Lieberman blasts Obama on Georgia
TEANECK, NJ — During his introductory remarks at a McCain Garden State fundraiser tonight Sen. Joe Lieberman ripped Barack Obama for exhibiting “inexperience” when it comes to the conflict in Georgia.
“The last few days, four or five days, we’ve seen one of the most unexpected crises in the world as the Russians moved into Georgia as aggressors. And if you read the statements from the beginning, Senator McCain and Senator Obama, one had kind of moral neutrality to it that comes I think from inexperience,” Lieberman said. “The other, Senator McCain, was strong and clear and principled and put America where America always wants to be.”
Lieberman was referring to Obama’s first statement about the conflict Friday in which the IL Senator called on both the Russians and Georgians to “show restraint.”
“I strongly condemn the outbreak of violence in Georgia, and urge an immediate end to armed conflict. Now is the time for Georgia and Russia to show restraint, and to avoid an escalation to full scale war. Georgia’s territorial integrity must be respected,” Obama said in a written statement. “All sides should enter into direct talks on behalf of stability in Georgia, and the United States, the United Nations Security Council, and the international community should fully support a peaceful resolution to this crisis.”
The Lieberman criticism, which echoed his remarks in Pennsylvania earlier today, is noteworthy because McCain has not made Georgia political issue and even told Carl Carmeron today during his FNC interview that, “I respect Senator Obama’s views and I believe that it’s important that we act in a bipartisan fashion now. There’s no room for partisanship now.”
Additionally, it should be noted that Obama’s initial statement was actually very similar in tone to Dana Perino’s White House statement Friday in which she said, “we urge restraint on all sides - that violence would be curtailed and that direct dialogue could ensue in order to help resolve their differences.” Obama has since ratcheted up his criticism of the Russians and his multiple statements since Friday have grown similar in substance and tone to McCain’s.
Lieberman made the Georgia criticism as part an attack on Obama’s readiness for Oval Office.
“You got a real clear choice to make, and I say it respectfully to Senator Obama cause he is a gifted young man, but he is not ready to be President,” Lieberman told McCain donors Tuesday night. “(Sen. McCain) is ready to be commander in chief on day one. Tested in war and peace. He has passed both tests with honor that shows not only his ability but his character.”

I thought Lieberman was a democrat before becoming independent… now I mean he doesn’t have to support obama, but going for mccain is a bit extreme…
Lieberman has made an ass of him self again and men will ride him again.
Obama’s statement was restrained, intelligent, and diplomatic something that’s missing from the current administration and a direct contrast to the current state of the world. Lieberman should be commenting on the failures of this administration that has allowed Putin to continue to control Russia. After Medev’s term Putin will become President of Russia once again. Bush looked into Putin’s soul and saw a man whom he believed he could trust. Putin looked into Bushs’ soul and saw the abyss.
Another in a seemingly interminable poor calls concerning foreign policy. Obama could never do as poorly.
Congratulations Decider.
Beltway Greg
Oh yeah, McCain went way over the top with his “Ich bin ein Berliner” moment: “Today, we are all Georgians”. What silly theater — as if we were going to do anything at all about it, except make gravely-sounding pronouncements. If he’d said “Today we are all British Petroleum”, at least he’d have illuminated the real concerns of the West, namely the BTC petroleum pipeline.
I don’t care one bit for the Russians and their fast-track towards fascism, but the Ossetians want membership in the Russian federation which seems as legitimate as the Georgians not wanting to be so.
And by thinking that McCain’s melodramatic turn was actually substantive, Leiberman has only demonstrated his own mindless partisanship, and joins McCain’s failure to appreciate geopolitical reality. We won’t, probably can’t, intervene in the Transcaucus, nor around the Caspian.
Certainly Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan won’t buy the bluster. Only the EU, and not an American-led NATO, can prevent Russia from extending its control over the more valuable of the breakaway southern republics. Indeed, Europe gets it oil and gas from Russia, but look how much food, how many manufactured goods the Russians import in turn.
The dishonorable senator Joe Lieberman is nothing more than a two faced opportunist.I think it is very clear to most people now.
I guess if by “inexperience” Sen. Lieberman is suggesting that the Obama campaign has no lobbyist in the pocket of the government of Georgia - which you’d think presents a huge conflict of interest - then I suppose he’s endorsing more of what we’ve witnessed in the last eight years of a Bush presidency, which is certainly not the sort of experience that comes with an Obama administration.
