McCain slams Obama’s “words” as misleading
LIMA, OH– John McCain accused his Democratic rival of misleading the public Thursday, repeatedly referring to Obama’s “words” as empty and misleading when it comes to energy and the economy.
“The bottom line is that Senator Obama’s words, for all their eloquence and passion, don’t mean all that much. And that’s the problem in our nation’s capital today. It is not just the Bush Administration, and it’s not just the Democratic Congress,” McCain told more than 600 potential voters at a town hall meeting in central Ohio. “Washington is full of talented talkers, my friends. And unfortunately, on issues big and small, what Senator Obama says and what he does are often two different things.”
McCain then again took aim at Obama’s suggestion last week that properly inflating car tires could help save Americans significantly on energy.
“He actually thinks that raising taxes on oil is going to bring down the price at the pump. He is claiming that putting air in your tires is the equivalent is the equivalent of new offshore drilling. That is not an energy plan my friends, that is a public service announcement,” he said.
But during a media availability aboard his plane today before he heads on vacation Friday Obama said the tire pressure attack line proves Republicans lack solutions on energy and McCain is “misleading” Americans.
“I thought it was a good example of the fact that the other side’s not serious about real energy savings that can push down the price of gas, they’re interested in scoring political points…as we’re speaking truthfully about what we need to do to meet our challenges,” Obama told reporters aboard his plane.
McCain also stood his ground on voting against the 2005 Bush energy bill, stating that Obama may be “a little bit confused” since he is attacking the Republican for espousing Bush-like policies when it was Obama who voted for the bill.
“I spoke up against Congress and the administration and when they gave us an energy bill with more giveaways to big oil and really no solution to our energy problems,” McCain stated. “Senator Obama voted for that bill and its big oil giveaways. I know he hasn’t been in the senate that long but even in the real world voting for something means you support it and voting against something means you oppose it.”
Also one other minor note today. McCain scrapped one misleading figure he usually cites to slam Obama for increasing taxes on lower middle class Americans.
“Senator Obama says he will only raise taxes on the rich. But in the Senate, he voted for tax hikes that would have impacted people making just $42,000 per year,” McCain told voters for the first time today after stating for weeks that Obama had voted to raise taxes on those making $32K and above. Democrats have been slamming the use of that number for weeks and Factcheck.org called it “wrong.”
Though despite the tweak, McCain still jabbed his rival on taxes. “Senator Obama thinks the way to keep jobs here at home is to make taxes higher. Raising taxes in a bad economy is about the worst thing you could do because it will kill even more jobs and send more jobs overseas,” he added.

This is a winning strategy for McCain. Obama cannot back away from his “inflate your tires” at this point. Obama has no figures to support his claim that it would save the same amount of oil that drilling could produce (a ridiculous notion anyway). McCain’s dead on: Obama is being intentionally misleading and a typical politician.
I’ve got no issue with McCain’s flub on 42000 vs 32000 it’s still in the ball park of many middle income Americans. Furthermore, he couldn’t be more accurate in saying higher taxes (particularly that “windfall tax” Obama is brandishing for a $1000 rebate)would only drive up prices (across the board not just at the pump) and is dangerous in an economy that we have right now.
I’ve wanted to see McCain get more aggressive, he’s doing it. Now get this stuff on national TV ads.
Obama’s kneecapped on energy right now….Pelosi (in her “planet saving” mode)has only done him one favour by stubbornly avoiding a vote on drilling, and that is Obama can’t go on record with a vote. She’s trying to play the clock out as well as keep the “green vote” intact and it’s backfiring. However….Obama is now tied to Pelosi and Reid in not being active in bringing drilling to a vote (contrary to what most Americans are asking for)and he’s seen as clinging to ideology rather than national demands. Obama keeps touting “safe” nuclear waste disposal before he considers Nukes? It’s already happening….Chicago has nuclear powered electricity. Obama missed that in his own city? The polls are showing McCain gaining on energy against Obama and it’s no surprise.
Get this stuff on TV Senator McCain…get it to the people en masse, not just townhall meetings because the broader media won’t air it, they’re in Obama’s pocket.
