McCain’s latest ad slams Obama on Iran
SEDONA, AZ — While John McCain meets privately with senior advisers at his northern Arizona retreat, his campaign continues its daily barrage of campaign ads, today slamming Barack Obama on Iran.
The new spot, “Tiny,” released on the same day the DNC is set to focus on the theme of national security, cites comments the Illinois Senator made in Oregon in May downplaying Iran’s threat when compared to that of the former Soviet Union.
“Obama says Iran is a ‘tiny’ country, ‘doesn’t pose a serious threat.’ Terrorism, destroying Israel, those aren’t ’serious threats’?” the narrator in the new ad intones. “Obama — dangerously unprepared to be president.
But the spot takes some liberties with the truth and accuses Obama of downplaying the Iranian threat without noting that the Democrat was comparing Iran to America’s Cold War rival.
Obama’s original May 18th comment:
“Strong countries and strong Presidents talk to their adversaries. That’s what Kennedy did with Khrushchev. That’s what Reagan did with Gorbachev. That’s what Nixon did with Mao. I mean think about it. Iran, Cuba, Venezuela — these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don’t pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us. And yet we were willing to talk to the Soviet Union at the time when they were saying we’re going to wipe you off the planet.”
The Obama campaign is calling the ad a distortion of the truth.
“John McCain is distorting Barack Obama’s words to cover up for the fact that it’s the failed Bush-McCain approach to foreign policy and the Bush-McCain war in Iraq that that have strengthened Iran and endangered Israel,” said Obama campaign spokesman Hari Sevugan. “If John McCain was serious about dealing with the threat from Iran, he would join Barack Obama’s bipartisan effort in the Senate to step up sanctions on Iran instead of adopting the same tired, old Bush-Rove playbook.”
The ad is set to air on national cable, in Denver and in select markets in IA, MI, NM, NV, PA, OH, WI and MO according to a campaign aide.

To bad that McBush feels that its necessary to lie. If our children told lies like this we’d send them to their rooms to think about it. But than for McCain, who finished near the bottom of his Naval Academy class, thinking might be to much to ask.
That is basically the essence of Obama-inexperienced,good talking polotician. He’s just a kid with no idea of what is out there waiting to come in. My daughter served in Iraq and Afghanistan and if anyone thinks those people are passive and not a threat then you should go there. My daughter couldn’t even go behind a rock to pee when on a mission with special forces because a bomb could have been there. She peed like the rest of the men, on the side of the truck in the middle of the road! Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Russia, Pakistan and the list goes on is full of CRAZY terrorists and the only one who can and will defend our country and innocent people all around the world is MCCAIN. The dems screwed up when they made Obama their canidate instead of Hillary or Biden. McCain is just beating down Obama with these ads, and even if misconstrued (something the Obama camp is equally guilty of doing) whatever happened to the mantra, “You don’t negotiate with terrorists”
I Don’t know why Obama Doesn’t frame McCain with bomb bomb bomb iran, (most americains aren’t stupid they can picture themselves paying double for their gas bill and energy bill overnight, and I’m sure they can picture themselves as a moving target when travelling abroad after the bombing of iran starts,

Here we go again… McCain using fear tactics to get votes. This the same kind of stuff that got us into the war in Iraq.
Obama’s was clearly making the point that IRAN would be foolish to attack the US. That being said they are no a threat than Iraq was.
Yes, we need to keep an eye on any serious events in the Middle East, but to think IRAN poses a threat to us is riduculous. They do not have a delivery system to carry a weapon to our soil. And do you think Isreal will wait until Iran develops a nuclear weapon before it makes a pre-emptive strike. IRAN like Iraq is simply sabre rattling, so that they do not appear weak to the rest of the Middle East. This is why we never found nuclear weapons in Iraq.
When and if IRAN develpos a nuclear weapon we have the ability to deal effectively with that threat. They have been warned!!!!!

This ad takes Obama’s words so far out of context of what he originally said, its unbelievable. Iran IS “tiny” compared to the old Soviet Union. Iran DOES NOT pose the same threat to America that the old Soviet Union did. It DOES pose a threat to Israel, however what he is saying is that even when the Soviet Union posed a serious threat to the US, we still TALKED to them, we did not just invade them.
This ad really shows how low McCain is getting. Just…wow.
They do want more sanctions against Iran, but are unable to get Russia & China to go along with it. Obama has nothing to do with that idea, its not a new one.
I strongly believe that Obama is not only NOT ready to lead this country but also that the people he uses for advice in all matters are out of the loop and therefore not knowledgeable about the most current intel from the areas. With the problems of Iraq and now Georgia there will be no on the job time and he is not ready. We are at war and need a proven leader -not a novice with “has been” advisors.

I agree with a couple people here. This ad is just pathetic.
His word were COMPLETELY misconstrued. The phrase “compared to the Soviet Union” never makes it into that ad. It’s sad just how low McCain is willing to go.

Obama’s would-be policy of appeasement toward Iran is indeed reckless, and his stated view that Iran is not as serious of a threat to our security as the USSR during the cold war is idiotic. This isn’t a basketball game, there is no way to score the threat Iran poses, but we history tells us a lot. Sometimes a small country or seemingly unimportant events can trigger a much larger conflict.
Japan entered WWII after it lost access to middle eastern oil. If Iran follows through on it threat to close the Straight of Hormuz (through which 40% of the world’s oil passes) with its missiles in retaliation for not being allowed to pursue its nuclear ambitions, another World War– this time with China, N. Korea and India as nuclear armed players– is certainly a possibility. In which case Bush’s Iraq adventure might end up seeming like brilliant military strategy… just a thought.

Iran, according to Zeus, Thor or whatever Obamamama thinks he is, is a small country and not a big deal. Under Obamamama’s naive leadership, we need not worry about dealing with Iran.
Having served ten years in the military, and having essentially republican ideals, I am sad to say that the republican party in general, and the Bush government in particular have soured me from this party. A great party has been taken over by right-wing neocons and blow-hards, that are prepared to lie and spin to maintain power. People like Limbough, Henessey, O’Riley etc in the media, are moving the party into guttersnipes. McCain served his country well, but being captured by the enemy and tortured and brainwashed for several years does not qualify you to be a leader of a country. His turncoat supporter, Liebermann, is prepared to sacrifice all the nation’s people and treasure in support of Israel. A McCain/Liebermann ticket would virtually guarantee an extended stay in Iraq, and possible new wars in Iran and possible Russia. McCain will bring back the draft (which personally I am for) and continue to lead the country by fear, as Bush has for eight years. No-one in their right mind can say that the Bush presidency has been a good one, except for a few right-wing neocons, whose aim is to dominate the middle east because of the oil there. The republican party needs to re-group and bring hard working conservatives to the front, and get rid of the slimy liars that are currently controlling our party. Here’s hoping!
