McCain chooses Palin for ticket

DAYTON, OH– Injecting a new twist into the presidential race, John McCain on Friday introduced Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his vice presidential running mate at a rally that also celebrated the Republican presidential candidate’s 72nd birthday.

“My friends and fellow Americans, I am very pleased and very privileged to introduce to you the next vice president of the United States, Governor Sarah Palin of the great state of Alaska,” McCain told a capacity crowd of 12,000 at the Nutter Center.

Describing Palin as someone with “grit and integrity and devotion to the common good that is exactly what we need in Washington today,” McCain said Palin “knows where she comes from and she knows who she works for. She stands up for what is right and she doesn’t tell anyone to sit down. She’s fought oil companies and party bosses and do-nothing bureaucrats and anyone who puts their interests before the people they serve.”

Palin, 44, brings to the Republican ticket a resume that challenges conventional wisdom while also playing into the party’s conservative base. A former beauty queen, the Alaska governor is, among other things, a mother of five, abortion opponent, union member, hockey player and moose hunter. She is said to be a reformer who takes pride in standing up to the “good ole’ boy network” and has served as the top ethics watchdog in her state.

“I would be honored to serve next to the next president of the United States,” Palin said after joining McCain, his wife Cindy and daughter Meghan on stage. “To be chosen is a great challenge. I know that it will demand everything I have to give and I promise nothing less.”

The choice of a woman running mate comes during the week of the 88th anniversary of women earning the right to vote. Palin noted that she was following in the footsteps of former New York Rep. Geraldine Ferraro, who was Walter Mondale’s running mate in 1984, and New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, who Palin noted in her historic presidential bid this year had made “18 million cracks” in the glass ceiling.

“It turns out that women in America aren’t finished yet and we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all,” she said to rousing applause.

You go McCain, excelent choice. I prayed from the first you would pick her. She is concervitive, knows how to bring an ecconomy into balance, and she is intellegent, honest and best of all a woman with a strong will. She has it all including the fact she is a woman. So far you are keeping your promises to all of us and by picking a woman for the next highest post in the government we see you maean what you say unlike Obama who says one thing then votes another.

I’m THRILLED and even more excited about McCain as President. I do find it amusing that liberals are saying anything about lack of experience with Sarah Palin. “She doesn’t have much experience and will be a heartbeat away from the presidency.” But yet, Obama wants us to vote for him- and he’d BE the heartbeat of the presidency. He is VERY inexperienced and NOT right for the leader of this great country. I don’t think it’s a WISE argument for them. However, he’s made many poor decisions that I don’t feel are right for the highest job in the United States. Voting for McCain/Palin in November- if you hadn’t guessed.

Sarah Palin has all the right stuff that completes this ticket and appeals to the widest array of voter concerns and issues that cross party lines. What’s more, she has made fantastic accomplishments in a short time in areas key to this election. She ensures that McCain will exceed what many think the Democrats had surely accomplished with the Obama/Biden ticket.

My goodness Y’ll!
I am sure that Palin is an intelligent woman, but for heavens sake, folks, she is the mother of 5. One of them is a newborn. I sure hope I don’t hear her talk about “family values”.
Who is talking care of those precious children? Are they “latch-key” kids?
Maybe she would be great in a bout 20 years when the last child is grown. I have 4 children myself (my youngest daughter is a 2nd LT in the US Army), and I know for myself, I will never not be a mother.
Hope she stays in Alaska!!

I am so proud to be an American. I am thrilled with the decision John McCain made, choosing Sara Palin and a canidate for Vice President. There is no doubt in my mind that Palin can handle what ever comes her direction including the Presidency. She is a dynamic individual with years of experience! Thank-you Sara Palin!

As a retired US Naval Officer that served in Vietnam, and had the honor to have women Officers working for me at a large ship repair station I can’t remember the last time I felt as excited and happy about a decision a politician made. This proves McCain can make crucial decisions when he has to.

McCain is a 72 year old whose greatest attributes are experience and judgment. If anything should happen to him he thinks the next Command and Chief should be the Mayor of Wasilla. So much for experience being a factor. There is one more reason to question his judgment.

