Clinton Releases Delegates, But Says Vote How You Want

DENVER, CO — Hillary Clinton released her delegates today to vote for Barack Obama in tonight’s roll call — but said she’s not telling them to do so.

“It is traditional that we have nominations, that we have a roll call,” Clinton said to thunderous applause from a thousand or so Clinton delegates in a ballroom at the Denver convention center. “That we have candidates who look for ways to work to make sure that we come out of here ready to win in November. “

“As part of that tradition, I’m here today to release you as my delegates,” she continued, prompting shouts of “no!” from die-hard Clinton backers in the room.

But while Clinton said some of her delegates will choose to vote their hearts, or to vote for Senator Obama to demonstrate their commitment to party unity, she isn’t directing them to do either.

“I am not telling you what to do,” Clinton said to cheers. As for her ballot, however, the New York Senator made her intentions plain. “I signed my ballot this morning for Senator Obama,” she said.

Otherwise, while Clinton echoed her calls for unity from last night’s speech, there were moments of wistful remembrance of brighter days on the campaign trail.

“I want you to know that this has been a joy. We didn’t make it, but boy did we have a good time trying,” she said.

“By last count, according to the press and other official sources, I had about 1920 delegates,” Clinton said later. Scanning the crowd, she added “[But] if I’d known I had this many delegates!”

Still, Hillary’s stressed unity in her remarks — even if this event was mostly about her. “We got here by different paths,” she said. “I believe that as Democrats and as Americans, we will leave Denver united.”

As always Senator Clinton once again rises above the tabloid cable news bias opinion, she proves again to be a “CLASS ACT” and a Great American ICON! As her faithful supporter, I understand her position but strongly feel Obama is not ready to lead. We still will not support Obama, not because of Hillary because of Michelle and Barack Obama period…

class act. Can’t wait to vote for her in 2012 after sucking it up and voting for McCain in 2008

Comment by Mary

Have you ever noticed that everything Obama has ever won it has been on a “short” vote…two states short….stop the delegates on the floor…..I wonder if expects to get ahead in the General and call an abrupt end…….Yeah, that’s it! That’ll work! Now that’s a plan! It’s working for him so far!

I have a friend that is posing as a “Hillary Supporter” and saying she (he really) is not voting Obama, but is voting McCain…he sits back and laughs, calling Hillary supporters EASY SHEEP!!

Comment by Mike

No she didn’t …she asked that a vote for her should now be a vote for Obama…quit bating people!

Clintons’ trashing of Obama will not stop there. It’s the best thing those two have ever done for their country.

Mrs. Clinton is doing the right thing in supporting Obama, as he did rightfully win the primaries. You will see many of the frothing, sexist, angry Clinton supporters both ignore the lead she has taken, and tell you any number of lies about the results. But in the end, regardless of how you feel about the primaries, it will be those Clinton supporters who maintain the rift in the Democratic Party. It will be the stubborn Clinton supporters who refuse to look at the issues before us and objectively decide who will be better, McCain or Obama - it will be they who lose the race in November. It will be they who hand us another 4 years of failed Bushisms. It will be they who continue to see this country into ruin.

I am so proud of Hillary. I didn’t vote for her in the primaries but she truly is a class act. It took some courage to present that speech and it was wonderful. I’ve never heard her speak from her heart and soul. She was so very close but she still have plenty of time to still make that dream come true. I truly believe we must move forward in a different direction with a new leader. He has enough experience for me. He can lead the troop just as well as Bush or Clinton. He has as much experience as Bill did and George. Texas govenor has very very little power. He spent more time at the ranch than Austin. He’s an idiot. Our country and Supreme Court made him our president. He has endangered our lives, destroyed our econmy, and we are so deep in red that we may never see black again. The Republicans are deceitful, criminal behavior more than any administration, and they haven’t a clue as to turning things around. Remember we have 2 oil men in the white house and we have gas at 3.85. They are all old idiots and should be sent to thier room and never come out. Vote Obama, give the young guy a chance. He’s smart and will protect us from all harm. Look at those two sweet little girls he will keep them safe. I have no doubt that he is far more qualified than McBush.

I am curious.
Is Obama and his ego able to release his delegates to do what they want and grant power to a woman who has today’s popular vote?

Comment by jade

delegates vote for Hillary, because I certainly will not vote for Obama. Hillary supporter who will now vote for McCain unless Hilly is nominated or runs as an Independent.

Comment by jo nc

i think this voting on floor of the convention for democrats is a sham, and a shame,,obama world would collaspe today if they let the true vote for hillary show,,this election process is rigged and it is not fair to any american that has cast a vote for the person that would be a great president,,hilllary clinton,SHAME ON THE DNC,AND THE COMMITTEE THAT SET ALL AMERICA TO FAIL IF THEY ELECT OBAMA

Comment by Jay Carr

Run, Hillary, run ! ! ! Run as an independent ! ! Joe Lieberman did it and won by running as an independent (he beat both the democrat AND the republcan challenger). Big Joe said, “What, you all don’t like me anymore?” (to the democrats) “Okay, I’ll just run as an independent ! ! ! ” He also is a staunch supporter of McCain’s Iraq war strategy and has always been and STILL won even in liberal Connecticut.

Comment by cindy

This is the biggest sham I have ever seen. I will definitely not vote for Obama now. Hillary was the best choice. McCain wouldn’t have had a chance, but thanks to Hillary’s graciousness for both Obama and McCain, he will have a great chance of beating the heck out of Obama. Hillary has done more for Obama than Obama has done for himself. What more does he want from the woman. Maybe he should get off his fat ass and go and try to get some votes of his own instead of stealing Hilary’s supporters.

Pundit 1:
This is an Obama-sanctioned and reasoned step to help Clinton supporters blow off some steam.