Didn’t McCain make similar comments during the primary season regarding heating bills and setting your thermostat, checking your windows and insulation, etc. Yes, he did. He made a “public service announcement” as he now calls it.
McCain wants nuclear plants. Great. I think it is a good idea. But, he does not want to deal with the waste issue until after the plant is built. The GOP has voted down legislation to deal with waste ever since Reagan took office.
McCain wants off-shore drilling. Great. I think it is a godd idea. But, the oil companies already have well over 60 million acres in leases. Did you know that over 40 million of those acres are off-shore locations? Why are conservatives or the GOP demanding we give them more leased acreage?
Obama is in a tight race for the biggest job in the world yet he goes on vacation. Is this what we can expect from him in the white house, when the going get tough he gone. Am i the only one who’s noticed that Obama 46 takes more time off than Hillary 60 and Mccain 72 put together.
“”Senator Obama’s words, for all their eloquence and passion, don’t mean all that much. And that’s the problem in our nation’s capital today”".
Aint that the truthiness…
“He actually thinks that raising taxes on oil is going to bring down the price at the pump.” Here, McCain is misstating Obama’s policy. Obama never said that raising taxes on oil companies will bring down price at the pump. Raising taxes on oil companies is to raise additional revenue. Obama has made numerous other suggestions that would lower the price at the pump such as increasing conservation and efficiency, investment in alternative energy, reducing market manipulation and speculation, and increasing the strength of the dollar.
“He is claiming that putting air in your tires is the equivalent is the equivalent of new offshore drilling.” Yes Obama is … and he’s right. If everyone followed Obama’s suggestion, we would immediately save 292 MILLION barrels of oil per year. The Bush administration says that increased drilling could yield 200,000 barrels per day extra by 2030. Even if we netted the extra 200,000 per day by tomorrow, that’s still only 75 million barrels of oil per year … much less than the 292 MILLION barrels of oil that could be saved by proper tire pressure.
“Senator Obama voted for that bill and its big oil giveaways. I know he hasn’t been in the senate that long but even in the real world voting for something means you support it and voting against something means you oppose it.” More misleading of the American People by McCain and a continuation of the “black and white” mentality that Bush has used to drag our country down. In reality, bills are usually the result of compromise. Obama voted for the bill because of its large investments in alternative energy. The repugs loaded the bill with the “big oil giveaways.” Obama wanted the investment in alternative energy badly enough that he had to compromise. It doesn’t mean that he supported them.
“Senator Obama says he will only raise taxes on the rich. But in the Senate, he voted for tax hikes that would have impacted people making just $42,000 per year,” McCain told voters for the first time today after stating for weeks that Obama had voted to raise taxes on those making $32K and above. Democrats have been slamming the use of that number for weeks and Factcheck.org called it “wrong.” …. John McCain impliedly admits that he’s been lying to the American People. Now as far as Obama’s tax plan goes … he’s proposing that 90% of the people should have their taxes cut while only 10% of the people’s taxes would be raised.
On balance … more misrepresentation, distortions, and lies from McSame.
This was a great speech from McCain. It’s about time he showed a little gumption.
Wow for someone wanting to be the next President, taking a week off in Hawaii after having a vacation less than a yr and a half ago says alot to me!
Mr Obama, stay in Hawaii!!!!
I definately do NOT want u as my next President
How can Barry really say that the tire gauge comment was taken out of context? Barry’s own words equated filling tires with proper air can save as much oil as new offshore drilling would produce? Remember libs, you’re the ones that think he is a master orator. Does anyone really think that if we save an additional 3-4 MPG using the “Barry Method,” we can save an equivelent of maybe 1-5 million barrels of oil per day? This is as possible as Barry sitting 20 years in church and not have one clue that his pastor is an anti-American, racist, bigotted pig. As Jack Nicholson said in As Good as it Gets: “Sell crazy somepalce else. We’re all stocked up here.”

Obama bin lying….Man McCain so makes me proud to be an American. To count myself as a blessed man.
