Obama adviser lights up McCain on Georgia

While it is widely assumed among the punditocracy that any national security issues will work to John McCain’s advantage this fall, it looks like it was actually the Obama campaign that was the first side to make the war in Georgia a partisan issue.

Obama foreign policy adviser Susan Rice fired the first bullet Tuesday night accusing McCain’s initial comments about the conflict of potentially exacerbating the situation.

“John McCain shot from the hip, a very aggressive, very belligerent statement,” Rice told MSNBC (above). “He may or may not have complicated the situation.”

McCain’s first statement immediately laid blame on Russia for escalating the conflict while Obama and the White House initially called on “restraint” from both Georgia and Russia. However, Obama has more recently ratcheted up his anti-Russia rhetoric as the week has gone on and has essentially adopted what Rice calls McCain’s “belligerent” tone.

For his part, McCain told FOX yesterday that there is “no room for partisanship” on Georgia though one of his surrogates, Sen. Lieberman, struck back at Camp Obama last night noting that the Democrat’s initial statement on Georgia showed “inexperience.”

The latest: McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds directly responds to Rice’s attack.

“During an international crisis when bipartisanship is needed most, it’s unfortunate to see the Obama campaign launch an inflammatory, and baseless political attack,” Bounds said.

Obama would rather win the election than WIN THE PEACE!

Kidding, right?

Hope is alive: “America is—is no longer, uh, what it—it could be, what it was once was. And I say to myself, ‘I don’t want that future for my children’.” —Barack Obama

I don’t see how she “lit him up”
I’m sure Obama is regretting not taking a side sooner, but chances are he had scarcely ever even heard of Georgia when this hit the news, and needed to find out what he was talking about, before taking a side. In the end though his idea that he can coexist peacefully with Russia is insane. I would love to see him go try and talk to the ex KGB member himself, and see how hard Putin laughs at him for thinking that peace can truly be attained through discussion.

Of course the Obama camp came out blasting McCain. They are trying to distract voters from Obama’s inexperience. Obama’s speech, albeit during his “Hawaiian Vacation” came much later than McCain’s. Obama needed to round up his foreign affairs folks and then have them prepare his statement, it was obvious. Obama didn’t even look up during the statment, he hadn’t had time to rehearse as he has in all others.

Good for Susan Rice. She tells it like it is. The media in general has not looked at this issue in depth and is again giving McCain a pass for his hawkish statements without much comment. Remember, everyone, McCain spoke for you and your all Georgians.

This is exactly why John McCain shouldn’t be our next president.

He is too destructive. He tries to exploit our sense of patriotism and our false sense of national superiority to promote his and George Bush’s idealistic worldview, one that’s centered on imperialism.

John McCain, if elected, would be a reckless cannonball, John McCain lacks the common sense and practical restraint needed for that 3AM phone call.

This is not circa 1969. We live in a different world today. Sometimes I wonder if McCain is re-living Vietnam in his assessment of world affairs.

Military action, effective military action is an option that this country has and will use or threaten if needed. However, in some situations, it is not the most effective. Diplomacy is an ability that McCain lacks.

You cannot change an extremist radical ideology with just military action. McCain doesn’t understand that. He refuses to see the world from different perspectives, and as a result he has a narrow view of the world (He has an “us versus them” mentality). That worldview is totally inconsistent with what the founding fathers envisioned.

The aforementioned article is just another example of McCain’s inability to provide a rational assessment of a conflict without making matters worse. His initial belligerent comments about the conflict in Georgia may potentially exacerbate the situation.

Common sense will prevail in 2008

This article says Obama was the first to make this a partisan issue. Wrong, Fox.

When the story broke this past Friday, McCain beat Obama to the punch. You reported right here on this web site that McCain called for NATO troops to immediately go in as peacekeepers. Today McCain’s camp claims that they did not call for military action against the Russians. Technically, they did not. But, just what exactly were these NATO peacekeepers supposed to do in the battle of an active combat zone?