I am really excited that Senator McCain chose Governor as his running mate. I was really surprised how proud I felt when she marched out onto the stage with her family. I remembered that women got the vote in my mother’s generation, and that the occupational choices open to me without a struggle were secretary, teacher or nurse. I think she has what it takes; she is not just a woman, but also a viable candidate.

I especially appreciated that Governor Palin honored Geraldine Feraro for being the first woman to have been nominated to the national ticket of a major party, and also Hilliary Clinton for waging such a strong campaign. It was almost delicious that she pointed out that Hillary had made “18 million cracks in the highest, hardest glass ceiling in the world” and that women aren’t through yet.

I was disappointed and angered that Senator Obama, for all of his lip service to future opportunities for women, particularly his daughters, permitted his campaign to diminish Governor Palin’s accomplishments, stating that she was the former governor of a small city in Alaska and a snow mobiler. He failed to mention that she is the sitting Governor of one of the 50 United State, and not a snow mobiler, but the four time winner of the Iditerod, a 2,000 mile dogsled race across Alaska in the winter. I always knew him to be expert at the partial truth, but this lie of omission was unconscionable. There were no congratulations for her nomination as the first woman on the national ticket of the Republican party, no moment of respect such as the one afforded to him Thursday by his opponent, Senator McCain.

The Obama camp must be in a frenzy. McCain selected a woman who is much better looking than Michelle and she is a better basketball player than Obama. What a pick President McCain.

Anyone considering voting for the McCain/Palin ticket should keep in mind that John McCain, age 72 as of today, has between a 1 in 6 and a 1 in 7 chance of dying in office (according to the National Vital Statistics Report: United States Life Tables, Nov. 10, 2004).

That means if McCain is elected, we would have a 1 in 6 chance that a governor from the least populous state in the nation, who has been in office less than 2 years, and whose previous big accomplishment was running a town of fewer than 9,000 would become President of the United States.

I find that very scary indeed.

That John McCain would have the poor judgment to expose the country to that risk I find inexcusable.

With so many talented, experienced, capable women in the Republican party why choose someone who is none of the above?

Comment by Tom

I’m not sure what glass ceiling she’s talking about. certainly not the one that Hillary put 18 million cracks in. I’m sure that in a few days it’s going to finally sink in that this is all a joke. Enjoy your 60 days in the spotlight Miss Alaska almost!

John McCain is truly worried about having someone as inexperienced as Obama as president. To prevent this from ever happening in his own administration, he has selected for his VP…. a person with less than 2 years of gubernatorial experience.

Comment by kreuzer33

Very interesting choice. McCain can no longer go after Obama’s youth and inexperience, that’s for sure.

It’s over.

This McCain decision clinched it for the Democrats.

I lived in Alaska for 5 1/2 years. Sarah Palin is a wonderful person. She has a heart of gold. She is tough, bright and capable. She shook up the good ole boy network of Republicans in one of the most corrupt state legislatures anywhere.
She stood up to Big Oil. Great stuff!

But–just a short time ago–her only political experience was with the PTA, the city council and two terms as city mayor/manager of Wasilla (population 6,500).

She has only been acting governor of Alaska (population 670,000) for a year and a half!

Truthfully, is this a person ready to be a heart beat away from the Presidency with a man who is the oldest non-incombent running for President at age 72?

If McCain lasts a full term, it might not matter, but if he doesn’t???

Comment by katharine

Everything McCain does in a reactive ploy and a gimmick. For a 72 year old presidential candidate to choose a running mate with less than 2 years experience at the State level and NO experience at the national level is remarkably poor judgment. Smacks of desperation. McCain is out of his league.

Comment by Ted

Very smart Senator McCain…..smart, charismatic, young, dynamic speaker, outside of the Washington cesspool, conservative (socially & fiscally), a “regular” person…….very smart…..very smart!

Now I can be enthusiastic!

