Obama’s Convention Speech: “The American Promise”
Just released by the Obama camp:
Excerpts of the Remarks of Senator Barack Obama
“The American Promise”
Democratic National Convention
August 28, 2008
Denver, Colorado
As prepared for delivery
“Four years ago, I stood before you and told you my story – of the brief union between a young man from Kenya and a young woman from Kansas who weren’t well-off or well-known, but shared a belief that in America, their son could achieve whatever he put his mind to.
“It is that promise that has always set this country apart – that through hard work and sacrifice, each of us can pursue our individual dreams but still come together as one American family, to ensure that the next generation can pursue their dreams as well.
“It is why I stand here tonight. Because for two hundred and thirty two years, at each moment when that promise was in jeopardy, ordinary men and women – students and soldiers, farmers and teachers, nurses and janitors — found the courage to keep it alive.
“We meet at one of those defining moments – a moment when our nation is at war, our economy is in turmoil, and the American promise has been threatened once more.
“Tonight, more Americans are out of work and more are working harder for less. More of you have lost your homes and more are watching your home values plummet. More of you have cars you can’t afford to drive, credit card bills you can’t afford to pay and tuition that is beyond your reach
“These challenges are not all of government’s making. But the failure to respond is a direct result of a broken politics in Washington and the failed presidency of George W. Bush.
“America, we are better than these last eight years. We are a better country than this.”
***
“This moment – this election – is our chance to keep, in the 21st century, the American promise alive. Because next week, in Minnesota, the same party that brought you two terms of George Bush and Dick Cheney will ask this country for a third. And we are here because we love this country too much to let the next four years look just like the last eight. On November 4th, we must stand up and say: “Eight is enough.”
“Now let there be no doubt. The Republican nominee, John McCain, has worn the uniform of our country with bravery and distinction, and for that we owe him our gratitude and respect. And next week, we’ll also hear about those occasions when he’s broken with his party as evidence that he can deliver the change that we need.
“But the record’s clear: John McCain has voted with George Bush ninety percent of the time. Senator McCain likes to talk about judgment, but really, what does it say about your judgment when you think George Bush was right more than ninety percent of the time? I don’t know about you, but I’m not ready to take a ten percent chance on change.”
***
“You see, we Democrats have a very different measure of what constitutes progress in this country.
“We measure progress by how many people can find a job that pays the mortgage; whether you can put away a little extra money at the end of each month so that you can someday watch your child receive her diploma. We measure progress in the 23 million new jobs that were created when Bill Clinton was President – when the average American family saw its income go up $7,500 instead of down $2,000 like it has under George Bush.
“We measure the strength of our economy not by the number of billionaires we have or the profits of the Fortune 500, but by whether someone with a good idea can take a risk and start a business, or whether the waitress who lives on tips can take a day off to look after a sick kid without losing her job – an economy that honors the dignity of work.
“The fundamentals we use to measure economic strength are whether we are living up to that fundamental promise that has made this country great – a promise that is the only reason I am standing here tonight.”
***
“That’s the promise we need to keep. That’s the change we need right now. So let me spell out exactly what that change would mean if I am President.
.
“Change means a tax code that doesn’t reward the lobbyists who wrote it, but the American workers and small businesses who deserve it.
“Unlike John McCain, I will stop giving tax breaks to corporations that ship our jobs overseas, and I will start giving them to companies that create good jobs right here in America.
“I will eliminate capital gains taxes for the small businesses and the start-ups that will create the high-wage, high-tech jobs of tomorrow.
“I will cut taxes – cut taxes – for 95% of all working families. Because in an economy like this, the last thing we should do is raise taxes on the middle-class.
“And for the sake of our economy, our security, and the future of our planet, I will set a clear goal as President: in ten years, we will finally end our dependence on oil from the Middle East.
“Washington has been talking about our oil addiction for the last thirty years, and John McCain has been there for twenty-six of them. In that time, he’s said no to higher fuel-efficiency standards for cars, no to investments in renewable energy, no to renewable fuels. And today, we import triple the amount of oil as the day that Senator McCain took office.
“Now is the time to end this addiction, and to understand that drilling is a stop-gap measure, not a long-term solution. Not even close.
