DNC: McCain is a “maverick no more”

It only took a few hours but the folks at the DNC have dug up some more timely quotes where all the Democrats shown previously praising McCain in his campaign video are attacking the presumptive GOP nominee for his recent shift to the right.

Well, I think at this point everybody knows that the Dems are going to pile on and say nasty things about McCain to prop up Obama; their parties nominee.

The effectiveness of the McCain ad is it’s like a statement that is blurted out without forethought. That is to say, these kind of statements, in a court of law, hold weight as it is thought that they reveal ones true feelings.

Therefore, at a time when McCain was just another guy they all had nice things to say about him. You can’t un-ring a bell, to be sure.

What is their position on Obama’s shift to the middle from the left?

Comment by The Professor

John McCain is truly a “maverick” Republican, regardless of what the highly prejudiced DNC [that's the DEMON-CRAT National Commitee, for those who not know] claims or tries to get one to believe. But let’s take a serious look and compare John McCain’s record to the mainstream Republican positions. Obviously, he is NOT a true conservative, but a renegrade “moderate”. However, compared to the socialist [can you say:'Marxist"] Obama, John McCain is the ONLY choice for conservatives. While he is not their first choice, he is, by far, the better if the two choices. One can only hope he picks a running mate with staunch conservative credentials and national stature to help swing the independents and “undecided’s” to his side, as well as the disillusioned Democrats and the impassioned followers of Hillary Clinton. In fact, those who are truly worried about the type of “CHANGE” that Obama proposed might find that the “change” that John McCain would bring is much more to their liking and more in line with the “America” they love and want to see maintained, namely as society based on free-enterprise and limited government regulation or interference. In the event of an Obama presidency, you would end up with a more socialistic goverment, higher taxes on nearly everyone, higher prices, and much higher cost of energy including gasoline - if you can even avoid rationing, as we had under Jimmy “the peanut farmer” Carter - undoubtedly one of the

Admit it DEMS, you got “got” on the positive statements ad and now you want to undo or “unsay” what you originally had to say about McCain. Leave it alone. Take you beating and find something else to attack McCain on. One thing though, have notice the quality of McCain ads becoming very effective while the DEMS seem to be reacting to them. Way to go John. Hilary is correct, McCain has worked and lived in service while the “stuttering Mesiah” made a speech. A speech written for him.

I swear I’m almost ashamed to have been a Democrat for the past 20 years with the way they have acted the past 2 years. (especially Dean, Pelosi and Reid, who I once admired greatly) Now they want to show their own flip-flopping on a candidate. *Rolls Eyes*

Well, I guess they do need practice, they’re going to be doing alot of it with NObama. This election is ridiculous.

I want Hillary back.

~Proud PUMA for Clinton or McCain.

Its funny to see how it doesn’t matter WHAT the DNC does they always end up getting caught under the grinding wheel of the GOP. I am a TRUE independent that voted for Gore and Kerry and could not STAND Bush. But I LOVE McCAIN! He is what our country needs at a time like this. I was so dissapointed that he got caught under that wheel in SC but I think it was for a reason cause WE NEED McCAIN NOW!! I was SO UPSET to watch Kerry get grinded but now I REGRET voting for that WEASLE!! As Lynyrd Skynyrd says “BIG WHEELS KEEP ON TURNING!”

The best part I like is true biased people are saying the bias things in their opinions. McCain has truly done nothing to help this country during this Republican Bush era. So what he offers is another 4yrs of Bush. I gave him a chance and he truly has done nothing for my race or any other race in this country. What change can he bring, none I see. We need the economy back in stable conditions and all he talks about is the oil and the other candidate. Which means he is another Bush nothing less. No person can proved to me what he actually done other be captured as a POW when I wasn’t born and my grandfather whom served during the sametime he did which was at the same disadvantage because of his race and his kids he had to take care of. I believe we need a solution to help our country out rather each candidate especially McCain tearing another down. The Maverick days are over and its a different generation. Time to sit down and retire not sit in office as another McBush.

Good stuff, esp Shrill at the end. McCain qualified, Obhamas NOT anyway near qualified, VERY bad policies & plans & yes even sinister in the middle of Islam fanatic war - he comes out of nowhere & beats the Clintonistas. You have to wonder who is pulling the purse strings for him.