Comment by Sharyn Sbragia

I think Palin was an excellent choice. The reaction of the Obama campaign was nothing short of hilarious. They questioned the validity of choosing a candidate for the 2nd spot on the ticket who has soooo little experience. Really! Let’s face it, she has more actual experience than Obama, she’s governed a state while continuing to raise a large family and she did it all in high heels! I challenge Obama or Biden to top that!

Comment by Jeff

Wow, It looks little John will be doing most of the thinking during this presidency.

Thank you! Well done! She’s a conservative winner and most of all not Hillary, not a rabid partisan senator from Delaware and not an appeaser whose made it among libs because of his color.

I’m confused…

Sarah Palin:
-Former beauty queen

McCain’s first wife:
-Former beauty queen

McCain’s second wife:
-Almost 20 years his junior

Hmm, still confused.

Obama lacks judgement and experience to lead?

Sarah Palin was a beauty queen, city council person and mayor for a city not much bigger than my high school and first term gov (only a year and a half) of a sparsely populated state - 700,000 compared to Obama’s home state of Illinois - 12,000,000.

Oh did I mention she has a BA from Idaho for Journalism vs Obama’s Harvard Law degree? Michelle Obama would be more experienced than Sarah Palin.

McCain has lost his mine!

Comment by Chyrl from Ohio

McCain chose an excellent running mate. She is middle class America because she lives middle class America. As a mother of four daughters, she is a true inspiration being to do it all. And what a man she has married to support her. Maverick and Annie Oakley are taking America back!

Comment by Leigh

How could McCain select Palin–totally insulting to women. There are a dozen more experienced Republican women he could have chosen, not swaying my vote for Obama, but how could anyone feel comfortable thinking Palin could become President, let alone McCain? A vote for McCain and the totally unqualified Palin is dangerous and in fact irresponsible.

Thank you John McCain. This is an excellent choice. I had tears in my eyes when I heard our vice presidential pick. Once again, you show the courage of your convictions. You are a true maverick. You do what is right and not what is always popular. Thank you for making me believe in politicians who really want to enlist real change in Washington. You not only talk the talk–you walk the walk!!!I trust John McCain to be my Commander of Chief. He will always put the country first!

I guess experience of 1.5 years as governor of a state which has a population less than that of most cities and being a mayor of a town with less than 10,000 people is what this country needs. Yeah right. Romney and Pawlenty didn’t want to end their political careers by running on a losing ticket. McCain sealed his fate with this awful choice.

Comment by Beltway Greg

This has got to be a joke but it isn’t April Fool’s Day. I mean not disrespect towards Gov. Palin but we need to get real here. This woman is no Kay Bailey Hutchinson and shouldn’t have been chosen. McCain almost finished at the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy and with a choice like this it obvious why.

1. Alaska is a very small state.
2. She isn’t going to get any of the disgruntled Hillary supporters.
3. Alaska is all right and basically all white. Forget the minority vote.
4. She has no experience at the national level.
I could go on.

Can you say President Obama?
Get used to it.

what a refreashing pick by McCain…a outsider to the same old same old in washington…a woman who made her way on her own…she did not have someone help her get into office…she was a mother who was on the p.t.o.and worked her way up to become the govener of alaska…and all on her own with a real message…”REFORM” even against her own party as well as big oil…she is grounded with 5 children who came from a mother and father who worked in the school system…her husband is a blue callor union worker, who rides snow machines and is the 2007 winner…sarah is a refreshing new face that has a son going to traq,a child with downs syndrome, and runs a state…none of the other canidates can say that they run a state…when obama was a community leader she was an elected mayor that also was in charge of energy commision…it is a great time in america, for woman no matter what affiliation or non affiliation…it’s a shame that obama did not siexe the moment by sellecting hillery that had 18 million plus voters…she was dissed by obama, what a big mistake…as a republican i would rather have seen hillery put on the ticket either on the top or as v.p….the dems blew it big time…God bless america….amen…:)

It is always a delight to see John McCain speaking to the nation !!! Today’s performance at Dayton is a milestone decision in picking a great red hot Ameican young lady with a brilliant record of her service to the Nation. Ideed, I was highly impressed with her personality, confidenc and youthfulness. She, indeed, deserve my highest appreciation for having said some of the facts relating to the contribution heMcCain has made over the years. John is certainly the one who deserves to be in the White House at leas for one term, whichhe himself has said. I will be privileged to vote for him and his running mate. Of course, this decision of McCain has given a real person to lead this great nation after his term expires after four years of his election. My wife too is commited to vote for this duo. This honour we got for the first time as we have got naturalisd recently. It is not only my wish that they should come out in the flying colors; but also I am prayerful to the Almighty Lord to concede my prayer. With our blessings to them !!!