All i have to say is please take a look at THIS record, http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjohnmccain.com/cin_mccain_lost_five_u.htm We cannot afford to take a chance on McCain, this man is not a war hero bottom line and i’m just about sick to my stomach with these lies about this person.
I understand that there were clear signs that this crisis was developing back in April. Why would Lieberman say it was so unexpected?
Why was McCain talking about Georgia? Isn’t that Condolessa Rice’s or President Bush’s job? McCain is a candidate. His opinion can be voiced, but to go on the air AS IF he were the president makes him look more presumptive than Obama ever was!!!!!
The dishonorable Senator Joe Lieberman is nothing more than a two faced opportunist.I think this is pretty darn clear to most observers who have watched this man over the years.
Lieberman is running off at the mouth and suggesting that somehow the US can decide what is happening and who is at fault for what etc. without really having all the facts in hand. We know Russia is the problem of course, but it is hardly helpful to simply make accusations, particularly when America, on its own, is in no position to deal with Russia. And, I would not be surprised if Bush is behind Putin on this. Or at least he is going to turn a blind eye like he did on Musharraf in Pakistan. I think what Obama said was the right first response. What McCain said was not materially different and maybe to presumptuous. I agree with McCain this should not be a partisan issue. It is clear what needs to be done. McCain should publicly slap Lieberman down for his comments.
How long before all the idiots realize what a fake Obama really is? What kind of mentality does it take to not realize this chameleon changes his position on every issue to fit his needs–his needs being that he will eventually appeal to every idiot out there if he flipflops frequently enough. It is difficult to conceive of so many traitors who seek to destroy the greatest nation on the continent. This man (?) has no qualifications whatsoever to lead this country.
Artificial intelligence is no substitute for natural ignorance.
WAKE UP PEOPLE IF YOU CARE ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT YOUR FUTURE; THE FUTURE OF YOUR CHILDREN; THE FUTURE OF YOUR GRANDCHILDREN.
McCain is the one that will get us through these rough times. Yes it might get a little rough, but in the end WE will be safe and free. With oBUMa’s inexperience he will lead us into more wars, and of course with the dissarming of our Army we will be at our weakiest. Can you imgaine how vulnerable we will be, and who that hates us will try to attack us. Hmmm mabe thats all part of oBUMa’s plan. I dont trust him! Go McCain Go!

Obama is a CLOWN and I am going to do my DUTY as an American and VOTE AMERICAN this year. I don’t care about this silly antics the FAR LEFT LIBERALS LIKE OBAMA come up with. THIS guys is NOT AMERICAN. THere is something FUNDAMENTALLY WRONG with Obama. I am a registered Democrat and am moderate. I WILL VOTE FOR JOHN McCAIN Obama will destory our country as he EXPERIMENTS with it. The last time I checked we are still a SUPER POWER! Maybe someone should tell Obama and the IDIOTS following him.
During one of McCain townhall meetings, he said he knows how to win wars!!! Okay, if you say so…but my question to McCain would be this -
Are you diplomatic enough to keep us out of a war that we don’t belong in? That is what is scary to me…
Lieberman should go ahead and change parties already. He can go around whispering sweet nothings in Mc Cains ear and let him know a Sunni from a Shia. They should run together I apologize I meant they should walk slowly together holding hands might be nice. Pair of saber rattlers who should be given baby rattles instead. YES WE CAN AND NO WE WONT EVER VOTE FOR EITHER OF YOU OLD BUCKET LIST CARRYING IDIOTS!
Maybe next time Mc War you will support and honor our troops and the GI BIll.
What district is Lieberman from? Why do they keep electing him? Wasn’t he Al Gore’s running-mate in 2000. Talk about a flip-flopper.
Lieberman and McCain are idiots. They run a low-road campaign and are just trying to sink Obama. But, the truth of the matter is, they are going to sink. Obama is our next President.
Go Obama!
Hi Who really cares about georgia? We need to start worrying about our own backyard right now. The Border is wide open. The 20 million we let in today will breed into 100 million sooner than you think. Think it’s hard to find parking at the beach now? Just wait!!!!
God only knows who has come across. obama means higher taxes. The Dems don’t want to work onlowering gas prices and go on vacation. We should FOCUS on our own problems. Russia and Georgia have their own way of playing games.
Americans must FOCUS on America.
This is great. We can see if the Obama solution (talking and not fighting back) works. Lets see if words will stop the Russians. LOL. Georgia is the future of the US if Obama wins.
Vote McCain, at least you know he loves this country.
Hope - McCain

McAncient is a disgrace. Safe and free? All this fool wants is war, war and more war. You sir, are an IDIOT!!! Go read a book or a newspaper you little sheep.