Comment by Analyst

Professor, WELL STATED. Any person that has survived war and above that P.O.W. is WAY over-qualified for ANYthing. That is the ultimate test of so many qualities we need in a TRUE LEADER.

Comment by Michael from Atlanta

McCain the Maverick won the Repbulican nomination. Now that he is flip-floping in favor of the failed Bush policies, he is becoming no more than a puppet of the RNC.

McCain should have learned his lesson. The last time he flirted with the conservatives, he was almost counted out of the Republican race. When he and Joe Lieberman got together, he became the Maverick again and won the Nomination. And Now, he is currently caving to the pressure from the conservatives. He knows that Bush and his conservatives advisors mishandled the war and inflicted great harm to his party and our country. He is now more focused on fixing the Republican brand than is he wanting to do what he thinks is best for our country. It is sad to see partisan politics destroy a Real Maverick.

Comment by Sean the thinker

To El Cid:

Don’t confuse substantive attacks on McCain’s political ideology with nasty character attacks. There was nothing nasty or mean spirited said about McCain from the Democrats.

No attempt was made to associate him with the actions or words of others; no attempt was made to disparage the character of his wife

The only thing negative that was said about McCain was regarding his legislative voting record-how it is aligned with Bush.
Hopefully, the Republicans will engage in the same type of fair play and stick to the substantive issues only.

Comment by Dave

McCain USED TO BE A MAVERCK. A maverick does not offer his wife for a topless competition, a maverick does not call his wife a ***t in public, a mzverick does not have friends that say women should enjoy rape, a maverick is not arrogant, a maverick does not use religion to get negative message out, a maverick does not go against women right for equal pay, a maverick does not leave 8,000 DHL employees with out a job, a maverick does not receive money from oil companies, a maverick does not say tasteless jokes , a maverick does not take money from non-residents, a maverick does not vote against healthcare issues that are for the good of Americans, and on it goes. McCain did a good for his coutry years ago, this maverick no longer the same. Sad but true, he forgot how to be one, when 26 years went by in Washington. He became one of them. We do not recognize him. He has Davis/Rove speaking for him, they do not let him even speak to the press. Now Obama takes a vacation, God only knows what gaffes McCain will make now. OBAMA 08

McCain’s record shows that he is the true bi partisan candidate for President. He has a proven record of working across the isle and of disagreeing with his own party on issues. Obama has voted 98% of the time with his party. In this election I think it is important to put parties aside and look for who can work with anyone to fix the problems. McCain is that person.
This Dem will be voting for America, the best country in the world, by voting for McCain.

Comment by the southern dem

Anyone who tried to do what McCain attempted with illegal aliens is truly a maverick…he just about lost his entire shirt on that one working ACROSS parties and yet lost….Obama has nothing that comes anywhere close to what McCain did, what he risked and lost in the process….and yet I congradulate him for his efforts. What is most disturbing is the near total turning of the back by hispanics on McCain for the efforts he did and the political capital McCain lost to try to fix the problem….this group does not seem to give him credit for any of his efforts….and simply go for Obama…can not see the forest thru the trees and the empty suit Obama is.

John McCain has a proven and fairly consistent track record over 22 years, in other words, people know him at what to expect from him. While Obama touts change all over people realize that change for change sake isn’t necessarily good. Obama is green as green can be. His short history have shown him to be very liberal in his voting and while people may want change what Obama offers may be a little to much of a pendulum swing in a direction that is contrary to what made this country great in the first place.

The Professor,

Before you criticize or demean the DNC or Obama and prop up McLame,

How would you explain the “maverickness” of John McCain when he switched his position on off-shore oil drilling after he had received $1.3 million in contributions to his campaign from the oil companies?

Also, how is McCain more experienced in foreign policy in today’s world? The president of Iraq supported Obama’s plan for troop withdraw. The world leaders on his trip abroad have all in some fashion said that they look forward to working with Obama.

Lastly, about that “civil-campaign” McCain wanted to run? If you cant trust somebody to keep his campaign promises in his campaign, How can you possibly trust him to lead you for the next 4 years? We’ve seen this kind of campaigning and twisting of facts before. You shouldn’t even need a history lesson-its been this way for the last 8 years.

