The 3am Text

In case you missed it…

The text message announcing Obama’s pick for veep was sent out at 3am - a little earlier than planned as the news was quickly leaking out to the media.

Senator Hillary Clinton already weighed in, saying the choice shows Senator Obama “has continued in the best traditions for the Vice Presidency by selecting an exceptionally strong, experienced leader and devoted public servant.”

Read Obama’s Veep finalists reactions to the announcement below the jump.

FROM THE OFFICE OF GOVERNOR TIM KAINE

Gov. Tim Kaine’s office released the following statement this morning on Sen. Barack Obama’s selected running mate:

RICHMOND - Governor Kaine’s statement on the announcement of Senator Joe Biden as Senator Barack Obama’s ticket mate:

“I am very excited that Senator Obama has selected Senator Biden to be his running mate.  Senator Biden is a tremendous leader and a great complement to Senator Obama and his candidacy.  He has worked as a committed public servant, has a proven track record, and understands the complex challenges facing our nation.

“The Obama-Biden ticket provides the United States with a new and meaningful dialogue with world leaders and will improve America’s standing with our allies and the global community.

“As a governor, I know the value of having reliable partners who are willing to tackle tough challenges in Washington. The failed economic policies of the last 8 years have left states across the country struggling with budget shortfalls.  Even here in Virginia, we are facing tough economic times.  An Obama-Biden administration will give me and governors across the country the kind of partnership we need to deliver results for America’s working families.

“While families across America are looking for results and solutions-oriented leaders, Senator John McCain offers more of the same failed policies of the last eight years.  The Obama-Biden ticket offers Americans a clear choice and a real opportunity for change.”

Statement from Senator Bayh on the

Selection of Senator Joe Biden

Washington, DC—Senator Evan Bayh (IN-D) made the following statement today in response to Senator Obama’s selection of Senator Joe Biden to be his running mate:

“Joe Biden is an outstanding public servant with deep experience and a fighting spirit. These qualities will make him a great asset in the White House and on the campaign trail this fall.

“Indiana and America face challenging times. We are a nation at war with an economy on the rocks. In his most important decision to date, Barack Obama demonstrated the judgment to choose a governing partner who is wise and strong and will help him deliver change to a country yearning for it. I enthusiastically support the selection of Senator Biden.

“It was an honor to be considered, and I hope it reflects well on the state of Indiana that a Hoosier was in the running. I am proud to serve in the United States Senate and will continue to work each day to make a difference in the lives of the people of my state.”

I think that Biden is a strong pick after reading some of his views on Religion, War and other American and Foreign Affairs. I see that all news stations are big on advertising Biden’s lack of confidence in Obama during election season, but hey this is an election and everyone is trying to be President! I think that Obama made a wise choice and hopefully these two together can make POSITIVE CHANGE in OUR COUNTRY along with the rest of the WORLD! I Salute Sen. Obama for his valiant efforts and courageness during this election! OBAMA/BIDEN Together WE CAN MAKE A CHANGE!

I think CNN should stop all this negativity about Senator Hillary Clinton
Its done, it getting too much now, this woman dint do anything wrong that run a great campaine against someone that CNN loved so much.

This woman is a great weapon for America and if CNN continue all this negativity, they might regret it.

CNN always have nothing positive about her, and when the only thing that comes out of CNN is negative, then its so clear that it has become personal.

I URGE CNN TO STOP ALL THIS NEGATIVITY AGAINST SENATO CLINTON

THE LASTEST IS “WILL HILARY SNURB OVER OBAMA’S PICK” BY WOLF

For goodness sake she is intelligent and loves this country and i know she will be delighted Obama made a good pick.

There goes his “Hope and Change” narrative. Biden has been in the Senate longer than McCain and has helped break Washington as much as anyone. This VP pick just gave McCain the opportunity to pick whoever he wants. McCain was going to need to pick someone to off-set Obama’s pick if he chose someone exciting and fresh but by choosing another straight-ticket liberal Obama opened the door for McCain to pick Romney and have the far superior ticket.

The Obama campaign is in a pretty nasty slide with the Clinton domination of the DNC, his embarrassing performance at Saddleback and picking an East Coast White guy for veep. If, for some reason, you could make the case to vote for Obama before this month’s series of failings, you can’t possibly have a reason to vote for him now. He has essentially re-created the Kerry/Edwards ticket, but with Edwards on top and Kerry in the second spot.

This should make it easier for Mcain to run against two idiots instead of one. I watched the Clarence Thomas hearings and got a good idea of what a fool Biden is. As a conservative I was hoping he would pick Biden. It is going to be a great pleasure to watch these two bafoons making fools out of themselves.

The Osama Bin Laden ticket?

Oh, excuse me. I meant the Obama Biden ticket? He made a great choice for thoses of us who like to play word association games.

Please just say NO to a socialist America and vote republican.

The VP pick did not make me change my mind , I still WILL NOT VOTE for Obama and Biden

I believe that by sending out this VP pick message at 3:00 am, Obama purposefully intended to tell Hillary and her supporters that they could shove it up their a—s!