The Obama camp so funny. They dont know if they’re coming or going. He had to escape to An Island to get a bearing again. He is so confused he dont even know what he is for or against anymore. Now he says drill.. Well Better late than never. Thats right Obama agrees drilling is the answer.
Great work McCain.
How can us poor ignorant schmucks clinging to guns and regligion—win against the economic waves falling down upon them.
Particularly when we have a candidate who is likely to win–that puports raising taxes on the very same employers who’ve already cut jobs due to a failing economy.
Way to go.

Hey McCain campaign - don’t try the ploy of using facts to persuade liberals, it will never work. You need to stoop to using short statements made up of monosyllabic words like “time for a change”; non-specific, easy to read; which are both perfect characteristics and are actually required for your typical Democrat to understand the message. It also allows them to go about parroting the message without having to remember or explain much.
Feb 2007 till Aug 2008 = 16 months. So he took a helf week off once to VI and in his absence Clinton made the Bosnia story. Every American is entitled to at least a week a year.
Obama campaigns on weekends, McCain takes a break. But no one should grudge McCain his downtime nor Obama his vacation. Besides the polls say we have gotten too much coverage of him. I dont think this has any import on who will make decisions that will better our lives.
You might want to ask your State representative energy conservation? How much gas, oil and electricity we could save, if we sent illegal aliens fleeing.
We cannot keep up the demand for it right now! Oil! Diversity Alliance for Sustainable America.(earthtimes) stated in it’s article that if the U.S. grants amnesty and gives citizenship to 12 to 30 million illegal migrants already here, as McCain, Obama and the majority of Democrats propose. That all those naturalized citizens could possibly add 120 million U.S. and foreign-born relatives to the U.S., in the next 20 years whom all will CONSUME MAJOR ENERGY. Does the American people need to escalate the 315 million plus population, the census estimates we have now? To a new total of 435 million?
The executive director of (DASA) admitted “Proposal to reduce energy costs in the U.S. will not work unless we also simultaneously curb U.S. population growth by reducing immigration and curbing teen pregnancies.” Severing the illegal immigration occupation and deporting those already here is a good start, but not the complete solution to this serious energy problem that cannot be reversed. Unless another Nikola Tesla, an underrated genius of the 19th century invents a some new form of energy, we will be reliant on fossil fuels for years to come? Clean coal, geothermal, eco-fuel and of course wind power and solar. The latter is energy that is a perpetual source of unimaginable power that knows no bounds.
Illegal immigration has depressed wages, because predatory employers are hiring illegal cheap labor and ignoring citizens and legal residents. Both McCain and Obama just don’t get it, that 80 percent of the American people are furious with supporting the 12 to 30 million illegal aliens who have invaded this sovereign country.
The cost is astronomical according to (www.eagleforum.org/sources) Read unsuppressed facts at NUMBERSUSA. CAPSWEB We have only one chance of stopping OVERPOPULATION within 20 years?

Obama reminds me of a super hyped star rookie with all this talent but can’t apply it to the actual playing field. His big shoe/product endorsements rely heavily on his popularity and not his playing statistics. basically, he’s a dud with a lot of cash.
OBAMA is an inteligent individual, a Harvard graduate, with a much higher capacity of intelligence than McCAIN. No question about that.
So, whatever McCain thinks OBAMA doesn´t know yet or needs to know OBAMA, will know when he becomes president. The real problem is, however, given the situation where both of these men will have the right information as Presidents, there is no question in my mind, OBAMA´s cirteria of decision is superior by far to McCAIN´S.
MCCAIN now wants to tangle and corner OBAMA into petty commentary and arguments because McCAIN can´t do it–simply can´t–on his own as Senator McCAIN. I never knew McCAIN existed, until he became a candidate for the office of the Presidency.
OBAMA has more personality and charisma something extremely important in foreign policy and with foreign leaders as Reagan had the Star power too. OBAMA is intelligent and will make beter deisions than McCAIN whose prejudices and narrow views have followed him to his senate seat.
McCAIN is just one more odd, uncultured, Washingtonian politician serving more of the same.
McCAIN the PAIN to come if elected President. This is not a joke.
