Hillary Takes To Convention Floor To Nominate Obama

DENVER, CO — In the middle of a roll call vote  on the convention floor in which she received far fewer delegates than she’d won in the primaries, Hillary Clinton called on the convention to suspend the rules and the vote and to nominate Barack Obama by acclamation.

Clinton was expected to cut off the vote, partially to avoid an embarrassingly small delegate total — far smaller than the 1900 delegates she’d received earlier this year. As the states voted one by one, that prediction was borne out. Even Arkansas, Clinton’s adopted home state, delivered a powerful gesture of unity by granting all 47 of its delegates to Obama.

As Obama approached the necessary delegate total, Illinois — which passed on voting when its turn came — took the baton from New Mexico, and subsequently yielded it to New York. Thats when Hillary herself walked onto the floor.

Up to that point, she’d received far less applause than Obama when her name was called, but upon her arrival the delegates in the house erupted in a massive cheer.

Clinton asked the convention’s secretary and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for the rule change, which was quickly granted when every voice in the crowd rose to second the motion — and to say “aye.”

Gaveling quickly after asking for any no’s (there were none), Pelosi proclaimed the motion passed — and shortly thereafter informed the convention that Obama had accepted.

I just had my name removed from all Dem lists.
The reason is plain. Michigan voters were closed out. Obama took his name off by choice.
He didn’t win here anyway.
But the fact is Obama and the DNC turned it’s back on us.
And Michigan who could have shown some spine and just passed and show RESPECT for the voters cut out here.
As this was a done deal long ago. And would hurt nothing.
Instead the jellyfish not only cast votes. But cast votes for a man who didn’t want them. Did not earn them.
Some one has to stand up.
I am putting a MCcain sticker reight under my Kerry one on my car.
Michigan Dem Party. You not only lost my respect . But you lost my vote.

Now all you followers can’t blame Hillary nor Bill when Obama loses! I’m sick of this DNC as a democrat I find this “floor vote” a joke! they made sure Hillary wouldn’t win before they allowed it! Why do all you followers whine about the Clintons? Shouldn’t Obama being winning you over not Hillary or Bill?

OMG talk about a socialistic party I can not believe I was in it. The DNC is blaming republicans for the problems we r in… Are you serious? Do you not know the president doesn’t make the bills and may I point out the Democrats have been in majority in both houses for 2 years and done nothing! While we lose our homes, oil prices jump, health care costs spike, jobs are lost. the democrats passing only two yes I said 2 bills this year! they are sitting on their hands making us suffer so they gain control of the whitehouse.

BTW Bill Clinton talked about how good things were when he was president he forgets to add the republicans had majority. so what does that tell you?

Obama thinks himself the Messiah. Watch and see if when he gives his acceptance speech if he doesn’t have what appears to be a church or the whitehouse around him.

I am still deeply disappointed that Hillary Clinton is not our nominee. I am disappointed in how the DNC and Obama has treated her. I DO believe that Obama played the race card on President Clinton and that helped him win the primary. I DO believe that Obama has some very questionable friends and has done some questionable things in Chicago for and with those friends. I DO not care what color he is, that has nothing to do with character or knowledge or the experience to run this great country. I DO have doubts about all three of those things with Obama. I KNOW Clinton had those things. I HAVE done my research on both of them. I AM a Dem voting for McCain this year. I WISH I could blindly follow Clinton’s lead by endorsing Obama but I am not one who blindly follows anyone. They may have had many of the same desires and policies for our country but I DO believe Clinton could have delivered whereas I don’t think Obama can. I am not crazy about McCain but feel he is the lesser of two evils. If McCain was 100% behind Bush then I could not vote for him but I think the two disagree on many things. I will be doing my research on him now. Time will tell. Whatever I hope our country prospers and that the poor get the help they need.

Political theater is ugly. This was a ugly election and the one running the negative campaign, disrespectful in so many ways was Barack Obama. This is not force to respect, this is shameful and 352 superdelegates were wrong to reward him for it. Not only reward him with their vote, but hiding his loses, dripping endorsements on key moments and worst of all bending the rules to suit Obama.

to be honest(by the way i didn’t read the article)i never met either of them nor trust either of them.we’ll just play it by day see their policies and hopefully they actually go through with their policies hopefully power doesn’t go to their head and they stick by their word and dedication to change this country for the better.and yea i said that.

The entire Convention was a “show” and a complete mockery of Democracy. All words “precisely” timed and monitored… The Democratic Party of FDR is gone. I only hope that we can find our way back to that kind of passion. Maybe for starters, leave the MEDIA out. They helped to select this candidate. Secondly, if we as “Democrats” are offended by the actions that our party has taken, we need to not “whine” about it but rather take action. “We” saw who orchestrated this fiasco; Dean, Pillosi, Reid, Brazille. “We” need to introduce them to “Change” to believe in, as they lose in any future attempts for reelections. I humbly step out of the dNC (undemocratic) line and now stand behind Senator John McCain for POTUS. Hillary 2012!!

Sorry keep the “Change”. McCain 08/Hillary 2012.

I have just seen in the washington times this little story ..