“As President, I will tap our natural gas reserves, invest in clean coal technology, and find ways to safely harness nuclear power. I’ll help our auto companies re-tool, so that the fuel-efficient cars of the future are built right here in America. I’ll make it easier for the American people to afford these new cars. And I’ll invest $150 billion over the next decade in affordable, renewable sources of energy – wind power and solar power and the next generation of biofuels; an investment that will lead to new industries and five million new jobs that pay well and can’t ever be outsourced.”
***
“We are the party of Roosevelt. We are the party of Kennedy. So don’t tell me that Democrats won’t defend this country. Don’t tell me that Democrats won’t keep us safe. The Bush-McCain foreign policy has squandered the legacy that generations of Americans — Democrats and Republicans – have built, and we are to restore that legacy.
“As Commander-in-Chief, I will never hesitate to defend this nation, but I will only send our troops into harm’s way with a clear mission and a sacred commitment to give them the equipment they need in battle and the care and benefits they deserve when they come home.
“I will end this war in Iraq responsibly, and finish the fight against al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan. I will rebuild our military to meet future conflicts. But I will also renew the tough, direct diplomacy that can prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. I will build new partnerships to defeat the threats of the 21st century: terrorism and nuclear proliferation; poverty and genocide; climate change and disease. And I will restore our moral standing so that America is once more the last, best hope for all who are called to the cause of freedom, who long for lives of peace, and who yearn for a better future.”

Barack, you talk about change in this, change in that. NOW BARACK tell us what the changes are going to be…. America deserves that and not the BS that is being tossed around by you and your fellow Democrats Teddy (I blacked out and don’t know that girl in the water) Kennedy or Nancy (I think we need a law in San Francisco banning smoking in your own home) Pelose.
Not JFK’s party, if I remember right JFK said, ” Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country.” And Obama’s is, ” Ask what your country can do for you not what you can do for your country.” Not to mention I have researched Obama’s voting history and he has lied about almost everything he say’s he is for. He has consistantly voted no on almost every bill that would benifit the lower amd middle wage earners and college students. Small businesses got a big dump on them as well. He voted yes on a bill that gave a big chunk of money to the oil companies while McCain voted no on the oil and yes on the bills that would of helped all of the lower incomes and college students. So for all you people out there who think Obama is so great, all I can say is you did not bother to research the man. Obama has voted with his party 96.5% of the time while McCain has voted along his party lines 85% of the time. So Obama even lied there. The only thing Obama has probibly been honest about is his name and even there I find it hard to believe him as he has lied so often. He says he is against Lobbiest yet who is parting hardy with the DNC? Oh yeah the lobbiest. He says he is against pork spending yet he has used over $95 million in the first 143 days he was in congress and Biden has used over $195 million. McCain has said he is against the use of pork and he has used ZERO dallors in pork. Biden’s son is a lobbiest and Biden is hard core radical along with Obama. So what change is Obama going to bring? That of Chicago’s dirty politics.
come on
Just Beyond the Horizon
In some ways, he is standing
on their shoulders, fulfilling
their dreams, his dream
made real, in this moment
this fragment of time
Their histories converging, joining
two speeches, one this night
one just beyond the horizon
just outside my memory,
beyond his memory too
those forty-five summers ago
Turning a page, on our nation’s history
unimaginable that day
alive in this special night
both giving voice to their hope
their faith, their prayer for this land
Their words echoing, ringing
merging in our minds, our hearts
a dream, a journey, a down-payment
inexorable progress, committed now,
like water through a crack in a dike
a torrent, open waters, living
freedom achievable for our people
coming for our people, even if,
just beyond the horizon still

on the Presidential Nomination acceptance speech by Barack Obama,
the I Have a Dream speech by the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.
on August 28, 1963, and the comments on NPR today of
Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-DC, and
Representative John Lewis, D-GA
I am so sick and tired of being told about the doom and gloom. I dropped out of high school in 1970, and retired Jan 2008. When I left the government I was making almost $100K a year. The first year I made $5,600.00. Over the 32 years I worked hard and took advantage of any educational benefit provided. I’m 55 years young with a very comfortable stock of cash, and a nice monthly check courtesy of MY individal retirement plan. NO SOCIAL SECURITY. DON’T NEED IT. I’m proof that you can do anything that you want. I was married and divorced with one child. Divorced when my child was 3 years old. Never received one dime from anyone. Had/have insurance for my life which is discounted by my years with the federal government. MY POINT IS GET OFF YOUR LAZY EFFING BUTT AND WORK. THE OMNIPOTENT ONE IS NOT GOING TO GIVE YOU ANYTHING. HIMSELF WILL BREAK THE BACK OF THIS COUNTRY. WAKE UP
Typical White person - you are right on - they want everything for nothing - and think Obama is the one to give it to them.
