Obama: Single Democratic Candidate Still Seeking Running Mate

Barack Obama is still on the market for a running mate today after veep speculators talked up a surprise announcement in Indiana today. The rumors were rampant because Obama was introduced by Evan Bayh, who is Indiana’s second term U.S. Senator, the state’s former governor, and allegedly on Obama’s shortlist for veep.

While staffers shot down rumors yesterday there would be a any such announcement in Elkhart, Obama and his staff have been tight lipped about his V.P. selection process, timing, and who is in the running. Obama pledged just a few days after securing the delegates necessary to win the nomination that the next time we heard something about his running mate would be at an announcement. Expecting a stealth move, press flocked to Elkart for Obama’s third town hall on energy in two days.

Bayh spoke for 12-minutes - went well over a typical introduction. Just yesterday Ohio’s Senator, Sherrod Brown, introduced Obama for a brief couple of minutes before the candidate emerged. In his audition speech, the Indiana senator talked up Obama’s energy plan and referred to the presumptive Democratic nominee as “a breath of fresh air.”

And while he’s no pit bull, Bayh attempted to throw a few punches at Obama’s opponent.  “John McCain is not a bad man, but he is badly mistaken when he has embraced the Bush and Cheney economic policies, and he is badly mistaken when he has embraced their energy policies. Someone was telling me this morning that Senator McCain yesterday that his solution to the American energy challenge was to ‘drill, drill, drill.’ Well it sounded a lot like my dentist to me,” Bayh said to a few chuckles.

The two senators were on stage together for the time it took for Obama to hug Bayh and walk to the podium. The Indiana senator then took a second row seat at the town hall while Obama said just one line about his introducer. “I would like everybody to give a huge round of applause to one of the finest U.S. senators that we have, Evan Bayh, your own,” Obama said.

It was, by most standards, a typical Obama campaign event. But to add to the buzz, Jim Margolis of Obama’s media team made a rare appearance on the road. Margolis oversees the production of video used in, among other things, Obama’s commercials.

It looks like Obama has settled on Tim Kaine from Virginia. That’s what that whole thing was about with all the media talk–it was a trial balloon. Obama wants to pick Kaine but was afraid the far left would pitch a fit about Kaine, so he wanted to see. Since the far left didn’t freak out it will be Kaine.

I don’t care who he picks. I’m not voting for Obama because I’m not convinced he’s a true American. What is wrong with the Democrat Party? I can think of at least ten other more experienced people I would rather vote for president. I will NOT vote for Obama. He has no experience and I question his patriotism.

I will not vote for McCain either. No vote this year. This election is disgusting.

Please, please pick John Edwards!

Such a wonderful family man — loyal to his wife and children.

Such a good environmentalist — living in his mansion.

So careful with his money — and his $1000 haircuts.

Please, oh please pick John Edwards!

As an old white woman I would really like to vote for Obama, but am less than enthused about the vp candidates currently being touted. I am tired of young white men getting all the rewards after women have done all the work.

Let me get this straight: Bayh introduced Obama, but there are no indications that it means anything. How exactly is this news? A real news organization should be ashamed of itself. Luckily Fox isn’t.

Comment by DJ in TX

Senator Bayh would be a good pick if Senator Obama decided to go that route.

Comment by TeeJ

Nice title, I suppose your next one will simply change the first name from Obama to McCain and then you’ll have a ready made template for the McCain version.
Your humor is pretty much as bad, as the McCain camp puts out. Sorry, I’m not impressed.

Obama…….what the hell is he doing? Everyone knows the only person that can keep him from losing the presidential bid is Hillary Clinton. If he doesn’t select Hillary, it will only valdidate to the American public that he in fact is not strong enough to follow his own judgement and will like other losers, be swayed by those who don’t have his best interest or that of the American people first. If he does not select Hillary, I like many of her supporters, will write her name on the ballot.

Bayh would be a great pick, low key from the right state and surrounding states, could create snowball effect, makes McCain really work Ohio and Pennsylvania

In my opinion, Obama should choose a male running mate, because he is already a minority and some people here are not ready to have a minority to be the US President, or a woman. So he choose a woman then, he would be putting into more un-electable term in November. I am a minority myself, I think I am ready to have a minority or a woman to be a US President, however, not all. My advice is a maile running mate is suitable for him.

