Delegate Diaries: Democratic Convention

Hillary Releases; Delegates Resist

By John P. Flannery, Virginia delegate

At 1:45 pm this afternoon in Denver, before an assembly of her elected delegates, alternates, friends and staff, Senator Hillary Clinton announced “I’m now releasing you delegates.”

The hundreds present shouted, “No.”

Another said, “Don’t do it.”

Hillary explained that she was releasing her delegates and left to each delegate to vote his or her conscience, and to allow for anyone who was bound by those back home to vote for her if that’s what they had to do.

Hillary made it clear, however, after the vote, that she expected everyone to support vigorously the nominee, Senator Barack Obama, as that’s what she had already done, and planned to do.

There were various reactions but, in the category of moving on, one delegate summed up what a lot of others had to say, “All I want from Obama Thursday night is what he really stands for, and ‘hope’ and ‘change’ is not enough. I can’t buy a pig in a poke. I want him to give a speech like Hillary did and tell us what he stands for and I want to know the specifics. So that’s why I’m looking forward to Thursday’s speech. I’m pulling for him to deliver. But he’s got to deliver.”

Michigan spineless jellyfish that could not just pass and so some respect for the voters here.
You had a fixed deal so there was no need.
He passed us by and repeatedly shut us out. He did not even win here.
But you choose to reward him for no reason.
I wiil go elsewhere. And merely because you showed me you don’t care.

Now all you followers can’t blame Hillary nor Bill when Obama loses! I’m sick of this DNC as a democrat I find this “floor vote” a joke! they made sure Hillary wouldn’t win before they allowed it!

Why do all you followers whine about the Clintons? Shouldn’t Obama being winning you over not Hillary or Bill?

OMG talk about a socialistic party I can not believe I was in it. The DNC is blaming republicans for the problems we r in… Are you serious? Do you not know the president doesn’t make the bills and may I point out the Democrats have been in majority in both houses for 2 years and done nothing! While we lose our homes, oil prices jump, health care costs spike, jobs are lost. the democrats passing only two yes I said 2 bills this year! they are sitting on their hands making us suffer so they gain control of the whitehouse.

BTW Bill Clinton talked about how good things were when he was president he forgets to add the republicans had majority. so what does that tell you?

No way, No How ,No Obamanation

Michelle tries to act like they are middle class. I have one question how many of us middle class make a salary from a board of hospitals for well over 300,000.00 a year? please, talk about hypocrites. After all how many of us with only two kids have a mini mansion? And they throw stones at McCains? Who one of them happens to have been born rich due to her Grandfather making his dream come true? now it is a sin to achieve the “American Dream”?

Comment by Ralph

The liberal media is falling all over themselves in saying how unified the democratic party is now that Bill and Hill made speeches endorsing Obama. Did they really think they would’nt ? It is what the Clintons do behind the scenes that will damage Obama. Does anyone really think Hillary wants to wait possibly 8 years to become president? I don’t think so. Bill and Hill accomplished one thing the last two nights and that was doing their part for the party. Then when it is Hillarys turn again they will owe her big time. Howard Dean will be history and the Clintons will once again own the democratic party. As for now Mccain is sitting in the drivers seat and will probably win the election by a wide margin comes November.

Good riddance. These mousy followers act like Hillary is really smart or really strong(?) Why all the glass ceiling garbage? She’s had a privileged life, decked a few guys & gals…..so she hasn’t been getting anyone’s doormat in her professional life(?). She had self-inflicted marriage to Bubba, but SHE choose to take that abuse for potential power. HEY DEMO’s - REGURGITATED socialism DOESN’T WORK & fake sob stories get REAL old.

Comment by ShowMeSt

GOOD RIDDANCE, take Bubba with you - he can rake some cash in yapping his trap. Demo’s fake SOB stories get real old, Obhamas even used the WRONG military rank in one of his whiney stories. People are MUCH tougher & much more competent if government would get the heck out and stay out of our lives. Give social security back, free competitive market for healthcare & talk radio too, let market dictate. When I see these huge American cities that used to be beautiful and prosperous and now total decay run by DEMOCRATS for DECADES. that shows you all you need to know to vote. All their BS, litany of accomplishments, what a FAIRYTALE by both Clintonistas and SanFranNan.

Hillary Clintons speech yesterday showed us why she should be the nominee. I am waiting to see what Obama says Thursday. I can’t see him showing that he has the knowledge and experience that she has on the issues or the backbone. I am afraid I may be voting for McCain no matter what the Clintons say. It has nothing to do with Obamas color but has a lot to do with having listened to him stumble and stammer without his teleprompter. He’s a very smart man and is learning a lot but I think I want my President to know and not have to learn on the go.