McCain has taken a stance more aggressive than Bush. He claims to have spoken on the phone on a daily basis. Now the President of Georgia is calling on McCain to put up or shut up. Now the Obama campaing is criticizing Camp McCain, and rightly so.

That is not making it a partisan issue. Make tried to make it a partisan issue by “demonstrating his national security” experience by making statements that were not his to make. He has stirred the pot of international security while he is only a candidate for POTUS. This is valid criticism. McCain would do the same, in fact tried to when Obama spoke “peace” to a crowd in Germany.

Is it just me or what? Why is it that the McSame folks are always firing off rounds at Obama but when anyone in the slightest way makes a comment about McCaine, the words such as “inflammatory” and “political attack” are thrown all over the place. Its like a little kid starting a fight and then once he get walloped upside the head he then goes off running and crying to his Mama.

Time to throw Susan Rice under the bus.

Obama’s team just isn’t ready for prime time.

You ask Why? because Obama is a skirt and a liberal and a pacifist bleeding heart and NO leader. His team of 400 all heads together can’t find their own asses with both hands

McCain struck first when Lieberman attacked Obama over Georgia Tuesday morning. Susan Rice’s statements were in response to Lieberman’s attack. Joe repeated his earlier comments Tuesday at some dinner.

But, who said what when how and where is not the issue here people. The issue is what to do about this situation in Georgia. A team player does not care who knocks in the winning RBI, just as long as the team wins. Sure you could celebrate the guy as a hero, but there are still more games left to be played.

Please everyone needs to pay attention; John McCain would be a dangerous president for our country. He makes reckless and dangerous statements without understanding this is not our war; our American citizen are not the ones being bombed on. And now Georgia’s President is calling on him to back up his words with actions. But the bottom line is John McCain is a coward who is interfering in another country’s conflict in the most dangerous and politically reckless way. Georgia is not America where we have Reckless Rethuglicans Politicians who never put their country first; who have Racist Bigots occupying our air airways; that are the same people who claim they are the true patriots but seems to be more talk than actions. This is a country that is trying to establish their Independence and John McCain calling out Russia when he is in no position to make any important decisions is not only dangerous but this is a clear picture of who this man would be as our next president.

We already have one incompetent president running our country; do we need a man who would be far worst.

“He may or may not have complicated the situation.”

Now THAT’S a very definitive statement, maybe, I think, but I’m not really sure, you know?

Of course, this is after Obama fumbled the ball on his first foray into the resolution of international conflicts. Probably because he has advisors such as Ms. Rice.

I think Obama and his foreign affairs advisors know little of the cold war that many of us experienced up close and personal for many years….McCain’s approach to the “USSR” is totally correct and appriopriate. These youngsters know little of this russian bear and their inexperience shows greatly. Nope…the Obama Team is not up to dealing with these old guard russians.

Ah yes, Georgia’’s paid agent Randy Scheunemann has 100,000 reasons (or make that 450,000 reasons - $$$ -in the past 4 years) for us to all believe that Georgia is such a victim and that John McCain is the ultimate defender and going to keep us all safe from Georgian (er. Russian) reckless aggression.

Why is this guy still McCain’’s cheif foreign policy advisor and in the campaign if his company (he is still the president of Orion Strategies, no?) is Georgia’’s paid lobbyist in Washington? Certainly McCain’’s pronouncements are not colored at all by Scheunemann’’s views. And why does the Justice Department allow someone to claim they are not a paid lobbyist, when if fact they are still getting paid (just not “lobbying”, wink, wink…) Give me a break. The man is co-owner of an LLC and the LLC is taking in $200,000 from the Georgian government. If it looks like a foreign agent, quacks like a foreign agent, it’’s a foreign agent.

So after Scheunemann’s “WMD in Iraq”, “we will be greeted as liberators” lies lead us to the Iraq War fiasco, now Scheunemann wants us all to believe this fantasy that Georgia wasn”t the reckless instigator of this crisis so that McCain can appear of so presidential and restart the Cold War.

Hey, that would be good for business, wouldn”t it? I”ve got to buy more oil stock… Say hello to $10 a gallon gasoline under President McCain. Yee Haw!