All he is saying is that it’s McCain’s last chance to get the presidency because of his age…it’s not that Barack is young and inexperienced (their spin). Both Hillary and McCain resent the fact that a younger, bright young man has trumped what they thought was THEIR year…sure it’s disappointing but not a good enough reason to vote for them versus what’s best for America domestically and worldwide.
What “experience” has Joe Lieberman had with respect to this issue?
When McCain picks him for his running mate and then loses for a second time, history will have been made. He will be the first VP candidate to lose as a Democrat and as whatever he calls himself today.
You are such a biased news organization. You can not even put an interesting news in your page that the stupid Lieberman blast Obama. Stop this type of news, we want to know issues and not garbage. I will bet that FOX is cooking something similar to what they did to Kerry but this time is not going to work.
“Obama’s statement was restrained, intelligent, and diplomatic something that’s missing from the current administration and a direct contrast to the current state of the world.”
Since when does speaking against ethnic cleansing require constraint? To not fully condemn Russia’s actions is reprehensible. Obama has once again decided to straddle the issue instead of clearly stating if he is for or against the actions of someone. Georgia is a strong ally in an area of the world where we admittedly have few…
McCain is terrifying.
Anyone that supports a Republican after 8 years of Bush needs to pull their heads out of their butts.
Liberman is a joke, in fact, the two of them look like old men running around and beating their chests…it is downright comical (and a tad bit embarrassing).

fox sucks
Lieberman will be left with nothing after this cycle. He will have no clout with either side. The last person anyone wants for a friend is someone with a reputation for stabbing their friends in the back, and he will realize this only after both parties kick him to the curb after the election.
Lieberman, shut the hell up! Your constant stupid, uninformed comments only serve to magnify the stupid, uninformed master that you serve. While I realise that this is your ‘15 minutes’, riding on McBush’s coattails, I just can’t wait for you to be gone. Georgia’s leader is nothing more than a gangster who instigated this situation and Russia’s response. Now, if quite a few of us know this, the big question is…WHY DON”T YOU & YOUR MASTER KNOW THIS too???…Is there no depth you won’t go to look foolish, dated and totally out of touch with reality?
All those that say we will be safe and better under McCain. I guess you have not been paying any attention to what has been going on for the last 8 years, he came out and said he voted with Bush over 90% of the time and look how safe and better we are now.
Lieberman shadows McCain to be there to help him when he mis-speaks, which is now a daily occurance. Just looking at these two old men makes me cringe! McCain twist the truth and has not run the honorable race he promised. I showed have known because a man that could have an affair when his wife is crippled is as low as Edwards! Everytime McCain bashes Obama he gets this side-ways smirk and raises his eyebrows as if saying,” See how clever I’am.” McCain will pick up a gun and then talk deplomacy(Maybe). Obama will explore and even exhaust all efforts of deplomacy before picking up that gun. I pray for my grandchildren that Obama becomes President. I can’t bear the thought of another war that could have been avoided. Obama has the intellect to think though all the ramificatios and McCain leaps forward and just perhaps thinks about that after its too late……
Hey McCain, your president Saakashvili(you know after your comment “We are all Georgians now”) is asking for your help. Saakashvili said “it’s time to pass from this. From words to deeds.” Well? Where are you John? Oh, I get it. You were just trying to talk tough. Got it. I see how great and strong you are in foreign relations. You run your mouth, trying to talk tough and alienate another country, but when you get called out on it, you have nothing to say. Yeah, that’s an attribute I look for in a President. Running their mouth without thinking. And this is supposed to be your stregnth. Scares me to think how you will handle the economy. As you’ve said, “The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should”
Obama does lack experience. What the hell is wrong with that statement? Only Obama supporters can see this as going negative. As soon as someone says anything that they don’t like they start right away with the lowest form of attacks possible. It shows me just what kind of people support Obama and as a Democrat I am so glad I did my research from the start and decided that this is not the person I can support for the highest office in the land. I would also like to let the Obama supporters know that a lack of respect for others shows no intelligents at all so saying you are the more educated lets me know just what is wrong with our educational system today.
The little God with the soft eyes is a coward, just like all liberals. He doesn’t even have the guts to say “sic em ” to his own dog…When Russia attacks America and we are burning, he will be hiding in the bushes screaming “All sides should enter into direct talks”.
