Obama Camp Chides New McCain Ad
In John McCain’s new TV ad, “Broken,” an announcer begins, “Washington’s broken. John McCain knows it. We’re worse off than we were four years ago.”
Team Obama couldn’t resist reminding reporters covering the campaign that during the brief Republican primary season, McCain was asked if Americans were better off than they were eight years ago. His response: “I think you could argue that Americans overall are better off, because we have had a pretty good prosperous time, with low unemployment and low inflation and a lot of good things have happened. A lot of jobs have been created.”
The Obama camp forwarded the youtube link of McCain’s answer and noted, “Senator McCain wants Americans to forget that during the Republican primary, he said that Americans were better off than we were eight years ago, and that he thinks we’ve made ‘great progress economically.’ He wants us to forget that he’s fully embraced the Bush policies he once opposed, and bragged about supporting those policies ‘more than 90 percent of time.’”
But even during the primary season, McCain recognized that the current economic situation is “tough right now.” After ticking off the economic concerns during the January debate, moderator Anderson Cooper interrupted, “It sounds like that we’re not better off is what you’re saying.”
McCain explained, “I think we are better off overall if you look at the entire eight-year period, when you look at the millions of jobs that have been created, the improvement in the economy, et cetera. What I’m trying to emphasize, Anderson, that we are in a very serious challenge right now, with a lot of Americans very uncertain about their future, and we’ve got to give them some comfort.”
For better or worse - depending on how you interpret McCain’s nuanced answer - the Obama camp argues that McCain would continue the same Bush/Cheney policies that have been implemented over the last eight years. Said Obama spokesman Bill Burton, “The truth is, being a maverick isn’t practicing the same kind of politics we have seen from Washington for decades, it isn’t having a campaign run by Washington lobbyists, and it’s certainly not promoting the same policies that have led America down the wrong path these past eight years.”

No words left out. Nothing out of context. These are the words of Senator McCain.
As Fox likes to put it - You Decide - Are you better off now than you were 8 years ago?
I am better off today than 8 years ago. We all are because we have the terrorists in hiding. Being safe and free is the most important thing to me.
Flip-Flop there goes McSame…….
Obama’08
I get it now…
McCain thinks we ARE better off than we were 8 years ago.
Therefore the more Bush years is exactly what this country needs.
Go, Obama! People do forget some times what has been said. If McCAin thinks we are better off, tell him to go to NBC web site and read “Doctors Within Borders”, this can refresh his 26 years as Senator. He is delusional! Republicans do not care about our poor. This happening in a Republican state it says a lot about them. They like to keep the poor like this to keep them in fear about change. They visit them and promise them a lot when they need their vote. We need to do something, that is vote for Obama and take the risk. Than vote for McCain who is the same old thing over and over.
Better off?
Eight years ago we had a surplus in the government. There was no 9/11. No war in Iraq. We had close ties and good relations with most countries. We had low heating oil, low gas for our vehicles, a strong economy . . . and much more.
What changed? George Bush!
We don’t need another George Bush “type” to make us “better off”!

I’d rather have McSame as you dems want to call him than another democrat who knows Nancy Polosi is stalling on voting for drilling for oil in hopes to gain more democrats in the congress after the elections so they can vote no even though we the people want it so Obama feels quite safe saying he will think about it. I call it crooked politics. Promise the moon knowing your not going to give anything but you plan on taking as much as you can. I personaly hope not another democrat makes it into congress, I hope the people of America wake up and see just how self orientated they are. They are not for the little guy they are for themselfs. They refused to allow culling of forrest to save the tress, look at California burn now. They claim global warming but forget to mention it has been going on from the ice age till now. They want to keep spending so they vote out the 5% cut in fed spending to balance the budget including Obama. They say they are concerned with health care but shelfed the bill to give individuals paying for private insurance a tax break, you think the democrats care a hoot about the little guy then go look at what they are really doing. Voting 11 bills threw with 17.5 billion in pork. More pork that the bills. Get past your democrats are for we the people, they are for the DNC and what they can do for themselfs. Yes they want to go green because they are invested in it. Look at Al Gore, he is making millions, look at T.Boone he is making millions. And who do you think is giving them all their money? Hello dems who vote in dems.
Tired of Obama, tired of Flip-flopping.
Tired of FISA and Obama’s empty promises.