I am not a member of either parties, however I will choose the one who help improving US economic, education and health care. Bineg a superpower, we have to strong education for our kids and in order to maintain this, we have to have good economic condition.

You hug Bayn and his $125 million in pork along with your $97 million in pork. And oh yeah use up our stratigic oil so if we do get attacked we have no back up and disarm our nukes and raise our taxes cause he plans on stopping that little tax break Bush put in where you get $500 per child if you are low income. Yeah got to love the guy. Go look up your guys voting for 2008.

By the way why should only the oil companies have a wind fall tax when WalMarts, Banking, KMart, Grocery chains, Pharmacutical comapanies and many other companies have a higher net profit than oil companies? So we tax the oil companies more and we the Americans pay for higher gas and the government get their hands on more money to waste. If you look at the off shore oil rigs that have made it threw how many huricanes now? And you do not see them from the shores. There are NOT oil spills, the oil spills come from the ships that are coming in from other countries. They want ethinal to be used and the truth is that ethinal is more leathal than gas is:

By now you may have heard of the economic questions regarding using corn for ethanol production, but less attention has been paid to the environmental impact of using ethanol as an alternative to gasoline. Is ethanol more of a pollutant than gasoline? Surprisingly, the science says yes.

According to our Expert, who holds a PhD in Biochemical Engineering, a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, and has over 40 years experience performing biotechnology, bioengineering, and bioprocess research, both ethanol and gasoline deliver the same amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere per gallon consumed. However, when compared on a per mile driven basis, burning ethanol actually produces 54% more CO2 as global warming pollutant than gasoline due to the fact that ethanol has lower fuel efficiency.

For the science buffs out there, the energy production produced by burning materials is proportional to the molecules of oxygen used. Here are the chemical formulas for the energy produced by burning octane via gasoline and by burning glucose via ethanol.

http://www.intota.com/docs/ethanol-pollution.asp

So why are the democrats wanting us to use it? Because they have an intrest in it.

How about Paris Hilton as VP - or would her firm positions on the issues overshadow Obama?

Comment by Tom Mc

I’ll say it again…Obama not picking Clinton as a VP, has a lot more behind it than ’slighting’ her, and the millions of voters who supported her.

Nan - you asked ‘why not pick Hilary’ and my response to you would be the many, many polls taken during the primary, that said most believed that Hillary would do anything, including things unethical, to get the presidency - the negative implications behind this are too astounding to note.

Also, for him to have riled her throughout the primary for being part of the ‘old republic’ that he is wanting to change, and then go ahead and pick her, that would be purely hypocritical.

And although Hillary is not Bill, Bill’s stinging un-endorsement ‘it can be argued that no one is ready to be president’, after a year of campaigning behind the premise that Hillary would be ready on ‘day one’, is a stark slap in the face to both Obama and the Dem party as a whole - for a former president to chastise his parties’ nominee like that, is unheard of, and has the potential to further damage their already tainted legacy - good luck in 2012 Hillary…you’re going to need it.

While many may think Hillary would be good on paper as a VP pick, the reality is much more dismal, and speaks to the dark sides of humanity. A Hillary pick for VP would spell certain demise for Obama’s hope to become president - or anything else.

KC,

Do you really need to be forcefed the facts? The repeal of the bush tax cuts…to people making over 250k. I’m sure a lot of low income citizens fall into that bracket. The SOR idea is based on the premise of replacing light sweet crude with heavier crude. Reports have show that blended ethanol gasoline mixes produce a reduced amount of CO2 emissions. It also helps us reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

Comment by kevin

KC ALmost everything you typed was just wrong and misinformed.
1. Banks are no where close to making wind fall profits. They are actually expiriencing record losses. So I dont even understand what your first sentence is talking about.
Then you could not spell ethanol correctly, although I agree with you and your coworker about ethanol.

Ask your PHD co worker how long it will take to develop the offshore infrastructure. Ask him as well how much China’s oil needs will increase in the next 10-15 yeras. Ask him what will happen to the us economy over the next 15-30 years if we continue to be dependant on oil. Finally ask him how much of Mccains inner circle is directly connected to oil companies. Then ask him if you are an oil company what is the last thing you want to see happen.

Comment by Bonnie St G

Mr. Obamonation wants to use the oil we are saving for an emergency. What do our planes, ships, tanks etc. use if we are attack and have nrecourse for fuel. Use your supposedly smart brain and Drill. Quit bending for Peloise.