Hillary drew 18 million people to her not because of her gender but a record of public service as well as her status as former first lady of a popular President. It is for the same reasons that Hillary is now the NYS Senator. Above all, she is a very smart person. It is an insult to my intelligence for McCain to believe that he can now have my vote because he has a woman as a running mate. By miles, Palin is NOT Clinton and she will never be. What was wrong with Mike Hukabee or Mitt Romney? Two fine seasoned gentlemen who ran clean primary campaigns. It is an insult to them as well. I was undecided up this point, but I have now made my mind. You squandered the primary against Bush in 2000 and you have now given the 2008 election away!

Comment by Jack Kellum

What kind of sick woman leaves her 4 month old baby with Downs Syndrome behind to run a campain!?
Nice, a real family values candidate! The only thing people need to know about this woman is that she chose the campaign trail over the well being of her 4 month old child!

McCain has pulled my vote off the fence. I suspect we’ll come to learn a great deal about Gov. Palin’s track record of smashing a mallet in the guts of waste, corruption and the good ole’boy network. I too am looking forward to the Palin Biden debate. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, she’ll be ready, will hand him his business as usual, arragont, Washington Insider head on a platter. Believe it. She is “tough as nails” and her job will be easy, point out that neither Biden or Obama have any experience at all running government.

Really though, I shouldn’t focus on Biden. Obama is actually the one running for President on the basis of a term in a state legislature ( I suspect most of that time was spent day dreaming of last night ), a month or two - on the job in the U.S. Senate; a book and some good speeches. Zero, none, zip, nada executive experience. Again, Obama has absolutely no experience for the office he seeks. The President of the United States is an executive position, not legislative. Indeed Gov. Palin has more experience then the entire Democratic ticket. And we’ll be learning how successful she has been in that capacity. I can’t be any happier. Youth, integrity, experience, common sense and a track record, yes, an actual track record of changing that which is broken. Now that is change I can believe in.

Senators Biden and Obama, what have you changed in your combined time in Washington?

Comment by Sharron

If McCain is elected, he will not serve more than 4 years. Pallin would then run for president. If Obama is elected, and loses reelection as Carter did, then Hillary will run. It would be a stunning 2012. Pallin is a highly capable and principled woman. I respect the decisions she has made on a professional and personal level. Obama’s campaign says she is too inexperienced to be a heartbeat away- but Obama is too inexperienced to be THE heartbeat.
Congratulations to the McCain campaign on making a fantastic decision.

What a gift to Sen Obama. Biden can tell her that

McCain and Fox network (the republican propaganda machine) will be defeated big time.

The idea that this woman could draw disaffected Hillary voters is not only insulting but mind-boggling. The woman advocates teaching creationism in the public schools! Her husband works for BP (formerly British Petroleum)and she has been a bane to the environment. In two years as governor, she has lobbied aggressively to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling and pushed for more drilling off of Alaska’s coasts. Recent accomplishments? She sued the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove the polar bear from the endangered species list. Did I mention choice? This is no Hillary.