For everyone saying how bad Bush is, he has kept your sorry a$$ safe, he has kept his promise to protect your right to freedom of speech (such as your speech is) and you know what you are? a very huge spoiled baby liberal.
You think for a moment BUSH would talk as bad as about Clinton or Obama? I think not!!!!!!! You make this country sound like there is nothing great about it. It has been sad hearing you all saying our country is this bad. WE LIVE IN THE GREATEST GENEROUS COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. Is it so hard to live here? You could relocate to Russia, China, Iran or any other dicatorship country. How does that sound? Then you could keep your big liberal mouths shut. Sounds good to me….
We love America and it is obvious you don’t - Please leave our country alone,
We dont want your kind of change. Why dont you go to another country, and control that. You have found too much wrong here, go elsewhere.
Thank you…..
‘And the clouds will open and a light will shine down upon Barack Obama and everything will be fine.” Yeah, except he ain’t getting elected. What does he know about America anyway. He still thinks there are 57 states.
Obamas people want to slam McCain for having so many homes. Well lets look at how many homes they could buy with the money spent to make HIS convention surpass anything in history!!!
I registered to vote for the first time in my life this year because I wanted to vote for Hillary, but it is evident now that I will be a McCain supporter.
This is REFRESHING to hear strong, competent, upbeat, can-do, self-reliant people here! KC & TWP - AGREE whole-heartedly & you don’t sound like bitter femi-nazis either……blaming others for keeping you down. The ONLY person keeping you down is yourself……don’t blame others!!! I find Clintonistas, Obhamas, Biden, Bitter Michelle, VERY VERY patronizing, insulting, ridiculous like we NEEEEEED the government to solve our problems, can’t raise our kids without the beaureaucrats. GET THE HECK OUT!!!!! Give social security BACK, free market on healthcare, talk radio, jobs, strong military is all we need that is still BEST of our government.
so any one who has been in the Senate for a long time is responsible for the oil prices going up (Biden) so lets elect some one with hardly any experience to be POTUS and then the oil prices will magically go down- makes sense to B.O. or at least the speech writer
so any one who has been in the Senate a long time (Biden) is responsible for the increase in oil prices- solution -elect some one to be POTUS with hardly any experience in the Senate and oil prices will magically go down
Has anyone been counting the blatant lies that “The One” has told so far in this speech? He is not even done yet and there have been at least a dozen outright lies. On top of that Obama has made a million promises to 300 million people but explained nothing of how he would pay for all of this.
Great speech!! But… How can he fix it all? That’s what he is saying pretty much in the speech I just heard lots of promises but haven’t seen no action from him, where is these bills and votes to make the change he is talking about? He has already had a chance to make some change but he says its about me and you but all I have seen in his actions has been about him wanting to become president since he hit the senate. If I could only believe half the things he said tonight I would vote for Obama he called out a lot of problems that needs to be fixed but to believe he really wants to and can fix them is something else.
After listening to the Obama speech, I have to say - Someone watched the movie The American President one too many times.
Dear Typical -
I’d say your cushy 100K a year government job is one of the reasons why taxes are so high. Say “thank you” to the rest of us who paid your salary, for you retirement, education and reduced fee health care.
obama was amazing tonight. john mcain knows absolutely nothing about the economy. as a small business owner,i’ll never vote republican again. i’ll will most likely have to close my shop next week after 5 years. the bush administration lied to us, lead us astray, and ruined our homeland economy. down with the republicans forever
Speech was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RIDICULOUS & PATRONIZING!!!!! I couldn’t take it, had to turn it off. When you look at the people in the crowd at that stadium, pitiful zombies, guess that’s why they like hearing sob story, like Uncle Obhama is going to solve allllllll their malfunctions. GET OUT OF OUR LIVES!!!!!!! One thing I liked about Thompson is he STOPPPED dumb stuff. They said he didn’t pass much, GOOOOOOOOOOOD, very useful to STOP nanny garbage.