Obama but out you dont know what you are doing, leave this one to the most experienced foreign policy representatives.

From what I seen on Fox News today John Mccain was right to doubt Russia and Putin, they went further than stated and probably are not finished.
I have to go with Mccain, he probably knew more about the military and war
when he left boot camp than Obama does now.

Barry, let me explain this in the simpelist terms I can. In 2004 we had a general election. GW Bush was (unfortunately) elected. I realize he’s not very bright and really unpopular, but he was elected president, not you. in fact, you haven’t even been nominated yet. So, calling up the leader of Russia and telling him what to do was entirely wrong. That is the job of the ELECTED president.

If you are elected, then you can start World War III, not before.

I hope you took notes. There will be a test later.

Comment by Jonas H

Dr. Susan Rice comments reflect the true reality of foreign policy that NATO, UN and US is doing. President Bush comments was well crafted not to anger the Russians. McCain need to realize that nobody needs another Cold War.

Comment by Iris D.

McCain serriously may or may not have made matters worse. He is going to regret the President of Georgia citing his name during the critical stage ot the cease fire. The Georgian President is dangerous because he can not maintain a cool head. He started this mess. The Presidnent and Sec. Rice warned this guy to not allow the Russians to jerk his chains. So what does he do, he then goes and poke a stick at the Russians. If Georgia had been in NATO, we’d be in the middle of WWIII.

McCain seems hell bent on taking us smack dab into WWIII. McCain’s hand prints are all over this invasion. This is the October surprise in August. Why did Georgia provoke Russia, when the country had been warned by the President and Sec Rice to not attack S. Ossetia? Ask John McCain and his Georgian paid lobbiest.

This type of weak-kneed appeasement is exactly why the terrorists are probably praying to Allah at this very moment that Obama gets elected. Incredible! What an embarassment, even to the Obama campaign! He’s not WRIGHT for America!

Comment by Michael

John McCain was first out of the box with a clear plan to condemn Russia for this act of aggression. Obama was playing golf and working to appease everyone by blaming Georgia for the problem.

Obama is much like the 1930’s mindset of Europe that believed that appeasing was the way to deal with tyrants. Obama is wrong far too inexperienced and incapable of being president.

VOTE MCCAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CRACKS me up when liberals attack FOXnews. They can’t STAND not dominating the argument like they do in almost every other news outlet and then PRETEND that MSNBC is anything other than a propaganda machine for Obama or ANY democrat. I am a registered Democrat and WILL vote AMERICAN. I will vote for JOHN McCAIN!! The ONLY American running. I don’t know which country Obama really has in his heart but its not ours. Obama can go back to Germany and intertain his fans.

Comment by Sean

Wow, the moonbats are out in force today.

So, Obama’s camp is right about Russia/Georgia? Uhh, ok….

McCain is going to cause a new Cold War? Let’s see if anybody can keep up. Who sent troops into Georgia? A) John McCain B) Vladdy Putin - anybody care to take a stab at the answer?
$10 a gallon under McCain? Given the market didn’t move one inch during the short lived invasion I’d say this was a lame statement.
I’m amazed out just how unhinged and ignorant the Obamanites are. Revisionist history and lacking any knowldge of history they continue to irrationally rant like elderly women going through menopause.
As for Bud’s statement on Iraq: Bro, you weren’t there so don’t comment on it. You aren’t smart enough. Never bring a kinfe to a gunfight.
In closing, I will say this about Obama: He refuses to stand during the pledge and refuses to put his hand over his heart during the pledge. When asked why he wouldn’t wear an american flag lapel pin he said he “didn’t want to take sides.” Intersting that the person wanting to be POTUS doesn’t want to be on the side of the country he wants so desperately to run.

Comment by shawn wolfe

So now it comes out that McCain has advisors on his team paid millions by the Georgian government.

Funny how McCain said that in this day and age no country has the right to invade another county.

huh? are you kidding me? did anybody bother to remind McBush we invaded Iraq 5 years ago and have never left?

ohhhhhh yeah! we didn’t invade them…we liberated them huh? yeah that’s it. that is what the nazi-conservatives wan’t us to believe.

russians invade = invasion
americans invade = liberation

sounds like propaganda to me!