Comment by Christopher McElree

As a 20-year Alaska resident, I’d like to mention some things about Sarah Palin that are important, but may not get wide coverage by the liberal media. Sarah Palin is a different sort of politician. She doesn’t live in a mansion as most politicians seem to. She still lives in her modest Wasilla home with her family. Sarah Palin does not travel Alaska in the comfort of former governor Murkowski’s leisure jet. You’ll find her right next to you in coach. You’ll find her shopping for her family, or standing in line at the fair like any other person. You can walk right up and talk to her. She’s genuine, and naturally friendly. Her son Rrack enlisted in the Army last September. No fancy pants officer like Biden’s son, he’s just a regular joe grunt. Her husband is a 4-time champion of the iron-dog snowmobile race…a 2,000 mile trek through the most remote country in the US. He’s a regular joe too, and union member. There exists no hint of aristocracy in the Palin family.
I believe these are factors that make her an inspiring choice in an era of status-quo rejection, and fight for change. Fighting for that change has been Sarah Palin’s mission from day 1. She’s truly one of us. No fancy education from a fancy school. No hillside mansions, no million dollar income, just honest effort in the face of a machine that threatened to destroy her.

I believe that McCain has definitely picked a good choice for his VP. She seems as though she can be tough when it’s absolutely necessary. I don’t think she will have any problems in debating with Joe Biden. I respect the fact that she is pro-life and believes in same sex marriage. We so desperately need these values back in our country. Hooray for McCain/Palin!

OPPS! I didn’t mean same sex marriage……..I meant traditional marriage between a man and woman. I apologize for my mistake.

Comment by Patricia

OPPS! I apologize for my first comment about same sex marriage. What a terrible error as I certainly disagree with same sex marriage.

I am new to Fox News blog site……..have been blogging on MSNBC for a while now. But Fox News is my favorite news channel, although I watch Fox, MSNBC, and CNN. To me, Fox is the only one that is completely fair and balanced.

Today, for the first time, MSNBC deleted my blogs as they said it went against their COH and User Agreement. I have never abused either of those two. I have seen some of the most hateful remarks from Dems regarding Repubs and vice versa (and a lot of Repubs post on there) and a lot of obscene language is used. I even witnessed the other day two men that were blogging and talking to a female blogger about having sex with her in a very dirty way. She went right with them, and this is upheld by MSNBC. I have never been abusive in my blogs, just stood up for the republican party and my beliefs as many have on that blog site. But, my blogs were deleted today, and some of those same people I previously mentioned are still blogging away with their usual obscenties.

Maybe they didn’t like the idea of me so heartily supporting McCain’s choice of VP.

Today, on my blog I really hailed McCain’s pick of Palin. I had posted about 4 blogs on there standing up for what I believe as a Republican, as I usually do, and why I thought Gov. Palin was the right selection to make. That’s when they took them all off. Another lady also complained that her blog was not on there either. MSNBC is definitely the most biased news channel ever to appear on TV. I do not plan to watch them again.

Comment by Patricia

I apologize for my crazy mistake in saying same sex marriage, which I thoroughly disagree with.

I stand firm in my belief that Gov. Palin will be an excellent VP and she and Senator McCain will make a terrific match.

Comment by s. Powell

Gov. Palin is an excellent choice for a VP! She is a no-nonsense, conservative reformist and Washington outsider who puts America first before politics. McCain has been been doing the same in Washington for years fighting the establishment since he has been in office. This is exactly what we need in Washington!

The Dems need to check in to the ‘real world’ and look beyond slick speeches and cameo shots and look at something called ’substance’. The real problem with Obama is not so much his lack of experience but his somewhat questionable background. His ties with anti-American radicals and racists from the Chicago left side should send some bad signals about who the real Obama is.

Did I also mention that you never see Obama wearing an Amercian flag pin?? Is he afraid that he might upset the French or something by appearing to be a proud American?? Hmmmm.

Go McCain/Palin 2008!

Great call for McCain! If the Democrats win in November, God forbid, then the smart people who voted for them will not have voted for Obama. Their vote will have been for Biden. Is Jack Kellum’s comment for real? Who said she was leaving a sick baby behind to campaign. I would imagine that a woman who has the integrity, strength of character, abilities and kahunas that this woman has will manage to ensure that all five of her children are well cared for. My mom said the same thing that Jack said. I was hoping this type of sexist attitude was a thing of the past.