Pennsylvania’s former deputy attorney general and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton supporter Philip J. Berg has filed a lawsuit in federal court in Pennsylvania accusing presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama of lying about his U.S. citizenship, which would make him ineligible to be president.

Mr. Berg is one of a faction of Clinton supporters who haven’t heeded the party’s call for unity, filing the suit just days before the opening of the Democratic National Convention, which will nominate Mr. Obama as the party’s presidential candidate.

The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia last week, also names the Democratic National Committee and the Federal Election Commission and says Mr. Obama´s mother went to Kenya late in her pregnancy and ended up giving birth there. It also claims that later in life, Mr. Obama declared himself a citizen of Indonesia.

I find that quite interesting to say the least. All I can say is McCain is the man to be elected in Nov. Just cos he is a republican dont make him another Bush.

Hi GMI: Just a short response for your keen observation and reluctant feeling about
this coming general elections.
I agree with you 100% of the theory of “the lesser of two evils”, because it looks that we just don’t have another choice, yet we can play a bit safe for us.
In addition, I feel that if we are going to have a CHANGE, a real one for better, John McCain will be much, much more qualified and experienced than Obama to do
the real things for change. He will definitely make all possible efforts to avoid the similar mistakes which W. Bush made during past years, so that there is no way he
could be the “third terms of Bush” in the White House. I believe he will win this time, because there are still enough times letting most of the Obama’s followers wake up and see much clearer on their idol, which practically this guy is hollow and shallow both outward and inward with only a big mouth!
Have good one.
God bless America!

Folks, Please Stop obsessing over perceived slights to the Clintons!

Your identifying so strongly with them it is getting a bit creepy…..next you’ll be stalking and sending threatening letters to anyone who speaks for or votes for Obama…………hmmmm….on the other hand if that can happen without any criminal acts being committed, maybe that’s OK. It will keep you from writing these petty, silly, over-reactive and emotionally-wrought posts trashing Obama, the DNC and everyone who intends to move this country forward in the quest to win the fall election.

Get over it, get on with your life (if you have one), …….and suck it up and think about what kind of Supreme Court we will have if John McCain appoints the next member(s) during his term.

There is NO (and never has been )perfect Presidential candidate….Hillary Clinton would have been utterly destroyed by Rove/McCain, the RNC, her husband’s business history and White House antics, and the continuing terrible financial management of her campaign. I admire the woman’s policies, but NOT her politics.

She will be a great, great Senator, and that is where she can (and hopefully will)become legendary. With Ted Kennedy’s diminishing role, she has an opportunity to step into the spotlight, and put forth many of her policies and ideas without the criticism and glare of the blood-thirsty RNC. But this can only happen for her if there is a Democratic President and Congress.

This entire convention was a sham. Dean and Pelosi must have some strange desire to see an 1959 Caddy up on blocks in front of the White House or something.

Even though I disagree with Hillary’s ideology I do believe she is vastly prepared to be President compared to Obama. I believe she loves this country unlike Obama who has vastly different views on reality then all except the most radical and views our great country as being flawed to the core. Has this party lost their mind???? What happened to the Democratic party? Why have they moved so far from mainstream?

You can see that a lot of McCain followers are just like him, no education. In Greece the Democracy was first formed, that is the reason for the design of the stage. It’s not a churh like McCain suggeted. McCain is not even liked by fellow Veterans, this because his lack of support towards them. He only voyes to give them less, while he married his lover to have 7 houses and money. he so against women rights its scarry. I do not trust this man if even his fellow Republicans say he is not to be trusted. They are not even going to the Convention. how can a man like this be President. THANKS, BUT NO THANKS! Obama/Biden 08

You are SO RIGHT, the Democrates in both the Houses made all the calls and that is the people who are running the show.
If not for them we would have a better economy.

good morning Iraq:

Why do you think that John McCain will differ substantially from Bush’s policies at all? Clinton and Obama share most of the same policies; if you agree with her, you will have to agree with him. Yes, Obama can get things done because he will have majorities in both houses and both Clinton and others kicking butt for him in Congress. John McCain isn’t the lesser of two evils, the group that has surrounded him is just pure evil.

Comment by k

How will the poor get the help they need if McCain is president. I don’t what the turmoil is over. You have a chance to make history or make doom. If you are an american, who does not make more than 100,000 a year, you should be voting for Obama. This illusion that you Republicans have something in common with Bush, his administration, and his rich lackeys - like McCain, is insane to me. What is wrong with you people?

THE CLINTON’S STILL HATE THE OBAMAS AND YOU CAN BET THEY WERE PAID MILLIONS MAYBE A BILLION FOR THIER SERVICES. ALL OF HILLARY’S CAMPAIGN DEBT HAS BEEN PAID OFF AND BILL CLINTON IS LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK THIS MORNING! LOL

I watched as Senator Clinton announced her vote for Obama. Delecates around her begain to boo. I thought, “What are we back in the fifth grade again!” Senator Clinton is mature enough to move on. Just a few months ago these same people believed that Senator Clinton was intelligent enough to lead our country, and she is, but why are they now doubting her judgement. She is backing Obama. Value her opinion if your value who she is. She has lost the nomination. Let’s move on!