Pundit 2:
No, no, no! It’s that there is still bad blood between Clinton and her former rival, a flame perhaps fanned by her husband.

Pundit 3:
No, you’re both wrong. Each side will believe its own version of whichever of these ideas makes its members feel better about what’s happening.

What a Sad day in American Democracy. I will vote for McCain!

Comment by KC

If you watched the vote the state delegates are pledge delegates and can only cast the votes of the peoples choice of their state, Calf. did not vote, Hillary state, and FL gave their votes to Obama yet they were Hillary’s. Now I call that fair, the DNC voted for the democratic candidate not the people.

McCain 20008

Comment by Burt

foxnews baits you people like the suckers you are… Democrats stop your crying, you are such easily swayed whimps. Vote McCain because he is Strong, a real leader, and dosent cry when things are tough.

The Obama and Biden ticket won’t win a presidential election. The democrats have again put up another weak candidate with no substance.

Have to vote for experience, we don’t have time for on the job training ……Go McCain!!!

Bill Clinton was correct. Dump candidate X and vote for candidate Y, which ain’t Obama. If anything, vote “NO” for president.

How could anyone of Hillary’s supporters vote for McCain. It just not make any sense. Regardless, of who won the primary you support the winner. But to vote for McCain the total opposite to one’s own belief is just not valid. It’s time for all Democrats to unite to rid us of this corrupt regime. An administration under Bush/McCain who not only put our country at war, but destroyed our once prosperous nation. So lets vote together for our future and the future of our kids and of our nation.

Obama only has himself to blame if he loses this election. The Clintons have done more than enough to help him. They couldn’t have been more supportive. They are true Dems. Unfortunately I can not blindly follow them. I do not trust Obama to be able to deliver on his promises like I trusted Hillary. Sometimes it needs someone on the inside to make change, Obama hasn’t been around long enough to be an insider in Congress like Hillary has. I don’t think there is another person alive who knows how Congress and the White House works like Hillary does. But this is a moot point. We are now stuck with Obama who is very intelligent but I just don’t think he has the knowledge needed to get things done. I will be voting for McCain even though I don’t agree with him on a lot of things. If he did not have a record of being against Bush on many issues I don’t think I’d vote at all.

Comment by Victoria

It’s so funny to me how people love to talk about the lack of experience Obama has. Okay, he hasn’t been around long enough or a POW. However, you look back at the HORRIBLE 8 years of Bush… and he has experience and what has he done… manipulated and screwed our economy for his own selfish benefits. Therefore, experience is NOT always of essence. I feel as long as Sen. Obama has the right team to back him up and consult with that this economy WILL get better in due time. Hell, Bush doesn’t know anything, McCain doesn’t know everything, and Obama is “inexperienced” therefore more acceptable of guidance and help from his peers. He is a good leader/decision maker.

OBAMA 08… anything else will NOT help and I will NOT vote for.

& to the stubborn Clinton supporters… who are very stupid to vote McCain b/c they didn’t get their way… that’s fine b/c OBAMA WILL WIN… regardless. I am now a fan of The Clintons again b/c they have showed their dedication to their party spite their personal feelings.

Some 88 yrs., the women have been voting, around 44 yrs., blacks have been able to vote. This country is not old compared to the world, in fact we are the youngest nation in this entire world. We have come a extremely long way compared to countries who brag of their 3000 yr. old status. I say, enough of the sobbing about how long one has been able to vote, go vote and shut up! After all in many of the dictatorships around the world there is NO Vote or worse.

Comment by rick

While it is traditional to have nominations, Hilliary found she was embarassed by the extremely low vote count. She had no choice but to bow out early.

Comment by Jenny J

The voters cast their ballots at the polls based on who they trust, because that is the single most important element in a candidate.

Look at Obummer. He surrounds himself with criminals, can’t answer a question, exercised questionable ethics over the purchase of his mansion, has Associated himself with white and America haters, in his own book claims those people who most influenced him were Communists, Socialists and the Nation of Islam. These associations continue right up to today.

What’s to trust?

For everyone saying how bad Bush is, he has kept your sorry a$$ safe, he has kept his promise to protect your right to freedom of speech (such as your speech is) and you know what you are? a very huge spoiled baby liberal.
You think for a moment BUSH would talk as bad as about Clinton or Obama? I think not!!!!!!! You make this country sound like there is nothing great about it. It has been sad hearing you all saying our country is this bad. WE LIVE IN THE GREATEST GENEROUS COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. Is it so hard to live here? You could relocate to Russia, China, Iran or any other dicatorship country. How does that sound? Then you could keep your big liberal mouths shut. Sounds good to me….

Comment by Superpower

The Clinton’s have ALWAYS done what’s in THEIR best interest…so the “Vote how you want” comment is pretty clear, considering she is supposed to be UNITING voters for her party. It’s never been about the party for the Clintons.

A great Republican ad earlier this week featuring Hillary sopporter Debbie supporting McCain. Perhaps it should have been called “Debbie Does Denver”.

For future elections, I recomend that caucusis, deligates, and super deligates be eliminated completely from our election process. The party nominee should be chosen by the people (all of the people), not the easily enfluenced, buyable, and bribable handfull of people that obviously do not vote for the people of their states (deligates and super deligates). Who chose these people anyway? And who monitors them durring the process to be sure they are on the up and up, and not succeptable to a bribe? Palosi, and Dean got exactly who they wanted. Someone new and inexperienced. Now they can wrap him around their little fingers.
The nominee choice should be made by how all the people vote. Either at the convention, or simply let everyone run all the way through to the general election.

My image of our election process is no different than third world country’s. They use guns and violence to enfluence election results, and we here in America, use money and favors to influence election results.

So much for American freedom