Another really stupid ad by McCain and the stupid party. Washington is broken? DUH! Ya think? How long has McCain been camped out there in D.C.? 25 years and counting and he has an awakening that it’s now broke? LOL!
By the way go look at Obama and his real feelings for health plans, day care for single parents on low income, cutting the debt of our country, and most of the platform he has said he is for. He has alot of no votes. No on the Pell Grant going to $4,250 from $300, free college for the lower income, no on tax breaks for those of us paying for our insurance outside of our jobs, no on cutting government spending, no on providing insurance for some government jobs that pay minimum wages, the list goes on and on. I can see where people would want to vote him in. The democratic congress voted them all out with their no votes so they are really out for the little guy. But not to worry they did vote threw bills that allowed bigger roads past their family companies so they get more customers, more money to rename places for people who donated to their campaigns, and running commities so they get lower rates on their home loans, and let us not forget Obama and his aqurium in ILL which makes millions in profits but he felt they needed a million+ more and who paid for it? All of the people who did not get all their taxes back and the companies that the dems want to raise taxes on. Also the dems vote out setting a fund aside for social security and the ones of us who worked for it and wont get to see it. Then you have good old Nancy Polosi sitting back and telling the dems to act like they want to drill but she will stall the vote on it until they have enough dems in to make sure it wont go threw. They have super deligates to make sure they get the MAN they want elected even if it isn’t what the people want. Yeah I sure can see why any one would vote another one of them in.
McCain’s campaign is using the same tactics Bush used to scare us in to the war. He is trying to put fear in America with his negative ads about Obama. Why? My guess is because McCain can’t talk about the issues that concern working class Americans. Instead, McCain is in the pocket of big oil, big business via campaign funds and instead of taking about issues that matters to working class Americans, he tries to divert the issues that matter with ads about Paris Hilton, scare tactics and using half truths to make a point. Bottom line — same old Republican scare politics when what we need is hope and discussion about issues that matter to Americans.
Remember Half (or more) of the democrats - said B.O. is not qualified to be president!
pELOSI will take as much of the American Peoples freedom as you and I let her.
Maybe McCain should sell a bunch of his $500 pair of shoes to help jumpstart the economy
Terrorism has been such a big threat over the last 8 years. Just as McCarthy was right about the communism that plagued our nation before. Thanks fixed news for helping instill a fear in the American people to help out the Grand Ol’ Party destroy our wonderful nation.
The Ad that Washington is broken is correct. The only thing is that McCain has been around for at least 26 years and is part of the group that broke it! It will be nice to have some changes that Obama brings to the table. At least he listens and trys to reach out to all groups. That is more than McCain has shown this year.

Lew are you on drugs?!?! America was formed in 1776. Since the Declaration of Independence was signed we’ve been attacked (by foreigners) less times than i can count on one hand. so with that being said, you’re safe & free from whom?? i’m sure the word terrorist wasn’t even a part of your vocabulary before 2001. do you honestly want me to believe that you lived in fear of terrorists for the past 7 years?!? GTF outta here!! i’m calling BS!! if you’re that afraid of terrorists, get a dog!! are you afraid of the boogeyman too???
All you Obama kool-aid drinkers think Obama is going to help this country?? Think again. Even his health care plan favors illegal immigrants. He becomes president, and we’ll all be waiting in line for everything behind every immigrant you can imagine. Vote him in and you can all kiss your a$$ goodbye.
Good ole Barry wins another game of gotcha! When he contradicts himself we have misunderstood, when his opponent does it, he points it out and yells gotcha! But we can never forget, when he is slinging mud at his opponents, that he is representing a new kind of politics and his campaign is on the “high road.” Americans really are stupid to buy into this blatant double standard. I was better off before he started running for president.
It is nice to see an ad from McCain that does not pander to illegal immigrants. I did not know he had it in him. I do laugh how he says that the Washington he serves in is broken. I can’t believe you Republicans did not nominate Romney who is not even remotely close to the clowns in Washington including McCain. Oh yeah, by the way, that was Romney’s slogan. McCain is so orgininal that he has to steal a guys slogan who was not the nominee. I guess I don’t blame him.

WOW!!!! I would have expect better from a “WAR HERO”. It seems McCain has little regard for the sacrifice our troops are making as a result of his party’s blunder.
as long as mccain is able to define obama, then he should. fact is that after all this time, no one can say for sure who obama really is. he doesnt tell us what we really need to know about him , he is afraid to tell us what he really believes and so if he isnt going to tell us what hes all about then kudos to mccain for doing so.
Why are you Repugnant’s SOoooo Angry? “It’s like you take PRIDE in being Ignorant!
Please fool! You may be fine right now but a whole lot of the country is not.Don’t be mad…GO Obama!!! P.S.The last picture of Obama in the “paris” ad is soo cute!!!

Good for YOU!!!!
I wonder what the families, of the 4000+ US troops lost in Iraq, would have to say about this.
I wonder what the people who lost their job to outsourcing would have to say.
I wonder what the people whose homes are in foreclosure would have to say.
You may be indeed the only person that is “WAY” better off…
