush, to think we will not see the forest through the trees. Binden is going to teach her plenty come the VP debate.
I AM DELIGHTED WITH THE CHOICE. HOWEVER, MAKE SURE SHE EXPLAINS WHO WILL HELP HER WITH HER BABY. I WORK FOR A FORD DEALERSHIP AND MOST OF THE SALESFORCE LOVED THE IDEA OF HER AS A VICE PRESIDENT BUT QUESTIONED THE TIMING OF HAVING AN INFANT WITH SPECIAL NEEDS AND THE EXTRA TIME NEEDED TO CARE FOR HIM. AND, MOST OF THESE ARE GUYS. THEY ALSO LOVED THE FACT THAT SHE IS “HOT” AND THEY LOVE HER LEGS!! ALSO, PLEASE MAKE IT CRYSTAL CLEAR WHEN YOU EXPLAIN TO THE PUBLIC THAT WHAT THE DEMOCRATES SAY ABOUT TAXING THE RICH REALLY MEANS TAXING THE SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS. I KNOW IT HAS BEEN SAID A MILLION TIMES, BUT PEOPLE STILL DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT IT MEANS. COULDN’T YOU SHARE NUMBERS OF THE RICH THAT THEY WANT TO TAX JUST HOW MANY ARE INDIVIDUALS AND HOW MANY ARE SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS? GOOD LUCK TO ALL INVOLVED. I WILL SOON GET MY YARD SIGN AND WORK IN THE MCCAIN HEADQUARTERS ANSWERING PHONES.
I think it’s important to note that the McCain camp can switch just as quickly from Jekyll to Hyde.
Last night’s McCain ad congratulating Sen. Obama on his historic nomination said “Tomorrow, we’ll be back at it. But tonight, Senator: Job well done.” And yet, before the night was done, McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds had issued a scathing, dismissive, six-page-long statement criticizing the acceptance speech and its top “Misleading Claims.”
This is the two-faced reality of modern political campaigns. I would personally love to see more of the gracious sportsman and less of the brawler from both sides.
After all the McCain hype about experience he puts a woman a heart beat away from the Presidency who not only doesn’t know anything about foreign affairs she doesn’t want to. To think that we women would vote based on gender alone is both callous and cynical. I voted for Hillary because of her values and her policies and I knew was qualified. This woman represents everything I hate about the Republican Party. I suppose there some women who will vote for someone who wants to outlaw abortion across the board but not the Hillary voters and it is disgusting to realize he thinks so little of women that he would think we would not look or experience. I am beyond fury.
[...] Obama Camp Plays Good Cop/Bad Cop [...]
Pot calling the kettle black. Since Obama has very little experience why is he running for President! At least Palin was a mayor and is now a govenor. Seems to me she has more experience than Obama could ever have. His experience, Senator for Illinois for a short time, community activist, friends and associate of questionable people, Rezko, Wright, Phleger, Ayers, great resume! His popularity during his Berlin speech was only because of the concert held before his speech which I might add the media did not mention at all. This is called bias by omission. I have been a democrat for 38 years and voted for Hillary, I will now vote REPUBLICAN! Where were the DNC’s brains when they dissed Hillary, she would have been a great president. She has all the qualities needed for the job. The DNC and media caused America to loose the best possible choice. But we still have McCain and Palin who will make a great team. Both have the experience and intelligence needed for this position. Congratulations to Palin. McCain made the right choice.
Palin is a good pick for McCain for VP. She has a good record for her short time as Governor. I am amused that the Obama camp would declare that she is too inexperienced for the job. It seems to me that she has more experience than the Dems pick for president.
It’s only obvious mcCain picked a dainty little woman who will not fight back with him on tough military and foreign affairs. She absolutely doesn’t know anything about military affairs, and very little about anything else. She’s been in congress only two years, how much could she know? He selected her to strickly fight against ROE v WADE. and nothing else. McCane needs all those rightous religious voters. During a military argument, what could she say?
With her on the ticket, we’ve got four more years of George W. Bush., AND, I couldn’t think of a worser thing in the world that we could have.

I cannot wait for the Veep debates!!!
I was reading the headline for a political article and something interesting jumped out at me.
n La n La n La n La Obama-Bi (n) (La) den That is some scary stuff! Do we really have a Major Party ticket running to Lead the Free World, whose names when placed together, look like Osama Bin Laden…….WOW!!!
The thought also occurred to me:
Obama-Biden = O.B. = Outta Bounds
McCain-Palin = M.P. = Military Police
You heard it here first!!
What a goofy title for this article. Anyone who believes Fox News is anything but a shill for right-wingers obviously needs his or her head examined. But anyways, this lady doesn’t even believe in making BIRTH CONTROL PILLS available. Also ZERO foreign policy experience. Does anyone else think that this is a horrible choice, or am I alone here?