Everyone knows the significance of that 3:00 am call that Hillary used throughout her candidacy. This is not coincidental. Hillary’s supporters are getting a taste of Obama’s arrogance.

Obama is proclaiming that the Clinton era is over, and that he is the Messiah now! If I was a Hillary supporter, this final attempt of Obama to throw sand in the sandbox would just be too much to swallow!

It is interesting that everyone missed the reason why Obama used text messaging to get out his VP announcement. So, I will give you an technology social networking theory to consider. First of all, everyone one wanted to know, as a result, even non-Obama supporters. I suspect that there is an ulterior motive here. Obama now has all of those phones to text to throughout the convention and the rest of his campaign. Think about it, he is now connected to everyone that has interest in his campaign for President, negative, neutral, or positive. He will be able to communicate his position, in his words, anytime he wants to. This will be the biggest onslaught on the public’s privacy in American history. John McCain needs to learn the impact of and how to use today’s technology to his advantage if he is to have a hope of connecting to the neutral Gen-X vote.

Comment by donavo

The timing of the text message was a clear slap in the face of the hard core sore looser Hilary supporters.

I think all democrats should come together and make sure we do not have a 3rd Bush term. What I am sick of is all these “women” who claim to be democrats when in reality they were only supporting Hilliary because she is a woman. Hillary could have been a Republican and they would support her..hell she could even be a nazi I believe and they would support her. If you are a true democrat its time to get behind the Obama/Biden ticket! Do you really want someone in office that is so out of touch with mainstream America? The man did not know how many houses he had for pete sake….and he believes that 5 million dollars is rich. This guy is out there……but what is worse is all you people that would actually put someone in the Whitehouse like that…

Wake up People

Obama taking Biden as his vp just made my decision easier in November. Now, I definitely will not vote for Obama!! Obama just proved he has no brain cells when he decided not to put Hillary on the ticket with him. Obama deserves to lose …….

Doesn’t matter who he picks. The 3 AM slap at Hillary was disgraceful and sarcastic. This arrogant fool just proved that he’s all show and NOTHING else. I am a Hillary supporter and this finally make up my mind. I’m voting for McCain.

Obama - Biden great team? Are you kidding me? Biden has got experience yes, but somebody who has been in politics for so long kind of undermines Obama’s promises of change. Especially when CHANGE is what his whole platform is about. Plus, Biden voted pro war and has expressed strong doubts about Obama’s readiness and abilities. You would think such a man wouldn’t slip so comfortably in Barack’s team but I guess ego and power can bring CHANGE…of heart that is!

Comment by william Sprus

Biden is arrogant, and angry, He will fit in with Barack and Michelle Obama!

Obama has proven he can text at 3a.m., create “unifying” controversy as well and keep a “top secret”.

I’m a many decades-long democrat…hillary supporter….and am very disappointed in Obama’s choice. Hillary would have been the right one, she can rock the world and get things done. Too bad Obama’’s ego stood in the way of all those possibilities. I may have to sit this one out for the first time in over 30 years.

Comment by Beverly Arnold

How arrogant can the man get? To send the announcement out at 3:00 in the morning was like sticking a knife and twisting it into every Hillary supporter.
I just can not believe that anyone in their right mind would vote for this arrogant and audacious idiot.

Comment by 3am CALLs ---> BIDEN

Well. There is clearly another reason for the 3am test…that OBAMA is both not capable of responding to a crisis like Georgia at 3am, especially when he is vacationing in Hawaii.

He really prefers to have his phone on CALL FWD MODE to UN or BIDEN …anyone but Barack or Michelle.

Comment by Annette

The 3 am call was the last snub to Hillary and her 18 million voters as far as I am concerned.
This has shown me the childishness of this candidate.
Sounds like the same old stuff to me. Change?

Comment by Jerry G

Mr. Obama had no choice but to elect someone who has more experience than he does…although the field had many choices of people who surpass him in experience. But the key is that Biden will not be in the Oval Office answering the phone call at 3:00 am. And the way it looks now, since Biden did not have too much faith in Obama’s experience anyway, Obama may not be in the White House either.

The race is between a person who has spent two years in the U.S. Senate and comes to the table with lots of baggage and no substance. The other choice, a maverick who has plenty of credentials but may be too radical leaves the choice of who would make a Commander-in-Chief somewhat up to the minds and hearts of each American.

I must say that no matter who is elected, the choice of a leader must deal with, not only the U.S. economy and internal problems, but leaders from China, Russia, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Argentina, Georgia and so many other countries that we may not have a choice but to put in a leader who is strong and defiant, not a weakling who thinks that sitting down at a table to talk about the weather is the solution. We cannot afford to have an experienced leader in the U.S.

We are talking about surviving armeggedon and being tough with our enemies, and we truly have more than we need. It takes a leader to command, not a person who thinks that he is a leader. It is up to our people who will elect such a person. Let’s hope we are intelligent enough to make the right choice. God help us if and when the time comes for our leader to make the smart choice as we do. This is probably the most important election in our time. Vote from your heart.