In the best interest of the future of this nation and the people, tho only logical vote is for McCain.

This is exactly why most men believe women are incapable of governing. Hillary supporters have lost site of what this election is all about and it’s not about the Clintons. It’s about Americas future and most of Hillary’s supporters will doom thier own lives because they are bitter. That is the very thing most men believe about women and that is what the GOP is counting on. GOP is anti- women but they know that most women are not rational. Making decisions based on pure emotions is not rational and voting for McCain over Obama is against women best interest. I’m a Obama supporter but I was pulling for Hillary but she lost. It’s just that simple, she lost and Obama is a great option. If Hillary won I would have voted for her because I want a better future for America. I will not be surprised by Hillary supporters because it’s who they are. Once you make that choice, live with the fall out and do not complain. You will anyway because it would be rational not to do so. I get it.

On Aug 26 the right to vote was win for all females many years ago, but on Aug 27 there lost that right. By leting others take that away. Now are we have to have to do is say yes the loudest.

Who do we really went to be the head?

It is your vote keep it alive.

Comment by honky

For Clinton supporters now planning to vote for McCain - idiots. Put your country before your dented ego. That’s what Hillary did. You win no points for being able to say at the dinner table “I didn’t vote for the Democrats because they screwed me”. Just sit back and enjoy another four years of Republicans not giving a toss about you.

How bad does it actually have to get in America before being snap out of stupidity and actually vote with their brains?

Comment by Linda Baker

I was reading this from the washington times and found it very interesting to say the least. Here is part of what I read.

Pennsylvania’s former deputy attorney general and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton supporter Philip J. Berg has filed a lawsuit in federal court in Pennsylvania accusing presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama of lying about his U.S. citizenship, which would make him ineligible to be president.

Mr. Berg is one of a faction of Clinton supporters who haven’t heeded the party’s call for unity, filing the suit just days before the opening of the Democratic National Convention, which will nominate Mr. Obama as the party’s presidential candidate.

The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia last week, also names the Democratic National Committee and the Federal Election Commission and says Mr. Obama´s mother went to Kenya late in her pregnancy and ended up giving birth there. It also claims that later in life, Mr. Obama declared himself a citizen of Indonesia.

Well, goes to show you something is not right in Denmark.

My vote will go to McCain. He may be a republican but he is not Bush he is his own person.

I am less than fully satisfied with McCain as a candidate, but he will get my vote. However, I do hope that all the democrats who listen, entranced, to what will probably be a most eloquent speech by obama tonight, will remember that he’s great with a teleprompter, but when there’s no prompting going on, he’s a bumbling egghead who happens to have a little charisma. I can’t wait until the presidential debates come around. It’s in that venue that experience and knowledge will be revealed.

Comment by Michael from Atlanta

McCain’s only hope was for the Clintons to divided the Democratic Party.

BUT IT DID NOT HAPPEN!!!!!

All of the Democratic critics have seen the light.

Obama is a liar! here is a prime example of Biden and his family.

Biden lied several times to get sympathy in saying the truck driver that hit his first wife and daughter was drunk ( which destroyed the mans life and family) which was proven not true. (sound familiar?) Obama lied numerous times in his book about his own family.

Biden steals other people words and takes credit. (sound familiar?)

Biden “other son” funny he wasn’t there wonder why? here is why. Aug. 24 (Bloomberg) — Barack Obama’s speech announcing his running mate Joe Biden singled out the Delaware senator’s son who is headed for Iraq. Obama didn’t mention the profession of Biden’s other son, who lobbied for two drug companies and five universities.

Hunter Biden, 38, described as a lawyer in the biography of his father distributed yesterday by the Obama campaign, lobbied for clients that paid his firm at least $380,000 in the first six months of this year, federal records show. He also consulted for credit card companies to make it harder for the struggling middle class to declare bankruptcy and so happens his daddy (Biden) voted on the bill. ( sound familiar?) Obama voted for big tax cuts for the oils companies in that bill he brags about the “energy bill” but charges McCain voted against? Thank God we need a person to stop spending our money on BS.

Obama’s wife got big raise 61% raise after the hospital where she sat on the board got earmarks from government. Right no special interest here, lol.

Biden is racists and a sexist. More recently, Biden raised eyebrows as a presidential candidate running in 2008, telling an Indian-American, “In Delaware the largest growth in population is Indian-Americans, you cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.” Sound familiar?) yeah Wright,Moss, and so on.

Obama claims he voted against the war and Bush? well if you look it up when his vote did count he cast it with Bush even when Hillary and McCain opposed them.