I cannot tell you how disappointed with what I have seen so far in this convention. I cannot remember if I have ever seen so much hypocrisy and lack of loyalty. It started with the end of the primary, when Sen. Clinton’s delegates started abandoning her, friends are suppose to stick with you to the end as long as you are above board. I don’t even know where to start talking about the “POLLING” it was obviously prearranged, California. 441 votes that would have given Sen. Clinton the boost she needed PASSES give me a break. I had been a Democrat ever since I could vote, but when I saw what was going on early I switch my affiliation to Independent, after seeing this 1-120 million-dollar SHOW I am convinced I made the right decision.
I am sure that once the spectacle is over I will be even more convinced that I have made the right decision to vote for Sen. McCain. We have so many people in America hurting and he’s wasting money on this nonsense, with columns and fireworks, this is a disgrace to the memory of Dr. King, I would not imagine that he would even allowed his people to put on such a spectacle. It hurts me as a black woman to see a black man reach a level to have the possibility to become the president of this united states and handle it so shamefully.
We do not need any more rock star types we have enough of them already, they end up in some of the worst scandals.
It is just unbelievable what I seen, I am VERY disappointed.

Do we just think of ourselves or do we help our fellow people get on there feet. I know where I stand. Go Obama.
Now that the anointed one has spoken, what’s new? It is the same thing we have been hearing from Obama since he started. If hard work is what structured him and his family then why is it that we should look to him to make us feel so secure in our future when has limited experience in Washington.
I still have not heard why I should give him my vote. I don’t need nor do I want to be part of a dictator system.

I would like to give an example of how the failed Bush-Cheney policies have driven the middle class into poverty and held back minorities.
My example is Barack Obama, a poor guy who went from middle class to millionaire, from junior senator to candidate for the President of the United States. I know, it’s hard to hold back the tears.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!
Great American speech… http://enewsreference.wordpress.com/2008/08/28/barack-obama-gives-electrifying-acceptance-speech/
BARACK OBAMA
OUR NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.
GO BARACK OBAMA 2008
ITS TIME ITS TIME IT TIME FOR A CHANGE.
The real Barack Obama speech, as I saw it, began with a short 10 minute or so video montage of his family history and Chicago experience, (leaving out any and all mention of his Chicago mentors or his early childhood outside of the United States of America).
After that video Obama started in for the first 20 minutes of his oratory, bashing George W. Bush, with the most memorable line that Bush “sat on his hands while the people of New Orleans drowned”. He also proceeded to label McCain as 90% just like G.W. Bush, with the only really memorable jab being that he would not take a chance on a “10% change” in America.
For about another 10 minutes he once again paraded his family with inspirational quotes from his mother, Grandmother, and Grandfather, saying they were his celebrities, in another attack against the “celebrity” McCain Ad.
For the last 15 minutes Barack began listing a number of things he would change, without giving any real specifics as to how he would accomplish it. There was no mention of his experience in Washington, or any real legislative accomplishments in his speech at all which would have given any indication that he has had success or experience there.
In fact, the only really memorable quote from this part of his speech was that change comes from “outside” of Washington.
I’d say that though he used rhetoric that Democrats would certainly “want to hear”, he again was “typical Obama” in sharing no substance.
Though there was plenty of fanfare, I thought the “substance” was lacking.
John McCain has changed from the guy I gave money to (when I had very little) in 2000 into a turd.
I don’t think he can claim the mantle of honor any more, and he knows it.
Patriots don’t question other senator’s patriotism because of a policy disagreement, and John McCain should be ashamed.
************
I also think there is a real contrast of family values between our two choices. One is a loyal Born-Again Christian family man who has a close family with two beautiful daughters who only recently has experienced the material wealth that might eventually make someone distant from the concerns of normal people. The other repeatedly cheated on his first wife, left her for his wealthy mistress, and awkwardly uses his POW status to cover over his discomfort with discussing his faith and other difficult topics, and has lived a life of luxury and privilege, aside from his years of service.
I think personal life is not always the most important consideration, but McCain keeps trying to turn the discussion that direction, so I think his should be examined too.
Will you endorse adultery with your vote?