Response to Texico:

I began researching all of the candidates in the beginning. I have been a Republican my whole life, but as many of you I am ready for change. If you only go by what the cadidates want you to see and know, Obama would have my vote as well.
Through my research (Library of congress), Hillary Clinton has done the most and worked the hardest for the the people. She worked, and still works to help ALL of the people ie, Dems, Reps, Young, Old, and the color of thier skin doesn’t matter. Obama looks great, sounds great, but has done very little in his time in the Senate to help ALL of the people. Obama’s priorities while in the senate was campaigning for the next step up. Yes he did go to senate meetings, and by the way he voted, seems to me he never put much thought in the bills he was voting on. Having to take time from campaigning to go to the senate to place his votes. Less time consuming to simply vote present, so he could get out of there, and get back to working and preparing his campaigns.

I didn’t want another 4 years of Bush, but I also didn’t want to put an man who has done nothing for ALL americans in his short time in the Senate either.

This is why I chose Hillary Clinton. Even if Hillary Clinton were an old black man……….. with all that that person has done for the people since Little Rock, that person would have my vote.

So Texico, no matter how many exuces you come up with as to why people love Hillary Clinton, please don’t put a label on me (and Im sure there are many others out there like me).

As for Obama chosing Biden, I know he really had to chose someone with experience that he does not have, but why someone that is older Washington than McCain! That mixes his CHANGE message up. He said Hillary was Old Washington. What is Biden? Old Washington! Another Flip Flop from what he has been telling the poeple what he stands for!
I give up on Obama.

Comment by Kathryn

Thanks for giving me a day off in November Obama! I just donated another $100 to help Hillary clear her debt that you caused her to have.
Had you picked Hillary, my donation would have gone to your Campaign.
Now, Didn’t you condem Hillary for Voting For The Iraq War? Didn’t you you Condem Hillary for being “Old Washington? Didn’t you Condem Hillary because she is old?
But, you picked Biden????? He is evrything you Condimbed Hillary for being.
Only difference is that Hillary is a Woman!
Mr Obama, why is it that your male camp workers get paid more than your Women camp workers?

Mr Obama, your choice of VP in my eyes is just another Flip Flop. Flip Flopping is the only Experience you have to date!

Mr Obama, how much have the Republicans padded in your pocket to help McCain win? They got their money’s worth! Job well done Mr. Obama. McCain presidency is now in the bag!

Comment by susie

Obama keeps putting salt on the wound by using 3 a.m. for text messaging, He must feel confident enough that he doesn’t need Hillary’s supporters. It feels more like dividing instead of uniting.

Comment by Tom

Real Democrats (like myself and Hilary Clinton) have reason to be happy today! Great choice Obama, I wanted someone else but definitely see the wisdom here. Obama is choosing a VP not just for the win but for his credentials and what he can offer towards 8 years of governing.

Obama/ Biden 08!!

Comment by Catherine Owensby

I would not vote for Obama no matter what John McCain has ever or will ever do. He is the biggest mistake America has made so far…I just hope and pray that come November he will be shown just what America does when it comes time to clean up their mess and right their wrongs.

Comment by Texico

You are so right Tom! And to Kathryn, sorry I guess my wording was wrong. I did not mean to label all Hillary Supporters..but you know the ones that I am talking about. Look, I can’t stand Hillary Clinton but I would vote for her over McCain anyday of the week. And please people; stop talking about all this experience someone has to have to be President. There is no such thing; there is NO JOB in the world that can prepare you for that. Do you really think Bush Jr had that much experience? Umm no…..Was JFK ready at 43? I don’t know, he was one of the greatest Presidents of the 20th century in his three short years. Was Lincoln ready to be President? He had never served in the Military and was not what I would call one of the most educated we have had, but well…you know the story.

Maybe that was a shot at Hillary with the 3:00am thing but if memory serves she stooped to low tactics first during the primary race. Do you people not remember broadcasters saying “Why does Obama not hit back?” Hmmm I think I do!

What was the quote in the movie the Contender: “Greatness is the orphan of urgency, Laine. Greatness only emerges when we need it most… in time of war or calamity. I can’t ask somebody to be a Kennedy or a Lincoln. They were men created by their times. What I… What I can ask for… is the promise of greatness.

To me Obama has the Promise of greatness.

Why do I have the distinct feeling that many of those posing here as Hillary fans really aren’t - and never were…?? Methinks they’re Republicans in sheep’s clothing, for they sound far too aggrieved to be true.

This is a slap in the face of Hillary. 3 am text. He his full of it.

to all Hillary Clinton supporters don’t stay home. Go and vote. And vote for McCain this is the only way to send a massage to the democratic party. Respect the women in the party.

Comment by SM

The Obama campaign has always been disrespectful against the Clintons. I don’t care weather this was intensional or just ignorance but I will now be voting for John McCain. The Democratic party and the Obama campaign has showed too much disrespect for the Clintons and their supporters. McCain has some good issues too and I will go with the team that most represents my own personal values and the one that I trust the most. McCain in 2008! Clinton in 2012!