It seems like they’re desperate to pander to both the ultra-conservative “issue” voters, and former Hillary voters. Besides, McCain barely knows the woman.
Awesome choice John McCain. Apparently being married to a successful business woman, you are not afraid of strong women.
The snarky responses by the Obama team are from their jealousy. How funny they have the audacity to complain your VP choice is inexperienced. Unlike their Presidential choice, Ms. Palin is in position to become very experienced. Their Presidential choice must lean on others so their reaction is expected.
No surprise they would do the “good cop/bad cop” thing. Gotta keep the baby’s hands clean you know. He’s just as petty, thin skinned and snarky as the rest of them.
I’m proud of John. I’m was a Democrat but changed my party at http://www.rockthevote.com and I am glad I did.
The two Mavericks will be Terrific!!!
The Republicians have just slamed the door shut on Obama and Biden, two Senators
that can never make up their mind about anything. As obama said, they revise their
thoughts.
Not that I ever see any comments on this blog, so I suspect this is just going into a black hole, but…
The choice of Palin completely undercuts McCain’s main argument, that Obama is “dangerously inexperienced” to be President. By far, the most important qualification of the VP should be someone who would be able to assume the Presidency (and, let’s face it, although McCain’s in good health now, he is in his seventies, and his future health is a realistic concern). How can he possibly believe Obama is too inexperienced when he choses an even less experienced replacement for himself?
I understand that the conservative base will love her, and I’m an Obama supporter myself, so obviously this choice doesn’t affect my vote, but for those that are still listing to the arguments and trying to decide – I’ve got to believe this looks pretty hypocritical.
What is the story behind the ABC reporter being grabbed by the neck in Denver ‘for being on a ‘private sidewalk’? He was pursuing a report on ‘BIG’ lobby money meeting with democratic candidates & staff ??? He was pushed in the street, then grabbed by the neck and arrested for what??
WHEN THIS COMES OUT COMPLETLY- WE WILL HAVE A VERY DIFFERENT VIEW OF DEMOCRATIC PARTY OPEWRATIONS !! WAIT AND SEE…. ASK FOR ANSWERS…NOW.
The cLINTONS were staying at the hotel, that called, complained, and asked for the action……………. Who else was present?
For a “democratic” party there sure are a lot of ’secret’ things going on………..
Lets find out before it’s too late.
It is funny Nobama attacks her experience when she has more than twice the experience that he does. What a piece of work he is.
I did not know Gov Palin before today, but she made quite an impression on me. She was articulate, lives the values that are important to me, such as integrity, ethical behavior, and holding people accountable for their actions. She appeared confident and not overwhelmed in the historic nature of the moment. I admire her demonstrated success in carrying out the duties of each office she has held while still holding her family as the most important. I have no doubt she will continue to follow her values to carry out the responsibilities as Vice President. I look forward to seeing her break that glass ceiling and leading our great nation to even greater heights. I think Senator McCain scored a hat-trick and made a buzzer-beating, game-winning 3 pointer all in one!
John McCain is a patriot, and yet candidate McCain is a mutation aligning himself with corrupt lobbyist, and apparently to win at any cost. Yet, such a selection of Palin is self defeating. So, I posit that John McCain loves the Country so much that he knows the same bunch should not be returned to power. He may be doing the wrong thing for the right reasons. That’s real class. Thanks John!

I love this one Larry
Sarah Palin has been the chief executive of a city government. Obama has been chief executive of ???
Sarah Palin has been chief executive of a state government. Obama has been chief executive of ???
So Sarah has run both a city and a state. Obama has run ???
Sarah Palin was an elected official for 5 years before Obama was elected in Illinois.
If Sarah Palin is inexperienced, what does that make Obama?
to you Kathleen
Don’t worry Kathleen ; Biden would like to eat Palin alive , but that is just good for thought
because he does, Palin will become a big lump in his throat.
I take offense on the snide small town remark. Shame on the Obama campaign. You would think that they would have learned from the primary that small town voters can make a difference. I have just found a new role model. Mrs. Palin, you go girlfriend!!!
SARAH PALIN IS MORE THAN JUST ANOTHER STATE GOVERNOR.
She shook up Alaska to its roots.
McCain has made a bold and telling move selecting someone with Chief Executive experience – the only one to have any - of the four running for the White House.

Wow, Great choice John McCain, you have my vote!
Palin is the ideal GOP candidate for 1992 - a creationist, anti-birth control big energy republican. Great. Now however, we really need peaple in Washington that believe in evolution and have spent time in the urban sprawl that the vast majority of Americans share. I used to live in AK, it was fabulous, but it is a different country, and a very poor training ground for the problems most Americans face.