Obama says no more tax on the middle class but plans to spend trillions more of tax dollars and health care, bailouts for home owners, alternative energy grants, rebuilding our roads bridges , give more money to welfare, scholarships, earmarks and so on how will he pay for all this we are struggling now to stay above water. So if you think he will not raise taxes on everyone you need to wake up.

I think McCain has a point it is time to say no more wasteful spending and make our elected representatives responsible to control the budget.

What gets me is everyone blames Bush for our economy but he does not make the bills the houses do and they are ran by Democrats we need to realize that the Comment by signs
August 27th, 2008 at 9:52 pm has a point about the greatness we were in when Clinton was president the Republicans had control of the houses.

_____________________________________________________________

Hillary supporters over 300 of them got the required signatures needed and when Obama’s camp seen that, they sent their own people out to get signatures for they knew it would look bad.

What happened is people looked up the laws of the DNC and found out the DNC was doing illegal by not following their own rules that if no winner by delegates (not superdelegates) there must be a floor vote but don’t worry they only allowed it after they made sure Obama would win.

Obama and the DNC spent millions on buying votes look at NM delegate, his cause got the 20,000,000,. it wanted paid for by Obama and the DNC.

Democracy at its best,lmao.

After all Nancy Pelosi told protesters who wanted to drill here that they needed their heads drilled, that is how the DNC reacts to us average folks, lmao.

For all those who “don’t like either candidate”-Obama nor McCain, what are your bottom lines? Look at what Obama stands for, and what he can’t even openly admit are HIS political bottom lines, for fear he’ll alienate all but the most extreme liberal voters, and consider that a vote for a third party candidate or no vote at all IS A VOTE FOR OBAMA.

There is no time for selfish pride in voting in this election. The future of freedom in this country is in jeopardy.

Appreciate the above comments about get real about Clintons’ maneuvering both now and for the future and about the talking out of both sides of the mouth on the part of wealthy Dems seeking power. It is the Congress that runs the country ultimately. The President is there to defend the country, not run it.

Thank God for His mercy.

The majority of the american people should not be allowed to vote. You’re idiots!!! You don’t wanna vote for Obama cuz you don’t know him. He’s inexperienced. You don’t want him to learn on the job. Are you talking about Obama or George Bush?? It’s idiots like you (dems & repubs) that have lallowed a tard like GW to stay in office for 8 years!! OK Kerry was a little soft but Gore shoulda won back in 2000.
NOTHING prepares you for the job of being the president of the united states of america!! It’s all on the job training (unless you get elected for a 2nd term. by then you should know what you’re doing). Ask any football player coming out of college into the pros. They all say its not the same the college game & its a lot faster.
So what do you wanna know about Obama that you absolutely need to know?? Google it!! Go to wikipedia!! Get off this I don’t know him load of BS!! A lot of you thought you knew GW & you see where that got you.
Tell me this…..what does McCain stand for?? I’m talking about his own policies not the regurgitated stuff from GW. All i know is he’s a vet. He was a POW 40 years ago. Disagree with McCain, he comes back with I’m a vet. Talk about his homes, he comes back with I was a POW & i didn’t have a kitchen table for 5 years. (what about al the years BEFORE & AFTER you were a POW?? Did you have a table then??) McCain used to be a respectable dude but now he’s just a feeble old geezer without a thought of his own.
For all you snobby, sore loser turncoat Clinton supporters (you know who you are) go ahead & vote for McCain or not at all. If you do, you can’t complain about the direction your country takes when we get into 2 more wars. Don’t regret your vote 2 years down the road when George Bush Jr Jr (should i have just said GW clone) isn’t quite the leader you thought he would be.

Knowledge Reigns Supreme!!! OBAMA 08!!!

Obama’s going to give a very measured speech today, citing the anniversary of the “I Have A Dream” speech. Then he’ll talk about change … change … some more change … then confetti in the form of change (ie. coins) will be dropped from an airship over the stadium … then we’ll hear more change … he’ll offer to give someone change out of his pocket … everyone will cheer and that’ll be it.

The heavy lifting is for Biden. Hillary is for disgruntled support. The rest of the Dems are just hoping he gets in so they have total control.

Watch some of Bill Clinton’s Speech from yesterday

I am glad that the vast majority of the Hillary supporters are voting for Barack. They understand that four more years of tax breaks for the wealthy, foreign policy bluster, and inaccessible healthcare are unacceptable. Those Hillary supporters who say they are voting for McCain were most likely the soccer/security moms who voted for Bush in 2000/2004. I’m just sayin’…….