Its not a sin to take a serious, unbiased look at the opposing candidate. I encourage it. I’ve looked at http://www.johnmccain.com and you should look at http://www.barackobama.com before you rush to judgement one way or the other.

Comment by Jenny J

As for McCain, he’s been an effective senator for 20 + years. He votes his head in the best interest of the country. We can trust him, even though we may not always agree with him.

But Obama is another story. He lies constantly. He points the accusing finger at his detractors to cover his own incompetence. When that doesn’t work, he screams “RACIST” at the top of his lungs. And his socialist politics are not wanted, not needed and bad for America. Barack Obama is scary.

It’s time for the DNC and others to let McCain know what time it is! He deserves anything that comes his way. Had respect for him once. No MORE!!!

I can not believe there are so many of you out there who still believe the garbge being fed to you by the republicans. Do you not see that it is a party that is only interested in their wealth and not yours? The whole point of this ad is to try to show people use to respect McCain. Now all of his areas he opposed the republicans he is now marching along right in line what what he is being told to believe. The old McCain would have probably made a good President. This one is ready to work for the same Republican machine that has led our country to where it is today- high gas prices (nice closed door energy meetings Cheney!), high unemployment, 17% decrease in the stock market this year, mortgage meltdown, big bank buy outs, etc., etc, etc. Wake up people- you are believing the words being fed to you by the corporations! We need a new party!

Professor, the problem is Washington. These politicians go into Washington and end up making a career off regulating laws that benefit them and not the people. America wants to take Washington back and get the lobbyists out. So go ahead use your vote on the “Maverick” who has apparently been taken over by lobbyists and wants to give more tax cuts to the fortunate so they can spend money on there mistresses, instead of creating more jobs for Americans.

McCain a Maverick, he used to be.

Comment by RIChris

It would take a lot more than showing DEMOCRATS badmouthing John McCain to sway any votes. The alternative is Obama. Enough said.

An ad showing Democrats changing their minds. What’s so unusual about that?!?

Comment by Jimmy

Does anyone else realize the cost of oil is so high because we helped to destabalize the middle east with our invasion of Iraq. We also pushed Iran into a position of power while we were at it. If we were being responsible the first time around, none of us would be in this position today. How can we trust McCain to bring the cost of oil down. It is just a matter of time before he has us in another war. Listen to his comments. He would invade Iraq again today because Saddam was “petro-dictator.” These are his words people. He wants to go after whoever has oil. It’s time to wake up! Middle class as we know in the United States is over if we continue to support the same politicians who have gotten us into this mess.

The power hungry socialist Dem/DNC will fabricate all conceivable and immagineable lies to try to discredit a much more qualified opponent in order to buy the office of presidency for their phony elite celebrity puppet.

Obama has yet to reveal any qualifications he has for the office of president.
Change, multi-lingual (English, Spanish, French, German, etc.), age, race, heritage, racist, religion, elite, celebrity, frequent flip-flop on issues, friends and associates (Wright, Ayers, Jackson, Sharpton, etc.), and ivy league education are not qualifications.

Artificial intelligence is no substitute for natural ignorance.

John McCain is such a Maverick that he wants his wife to dance semi naked in front of all these biker. He is disrespectful to his wife and woman in general. When you consider that the Dems (Dims) use a donkey (jackass) as their party symbol and have the likes of Polesi, Reed and Dean, it’s no wonder that they will try anything to tear down Sen McCain. Obama is Carter part two and the Dems know it and it scares the hell out of them.
Well…..their stuck with him now. How all those Dems could back a two year Sen (his only claim to fame) boggles the mind. Clinton would have been the better choice. I quess Obama was the lastest fashion trend in the Dem party. When Obama loses, it is going to be great to watch the Dems implode.