Great call for McCain! If the Democrats win in November, God forbid, then the smart people who voted for them will not have voted for Obama. Their vote will have been for Biden. He’s the real brains in the partnership. Come to think of it, Biden should be the guy at the top of the ticket. And Obama should be Uh…uh…uh…uh…. Sound familiar? NO place for
“Uh”Bama!
I liked what Mike Huckabee had to say in regards to Obama’s nominating speech at the DNC.
“If 10% of what he promised comes to pass, our treasury will be bankrupt and our future mortgaged on the biggest expansion of the federal government since World War II.”
You posters referring to her being against birth control need to do some fact checking. She is anti abortion but pro birth control.
John McCain, GREAT CHOICE FOR VP!
They are flip-floppers they dont know where they stand! they are sexist facious pigs they think they will do to Palin what they did to Hillary!
However Palin is a strong principled honorable women with integrity and sucessful accomplishements! She has more experience than the top of the dems ticket!
Women stand up to the sexism of obama and his cronies! they try to deminish and demean this very powerful accomplished women!
John McCain not only hit one out of the stadium and into the parking lot, he put one through Obama’s windshield. Palin as his VP choice not only firms up his base, it puts the DNC on the defensive. They were ready to attack the Republicans as the “white party”, actually the party of old white men. Now the DNC has identity politics working against them. Gov. Palin has the hockey mom, sportsmen, reformer, conservative, values, smaller government, domestic energy supply vote in play. Debate with Biden? Fugetaboutit! Gov. Palin is a frontier women, where men are still real men. She looks at Obama and Biden and thinks of the same descriptor that America and America’s adversaries think: wuss!
Way to go John! You backed Obama into the corner. Now work the body! Don’t let him out. Don’t let him breathe!
Obama camp questioning Palin readiness? lmao She has more experience with 13 plus years serving the public unlike Obama who has been a community org and a senator which he only been in 144 days before running for president. she has no lobbyists attachments like Biden. His son Hunter, who is a lobbyist for two of those big “bad” drug companies. Who also had been involved as a consult for the credit card companies who made it harder to file bankruptcy as Biden pushed the bill for him. Palin and McCain have no ties to the wasteful spending “earmarks” like Biden & Obama.
Comment by Laughing,
I almost have to cringe thinking about the debate between Palin and Biden. This woman is being investigated for ethics violations
____________________________________________________________
Much better than Biden who pushed bills through for his son who made 1.2 million in this year already who is being sued by people for stealing money. Biden ,Who lied about his first wife and daughter accident to gain sympathy and destroyed the family of the man who hit them, who is connected big time to special interest, who was caught stealing other people speeches, yep A “uh”bama follower for sure….
Yes Palin is the one that invited the investigation for it is the corrupt politicians who want her out because she has been going after them and wasteful spending.
As the candidate for change Obama brings in a 30+ yrs Washington insider. As wanting to reform politics Obama brings in someone who has special interest attachments and lobbyists as family.
obama promises all kinds of things college for all, more welfare, more health care, more taxes on companies who give us jobs, more talking to the terrorist (we see where that got us),more control on our individual rights, more cuts to our missile defense, more taxes for the upper class ( that mainly pays for everything now), tax cuts to 95% of Americans, and so on….
So how does he plan paying for it all? with companies going overseas because of taxes now, millionaires like Madonna who live overseas so they don’t have to pay our taxes.. If you think for one minute he will not tax all of us look up his voting record.
Obama voted for raising taxes across the board (go look up his voting record).
Let me add everyone is attacking her experience? She has more than Obama and no shady inside deals unlike both Obama and Biden. No connections like Ayers,Wright,Moss, anti America groups, racists people,Rezko, questionable ties to terrorists, lobbyists, insiders, that is just a few things.
Obama cares about us the people? He is at a campaign stop and didn’t even bother to say the people on the coast are in our thoughts that should have been one of the first things he mentioned. he says he has his “staff” keeping him inform. Don’t know if at the end he mentioned it I turned it off more of the same bull he has been saying.McCain mentioned it and mentioned it first. Well thanks but no thanks “Uh”bama, take your fake butt back to Chicago dirty politics. He is as fake as his birth certificate.
It is hard for me to believe that anyone can want McCain’s VP Pulin to be the Commandeering chief of the United States of America. Even top Republican are gagging on this pick

I thought it would be interesting to see if age should be a factor in the campaign.
Excluding the last 2 presidents(Bush, Clinton Both age 62) and Kennedy (46 when assasinated)
The next 10 Presidents lived an average of 82.2 years young. With 2 of them still living (Bush 1, Carter both 84 and counting. Take out Roosevelt and Lyndon B. and the average pushes 87 yrs young. With todays medicine and level of care for elected officials, McCain could be president for 4 full terms before he will need to slow down.