Typical; you are proof that you can accomplish anything IF YOU ARE GIVEN THE CHANCE. There aren’t nor have been many government jobs HANDED to high school drop outs. How did you get yours? Somebody took a chance on a kid that was too lazy to graduate. The average 3 bedroom house cost 20K in 1970. Gas was .75 a gallon. That 5600 that you made THEN would equate to 45k now. How many drop outs get to make 45k now?
Can someone tell me anything MCCAIN has ACCOMPLISHED in the 26 YEARS he’s been in Washington (besides buy houses)
We went to war in Iraq to
1) search for WMD
2) oust Saddam Hussien
3) establish a democracy
The weapons weren’t there (and NEVER were) Saddam has been dead for a long time now and the Iraqi’s voted how many YEARS ago? Whyn do WE need to keep our troops in harms way for 100 years? (at least 75 of which McCain won’t live long enough to see)
to typical white person—-amen! The Chosen is just mouthing off — where is he going to get all the money? those mesmerized will come out of trance soon enough i hope and start really thinking. it’s typical tactic to make people really feel bad so they would look up for a saviour to save themselves. thus…obama’s messiah image. bear in mind the saying…God help those who help themselves. by the way who paid for all the gaudy bash? obama’s lobbyists friends i bet. fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country. mccain answered this call all his life. obama?—- mccain ‘08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THis speech will be talked about and replayed for months to come…. Now we will see what McCain has for us in his speech next week… We need to listen to both of them, and make a educated, NOT a politacal decision …..Be a smart voter….
Obama promises the world, the laundry list longer than ever…but realistically no politician can deliver on all this…believable would be to focus on a list of priority issues…but to fix everything? I don’t think so.
The entire speech was a contradiction - praising the sacrifice of his Grandparents & Mom, toting that their struggles enabled his American Dream - then turning and saying the American Dream is at risk on the brink of extinction because of people’s struggles today. NEWS FLASH Obama, the struggle they endured was hard, struggle is hard, which is why it is called the American DREAM because there is much satisfaction when success is achieved! Otherwise it would be called the American ENTITLEMENT.
Obviously you don’t understand the sacrifice and struggle of those before you or you wouldn’t steal the American Dream by providing it via a government program.
Pretty stupid Change in my opinion.
my water at home is messed up.i think obama should watch his back from the nazi vp running mate
Oh you very synical people who always throw rocks at anyone who advances anything other than the same old, same old. Why is it that we Americans can’t stand anyone who is smarter than us. I don’t want anyone who graduated almost last in his college class and you shouldn’t either. WE deserve the smartest people to run our country and Barack Obama is as smart as they come. He has run a NEAR flawless campaign with such organization like we haven’t seen before. Who has experience for the Presidency? George Bush had experience and what did he do for us? I can no longer afford to be a Republican. I’m willing to put this petty nick picking and Propaganda from both sides away and I have researched the candidates and my choice is Barack Obama. He can do no worse than GW or McCain.
The American Promise that Obama enumerated was tooo longggg………He need at least 20 years in office as President of USA to fullfill all this ” promises “, that is IF he can ….. ………………..there is nothing new to his speech tonight………..typical political rhetoric.
Biden is an old hat in Congress……..where is the change here ? Wrong choice of VP.
Obama’s speech was nothing but platitude, attack, platitude, attack. As usual, he offered nothing in the way of substantive solutions. Instead, when he did say what he wanted as opposed to what he was against, he offered something obvious, such as “energy independence” (in 10 years, no less), or that he would get bin Laden. Who doesn’t want this?! But how is he going to achieve it? He never got beyond the platitudes.
One of the blogs used the old phrase “Where’s the beef?” to describe his speech. Very fitting.
Some say, Obama had a get speech tonight, I like to call him the great persuader, I just can’t see great president! everytime I bother to listen to his preaching I walk away with the question, Yea but how are you going to do what you say? How?
After doing the research I can confirm that Obama is a liar.
By the way, no matter which person is elected is it not the time for new energy? oh, like he is going to do it, were already moving that direction.
Why is the Media Glorifying Obama ? What is the “excitement” all about ?
To me, he is just a plain looking guy with a funny name & big ears . Since he became a Senator, what are his accomplishements in the Senate so far ?
He gives good well prepared written speeches….that is the only thing he is good at .