I work with all the politicians who back Obama……God help us all if he wins.

Obama is a FAKE and a FRAUD.

Lies run sprints, but the truth runs a marathon. The truth about Obama will come out. Obama is an actor reading his lines.

I to believe that Obama is a liar and a fraud, but with time all will surface. He and the media are to blame for Hillary’s loss. Obama also didn’t have the odesity to give her the VP position knowing perfectly well that with her there would be no questioning in him winning the presidential nomination. I am glad in a way that he didn’t as when he messes up then the Clintons won’t be blamed for it like they have been throughout this last 18 months. I AM NOT VOTING FOR OBAMA, I WILL BE PUTTING HILLARY’S NAME ON THE BALLOT AND VOTING FOR HER.

Comment by Hillary Clinton

HILLARY AND OBAMA ARE TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE! OBAMA WILL TAKE US TO SOCIALISM BUT HILLARY WON’T ! OBAMA BIN BIDEN ARE BOTH TO FAR LEFT AND DANGEROUS!

HILLARY VOTERS SHOULD STICK TO THEIR DREAM AND VOTE FOR MCCAIN AND HILLARY COMES BACK IN 2012.

MCCAIN IS DIFFER FROM BUSH!! WE KNOW THAT SO BIDEN IS JUST FAKE POLITICIAN AND HE NEVER HAVE EXPERIENCE IN ECONOMY BY NEVER WORK IN THE COMPANY JUST LIKE YOU AND ME.
HE NEVER EXPERIENCED IN THE MILITARY SO THEY BOTH DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO.
OBAMA NEVER BE A COMMANDER AND CHIEF YES, BIDEN SAID SO BECAUSE HE WAS THINKING TO RUN FOR THE PRESIDENT IN 2012 OR HE THINKS SOME CALUCULATION.

VOTE FOR MCCAIN!!

Get over it Lynne - the bitterness is strong in you. If you want to base the next 4 to 8 years of your future (who knows if you have kids, grandkids, nieces or nephews, dogs or whatever), on personal scorn, than so be it! Although politics is mostly about personality, there are these strange things called ‘issues’ that surround the political world, and usually Dems have similar stances on varying issues. Though the Michigan/Florida issue was a nasty debacle, it happened, and I don’t think Hillary would have won either way.

I only hope you’re going to vent your frustration by staying home in general, as opposed to voting for another party who doesn’t deal with the issues the same way.

For future elections, I recomend that caucusis, deligates, and super deligates be eliminated completely from our election process. The party nominee should be chosen by the people (all of the people), not the easily enfluenced, buyable, and bribable handfull of people that obviously do not vote for the people of their states (deligates and super deligates). Who chose these people anyway? And who monitors them durring the process to be sure they are on the up and up, and not succeptable to a bribe? Palosi, and Dean got exactly who they wanted. Someone new and inexperienced. Now they can wrap him around their little fingers.
The nominee choice should be made by how all the people vote. Either at the convention, or simply let everyone run all the way through to the general election.

My image of our election process is no different than third world country’s. They use guns and violence to enfluence election results, and we here in America, use money and favors to influence election results.

So much for American freedom!

I cannot tell you how disappointed with what I have seen so far in this convention. I cannot remember if I have ever seen so much hypocrisy and lack of loyalty. It started with the end of the primary, when Sen. Clinton’s delegates started abandoning her, friends are suppose to stick with you to the end as long as you are above board. I don’t even know where to start talking about the “POLLING” it was obviously prearranged, California. 441 votes that would have given Sen. Clinton the boost she needed PASSES give me a break. I had been a Democrat ever since I could vote, but when I saw what was going on early I switch my affiliation to Independent, after seeing this 1-120 million-dollar SHOW I am convinced I made the right decision.
I am sure that once the spectacle is over I will be even more convinced that I have made the right decision to vote for Sen. McCain. We have so many people in America hurting and he’s wasting money on this nonsense, with columns and fireworks, this is a disgrace to the memory of Dr. King, I would not imagine that he would even allowed his people to put on such a spectacle. It hurts me as a black woman to see a black man reach a level to have the possibility to become the president of this united states and handle it so shamefully.
We do not need any more rock star types we have enough of them already, they end up in some of the worst scandals.
It is just unbelievable what I seen, I am VERY disappointed.

Excuse me but only the DNC has super delegates. The RNC does not. The RNC has not stooped to rigging the primaries so their choice wins yet. The DNC started the super delegates, whom they hand pick, so the people could not choose a candidate they do not approve of as the people did in 1968. So basicly the DNC said that it did not care what the people wants it cares about what they want. Take a look at Pelosi with her “screw you” attitute towards the majority of Americans who want to drill here and now. As she so ele ganly put it to some protesters, “I’ll drill your heads”, and the fact that both Pelosi and Ried have blocked all major bills but did pass national “Day of the Cowboy “, wonder why? And then you have the all important, “National plumbers week”, and let us not forget, “Frank Sinatra” , and then they really worked on naming government building and land, but not one of the 12 remaining appropreation bills. They want a majority of dems in and a dem president so they can spend more pork and waste more trillions of dallors as they are now.