Brittanicus……… get your view straight. illegals from south of the border are NOT invading this sovereign country, they are being BAITED in by cheap employers who are trying to profit maximize by hiring the cheap labor. there is no other real incentive for them being here since most will always be hiding in fear of being deported. punish low budget employers and watch the cheap labor force decline. OH!…but remember!, prices on goods and produce will rise! …..hmmm. what to do?
You Wack-o-Cons are worried about Obama’s vacation when your own savior in chief ,Bush, has taken more Vacation time than any other prez? I think the most interesting one was the 4 week vacation he took right before 9-11 after “working” (and I mean that in the looses terms possible) for only 7 months.
You guys need to get a grip and a life! Obama takes a one week vacation after 16 months of work. What a slacker he must be.
jorge garrido…… the fact that you didnt know who McCain was before this election shows that your opinion and/or knowledge is invalid. i think you’re on the Obama Hope bandwagon. i wouldnt be surprised if you were also a new england patriot fan before they lost the superbowl.
Why do McCain supporters always make up outrageous accusations without facts?
Probably because the facts would always make the Republican candidate look like a total schmuck. Like W. citing WMDs for a war…
Proper tire inflation for the entire U.S. fleet does equal more savings in oil than provided by offshore drilling. This is basic math.
If McCain wants to win — he is definitely on the right track by slinging stupid ads and accusations because God help him if they ever debate about facts. He will revert back to that long pause “Um, what was the question again?” approach which looks awful on TV.
Anyways — fortunately most Americans aren’t interested in the truth anymore. I hope he picks Voldemort as his running mate.
mr. mccain should go to youtube to see all the lies and contradictions he’s put forth, before casting aspersions on his brighter, better educated, and more articulate opponent. Besides, where was he when so many votes were cast by the senate, particularly on matters of energy?
It really is not mr. obama’s fault that he, unlike grandpa mccain, had to pull himself up by his bootstraps from a far less-than-privileged background. while mccain was behaving like an irresponsible party boy, obama was pushing his way up the socio-economic ladder.
the only thing going for grandpa mccain is his wife cindy, who has proved that she cares about the plight of the underprivileged. my only question is why a rich trophy wife ended up with an anachronism who has what appears to be an abscessed tooth. The old geezer, who’s contributed very little to this country other than a rehashing of bush policy, really lucked out with her.
let’s not forget that this is the same creep who ridiculed the appearance of chelsea clinton when she was in an awkward phase of adolescence. that sort of low and dirty remark warrants comment on his own decrepit appearance.
America deserves a president like McCain. These radical voters sound just like the voters from 2000 and 2004. If America hasnt learned her lesson yet, my hopes is that we continue down this path until we get what we are asking for. Change sometimes take a catastrophe to happen and i believe McCain can provide that for the American people. We still love negative down and dirty politics. We are still cynical and hate someone who has hope and vision for a new future. These same people were calling Martin Luther King a radical, these same people were on McCarthy’s side when Communism was big etc. McCain and his wife were privelaged at birth but someone Obama is an elite?? America can treat this like a rival sports game if we want to but our families will suffer because of it. This isnt Boston Celtics vs. L.A. Lakers, Boston Red Sox vs. N.Y. Yankees where you have to pick a team and stay on it no matter how bad they are. This is our lives and idiots are still siding with the Bush doctrine because they feel like being a republican is more important than being an American. God Bless. lol
McCain is foolish to mock Obama for suggesting things like properly inflated tires, low-consumption light bulbs, turning down the heat and air conditioning, taking mass transit…But McCain is a foolish man and he is betting we are a nation of fools…He may win his bet…A.D.

You need to learn how to write English. First hint stop using so many comma’s.
i wonder if obama will go on vacation ala george bush before 911. i wonder if he can handle the pressure of being the pres. of the U.S.A in this very trying and and dire situation our country is in now. i hope we won’t have a pres. lolling around while the country is in turmoil. he seems to take off when pressure on him is a tad tight. he’s young and he doesn’t seem to have endurance.— and they chide mccain for being too old. funny.
John McCain I can trust to do the right thing, even if it hurts for a time.