Change on WHAT ? Promises, Promises, Promises …….too many to be broken after election is over. He is not God nor Moses………he can not make miracles with a stroke of his finger. It will take him years for the long list of things he wants to do in office. Good luck to him.
Did Obama call himself the boy from Kenya. I thought he was from Hawaii!
““Four years ago, I stood before you and told you my story – of the brief union between a young man from Kenya and a young woman from Kansas who weren’t well-off or well-known, but shared a belief that in America, their son could achieve whatever he put his mind to.”
Sound good but Obama has no experienc.
Just like you saying, I will fight and beat the current heavyweight boxing champion because my idea of fighting is a new change. To do that, you have to do a lot of training and you realy have to try your new technique and see whether it works first.
More than likely, You will get knock out just few seconds on the first round.
Obama has no experience and has no idea if what he is talking about works.
Heres some FACTS for you haters to chew on!
Mc Cains judgement? What judgement?
- Cheated on his injured wife after car accident
- Left her and his kids for another younger woman.
- Received a marriage license before he was divorced from his first wife.
- Married current wife 1 month after divorce.
- His children from his 1st marraige would not talk to him for years!
- Keating five SCANDAL!
-Only got into college because of his father!

- His answer to every question asked! “I’m POw I’m A Pow POw Pow POw POw POw Pow Pow!” How many times do we have to hear this?
Wake up people!
No American promise is threatened. If so, by whom? More of the same typical democratic doom and gloom. You achieve your promise and dreams on your own through hard work and self-reliance. Not on the government teats that people think they need to gorge on. Government is not the answer, but the problem. To see the masses blubber over this Obama character is disgusting. Quit relying on government to tell you what to do, where to do it, when to do it, and what to do it with.
Hell Yeah!
I just watched Obama give the most truthful speech, and the most moving speech of my lifetime. One that has made me proud of my country for the first time in my life.
I have never been a voter because I hated politics. The lies and self serving rhetoric of politicians made me ashamed of this country on so many occasions that I could not make myself vote for the lesser of two evils as my mother called it. My mother, may God rest her soul, was of the belief that it was our duty as Americans to vote. She was a firm believer in the idea that those who did not vote had no right to complain about this country.
Well with the exception of one local election, I refused to vote, because I was of the opinion that evil was evil and I was above choosing the lesser of the evils. Now I, a daughter born into a military family, who was once so ashamed of the country I live, have found new hope from a man that I, like many others, felt was to inexperienced to lead this country.
In my job, I am trained to watch for facial expressions and body language that indicates truthfulness. Obama was totally truthful in his acceptance speech, and more than that what he was right on in everything. He hit the nail on the head, if you will pardon my expression, in every single topic that he covered. He not only described what is wrong with this country, but he also explained exactly what it would take to fix it. He has allowed me to see for the first time, the dreams and ideas that I know made my Mother love this country the way she did.
My Mother was somewhat racist, but I know in my heart that she would have voted for Obama, because he represents everything she knew was good about this country. Things that I never saw in my lifetime.
I will vote in this election, and I will vote for Obama. I will do it for my Mom, and I will do it so that my children and my grandchildren will be able to hold their heads up and be proud of the country in which they live. I will do it because, I believe that Obama has an honest understanding of what the American people need, and is not so arrogant that he will let politics or anything else stand in his way to reunite the country and bring about the change that we must have to gain our self respect once again. He will, in my opinion, take up where J.F.K. and Martin Luther King left off.
As for McCain, well he seems like a nice old man. However, the problem with old people is that they resist change. Mostly because they don’t understand it, but also because their minds aren’t able to process new information well.
We need someone who will represents America as strong and energetic, not as tired and outdated. We need a President who can give us the confidence to stand proud, not someone that we want to give a glass of warm milk to.
I am sorry, but even if I had not of been as impressed with Obama as I was, I would not want a tired old man being appointed President. And nice or not, you must admit that McCain comes across as just that. Think about it.
Vote for Obama, he at least understands what we are up against in this day and age.
I have attempted to leave a post in support of Obama, but it has not shown up. Is this because my post has been edited? The rich will keep on getting richer, because they have the power, be it on TV, Newspapers, and even the Internet. Obama is for the little guy, so is there any suprise?
