Obama Supporters Weigh in on Veepstakes
Since the press is obsessing right now over who Barack Obama will pick as his running mate, I decided to chat with some supporters who came out to attend his Raleigh, North Carolina, town hall meeting about the announcement - widely expected to take place at a planned event in Springfield, Illinois.
I spoke with a handful people - young and old, men and women, white and African American - and all Obama supporters. Of the voters, only one preferred today’s top contender, Senator Joe Biden. Rosemarie Burke, a white-haired woman with a cane said she likes the Delaware senator because he adds experience.
The others all had other suggestions. Colin Powell, Kathleen Sebelius, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, and NC Governor Mike Easley were their top choices.
Mary Ellin Eiselv expressed concern over an Obama-Biden ticket. “The young people Obama seems to be reaching out to are such a visually oriented generation they might say, ‘Who?’” Biden, she said, is relatively unknown and might not generate the excitement that has carried Obama to his place as presumptive Democratic nominee.
Demaris Mial, a 20-something Obama fan, admitted not knowing too much about the Delaware senator. “I wouldn’t have a reaction,” she replied when asked about Biden. She added, “I would just appreciate that’s who he chose and I’m still for Obama, so it doesn’t really matter.”
36-year-old Tony Booe agreed. “It’s not going to change anything for me. As long as he wins, I don’t care who it is - Hillary, Biden, Bayh,” he said.
With all the speculation one wonders if the voting public is sick of press and pundits’ musings. One supporter laughed and admitted she hasn’t even been paying attention. “I’ve been watching the Olympics!”

ROMNEY FOR VP for McCAIN!!!!! Great ideas for economy, great family & ethics, oh and he held REAL JOBS and was SUCCESSFUL!!!!! These politicians should have had to serve in combat or at least ran a SUCCESSFUL, PROSPEROUS business, not just run their delusional mouths.
Well he better pick a decent VP if that is possible. He is slipping in the polls everywhere. He is up by just one today in the daily Gallup. At the real-time on-line poll over at http://www.bop-o-rama his number suggest a much bigger problem. It seems he is not polling well here in cyberspace.
If Obama does not choose either Colin Powell (The Best Choice) or Hilliary Clinton ( a choice like JFK had to make with LBJ) then he will loose this election. All three of those other so called candidates will only help him in the single state they are from. Powell would bring Independants and alot of Rep over with him. He is highly respected and was the only diamond to come out of that lump of coal we call the Bush Administration. He chooses Powell its all over, in fact all the Conservatards can just hang it up.
Clinton would help shore up her female army that she has going and would carry the day in states that Obama is close with McSame in. That pick has a two edge sword though…..better watch your back Obama with that pick.

It’s so funny watching Fox try to act fair and balanced.
Biden is the logical choice. He balances out the ticket..ie you have the new generation and the old. Biden will give those “hard core” Clinton holdouts a reason to come home. But most are like her…selfish.

fox is always talking fair and balance, since when. whoever obama picks it doesn’t matter fox will help the republicans take that person down. he always give rosy stories on mccain, never mentioning how he treated his first wife and how cindy has a sister that she never mentions. so vp is obamas decision not fox’s or any other msm. so quit trying to pick his vp for him. fox unfair and unbalanced.
He has made his VP choice already. They just need to get him ready for his public debut. Obama/Bin Laden ‘08. The croud is going to love Osama Bin Laden now because Obama has chosen him as a running mate.
Well…….I care, and I hope and pray that it will be Hillary Clinton….if it isn’t,
I don’t think I can ever respect the man as my president.
It doesn’t matter who Obama picks I still cannot vote for him nor can many other voters. Let him pick from another pool - those who are already doomed like Bob Casey or Bill Richardson. Why end the distinguished careers of the fine men mentioned in the article.
If Obama doe not pick Hillery Clinton he will lose the race.
Obama will not choose Biden. He is too much like him, arrogant, sarcastic and a typical democrat.
McCain will be the next president. Romney would be an excellent choice for VP.
No one wnats to be on this ticket with Obama, because no one likes a loser and that is what they will be on November the 5th. See what happened to Kerry…Liberman…Gore…..Hillary. lol leave it to the Democrats to come up with a Freshman Politician to run for President after the Dems have cried & moaned for the last 8 years. The DNC has been in shambles for years and are set to disintegrate after they loose the up-coming Presidential Race this fall. I can’t wait to hear all of the excuses that will soon be forthcoming. Vote Republican in “08″ for a strong nation and less taxes!
At least FoxNews will let a dissenting opinion be posted. The facists at MSNBC censor everything that is not linline with their idealology.
Obama is dumb if he doesn’t pick Bayh. Bayh will help bring him the independent vote much moreso than any of the other VP candidates, and that is where the election will be won or lost. I fully expect Obama to not pick Bayh though as it would go along with his continual lack of judgement in general and judgement of character.
Oh CD!! please - I am the least selfish person. The reason I was and still support Hillary has to do with her devotion, experince, inteligence, integrity, charatcter - qualities your idol Obama is kind of short on. So I am not selfish if I don’t support Obama - I have my own opinions of Obama - is a simple as that. I don’t insult you for supporting Obama so please do the same for me
EVERYONE OTHER THAN CNN & MSNBC knew Obama would be failing terribly at this point…The Self annoited Obama, is in for a big ole suprise when he stupidly does not select Clinton as VP…he threw the election away for blacks when most black politicans like Clyburn, gave up thier credibility in support of him… WERE STILL LAUGHING AND WILL BE WHEN MCCAIN IS SWORN IN NOV 08
The mainstream media has frankly put the security of our great country at risk with an Obama coronation media like CNN & MSNBC is the only way Obama managed to steal the Dem nom. It’s extremely concerning that so many Americans could care less about who their candidate really is?? simply amazing and frankly scarey.
