Hillary To Be Entered Into Nomination At Convention

Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton

Sources within Hillary Clinton’s campaign say the New York Senator’s name is likely to be placed in nomination in Denver — at the insistence of the Obama campaign.

Clinton had originally said she would NOT sign a document allowing a vote to be held on her nomination; aides thought it could be divisive, and worried that it could make her seem weak, since many of her nearly 1900 delegates would almost certainly not vote for her almost 3 months after she formally conceded.

But in listening to her staunch supporters — those who are still bitter over the way she lost, and are having a hard time getting behind Obama — the Clinton campaign became convinced that entering her name into nomination at the convention was the best way to give Clinton backers the “catharsis” she said was necessary to move forward.

Turns out, the Obama campaign agreed. They’d independently decided that the move wins friends and costs little.

That being decided, all that remains are the details– as well as the decision on whether to actually press ahead with a roll call vote. As Marc Ambinder notes, Clinton could use the occasion of her nomination at the convention to formally release all of her delegates to Obama, instead of calling the roll and finishing well behind what her delegate count would suggest.

UPDATE: The two campaigns released a joint statement officially confirming the news on the record, saying Senator Obamas campaign encouraged Senator Clinton’s name to be placed in nomination as a show of unity and in recognition of the historic race she ran and the fact that she was the first woman to compete in all of our nations primary contests.

Obama says “” am convinced that honoring Senator Clinton’s historic campaign in this way will help us celebrate this defining moment in our history and bring the party together in a strong united fashion.”

Read the full statement after the jump.

Since June, Senators Obama and Clinton have been working together to ensure a Democratic victory this November. They are both committed to winning back the White House and to to ensuring that the voices of all 35 million people who participated in this historic primary election are respected and heard in Denver. To honor and celebrate these voices and votes, both Senator Obama’s and Senator Clinton’s names will be placed in nomination.

“I am convinced that honoring Senator Clinton’s historic campaign in this way will help us celebrate this defining moment in our history and bring the party together in a strong united fashion,” said Senator Barack Obama.

Senator Obamas campaign encouraged Senator Clinton’s name to be placed in nomination as a show of unity and in recognition of the historic race she ran and the fact that she was the first woman to compete in all of our nations primary contests.

With every voice heard and the Party strongly united, we will elect Senator Obama President of the United States and put our nation on the path to peace and prosperity once again, said Senator Hillary Clinton.

Senator Obama and Senator Clinton are looking forward to a convention unified behind Barack Obama as the Partys nominee and to victory this fall for America.

john kerry was “nominated” by the dummycrats in 2004. and gore in 2000. but that didn’t stop billary from sandbagging them. now the clintons are mad. there will be a fight. billary have a 40-50 percent chance of “winning.” and a 100 percent chance to obtain a good excuse for hamstringing obama all the way. even if he wins the general election, hillary and lieberman can see to it he can’t get a law passed against farting in church. remember kennedy vs carter? carter does.

Comment by Jenny J

With 2000 delegates how can Obama, Dean and Pelosi stop her being put in nomination at the Convention? Are they afraid it will show how little actual support Obama has in the party?

Comment by jc

Great but sounds like they’re teasing us with Hillary - alot of us want her to have a fair shake. We will be sorry if Obummer gets the nomination. I think Hillary could win if the “people” were voting but I think the superdeligates are going to vote Obama out of obligation and so they don’t look racist. I’m sick of race being the factor.

Comment by L

Hillary, dont do it. You have a huge fan base who are obviously upset by the primaries (we all know obama was pushed to win by the dems). But by doing this you are just making a fool of yourself as they are NEVER going to let you be voted at the convention, stealing Obama’s moment.

I think you should take the high road and tell your fans that you will be back.

Comment by MaR

The so called Democratic Party is a joke. Big deal - THEY have decided Hillary can put her name in nomination. Why was this even a question? This deal with Nobama has been in the works for a long time and they will stop at nothing to get their golden boy elected.
I think they forgot that it is the people who will be doing the voting and if their boy loses in a landslide, there is nothing they can do about it. The American people will NOT put an empty suit in the white house. We are too smart for that.
Hillary is the only candidate that can beat McCain fair and square. The DNC’s Celebrity will go down in flames and they will have only their selves to blame.

Finally, the DNC is doing something right for Hillary supporters and women voters. It will probably not change the outcome, but at least the process will be followed (hopefully without Pelosi and Howard Dean causing any issues). I am a Hillary backer that doesn’t really like Obama - but what choice to I have? I think only the Clintons can unite the party and the nation. Bill will get a fabulous speech and we will be in buyers remorse after the convention.

I agree with Jenny and JC, it is so sad that Hillary has been given such condescending treatment by her own party. She deserves the nomination. If Hillary is not the nominee, I am crossing party lines to vote for McCain.

I find it absolutely hillarious to think about what a clusterf…. the dem’s convention is going to be. Hillary very clearly deserved to be the VP nominee. Now Obummer is afraid and he will be seeking advice from Monica Lewinski on how to keep Bill happy in hopes of getting his endorsement.