Leiberman owes the Democrats nothing because they really messed him over and I am glad to be working with Senator Leiberman on Democrats for McCain. Obama is so racist and sexist that I refuse to vote for him and yes a lot of Democrats are supporting McCain. I bet that more Democrats support McCain on election day then those that support Obama. I am glad that Joe Leiberman has the guts to support the person that he really thinks is best for this Country. The Democrats kicked him out of the party the same way they tried to get rid of the Clintons. I am a proud member of PUMA and if Hillary is not the nominee then I am backing McCain.
When McSlain/McCain stated that “today we are all Georgians”, I had to hold back busts of laughter since I was at a meeting. kThat was one of the strangest and most commical statements I have heard from him since a day or two ago. I have been on the fence about voting support, but that comment just about endorsed my vote for Obama.
Not only did I not get what he was talking about, labelng me as a “Georgain”
today, what will I be tomorrow?
OHHHHHH what a woe!

What a joke. Joe L needs to stay on the bench and so does McCain. Neither one has backed the Veterans in their fighting efforts in Iraq or Iran. Let Them do the big talking ………and the fighting. Its time we had a leader who can actually do some rational thinking. Senator Obama has acted right in his statements. As a veteran, I , along with alot of other veterans are sick of hearing McCain and his oil backed friends talk about combat. If McCain or Lieberman want to talk tough…………go talk to the Russians. Senator Obama will make an excellent president, maybe we will get the change that politics and America deserves. The Veterans have suffered long enough with the leadership of this country that has failed to protect them and their benefits they earned. Its time for Lieberman and McCain to take a vacation from politics. God bless the VETERANS and everything they have did for this country.

After being screwed by the Democrats, Joe Lieberman woke up and started to care more about our country then his prior political party. I don’t agree with McCain on everything but he is so much better than Obama on protecting the USA and keeping it a democracy than a Socialistic Government like Obama wants it to be.
Thank god Obama was not President when Germany went into Poland!
Obama’s inexperience is something we just can not afford.
It is true that Obama has raised the level of his statements. It is misguided to believe that he is trying to match McCain. Read the article. Obama’s initial remarks were in line with the White House. His remarks are still in line with the White House, which has since raised the bar. But, Obama’s comments are not as fiery as the White House. McCain comments are more volatile than the White House.
“WAKE UP PEOPLE IF YOU CARE ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT YOUR FUTURE; THE FUTURE OF YOUR CHILDREN; THE FUTURE OF YOUR GRANDCHILDREN.”
Chuck…it’s strange, reading your comment is like looking at someone in flames, screaming at all those around him, YOUR ON FIRE IDIOTS!
Your desires are overpowering any semblance of intelligence….how unfortunate that McCain’s camp knows there are so many puppets like you out there.
Lieberman is wrong, and doing a hit job on behalf of McCain who said “this isn’t a time for partisan politics.” Yeah, right McCain. Why don’t you go make more inflated promises to Georgia for us all? Heck, you even have the Georgian president telling the world that he appreciates John McCain’s words but that it’s time for deeds not words. Anyone alarmed at this yet? Am I the only one who sees what just happened here?
For those who forget on how the USA dealt with this Russian Bear it was by confronting these aggressive actions…not playing pattsy with them. Over the entire cold war there were direct actions taken against such aggressive action like what we see…..yet so many now just want to sweep this entire issue under the rug. Well, you can not….these sort of stand back and have the russian bear do what they desire will create more problems… not resolve them….McCain is right you must push this issue further for it will come back to bite you….Putin is an old hard liner painted as a sheep…well he is not…..you do not contest this issue directly he and the pseudo-president of Russia will go after every former satellites will the same excuses or some other reason to get them back in the fold….if not he will influence the EU directly by the economic lifeblood…oil and gas. Libermann may be going directly at the issue and has every right to critize Obama for his weak responses…what would you expect…Obama has absolutely no experience in this nor does his foreign affairs advisor…who had nothing to do with the cold war of old.
Obama’s inexperience is an issue here? C’mon. You’re defending a campaign that within 24 hours, made partisan remarks and accused their competition of making partisan remarks on the same darn topic.
That’s sleazy no matter how you slice it. Seriously.
…and as far as experience on this issue, my take is different. I don’t see McCain’s experience - I see cronyism - and specifically, I see a dangerously bellicose foreign policy built around cronies that’s once again, got everything to do with that oil pipeline and nothing to do with “democratic values.”
Russia is relevant again because of oil - that’s what’s funding their ambition - the solution is not to create yet another war - it’s to have an energy policy that’s aggressively not oil-centric.
We can collapse the relevance of these regimes, but not with our military. Even if we were successful, we would end up bankrupt and unable to compete with countries that invested while we were policing the world’s oil supplies.