Obama I have a problem with. What’s his real adjenda? Can we trust him? I don’t think so.
We’re all suffering burnout.
Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama were on the trail too long
McCain and Obama
Bottom line is , you either want four more years of what we already have
Or you want CHANGE
Now, the question is this: Will John McCain even last another four years
And Joh McCain’s words mean everything.
Just ask his first wife.
What was Ronald Reagan’s celebrity status before he was elected president??
How many days off did Dubya take as president?? In his first 2 years the dude spent 252 days at or en route to the presidential retreat of Camp David or at the Bush family estate in Kennebunkport, Maine or his Crawford, Texas ranch compared to 152 days off for Clinton’s entire presidency!!
Obama deserves some time off. While he was campaigning against Hillary, what was Mccain doing?? Taking a break!!
ditto jorge garrido.
Obama:
American Idol: yes/maybe
United States president: NO!
Now Obama says he is for the lower incomes, family, energy reforms, and fixing social security so why did he vote no this year on those issues he claims he is for? I am just curious as to why he says he is for all these. You really need to know your man.
McSame. Name calling. I can top that. Black Odrama, or Black Osama, the freshman senator from Wright/Winfrey. The Al Sharpton of Chicago. Strong supporter of black racist preacher Jeremiah Wright (contributes to collection and attended church spewing anti-white and anti American Black Liberation Theology for 20 plus years with his anti-American racist wife).
This race is already over. Most Americans are rightfully insulted by this charade and blatant liberal media creation. As shown in recent polls, and as shown in the crucial swing states rejection during the Dem primaries the core of America outside the liberal strongholds will choose John McCain.
Those 60 million acres of leased land all you liberals keep talking about regarding how the oil companies are not drilling so why give them more… IT’S BECAUSE THE LEASE DOES NOT ALLOW THEM TO PRODUCE THE OIL, ONLY FIND IT!!!
Stop reading CNN, NBC and do your research!!!
Greetings! Has anyone thought about the price of the battery for the hybrid vehicle and the cost to keep it up. What about the warranty and the catches. The hybrid may save a little on gas, but the cost of the battery and upkeep is outrageous. To compare buying a hybrid to drilling oil and saying it is the same is insane. Please make American aware of this.
Clinton Supporter! Voting Republican unless she is Vice President.

You have got to be kidding. The guy couldn’t even pass my college speech class with all the Uh, Uh, well, uh, ya know, uh. He sounds like a dim whit when he’s not reading a promter. What a joke.
Hillary runs circles around this guy and I’m not even a Dem.
You Dems really know how to pick’em. Uh, Uh , ya know , Uh, If Americans would only inflate their tires we could save just as much oil as we could drill. What an idiot. Who the hell does he think he’s talking too? 75-80% Americans already do this, even before high gas prices.
Go McCain or Hillary ‘08
Anyone but Obamanation
I SEE THE FOX NEWS PEOPLE EVEN REVIEW THE STUFF BEFORE IT HITS THE BLOG. SUCH A FIXED NETWORK. GOOD LUCK IN THE OBAMA ERA. HE JUST MIGHT HAVE YOUR BROADCASTING RIGHTS REVOKED.
I think Obama’s inflating your tire as an energy policy is really silly to say the least. The simplest question to every voter is how many drivers are driving with flat tires? It is getting even silly for Obama to claim that inflating your tires is ABSOLUTELY equal to all off shore drilling and within 10 years he can completely make US independent from foreign oil. McCain’s “The one” Ad is right on the spot for Obama with all big talk without any substances. No wonder Democrats feel hurt by the Ad. When November comes, the majority of American people will not trust this empty man can lead our great country.
we need vacation from borok. country tiered of him. he is produsing enough hot air to inflate all the tires in the world, including bikes.
Mr. hesingswithfrogs…I don’t know from where your inflated facts were derived but it’s obvious that you truely believe them. To realize ” an immediate 292 million barrels of oil per year reduction” you would have to assume that everyone ( 60+ million vehicle on the road) is driving around with improperly inflated tires. I for one did not need the MESSIAH to tell me about proper tire inflation because Mario Andredi has been telling us to “Check Your Tires” for quite some time now.