Comment by Howard

Obviously … Obama checked with all the delegates behind the scenes to make sure they were still committed to him, before finally coming forward to appear magnanimous, by agreeing to allow a floor vote at the convention. Just another disingenuous P.R. move by Obama. If he had exhibited his commitment to democracy when it really counted, I’d be impressed … like when he could have supported a revote in Florida and Michigan … instead of blocking the effort. Obama is all about appearances. He will say, or do anything to win.

I am very disappointed with the Democratic Party. I have been a long time supporter of ALL the Democratic candidates. I think all of the Party’s big-wigs fixing the primary for their puppet was a slap in the face. I do not consider my vote going FOR McCain, I consider it voting AGAINST Obama. I hate to do it, but it has to be done!!

Yes I hope Hillary Clinton has a big surprise. I have been fighting for Hillary this entire time for
her name to be placed in nomination for a role call vote. I am voting for Hillary. She loves
America and she wants whats best for our country. Obama to me does not seem to care about
America, and if someone does not love their country then they will not fight for that country.
We want someone who will fight for us and Hillary Clinton is that person.

Hillary and her minions have been incredibly selfish and childish since her defeat became all but certain. And by defeat, I mean she lost (i.e. she received less votes and delegates). I do not believe she merits the most generous accomodation she’s received from Obama and his campaign.

I’m an Independent from Hillary’s senatorial state of New York - and I must say, that I’ve been reading all of the comments here. So many are full of insults and personal attacks, where the person bases their support for or against a candidate out of name, gender, race, or simply vengeance. I truly hope, that you who are doing this - represent the politics of old America and not a new one.

Yes if they GAVE him the nomination, they wouldn’t put Hillary name on at the convention unless they had all their i dotted and ts crossed. They think we are so dumb and will fall for anything. Anyone think about the Gas going down, because it would be bad for the Dems on election day. Well they say Bush stating we had to drop the drilling ban didn’t do it, so someone must have friends in the middle east lowering it just in time for votes. In my opinion it was either bush or an underhanded scheme to last only after the election. I hope i am wrong, but i think that either way the gas will go sky high to make up for their lost during this time now trying to make sure they FRIEND”"” gets elected.

Hey Michael, Fox News doesn’t need to split up the Democratic party. They’re doing a fine job of it on their own, LOL!

Just another Obama campaign gimmick.

After kicking around Hillary supporters for six months, now they realize that they cannot win without them. They are going to throw some crumbs on the ground for them to pick at and try to make them happy. The Obama camp has been fighting not to do this but now they have come to the conclusion that they have to do something or they are going to lose.

I don’t know why Hillary supporter would vote for Obama. She differs more from Obama than she does from McCain. During the campaign she parallel herself more to McCain than she did Obama, especially on experience.

Let’s send Barack Obama back to Chicago where he belongs.

I hope Hillary makes a move at the convention. Desperate times call for desperate measures. History will ‘ judge later’ what we do now.Call it ‘a woman’s intuition’ or a gut feeling- I somehow know that Obama isn’t the answer. How many lives have been helped or saved by this ‘intuition’?
As Democrats, we need to rethink our party. We need to strengthen our knowledge. We need to set precedence .To not allow Hillary’s name on the nominating ballot will mean that being a celebrity is THE key for magical entry into the kingdom. This will also mean that ‘hype’ wins, and that the ‘talking heads’ again influenced our seemingly rational minds.
In the year 2208, I am still a woman. And still optimistic.

What does this accomplish?
If you say before hand that it’s just a publicity stunt or a move to make obama look better or whatever you want to call it, than doesn’t that defeat the purpose of doing it because people will know you’re only doing it to get their votes…
How many hilary supporters for McCain will actually switch over to obama because of this?

This might be good for Hillary supporters, but I don’t think it will be good for Hillary. It just doesn’t put her in the best light. I agree with her taking the high road.

Thank you Obama, and the DNC!
But I can’t seem to understant why many people BLAME Hillary, and or Fox News for this descision being made. We the People (yes Hillary supporters are people too) have sent millions of letters and phone calls to the DNC, our Governers and Senators and Hillary herself begging that she not give up, I would like to think that this might just have a LITTLE bit to do with why she will be put on the ticket. It may be hard for some to understand, but Hillary supporters feel the same way about her, as Obama supporters feel about Obama.
Until the Convention, Obama is only a PRESUMPTIVE nominee. How can America tell other Countries that we have the best free and honest election process, when we the people’s freedom to vote only goes so far, then those that have their pockets lined ( Deligates and Superdeligates) can trump the peoples choices. Many of the Deligates, and Super Deligates voted against the people of their district voted. To me, that is a slap in the face to the people, and an aragant move.
How many of you have heard as children, and told your children that anyone can be president?
I have learned particulary through this Presidential election process, that that is not true. Elections are bought with high dollars, NOT who we the people choose. The winner will be the candidate that has the most money. This is the most expensive election I have ever whitnessed in my lifetime. Because Obama is a fresh face, runs his campaign on CHANGE (which the majority of Americans want), along with his rock star image has raised the most money. Hillary broke records with money raised as well, but couldn’t keep up with the Obama’s image. She could have dropped out way before being pushed into debt, but she kept fighting for those that believe in her. It came to a point where she could go no further with the debt, being pressured and ridiculed by the DNC, and the bias Media. So she was bought out, and had to step aside. Our Four Fathers must be rolling in their graves!