Just another PERFECT reason all TRUE
AMERICANS need McCain/Lieberman 08 !!!
TELL IT LIKE IT IS JOE (ONLY yellow
belly leftist/marxist) would disagree
with you.
Please vote for Obama. No one can possibly be a worst president than what we have.
Obama is intelligent and calm. He reaches out to all to resolve problems with out and war.
We have no troops to defent McBush ignorance. He’s pretending to be stronger when it’s
not stronger it’s the celebrity in him. McBush is the celebrity huggin Bush any and every chance he got. McBush is a hothead, inconsistent(flip flops), confused and not fit to be president even
with that so call experience. I’m going with the intelligent man who will protect us as well as any president. Hopefully Colin will join his team. Please all you Rpublican get a grip on reality. He’s not
fit. Senators know it and deep down you all know it too. I’m tired of laughing at a doofus president that laugh at him all over the world. We need young, strong leadership which without a doubt Barack will provide.
Why is everybody railing against Lieberman? He understands the tough world we live in and stands with a true war hero, McCain, in letting the world know where we stand in regard to Russian aggression. The critics sound like whiners who have been taught revisionist history and don’t know the price of winning and maintaing freedom against the tyrants of this world. Read 30 year old history books from back when they used to tell school kids the truth about America and the world.
Obambi’s inexperience is nowhere better evidenced than in his reliance on the idiot that is Susan Rice. I guess by her standard Kennedy and Reagan also mad the situations worse when they stood agaisnt Russia.
The woman is a HACK.

Obama has no clue about foreign policy issues. Does he really think that Russia will cease to be agressive if the USA just asks nicely?
RUSSIA IN GEORGIA, LIKE JOHN McCAIN and JOE LIEBERMAN WAR ON IRAQ
McCain and Joe Lieberman, birds of the same feather. Men of pre-emptive doctrine. The more bellicose they become, the more they will attack the rest of America, including the Obama for a new kind of diplomacy. Sorry, we are listening Joe, but something new and different has come.
My father once remarked that “baasor dor bob wini, me anaa bob nee.” This is an Ogoni expression meaning that the monkey in the bush, jumping from one tree to another can fall twice, but it is not for a man to fall twice to foolish advice.” This has to do with making choices and the kind of advice worth applying. The message from Americans to Lieberman is that we carefully listened to you before we went to Iraq, and you unfortunately misled us into a war that has cost so much blood and treasure in Iraq and beyond.
What I hear you saying now Sen. Joe Lieberman is that Senator Barack Obama is “inexperienced” in terms of rushing to war or declaring Russia an axis of evil. Big Joe that’s okay because of the hard lesson we’ve learnt so far. You will be a good member of John McCain War Council dream team for 100 years of war in Iraq and the new wars he will drag America into elected president. Since Americans are tired of this Middle East Syndrome, MES of War, you may wish to import recruits from an unexplored planet to come fight for you and John McCain. This time around, like in the days of the old wehn your kind of democracy was very successful, you will have to go the war front yourself, and if you come back alive, you will become a war hero. This is what a commander-in-chief who loves wars do.
During his introductory remarks at a McCain Garden State night fundraiser on August 12, 2008 Sen. Joe Lieberman said Obama exhibited “inexperience” saying he had “kind of moral neutrality” when it comes to the conflict in Georgia. What “Moral Neutrality” means here is not just being unwilling to issue harsh condemnation and close the door of diplomacy - the old men kind of unnecessary display of military prowess, it is hasty declaration of war, and America should not be confused or deceived by the flowery language. This is not the kind of experience that can serve the interest of America.
Randy Scheunemann, was for four years a paid lobbyist for the Georgian government who ended his official lobbying connection only in March, months after he became Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s senior foreign policy adviser. Previously, Scheunemann was best known as one of the neoconservatives who engineered the war in Iraq when he was a director of the Project for a New American Century. It was Scheunemann who, after working on the McCain 2000 presidential campaign, headed the Committee for the Liberation of Iraq, which championed the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Makes you Wonder!

Does anyone seriously care what Lieberman thinks anymore? He was a turncoat in his own party, but the Republicans don’t trust him either. How is this news?
Please. At least tell us what Phelps had for breakfast. That has a little more import than this.
Well let’s see, Russia said up yours on the let’s talk. They ignored Obama’s cease fire and withdraw. Gees, so the talk and the behave isn’t working, who would of thought. Yeap, Obama sure knows what to do in a crisis. NOTHING and hope it goes away.