Obama. is a poppi dog for Nancy Pelosi. There is no Country in the whole World that would betray the people that elect them like the Democrats do under Pelosi. We are paying outrageous prices for gasoline and sending billions and billions of dollars to the Islamist Countries that hate our guts. The biggest crime of all is that we do have abundant oil reserves but Obama has been told by Pelosi no drilling allowed. Drill Stupid, Drill Stupid. Drill Stupid.

TOM MC, you might want to lay off the Kool-aid. The only one who will DO ANYTHING to get in to the White House is the chosen one, and he has already done it illegally by fixing the caucuses, oh and lets not forget about your chosen ones sweet deal he made in Chicago letting public housing projects be “managed” by slumlords, all those poor people in Chicago who live in the government housing with no heat, broken windows, garbage rotting in the hallways, rats running through the wall that Obambi made possible by writing millions of dollars worth of grants to make his friends the slumlords like Rezko billionaires. Now that is a change I am sure all Americans are looking forward to, Oh yea…he likes the idea of $10 a gallon gas.

There is NO way true Americans will vote for you messiah. Oh my god I think I am going to barf!!!!! Get over it your candidate is fatally flawed………and for your obamabots that means he is unelectable…… I cannot wait for the Republicans to destroy him.

I cannot believe you idiots are so eager to sell out this country. If you want socialism or communism get the hell out of here and move to China they would love to control your life.

He’s having a hard time picking someone because he doesn’t want anyone stealing his spotlight. So he’s got to pick someone who is even less qualified than him or people are going to be asking why isn’t the VP candidate running for Pres instead.

Obama campaign purposely released the rumor to get more media coverage - they love the spotlight and will do anything to get it - and our ridiculous MSM always fall for the bait with the biased coverage.

I am sick of Obama’s face on the screen 24/7

Comment by Michael

I am not sure that Obama will even be the democratic nominee. If Florida and Michigan are seated at 100%, Hillary may call for a floor vote. Excluding the “super-delegates”, she would probably win the nomination. I see this as a real possibility. The DNC and the rest of the democratic leadership must be getting increasingly worried that Obama can’t “close the deal”. Obama’s inexperience and inflated ego weaken his campaign on a daily basis.

Obama peaked 3 months before the primaries were over. Bill Clinton knows this. Hilllary knows this. Even someone as dim as Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi know this.

If the democrats are really serious about winning the White House back, they will “go with the will of the voters” and let Hillary take the nomination that she earned in the popular vote.

NoBama ever!!! - great screen name by the way.

Fixing the caucuses??? Call the X-files! They’re in need of a good script after the last one - conspiracy theorists always find some way to drag their imaginations into an election. The reason that some may think so, is the fact that in caucuses, you have to vote out in the open - look at the non-caucus exit polls from the primaries. Those were skewed highly, because (at least this is what I feel), some folks may have been apprehensive to say they didn’t vote for Obama to a pollster, but let their opinions be known in the voting booth. Caucuses, there was no hiding.

Public Housing issues in Chicago??? First try living here before you make accusations you have no clue about. If any politician in this area can be charged with attempting to make the projects and slums (which by the way are mostly torn down by now) better for its residents, it’s BO and Mayor Daley. They’ve pushed to have these decrepid, flawed institutions destroyed - if you have to drive by them everyday like I do, you’ll know that this was for the best.

And talk about doing anything to win??? Obama’s not the one with the cop-out ‘all of the above’ strategy - which easily translates into ‘we’re all out of ideas, so we’ll try anything’. Also, any man who will try to sell-out his wife to a bunch of bikers (no offense to the bikers), or anyone else for that manner, by pimping her out for a topless pageant is really reaching for anything at this point. Not to mention the fact that he has opened up a dialogue with Paris Hilton in a historical (borderline hysterical) election season signifies this.

My original point being that good ole Hill and Bill will force their way (by whatever means necessary) into the White House, is still valid. Some of me hopes that McCain wins (or begins to start doing so in the polling), because it would certainly avoid any horrific outcomes. Our country is not ready for something like this, and everywhere (here in Chicago specifically), people would erupt to the level not seen since the ’60s. Either way, it’s shaping up to be an interesting election, and I just hope the outcome is not devastating.