Obama is just an empty suit, I hope the delegates turn on him. The main stream media have already coronated him as President, King and Savior. If I were Obama I would be wary of anything the Clintons come up with for the convention. Hillary’s name in nomination could spark more than just good feelings. Just as that high is in play, the big Bubba will be a featured speaker, making many to think of the good old days when Bill was the president. I can’t believe Obama would allow this. After the Clinton show, the delegates will be left with Obama, an unknown. He could come out of the convention with lower poll numbers, but that is exactly what Billary duo of Bill and Hillary want. If they can’t get the nomination this time around, they can torpedo Obama and damage him from the convention so if he is elected he will only serve one term a la Jimmy Carter. In short, we are not finished with the Clintons.

Now that they gave the nomination to him, Obama are now saying Michigan and Florida should be counted.

Obama will loose big.

Obama,s trick are now very coming to light.

Obama Fatigue. I am soo tired of this guy pretending like he knows what he is talking about.

Comment by Sue Hal

How magnanomous of Sen. Obama!!!!! Hillary Clinton received alot of votes in this primary and her supporters should be able to support her at the convention. If it is a done deal, than why have the coronation at all. Guess Sen. Obama was afraid that if they didn’t allow Mrs. Clinton a vote a GENDER RIOT would break out.

Comment by SheIsMe

Can any of the PUMA people on here tell me how exactly the election was stolen from Hillary? I have yet to hear any of them give a concise answer to this question. They complained b/c the wanted her name in nomination, then when her name is put in nomination they still complain. Never satisfied. All those hoping Hillary get the nomination…hate to be blunt but it aint happening. That is a guaranteed way for the Dems to lose the nomination. All Obama’s supporters would never vote for her if the nomination is taking from him. In the end you guys or should i say gals don’t have a leg to stand on. Hillary agreed to the MI and FL primaries, Obama had more pledged before the supers started to go to him and they only went after he secured more pledged delegates than Hillary. The media didn’t go to the polls 18 million times and vote for Obama people did, caucses have been around since…gasp…Bill was running and she didn’t have a problem with them then. Why wasn’t this mass sexism theory mentioned until after she was losing?

For Michael in Atlanta: How on earth is Fox trying to cause the demos trouble. I think they have been more than fair to both Obamanation and Hillary. Fox doesn’t need to divide your party, you already have. McCain will bring both parties together for the good of our country. If only we could just be rid of Howard, Nancy and Harry. THEY ARE WHO ARE TEARING THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY APART. WAKE UP AND GET RID OF THEM. THEY ARE NOT FOR THE GOOD OF THE PEOPLE, ONLY FOR THEMSELVES.

Comment by Gordon

It seems that Sen. Clinton does not have the support of her fellow politicians. Her mission to improve health care is fifteen years and counting. The problem is, despite how great her ideas are, becoming president will not change the fact that no one will help her complete her political plan. The only way she will have a successful presidency is if you replace the rest of the Democratic Party. It sucks, but it is reality, she has failed to inspire the people who will be working for her; which is a fundamental failure in leadership. It is time to step aside; she is only helping the Republicans.

Since when does a candidate that lost the primary get a second chance? Well, I can only surmise Obama isn’t familar with the Clintons and their so called “ENTITLEMENT”, she plans to take away from him the nomination, and all her backers intend that to happen. The Clintons just won’t go away, not only with the recent scandal of Edwards they chose to put out front speaking a former cheater as Bill Clinton, how can anyone believe him either, certainly wouldn’t highlight him. Hillary is after one thing, running for president, afterall she shed a tear, whined to get the public to pay for her campaign, shouted sexism, guess she figures it should stand for something, maybe she could invoke that in answering the phone at 3A M

Comment by Thomas

Such bitterness. Obama ran the better campaign, and in the end… it came down to the superdelegates anyway. Why don’t you place your ire where it belongs, squarely directed at the super delegates. If you feel they did an injustice in voting for Obama, find out if you can make it an issue.

Voting against a candidate to spite them is fairly childish at best. You shouldn’t waste your vote on spite, but use it on the candidate that best suits your ideals. Even a write-in vote would be a more worthy action. It sounds like a serious case of sour grapes to me. They didn’t run the better campaign this time. Perhaps some of this energy should be bottled for the next election.

With that said there is no way in hell I would vote for Mcain over Hillary . I may not like her but her policies are no different from Barrack other then a slite difference in health care. I would break my back for this women to win and not knee cap her in spite. But the problem is she lost and thats life. Now for those of you who think other wise would not vote for him any way so go on over to the GOP and lets see how much worse things will get with the same old policies we have had for the last 8 years.

Hilary will do whatever she can do to steal the nomination. She is damaging her reputation and many, many voters will never support her in the future for president. She is toast.