Jesse Jackson only said he wanted to castrate Senator Obama.
John Mccain has actually done it,with his pick of a fine woman as his VP.
The beautiful thing, is that Obama himself handed Mccain the knife, when he did not pick Hillary.
I predict a landslide for McCain-Palin in November.

John McCain has shown the American people what poor judgement he truly has and his VP pick is a desperate attempt to win this race. As a 72 year old man who has faced cancer on more than one occasion, to select a running mate with no experience, not to mention someone he has only met once is an outrage. Did you notice how uncomfortable he looked on stage with his new running mate. Maybe that is because he doesn’t know her. If he was trying to appeal to women, this backfired. As a 50 year old woman, I am sickened by his pandering. Barack Obama and Joe Biden have lifted this country up and made us believe that we can once again be strong. They inspire and motivate. The Obamas and Bidens are constantly showing affection to their spouses and families and the McCains act as if they cannot stand one another. What a contrast to see the Democratic candidates together on stage and then The Republicans. As for Palin, as a mother of three I am not impressed by her returning to work three days after her child was born and then going on the campaign trail with a four month old child. Where are the family values in the GOP?

Comment by Fabienne

I find it very disheartening that McCain would choose a VP to run the white house with him that he has only met physically once in his life. Very questionable decision indeed! He does not seem to thouroughly think things through.

Great. Palin- An evangelical christian slinging an automatic rifle (have you seen the pics/video?). Do people with this combined mentality really exist on this planet? Scary to say the least, I have never put god and automatic rifles together, such an interesting combination. As well she is a proponent of of drilling the Alaska wilderness for the benfit of her husband and friends that work for the biggest employer in Alaska, OIL COMPANIES! No more of the repub/oil company coalition great american rip-off machine! I would hope that America would want to clean up this mess after 8 years of “drilling”. No more hard right politicians in America please! (I am not even hard core dem). Vote for anybody but McCain/Palin.

Sarah Palin was the perfect choice! She brings executive experience and real life experience. The Democrats are the ones who don’t get it. This choice wasn’t about them, I know that must be hard for them to understand. The Republican base is conservative and Palin fits that to a tee. Get a grip Obama, everything isn’t about Y O U!

I am a conservative and I am initially very enthusiastic about Sarah Pallin. I had reservations until I heard her speak in Ohio. If she can continue the “leadership quality air or ambiance” shown yesterday, stay a proponent of conservative principles, is able to be President McCain’s point person with Congress and make change, then we may be looking at the first lady president.

I am very proud it was the Republican party who were the most forward thinking to break the barrier of gender bias in selection of a female vice president! She is smart, confident, and an experienced woman in government who will bring a lot to the table. To me, it speaks volumes for the conservative party to take this GIANT leap towards a true playing field. Being a female in this country is still a huge struggle in many ways; especially when it comes to holding higher positions. Although she has been in government long enough to be considered a contender, even SHE didn’t think she had a chance. THANK YOU, John McCain, for being forward thinking enough to be the one in this race to consider talent without regard to gender! I can also only say that if Obama was smart, he would have selected Hillary for HIS vice president - by not doing so may very well cost him the presidency! Obama talks the talk, but doesn’t walk the walk…

You go John McCain!

Why would you ASUME tha Palin is not taking care of her children. This is crazy, who are we to judge her? You can’t no should you say that. every body runs there house different, maybe her husband is a TRUE backbone for her and it works for them.

Is there any sane person that can prove why Palin is more qualified to be VP or Pres than Tom Ridge, a decorated combat hero, a Cabinet secretary and the former two-term governor of the large, complex state of Pennsylvania or Mitt Romney, who ran a big state, Massachusetts; a big company, Bain Capital; and a big event, the Olympics ? Shows the complete LACK of JUDGEMENT. Another total Lack of JUDGEMENT on a huge matter of importance is these very complex times for us. Can anyone here give 5 areas that have relevance towards VP or Pres where Palin is more qualified than Romney or Ridege. No way. Very SAD - God save us!!