Obama never claimed to be among the far-left, so his “shift” is viewed as a compromise, not a flip-flop. McCain stinks, pure and simple. It doesn’t take a genious to find out who the Statesman is, when the question
come about the situation now. Senator McCain calls for a cease fire and talks
after Georgia invaded that little country who declared independence several
years ago. Senator Obama on hearing about Georgia invading that little
country and slaughtering people. Senator Obama statement was somthing
to the effect Russia should respect the integrety of Georgia’s territory.
The sum of his knowlege equates to if he was President when Kuwait was

Strong supporter of black racist preacher Jeremiah Wright (contributes to collection and attended church spewing anti-white and anti American Black Liberation Theology for 20 plus years with his anti-American racist wife).

This race is already over. Most Americans are rightfully insulted by this charade and blatant liberal media creation. As shown in recent polls, and as shown in the crucial swing states rejection during the Dem primaries the core of America outside the liberal strongholds will choose John McCain.

John McCain is a maverick! That is just what the country doesn’t need. George Bush has been a go it along maverick and look what it has got us. We are totally out of control, in debt, infrastructure crumbling, and we have lost our position in the world. The American people deserve much more than 8 more years of George Bush policies. John McCain doesn’t have any new ideas, just George Bush policies. There is absolutley no justification to continure George Bush’s policies. There is not logic that can justify letting the Republicans have control of this country again. By the Republicans own admission they have lost their way and their principles.

Vote wisely!

McCain has been in beholden to lobbyist since the time of his banking scandals as part of the Keating 5. Mccains believes in the one hand washes the other style. Former Sen Gramm ” America is a nation of whiners” fame who is one of the biggest lobbyist there is. Gramm, Mccain & the Republicans when they were in the Senate Majority, created and passed laws which deregulated & loosened controls of the Banking and Energy industries. Which resulted in the current crisises now befalling America such as the mortgage crisis, uncontrolled speculation in the Energy resulting in the collapse of Enron and the of astrnomically high cost not to mention the current bank failures. McCain is to beholden to lobbyist, I am not convinced he would put America’s intersts ahead of his lobbyist friends. Take for example McCain’s help in overturning the largest Military Aircraft tanker contract awarded to Boeing and awarded it to EADS (European). According to lobbying records filed with the Senate, Loeffler Group lobbyists on the project included Loeffler and Susan Nelson, who left the firm and is now the campaign’s finance director. The Ogilvy lobbyist John Green, who was assigned the EADS work, recently took a leave of absence to volunteer for McCain as the campaign’s congressional liaison.

And now McCains son is involved in his own banking scandal. The apple never falls to far from the tree!

The fallout from the Silver State Bank fiasco continued on Friday as the company announced a wider-than-expected quarterly loss and CEO Corey Johnson resigned. Johnson’s resignation follows the resignation of Board of Directors’ member Andrew McCain, who was on the bank’s Auditing Committee. McCain is the son of presumptive Republican presidential candidate John McCain. McCain and Johnson’s departures came on the heels of resignation of one of the bank’s executive vice-presidents, who left just two months ago.

Silver State Bancorp (SSXB.O), the bank’s holding company, announced a net loss for the second quarter $62.7 million, or $4.15 a share, compared with a profit of $6.2 million, or 44 cents a share, a year earlier. Analysts had expected a loss of 65 cents a share. The company also said that it was suspending its share repurchase program, not a huge surprise since they announced that they need to raise another $40 million in capital just to survive. Since the share price has dropped over 95% in the past year (almost 90% since McCain joined the bank), and is down another 15% just today (trading at just over one dollar), raising capital through the sale of shares could be disastrous for shareholders who have already been hit hard by the bank’s financial problems.

Although the bank today blamed most of their financial woes on loan losses, which ballooned from $1.9 million a year ago to $58.6 million during the last quarter, it was their involvement with one of the largest financial frauds in history that has raised serious questions about the bank’s business practices. An article on The Faulking Truth, entitled Silver State Bank: What’s Deposited in Vegas Doesn’t Stay in Vegas details the bank’s shady involvement in the defrauding of over 50,000 shareholders in the CMKM Diamonds scam. The story has since been widely circulated on the internet, including news sites such as What Really Happened and the Huffington Post.

The lobbyists are in control of McCain’s Campaign! These are the results of the Mccains and the Republican Good Ole boy economics!

Mccain voted against relief for the average home owner caught up in the Chaos they caused, however he voted for relief of banking & mortgage companies!