I am so sick and tired of hearing how American they are. How they came up from nothing. Most of these people haven’t served a day in the Military. These are the same people telling there kids not to join. If you care that much about this country and you are under 42 put a uniform on or at least inspire your kids to. Now that’s being an American. If the military is not for you do some volunteer work. Don’t just tell your story on the internet. Go to some of the trailer parks and Ghetto’s and tell your story to them. That’s were your tax dollars are going anyways. Stop depending on the President for change. The real problem is must of you guys making 100K are scared of the trailer parks and the hoods, even though some of you all grew up in it. We argue over war and taxes and I am here to tell you that is never going to change.
It looks like Michelle would have enough money to get her teeth fixed. Her bottom lip barely covers them up. Disgusting.
Baraque Obama delivered a very strong, articulate, and powerful speech last night. He was very persuasive about his policies and issues. In fact, some of the views sounded conservative such as cutting taxes on small business and the middle class. Of course, he carefully avoided mentioning that he would raise taxes on corporations and the upper class. Nevertheless, I thought his speech was potentially very successful in pulling in the group of voters that he hasn’t made inroads with so far, the conservative democrats. I say “potentially” because there was one problem with his speech. He was yelling, he was humorless, expressionless, and downright mean in his tone, particularly when talking about John McCain or George W. Bush. From my perspective that made him unlikable, almost scary.
I didn’t think it was such a great speech. It was filled with the same platitudes as usual from Obama. It was full of sweeping promises for a litany of things we all want, but as usual, very thin on how he would be able to accomplish most of it. And, it was full of the adnauseam drum beat of tying McCain to failed Bush policies, with plenty of Bush bashing. What gave the speech any gravity, was the usual big adulating crowds, the big impressive venue, and the performing celebrities in attendance. But, in the final analysis, Obama is an inexperienced, candidate, lacking in the character, judgement and wisdom to lead this great country and actually solve its many problems and challenges. Keep America Strong, elect Senator John McCain in November.
Talk is cheap.
Undefind “change” is for chumps. Show me some substance!
How will Barak and the Dems “restore our moral standing” when they have no moral compass? Who will they use as a role model? They have no one of any defining moral character.
This is the same rhetoric we heard from the Dems in the last election. All I see is another empty suit……
How boring!
Barack Obama and the Temple of Doom
Despite the elaborate set and all the flowery prose from the false messiah last night, I do not believe the majority of Americans (Left Wing Media and brain dead Liberals aside) buy the hype. Lot’s of empty promises and lame attempts to tie McCain to the current administration.
Bottom line people:
If you believe Barack can eliminate our dependence on foreign oil in 10 years..
If you believe he had only passing acquaintenances with Ayers, Wright, Rezko, Pfleger, his Communist mentor Frank Marshall Davis
If you believe he was not present, in 20 years, to witness any of Wrights racist and black liberation sermons….
If you believe he will not be “Punked” by the world’s despots, like he was by the Clintons at the Dimocratic Convention……
Then you are one of the following..
Young and ignorant
Liberal, and by definition, stupid and susceptible to mind control
Too lazy to truly vett and understand your choice
Barack…….in November, the MAJORITY of us will prove we are none of the above.
Enjoy the spotlight while you have it………………..

Pssst! John Mccain is the biggest welfare queen in history….. He has been fed, clothed, best academic shools and medical care 26 years in the senate all on tax payer dollars since birth. No he doesn’t know anything about working for a living in this day and age. Most republicans are like me and you have served and backed the republican party with your whole heart and soul, but and I mean but, are you any better for it? All the talk over the years and your still in the same situation as I am. No better health care, gas prices, social security down the drain, war….war and more war. All the jobs gone over seas…. I’ll take my chances with the new guy!!!!
Did Obama attain his position ligitimately? Hell no! He has deceived a lot of people.
A sad situation to be in if you’re a staunch Democrat. Somewhat like being between a rock and a hard place. It’s difficult to imagine a “worse than Carter/Mondale” ticket but the party managed to do it somehow. Most patriots would know how to counter this fluke but others are either too wealthy to care or too ignorant to know the difference.