Are you really serious?
McCain has choosen Pallin because of her being a woman first… Not cause she is the most qualified… I feel your insulting woman’s inteligence on picking the best candidate.. Woman are now going to run out and vote for the republicain ticket because she’s a woman that they may relate too. They’re alot of woman that you can relate to but that doesn’t mean they should be one step from running the country.. If she was a man with the same qualifications… McCain wouldn’t even give it a thought.. I feel this is a desperate move to pick up votes … I will be choosing the best ticket and my feelings is Obama and Biden is a better choice for the country…
P.S. It amaze’s me how so many people want to defend this pick of VP.. But most are just getting to know her and her story yesterday.. Even McCain only met her twice.. All I can say… Are you really serious?

I was in a medical office yesterday and saw the enthusiasm and how energized people were who were watching the announcement. From the physicians to the patients, the ‘buzz’ was Gov. Palin is a spectacular pick. She is a mom and Govenor, she plays hockey, her nickname is ‘baraccuda’, and she took on the Republican establishment. It was absolutely a ‘renergizing’ event. One of the admitted conversative patients said he was going to let McCain “do it on his own”…now, he is actively going to vote McCain.

South Carolina is a conservative state, but with the McCain nomination, I think many individuals were not motivated to participate in the process. However, with Palin’s selection, her ‘outsider’ persona and bold, enthusiatic approach will prompt these individuals to relook at McCain and see his best qualities–as Gov. Palin pointed out in her announcement–and her continued efforts will energize many people to vote in Nov.

I am amazed that Democratic women would look at Sarah Palin, and not understand what they are willing to give up by voting McCain-Palin because she is a woman!

Before everyone gets all in a wad, let me say that I wore John McCain’s POW bracelet all the years he was a POW. He is a hero, and an American icon. I sent the bracelet to John when he won his first Senate race. I love the person. Being a hero was thrust upon him, and he did it well, but Barack was also in a war on the south side of Chicago. Having grown up as an abused child who came through the foster system, I lived that war. Believe me, it was a war which Brack fought, and is still fighting. So am I.

THis last 3 years, I have lost my job, lost my home to foreclosure, and been thrust into bankruptcy. Oh yes, also buried 8 family members during that time, to add a little more stress and heartache. No, I am not a “whining American”, but I am an elderly woman who raised a family alone, made some rather uusual accomplishments, and lost it all under George Bush’s administration. Oh yes, I am also an Evangelical Christian, for the last 60 years, who thinks for herself, rather than allowing preachers to tell me what to do and think and feel and vote!

Do the PEOPLE of this country REALLY want to take steps backwards on abortion rights, gun control, and far right rulings by our supreme court? As nice as Sarah Palin is, it is not enough that she is a woman. She must be the RIGHT woman- not the “far right woman”. When abortion is not allowed in the event of rape or incest, then all rights for women have been suspended.

John McCain chose Sarah because he wanted to throw a woman in Barack Obama’s face. What’s not to love! She’s gorgeous, articulate, strong, and Alaska needs her.

No, Barack did not choose Hillary, because as much loved and qualified as she is, he would also have gotten Bill, who even though he is greatly loved, does not always know when to hush. He could not afford to be overshadowed by Bill and Hillary. Hillary’s grace under fire should help guide our choices at this point. Bill does important work, but it is not to be the co-president with Barack.

I think the issue of experience is greatly overblown for both Barack and Sarah. If we could throw all of congress out, and start over, then the President, whoever he might be, might have a chance at doing a good jobl.

Think, People! Voting is a privilege, as well as a RESPONSIBILITY. This time, especially, we have to put the country, and its needs above our personal wants and feelings. We MUST NOT take steps backward because Mr. McCain chose a woman. Sour grapes never made good wine. Hillary would be devastated to think that her supporters are so vapid that we would desert our party to vote for a woman who, while admirable on so many levels, is NOT supportive of Democratic values, just because the other ticket has a woman. If we decide to vote Republican just because Mr. McCain chose a female running mate, then we will deserve the chaos and pain and diminished rights that we will have in the coming 4 years.

It really is sad that America does not know the real Sarah Palin, if they did, they would not be happy that McCain chose her. They paint her as this wonderful person, HA!!! If they only knew…..