When the Republican nominee for president uses praise from Democrats in his campaign ads, it’s a sad commentary on the state of his party. When the Democrats whose favor he seeks reject him and recant their praises, it shows just how ideologically and politically bankrupt the nominee really is.

Comment by cathy noonan

there are a lot of comparisons to McCain now that Edwards’ affair is outed. Yet McCain married the woman he was involved in, even if they did get involved while McCain was married. If Edwards were to leave his wife and marry the woman he was involved with, that would be more similar to McCain.

Comment by Pam

Where are the republicans regrding John McCain’s shift from Maverik to far right all of a sudden? McCain’s changes are not to the liking of many Americans who ask themselves if they are better off now than they were eight years ago. Amnesia is not running rampant during this election cycle because those who were so quick to vote for Bush are suffering in ways they least expected. This economy was not suppose to effect “them”. Having a beer with the nominee is not the big litmus test of 4-8 years ago.

Yes Mr. Edward was wrong, but his wife has forgiven him. So I think the Media should just back of and let this famil along.
Now if the Media want to talk about a sex scandal, McCain is the man they should be talking about. Just go back to how he treated his wife Carol and how he ran around with Cindy. And left his wife and children when they really needed him. For as I am concern this man isn’t fit to hold any kind of Officer. He is as low as snake. Atleast Mr. Edwards is standing by his wife in her time of need, and taking care of their children.

Back of Media nad leave Mr. Edward and his family along.

Mr. McCain is no Maverick, he nothing anytime a man leave his family(Carol) when they needed him the most.
At least Mr.Edwards is standing by him wife and family and her time of need, and I applause him for it.

Good luck to the Edwards family and God Bless.

the DNC and its cronies are disingenuos at best when they try to equate McCain with Bush! it seems that obama has more in common than McCain as far as his resume; the inexperience and the lack of ability to lead with out 300+ advisors and he never has served in the Military has no idea what war really is or has no substance in his foreign relation policies!

Comment by Big Red

There are more than two choices! I never want my vote to be misconstrued as supporting a moderate, neocon agenda. I’d be happier voting for a true conservative in November even if Obama gets the presidency. Hopefully the backlash in two years will be just what real conservatives need.

I don’t know what to think about the Republican and john mccain. I was under the impression this would be a good election after what mccain stated early but when you don’t have a strong position and a vision as to where you will lead this country the only other avenue he has is to make the public afraid and that obama is risky. I pray that the american public can see thru what mccain is saying and let it go in one ear and out the other. I truely believe if he didn’t have obama to talk about he wouldn’t have anything to say, i feel sad for him and the republicans who will follow him blindly only to wake up and see another four years of George Bush and that my friends we do not and i say again we do not need that for another four years. We need to move forward with new ideas and a new engery plan that will get us off of our dependence on oil. My name is Ray and i approve this message.

Whoever is president will inherit (thank you, Bush 43!) a monstrous deficit. That’s a major change from what Bsh 43 inherited himself! Let’s face it, EITHER candidate will have to raise revenue. How do you do that? Simple - raise taxes. It’s, as Sherlock Holmes would say, “Elementary, my dear Watson.”

Being the “maverick” he is, McCain had a duty to cheat on his 1st wife with Cindy. Now there’s nothing misleading about that folks! But all you McBush supporters shouldn’t complain, it’s open season on character bashing according to you all!

call him what you will, Personally if I had my choice I wouldn’t vote for him but considering the alternative I have no choice. Barik Shiek Obama has no clue how to run a proud and strong country such as the US. Having listen to him degrade this great nation which gave him so many oppurtunities jus discuss me. Mc Cain has given his whole life for this country, either in the right or wrong. What has Obama done besides having only 143 days of work under his belt, no energy plan to wing our addiction of foriegn oil or alternative energy.
I’m sure he will change that once they realize the polls are starting to swing. Mark my word…

Gotta run, my tires need inflating….”Can’t you see, I’m trying to save the Planet” I borrowed that qoute from our most treasured speaker of the house…Where do the dems find these people…Lets not forget that the congress has a record low approval rating…

Hey Ray,

Obama giving families a $1000 energy rebate will not only increase our dependence on oil but it will also will lead to a higher price at the pump. What is it about simple economics that most people can’t understand?