In 1976 Jimmy Carter promised change and to erase what amounted to three previous failed or at least scarred presidencies (Johnson, Nixon , and Ford). This country fell for it and ended up with what many call the most inept and incompetent president in this nation’s history. The sad truth is he bothers us to this very day with his unauthorized diplomacy and his deplorable attack on John McCain’s war hero status. Now enter Barack Obama with what is nothing more than a repeat of Jimmy Carter’s 1976 rhetoric but at least Carter did serve in the military although in a very small way. The world became a more dangerous place after the Cold War ended. At least back then the two super powers were able to pretty much hold things in check. Now more than ever we need decisive leadership and not some sliver tongued politician and a first lay that is a very angry woman dragging us down. Obama has totally failed to deliver anything substantial and should he get elected the consequences are to severe to even contemplate. Please America do not repeat the mistakes on 1976.
Do the dumb masses actually believe this Obama character? Anyone can pursue their dreams. If they don’t, that is an individual choice. Hard work, determination, self-reliance is a goal by choice, not through government interference. If people are losing their homes, most likely it was something they could not afford, but the government “forced” these lenders to give loans to people regardless of bad credit. People, take responsibility for your mistake. the biggest mistake was listening to government. You want them to tell you what to do and where to do it. Government is not the answer, they are the problem. Obama wants bigger government. This only brings further disaster, chaos and destruction. Heaven help if this.
Go watch the speech. Or try a different news source. Fox’s coverage is laughable at best.

Amen…”Typical White Person”. I live in an area that people just sit around waiting and wanting the government to give them a hand out. HUM, I guess that is why they are all believing the stories and lies from the Obama campaign. God have mercy on our great country, the USA.
Maybe I’m wrong on this as I do not follow intently on political timelines and facts, but maybe someone has the answer to this. The entire speech that Obama gave last night, actually the entire convention centered around 2 points. One, Obama got to live the dream of going to a great school, a child of a single parent, allowed to follow his dream because of scholarships and aid. He and his wife made something of themselves because they got the help and guidance and became these great people living the American dream. The second point of his speech was how bad the Republican party has been and that they are so out of touch with the middle class woes and went on to scream “ENOUGH!!” He went on to praise the Clinton administration on how great everything was back then and we need to get back to those values of making sure we are all given the opportunities that he and his wife had. Am I mistaken or wasn’t Ronald Reagan, A REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT, at the healm during the time Obama was fulfilling his dream and taking advantage of the opportunities the government was offering? Am I wrong in calculating these dates??? Anyone????
Did anybody else notice when Obama came out and greeted Joe Biden last night that he shook Joe’s hand and then kissed Joe’s wife smak dab on the lips??? What kind of person is he? You don’t do that on National Television!! In fact, you don’t do that at all. A kiss on the cheek is ok, but not the mouth of your running mates wife!! Obama has no morals!!
John De your comment is proof you did not read his speech. He laid out exactly what his policys are
OBAMA is the clear choice- tax the rich, grow jobs domestically, and end a senseless and expensive war– all sounds good to me
Last night Obama spoke with confidence in God, himself and his country. He defined who he is. “It’s not about me, he said…. it’s about YOU.”
It reminded me of Ronald Reagan’s speech when he spoke at the RNC in 1980 (28 years ago). Reagan was all about “change” (from the Carter era) and that Reagan did very well for America. President Clinton rode the coattail of Ronald Reagan’s change; and we all fared well during those years of Republican and Democratic presidents.
As we wander from those 28 years of prosperity in our country …….It’s the Democrats turn to make “change.” This is America…… thank God!
Obama was great it will be so hard for McCain to follow. McCain is not a good speaker. His campaign will keep it short, too many gaffes could come out. Also his bed temper will show. Obama’s night will be in the history books. The people of America are so happy to see that their is some one out there that cares about their issues. Obama is our celebrity!!! We look at him for inspiration. This is what we Independants look for in a leader, not someone who is all for capital gain. Obama/Biden 2008
Kiss it bye bye, democrats !
wow
No Obama, no socialism, enough said.
Well of course they haven’t researched Obama. All they need to hear and see is on propagated on the liberal media. How can they say no when he promises the sorts of things that he does when his history (or lack thereof) clearly shows otherwise. He’ll raise taxes and everyone will suffer. It will be the worst 4 years of a presidency this nation will have ever seen and hopefully it’ll throw these liberal dogs back to the drawing boards for a good 10 years.