Comment by Bob

Could it be that Mr McCain has to stay PRO- GEORGIA since his advisors have received thousands of dollars for there lobbying efforts on behalf of Georgia. McCain should think about ethics in his campaign and clean house of his entire staff. Also what little does George Bush know about the situation. He was overheard telling Condoleezza before leaving to go to Georgia to please bring him back a Atlanta Braves Sweatshirt. A real man in the know.

As usual Susan Rice and her facts on the issues are wrong. If this idiot is the best foreign policy adviser Obama can come up with we are in trouble. S. Rice can’t even get her facts right and polutes with nothing but the party line. She is a arrogant want to be! Just another empty suit! Obama belongs in the UN not the highest office in the world.

I believe it will be extremely interesting when people in this country and in Europe understand what
Russia is really doing. Just think when Hugo Chavez, the crazy in Iran, and Putin all pull the plug
on Oil flowing into the WEST. They don’t need our dollars to exist while we crumble. I just wonder
who will be laughing then. Just remember what Putin did to Western Europe a year or so ago when
he shut the GAS pipelines off during the winter. THis kind of action does not bother these types of
folks. Then the question will be “Why didn’t we see this coming and drill for our own oil and gas?”.

Comment by WEST VIRGINIA DEMOCRAT

John McCain is right. We rednecks like war. We should bomb Russia err Czechoslovakia if we can still find it , Georgia, the USSR (if they still exist) and take all their oil!!!!

Comment by White American

McCain has the right approach here in calling out russia on this issue. The russians took their offensive too far into georgia and were waiting for someone to stop them. Engaging them by denouncing what they’ve done is more effective than saying well both sides need to just relax and take a vacation in hawaii. obama continually sits on the side lines while issues are think tanked and polled to find out the best response which shows his inexperience. For all you Orange County folks out there you should sit this issue out you cant even handle your own state let alone another country’s affairs.

Comment by JM

We frankly CAN NOT afford to make a full on enemy of Russia. We can have a “bit of a cold relationship” with them, that’s fine, but with everything else we’ve got going on, and Russia’s new economy and influence, we absolutely CAN NOT afford to make them into an enemy at this time. You have to pick your battle.

Obama is nothing more than a well-spoken mouthpiece for his ignorant puppet masters. When Osama I mean Obama does not have a script he talks out of his arse. I believe if elected it would be a devastating blow to this United States. If anyone has been paying attention whenever he counters his opponents through political ads or statements he takes the same position as his opponents, only a day late. Moreover, if he makes a statement first he usually changes his position after his opponent releases a statement. I hope that common sense wielding Americans will be able to see through the charisma, smoke and mirrors and reailize this man is not good for this country. Bush had more experience governing and look where we are today. I would also like to mention things in this country worsened after a democrat congress elected. Remember “Smoke & Mirrors”.

Georgia attacked Ossetia first, Russia retaliated in defense of South Ossetia, Obama initially did not choose sides(McCain did!), Russia eventually became relentless in it’s attacks even after cease-fire agreements, which reacted with Obama and the anti-Russia rhetoric, but I just love how you guys at fox spin your stories, just “forget” to include a couple small facts from the story, or a whole timeline of events, and you flip it any way you want (anti-democrat). And we’re the evil ones huh? You never change your mind, your always partisan from the start, with or without good cause. Never admit defeat, it will just consume you anyway.

Some strange, dangerous policies going on from the administartion, and wish some clear minded people would stand up.

Yeah, Obama, why don’t you just sit down with the Russian Leadership, I am sure they will listen to you, you dope. The Russians have not changed in a thousand years. They do what is in their best interest for national security. They don’t like nato, or Western controlled governments in their back yard. They want a warm water port, and don’t like anti missile batteries in Poland any more that we will tolerate Nukes in Cuba. Talk all you want, Russia will do what it needs to do, and when they achieve their goals, they will stop, kind of like Israel.