If republicans are going to pose as democrats here (signs? are you serious) at least try and pretend to be democrats.

this isnt some backwood republican idiot-fest where mobile home voters like tax cuts for Wall Street because the guy cutting taxes owns a shotgun and hates gays. this is a national forum.

saying your a democrat and defending Bush and blaming 2 years of democratic rule in congress vs 8 years of republican congress with a republcan president is just silly. and crediting the repub congress for clintons economic success is also a tad “republican sounding”.

Now that it IS obvious that deligates do not follow the will of their people, I highly recomend that Deligates, and Superdeligates be removed completely from our election process in future elections.
It is too easy for the DNC to buy/bribe a handfull of people for their votes, but their is no way the DNC can buy/bribe every American! Every Amaricans vote should count durring the primaries. As is now, Deligates votes trump the vote of the people! Just not right! And this is suppose to be AMERICA?

Robin you didn’t miss anything. Obama hasn’t accomplished anything. He is a creation of the left wing media and the elites in this country. The media and move on. org types have portrayed him as the agent of change. All the hype and hoopla and no substance. He is more like a wolf in sheeps clothing. America wake up. Obama isn’t about change for the betterment of this country he is about more government control of our lives and that is something we don’t need. Think about government run programs that are failures, social security is going down the tubes , medicare , veterans administration and on and on. The Senate couldn’t even run the cafeteria in the senate building. Every year they lost over 1 million dollars. Finally they agreed to privatize it. So this is the same group that wants to manage our healthcare. Are they kidding?

Comment by Greg Janney

Hello K.R.S. and TRE TRE (and other “blind” followers of the charismatic, but unproven Dem nominee) - You should practice what you preach. Google John McCain and you will find that he IS a maverick, and the majority of his senate bills or votes have been against the Republican Party’s “line.”

McCain proposed legislation for the successful “surge” in Iraq two years before Bush approved it (I’ve been to Iraq TWICE as an independent photojournalist, in Jan ‘07 and 3 weeks in Mar ‘08, and the “surge” HAS and IS working!); proposed a unique new plan for energy independence to include domestic drilling and alternative sources of energy; voted against the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy; proposed balanced budget amendment(s) two years before the DEMS gained control of Congress; proposed landmark Ethics rule changes that neither the REPUBs or DEMs liked; proposed new immigration law changes that were humane, but neither party liked…McCain is NOT THE SAME as GW! Check his voting record, and the legislation he’s sponsored.

Get off the “Change for change’s sake bandwagon”, and practice what you preach!!! Google John McCain’s record - He is NOT another GW! He’s been proposing change for years, co-sponsoring major legislation with both Democrats and Independents, including Sen. J. Lieberman.

I see BO as a talented orator (IF he has a teleprompter), but he is a FRESHMAN U.S. Senator (who’s missed most of the Senate votes and roll calls while campaigning for President), who has no public record of any meaningful political accomplishment. I want a leader who has a LEAST had YEARS of experience to lead our country, NOT a few months as a U.S. Senator.

To all the Hillary Supporters ready to work to elect the Democratic Party nominee as President, I say a job well done. American Democracy has benefitted from the drawn out debate but its time to move on. For those Hillary supporters who are threatening to vote to McCain, I wish you all the best. I can only hope that we all remember not to cut off your nose just to spite your face or however that is supposed to go. McCain is representing a party that has totally lost its way in terms of its ideologies and ideals of governing. A vote for McCain is a vote for an increase in the deficit and I promise you. What the Democrats have taught us (if only through Bill Clinton) is that the more people are motivated, the more they work to make the economy better.
Go Bob Barr

A sad situation to be in if you’re a staunch Democrat. Somewhat like being between a rock and a hard place. It’s difficult to imagine a “worse than Carter/Mondale” ticket but the party managed to do it somehow. Most patriots would know how to counter this fluke but others are either too wealthy to care or too ignorant to know the difference.

Experience - I see that word quite a bit in these posts. Well, look at who Senator McCain picked for his VP. A person younger than Obama, 1st term governor of a small state. Talk about experience.

What EXPERIENCE does she bring to the table? What foreign policy does she bring to the table? What knowledge of Federal government does she bring to the table?

I’ll concede that on all the other conservative Republican checks she has, but after that?? But is she ready to lead (as you Republicans always state)?

As an outsider looking in, I’m a little baffled by this pick. At this point, it is hard for me to see her going against Joe Biden in the VP debates.

To me, this is strategic move to offset what the Dems are doing. This is purely to try and get those Hillary voters who are not going with Obama. Guess what - you may have had those already.

Comment by Richard Rheiner

Obama and his woman will do anything or say anything that might get him (them) elected. He is thin-skinned and thick-headed. He is the consummate chameleon. He associates with anti-Semites like Farrakhan and Wright and then says don’t judge me by the company I keep.
May God protect this nation from the likes of him and Jimmie Carter.