Comment by Praetorian, Ft. Myers

Obama has hundreds of hispanic and black elected officials and governors to select from –but he won’t because the does not care who is best qualified–he needs a white woman to shore up the 18 million angry democrats–and it cannot be Hillary because the U.S. views her as more qualified.

Whats a candidate to do?
What is a voter to do?

Look further for someone to vote for–consider the 3rd largest party in the U.S.–Libertarians in 2008.

Libertarians are very happy congress has gone home–and the weak demonstration by the GOP who remain complaining in the dark in Congress–mean nothing…read on:
While Republicans threaten a government shutdown over a fight with Democrats on offshore drilling, the Libertarian Party says such a dramatic step wouldn’t be so bad.

“We don’t mind Congress shutting down,” says Andrew Davis, spokesperson for the Libertarian Party. “At least taxpayers will get a break from Congress’ spending spree. Anything that government does to decrease how active it is in passing new laws and spending taxpayer money is something the Libertarian Party fully supports.”

ayh, bayh, bayh how is this pronounced. blah, blah, blah.he takes a jab at the bush/chaney energy policy which obama voted for. in defense of this action obama said it was the best energy bill ever in the way it addressed alternative fuels such as solar and wind. that would mean better than anything offered by bill clinton or jimmy carter.mccain is for a diverse approach to future energy needs while realizing as does the rest of the world that petroleum will be needed in large amounts for the near future.this is why china tries to buy us oil companies and worldwide oil leases and is building refineries for venezuelan oil and wants to finance a canadian pipeline to the west coast. this is why russian oil giant has contracted for libyas entire oil output.our oil giants need to be bigger with even bigger profits to compete.i would much rather have an oil giant with big profit than 10 small oil companies with small profits each trying to compete on the world scene.oil companies need to be oil companies and not energy companies. let new energy companies develop independently so there wont be conflict of interest. as oil gets phased out oil companie will either convert or disappear.natural gas powered automobils are the way.low cost per mile better for environment,no mining for battery materials and no landfills full of lithium batteries.technology is here now.we just need stations.possibly good subsidy for govt over ethanol

There’s really no more polite way to put this. Anyone who votes for Barack Obama is simply too stupid and/or uninformed to be allowed the franchise. Period, no debate, no excuses to the contrary will suffice, just own it and deal with the fact that you’re just not that bright.

If the Founding Fathers could have foreseen this, they would have required some sort of intelligence testing before allowing the great unwashed to have equal say at the polling place.

Obama is an empty-suit socialist, and it’s not likely that America can survive the kind of change he has in mind for the country.

The very best we can hope for in the current climate is that the three branches of government will become hopelessly gridlocked and give us four years of nothing.

Unfortunately for the country and thinking people who value liberty, America has been largely changed into a “flash is more important than substance” nation with a very short attention span. We see in sound bytes, so we begin to think in them as well, and Obama plays very well to that sort of crowd.

They lack the time, intellect, or drive to inform themselves fully, so they take the latest blog, soundbyte, or photo-op and figure “he’s the guy for me”, without ever bothering to scratch the surface.

When you scratch Obama’s surface, you’ll find a socialist and little else.

“Inexperienced” is the least thing that one can say about him. He is poison for America. The ‘change’ we’ll be getting is ’spare change’ because that is all we will have left over after the tax increases and being held hostage to foreign oil.

If you’re still thinking “Obama”, you don’t deserve the right to cast a vote, not because of race, creed, color, religion, etc. You’re just not intellectually equipped to make the correct choice.

KC If you would change the channel and stop listening to Fox Noise, you would realize that Obama is not just proposing Windfall Taxes on Oil Companies. He has proposed to bring the tax rates of the wealthy back up to where they were under Clinton. He has only proposed to use the money that comes from taxing the Oil Companies for the $1000 tax rebate for us. And it is just assinine to give Tax Breaks to a company when it is experiencing its most profitable year to date. Basically the Republican thought point is that we will help you if you are rich, but you are on your own if you are poor. McCain is as guilty as the rest of them. Talk about Dr. No, No to Government regulated health care. No to holding people accountable for their actions. No to a Womans Right To Choose. No to lowering Middle Class Taxes. No to admitting I was one of the main proponents to the war in Iraq. No to admitting I was against Bush Tax Cuts in ‘01 and ‘03 but support them now that they are backing me. No to taking responsability for leaving my wife that waited for me while I was a POW, because she was hospitalized.

Give me a break.
