GOP Votes to Support the Move of the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem
MINNEAPOLIS–
GOP members writing their platform today voted to support Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel and backed the moving of the Unites States embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Cathie Adams, a delegate from Texas proposed the amendment, which did pass. However, confusion popped up in the committee when delegates said they did not realize they were also voting on the embassy move. The committee voted on whether to open up the floor to re-vote on the amendment, but that failed and the amendment will stay as part of the Republican platform.
These issues have faced both John McCain and Barack Obama throughout the campaign. McCain supports the relocation and has said that he would move the embassy to Jerusalem on “day one” of his presidency. Barack Obama faced criticism when he originally pledged support for an undivided Jerusalem to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, AIPAC, but then amended his view saying that the status of Israel would need to be negotiated in future peace talks.
Discussion on the Middle East continued when language was added to the platform in the Iraq section, which included a swipe at Barack Obama. The draft read that victory in Iraq is “too critical to our own national security to jeopardize by artificial or politically inspired timetables that do not reflect conditions on the ground or respect the advice of our military commanders.” Republicans voted to add the word essential in front of advice as a hit on Obama and support of McCain’s often repeated hit that Barack Obama did not receive the advice of military commanders before announcing his Iraq policy.

The continued support of Israel by this country is essential! To bless Israel, is to bless America. To curse Israel, is to curse America. The pushing of plans to divide Jerusalem can only bring disaster and needs to be stopped. The more I read of the Republican platform, the more sure I am that John McCain is the man we need in the White House!
This should have done along time ago
pat; that is about the dumbest reason Israel should be defended and supported. by the way did you read that Obama was actually the first to recognise Jerusalem as Undivided?
This is a most welcome policy but it has been the policy of both parties for years. Is there a problem finding property in Jerusalem? I am sure that the Government of Israel will help.
The Republican platoform, combined with the Republican candiadates is just going to blow the Dems out of the water in terms of experience, leadership, and common sense. Barrack Obama will get a slight bump because of his acceptance speech tonight, but he is actually LOSING votes through the first three days of his own convention, a time when you are supposed to make up ground. America sees him for the phony he is, especially when contrasted to a true American Hero, a true bi-partisan worker, and a true leader with experience in John McCain. No way, no how, nObama.
This should have been done a very long time ago. Obama wants to turn his back on Israel he has friends in Hamas and he says that Iran is very small and not a threat. Obama is an idiot.
Another reason why these poeple are to dangerous to lead.
Another reason why these people are too dangerous to lead.Another unilateral decision that does not have the vision to see the dire consequences that are sure to follow.
Never divid Israel and always stand behind her, saids GOD!
I am confused on GOP platform since when did foreign countries issues started to appear on domestic platforms. What a ridiculuous thing to include as a platform issue. It always seemed GOP was anti foreign so why even invoke a foreign platform as if we israel is our 51st state. Oh wait a minute we gotto kiss up to AIPAC.
every politician in the last 20 years has pledged this and none have done it? why does anyone think supporters of israel believe anyone who says this anymore. i remember Dole almost looking embarrassed because he knew he wouldnt do it. just promise it.
This is a great move. Americans must show complete support for Isreal.
Can you idiots in the MSM please stop feeding the garbage about greek columns.
INVESCO STAGE is being built to honor Martin Luther King. I just heard this on the local Denver radio - The stage at Invesco that is being ripped by the GOP is being built to recreate the Lincoln Memorial where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous speech on this day 45 years ago. It is not to make Obama a god, idiots, but to honor those who paved the way. The ignorance is truly breathtaking.
Sometimes what we wish for is not what we get. Sometimes what we wish for can be just what we get ulimately, but at what price? It is only a fool that takes his eyes off the bigger price of solid and lasting peace, for such a material concept as keeping an undivided Jerusalem. Jerusalem means to the Palestinians just as much as it does the Isrealis, and to absolutely take it off the bargaining table, at a point when it could hold the key to lasting peace in the region, shows lack of empathy for the Palestinian plight…And that is cruel.
As a shared and symbolic capital, Jerusalem might just end up being the common bond between Palestine and Isreal; otherwise, it can only perpetuate as the singular wedge between them. I guess, the question is, do you prefer the status quo, and leave your head in the sand, or do you really want to move on.

The problem with the Republican\McCain stance on this issue is that they are picking sides and not even wanting to have talks with Iran, Palastien, they choose not to have peace talks and totally disregaurd the “other side”. By doing this they are inviting another 9/11. Just ask the slaves 200 years ago, or the colonist before that. The more you treat people with disrespect the more likely they will rise up against you. Yes. We could more than likely crush them afterwards, but I don’t think it wise to invite another 9/11. Course McCain might, he had a field day spreading Lies and non truths shortly after 9/11 by stating that the Anthrax “Possibly” came from Iraq, When he knew that there was NO Proof to back up that statement.
To take sides with One Country while showing distaste toward another is not the proper way to show diplomacy. And that is just MORE of the old Politics that got us attacked in the first place.
God breathed Word, the Bible, is our gift
It is imperative that we as a nation, support Israel along the lines of Biblical entreaty such as Genesis 12:3 in order to retain God’s blessing upon our “God given nation”, originally founded on the principles of Biblical persuasion! Dare we abandon those principles at this late date?