Everybody loves a novelty and that is exactly what Obama is. Let’s face facts; Obama has 143 days of real experience (from the day he took office to the time he turned his attention to campaigning). It would be hard for a McDonald’s employee to make manager in that amount of time and we want to elect Obama to the most important job in the world? He has no track record of effectiveness and no ideas that hold a resemblance to reality.

Obama’s words are very misleading. He did say inflate keeping your tires inflated and the taking care of your car is the silver bullet for our engery problem.
Then she says i will consider drilling?
Obama what is your REAL engery policy? I see something new almost every week.
“Misleading” should be the middle name for Obama…he misleads at every turn whether his superfical energy program for “independence” when in reality it will totally fail and continue to make us “dependent” as the dems desire this nation to be….to misleading on the “true costs to everyone” on his tax plan….to misleading on the “open borders he and Soros and Pelosi desire…to misleading on the “battle ogn terror” and not the “war on terror”; thinking this vital conflict can be handled as a police action when all know this is a proven failure already demo’d with the first twin tower bombing…..misleading on the iraq troop surge; even when shown the exceptional results from thr surge Obama continues to “totally deny” it was a significant player is the great turn around for the government….misleading on hios ture background; read “The Obama Nation” on Obama’s very radical roots and associations…..misleading the socialism is the required form of government necessary for the USA to progress into the 21st century; socialism has failed in multiple countries and Obama/Pelosi/Soros desire immediate embracing of this backward/anti-democratic form of government which will result in major economic trundown this nation has ever experienced outside the great depression…..the misleading that if you tax the economic drivers of this nation more that they WILL SPEND MORE>>totally wrong and business and employment will suffer……………on and on…….Obama misleads greatly and the voters must see this before the election for he and his operatives/Soros/Pelosi are all creating a perfect storm for the USA’s future.
It really does not matter where Obama stands on an issue today because just like the weather in Maine if you don’t like it today you only need wait till tomorrow because it will surely change.I wonder if this is what he means when he uses the word CHANGE in every sentence. As far as vacation time he has been on vacation for years just look at his history in the senate.
hesingswithfrogs,
Thanks for stating the facts. Even when the truth is right in there face they are still convinced by lies. Its sad.
KC,
What are you talking about and show you some facts to back up your statements.
Dems don’t watch FOX news because it’s “Fair and Balanced” so they are basically on this message board to bash McCain. The Dems have stooped to an all time low. Obama is losing ground and the only thing they can do is bash McCain because their candidate doesn’t have a record or any policies to stand on. Obama has flip flopped on just about every issue, so now the Dems are lying about McCain. Poor Dems, you thought this election was wrapped up when the main-stream media decided to have a love fest with your candidate and plastered his face all ove the news 24/7.
Go ahead all you racits vote for Mcain and get us four more Years of Bush. Suppose you think Mcains billionaire beer wife, will put gas in your car, put food on the table, make your house payment, you sure dont have to worry about getting your drugs, cindy knows how to get them.

You are not really that ignorant of the difference between education and experience are you? Does this mean that if I graduate from a top of the line college I am able to lead a major company to success in the boardroom, the military in a war, the country? No, it takes more then just the ability to pass a written test, it takes experience. with you particular views and thoughts we should be able to select a president based only on their GPA. If you and others truely believe this, you realy need to go outside once in a while, see the sun and how the real world works. Maybe even look at the number of tires that have the proper amount of air before you start deciding the amount of money it will save. Of course an educated man can simple provide some estimate that looks good regardless of the accuracy.
For all you McCain supporters visit

I cant understand how anyone could vote McCain. If you want the opportunity to debate let me know. Please dont bring up flag pins or anything else that wont effect anyone of us. Bring up real issues. There isnt one issue that McCain has a logical solution for.
McCain can make a “valid” claim that Obama will “raise” taxes because eliminating the Bush “tax cuts” will in fact cause most in the middle class to pay more.
This is because Bush actually raised middle class income taxes, but offered more deductions to reward those who invest portions of their incomes. Since most cannot afford the investments to realize meaningful tax savings, most of us pay more under the Bush plan. Eliminating the “Bush Tax Cuts” means eliminating those deductions, so the middle class would pay more taxes.
On that note, Obama wants to give the middle class a real tax reduction not one that is incentive based, so that ALL of us, not just a few, in the middle class can actually pay lower taxes.
Hes making fun of something that would actually work. Properly inflated tires and well tuned car can save you 7% or more on Gas. Imagine if the entire country did this. The demand for gas would plummet, and as a result, so would the price. Just take some time and do some actual research for once in your lives, god knows Fox News won’t do it for you (show me an article where they actually look into th viability of this). Isn’t this what you guys have been hammering Obama about anyways? The fact that he has no ‘quick fix’ solution for you? Now ONE of the solutions is ridiculed, even though McCain himself has said it would actually work.
I find it really amazing how people manage to justify every wrong thing that McCain does (which happens to be ALOT) while at the same time slamming Obama for the CORRECT things he does. I guess it really doesn’t matter anyways, considering you are probably the same people that elected Bush based on his false promises. Its easy for the RNC & Fox to put you in their pockets.
McCain is insulting the intelligence of the American voters with this nonsense. Do people actually believe this?
I am NOT proud to admit this, but I voted for W. in 2000, I was a Republican — then I started to PAY ATTENTION.
So here are the FACTS - and you can check them yourself at a NON-PARTISAN site:
- McCain is quite correct when he says that putting air in your tires is NOT the equivelent of off-shore drilling…if Americans would properly inflate their tires - it would actually save us more oil that drilling would net us … and it would do so in the immediate future (lower demand = more supply = lower prices) It sounds silly — which is why McCain is using it - but if you actually check it out - he is wrong. But hey, if you want to let him insult your intelligence - go ahead and believe it if it makes you feel better.
- Obama did NOT vote to RAISE taxes on people making $42,000 / year. He has said, repeatedly, that he would raise taxes only on those making OVER $250,000 - so if you are making over $250K, then you should justly be worried.
- In FACT - By 2009, under Obama’s plan, those making $37,595 would see an average increase in their income of 3.6%, or a tax cut of just under $900; those making an average of $66,354, would see an increase in their income of 2.4%, or a tax cut of just over $1,000. Under McCain’s plan, however, those making $37,595, would see an increase in their income of only 0.5%, or a tax cut of just over $100; those making 66,354, would see only an increase of 0.7% in their income, or a tax break of just over $300.
Don’t believe me? fine. Go look it up for yourself…don’t believe the pundits - look it up. There are several non-partisan research and fact checking sites on which you can do that for McCain AND Obama. My sources: Factcheck.org and taxpolicycenter.org
McCain is saying that Obama’s words are “Missleading”, at least Obama speaks clearly, and doesnt stumble over his own tongue. I don’t support anyone of these wing nuts.
Tell McCan’t to get his own plan first before he bashes the future president of the United States of the America. Especially, when he had a public service announcement stating the same thing. He has no real plan for this country and it saddens me to see that some people think he will help this country. I guess you are the same people who voted for Bush (twice). He laughed at the notion that tire gauges would help…and this is who you want for President. That shows me he doesn’t care about the American people. Wake up McCan’t supporters…this is the best you can do. Bush used the same campaign against Kerry and Gore and look where that has gotten us. Tell your candidate to run a real campaign that will improve America. Brittney, Paris, Moses! Are you kidding me!
Just check Obama’s resume haters, then decide.
Pasha: What facts are you talking about that you would like debated? Taxes? Obama, as any idiot lib, would raise your taxes. McCain, on the other hand, would lower your taxes. Energy? Inflated tires vs a sound policy THAT INCLUDES NUCLEAR, COAL AND OIL? National defense? Run like the wind, AKA “The French Strategy” or kick their ass until we win? Yes, you are so right Pasha, I am awaiting this debate as well. Oh, by the way, why is it that your annointed orator refused townhall meetings? Oh, yes, it is because Barry’s views, if actually articulated, would scare off those on the fence.
8 MORE YEARS!
RESPONCE TO RUDY NYC
I TAKE IT THAT YOU ARE AN EXPERT ON WHERE OIL IS .LOOK IT IS PROVEN THERE IS OIL WHERE THE OIL COMPANYS WANT TO DRILL JUST NOT HOW MUCH.SO IF YOU ARE FOR CHINA WHICH IS 50 MILES OFF THE FLORDIA COAST TAPPING INTO AND SHIPPING WHAT SHOULD BE AMERICAN OIL BACK TO CHINA YOU ARE EITHER RICH OR YOUR DADDY PAYS FOR YOUR GAS.
HEY JORGE G WHEN COMAIRING OBAMA TO REAGAN REMEMBER REAGAN HAD A BACKBONE AND OBAMA HAS YET TO SHOW ONE
Senator Obama’s comment about maintaining the proper tire pressure in your car underlines the fundamental premise of his campaign-to reengage the American people back into the political process.
Think about this; do you really think that the government has the sole responsibility of solving the oil crisis? NO! We, the American people, have to do our part also. That’s what Senator Obama is saying. This has been one of the central themes of his campaign. Many of you fail to realize this yet you allow yourselves to feed into the Republican distortion machine.
Senator Obama espoused this view before when he said that we, the American people can help mitigate the problems associated with immigration by learning a new language. This was by no means an attempt to dismiss immigration reform, yet the Republicans spin it as so and many of you lambs (oops, I mean people) believe the spin and as a result, Obama’s point is distorted.
Now I know many of you will read this thread and immediately conclude that I’m an Obama supporter and dismiss the content. That’s fine, Democracy at its finest hour. But if your politics, your political ideological beliefs are supported and substantiated by distortions, mis-characterizations and demonizations, then you are no better than the politicians in those rogue countries that engage in this type of political brainwashing.
Don’t be brain dead…….common sense will prevail in 2008
If Obama is elected most of will be riding bikes like in China. And these solarized homes, who do you think will be required to pay for that, each homeowner will have to comply with the requirements setforth by the law. If you have to take out a loan to comply by ten years too retorfit your home with solar and buy an electric car, this could set famlies back for years. It would be like buying a whole new house. I dont want government regulating the temp on my air conditioner and I dont want government telling me what car too drive. I prefer my cherry 57 Chevy, that’s my right.
In regards to the frogs comment I pasted! U too are throwing numbers out there that make absolutely no sense!!! You must be an OBAMAmite! Get a life, and elect a REAL and EXPERIENCED leader my friend!

August 7th, 2008 at 4:16 pm “He actually thinks that raising taxes on oil is going to bring down the price at the pump.” Here, McCain is misstating Obama’s policy.
Why do certain politicians and commentators downplay and even ridicule conservation as an effective force? Recently the price of oil dropped. Why? because people are driving LESS and using LESS gas. They are also buying smaller cars. Freeways in southern California have been less clogged, (from 5-10 percent). That means less time on the road, less fuel consumed, less air pollution, less wear and tear on our roads.
why? because individuals are finally ,out of necessity, conserving. by lessening their driving. For most, our wallets have finally made us act, but the result is the same,we are conserving, whether we want to or not. and it is showing us some rather amazing and immediate results! Though we are learning the hard way, we are also seeing that we can make a difference. conserving fuel=lower prices=other good results. conserving seems like a win/win to me.
Ridiculing conservation is both irresponsible and counterproductive.
just look at what has happened over the last few months.we have saved BILLIONS of gallons of fuel, one individual at a time. now THAT is impressive. and i, puny American citizen , AM contributing to the effort.. I AM using my tire gauge, tuning up my engine, walking, busing, and driving less. Why do John McCain and
swaggering pundits want to make fun of the American citizen for contributing our efforts..I think they are coming off like total buffoons.
i would vote mccain over obama anyday he is a liar
This tire pressure thing is really amazing. Does Obama think we are a bunch idiots. You learn this in Drivers Ed 101. I would hope that most Americans are already doing this and everything we can to save on gas. We need something significant that is a “new idea”. Of course that would be asking a bit much from a puppet. He would actually need to be able to think first!
