McCain returns fire: Obama “confused” on energy

NEWPORT, MI — John McCain rebuked his Democratic rival for his opposition to the immediate construction of additional nuclear power plants during a visit to a Michigan plant Tuesday.

“Senator Obama has said that expanding our nuclear power plants quote ‘doesn’t make sense for America’…he also says no to nuclear storage and no to reprocessing. I couldn’t disagree more,” McCain said following a tour of the Enrico Fermi plant operated by Detroit Edison.

Responding to recent Obama attacks that he is too close to big oil because he has received more than $2.1 million in donations from the oil and gas industry during the campaign, McCain suggested that his opponent is actually the one who is in the pocket of those executives.

“I think he might be a little bit confused because when the energy bill came to the floor of the senate full of goodies and breaks for the oil companies I voted against it. Senator Obama voted for it. People care not only what you say but how you vote,” McCain added, referring to the 2005 White House energy bill that included tax breaks for the industry.

For his part, Obama responded ‘touchez’ to the McCain refrain that he is “Dr. No” when it comes to energy policy and defended his vote for the bill.

“He voted against fuel efficiency standards for cars, he opposed legislation to provide tax credits for more efficient cars, he voted against renewable sources of energy, against solar power, against wind power, against biofuels, against an energy bill that despite its flaws, represented the largest investment in renewable energy in the history of this country - he was Dr. No,” Obama told voters today in Ohio. He also defended his suggestion that Americans inflate their tires to the proper PSI to save on energy costs as accurate, saying of Republicans, “it’s like these guys take pride in being ignorant.”

The Obama campaign also responded to McCain’s consistent attack that Obama opposes nuclear power by noting that the Democrat supports additional nuclear plant construction, but only when decisions are made about a safer method of securing and disposing of nuclear waste.

“Barack Obama supports safe and secure nuclear energy…(and) it is unlikely that we can meet our aggressive climate goals if we eliminate nuclear power as an option. However, before an expansion of nuclear power is considered, Obama thinks key issues must be addressed including: security of nuclear fuel and waste, waste storage, and proliferation,” said Obama spokesman Bill Burton in a statement to reporters.

The drilling debate is retarded. And it is helped along by a media that is as complacent (complicit?) as they were in the build up to the Iraq War.

Again, the few people that have the time and dedication to pay attention, know that drilling will never reduce the cost of oil or lead to significant improvements in our energy independence. Yet, as per usual, and at no fault of the general public, those that follow the issue are in the vast minority. The media has a job to do here. Not play favorites, but simply to report the facts. Unless we are going to legitimize debates about the color of the sky, or the rotation of the earth around the sun, this argument needs to be appropriately refereed.

Comment by Larry Clifton

The US should have increased drilling years ago. Obama will say anything you want to hear. This is what I know:
Obama has no viable plan for American energy independence.
Obama’s multicultural minister: The Reverend Wright.
Obama’s favoite “singer.” Ludacris
Obama’s economic plan: Raise taxes 65 billion on oil companies and watch them get it back at the pump.
Obama’s economics: Raise taxes on your boss so you will be laid off.
Obama’s foreign policy: Surrender - now!

Obama and T. Boone Pickens seem to be right in line with one another on
the energy issus. I wonder of John McCain thinks T. Boone Pickens is
“confused”?

Man, McCain is tired. He should just withdraw from the race and let a more capable Republican run against Obama.

McCain really ought to re-read the bills he opposed before he slams Obama. Many of the provisions in it can be found in his own campaign plan. What a dumbass.

Enough of this condescension from this confused old man! Who does he think he is, Obama’s father? Or his owner?

McCain the “maverick” (a non-conformist rebel) whose only piece of legislation he is known for “McCain Finegold” was ruled Unconstitutional, not conforming to the Constitution. Now McCain the “Wandering Candidate” who has been opposed to all renewable energy policies is now all of a sudden getting amnesia (day jha vu) all over again. He should be trying to unite Bush, Chaney and Republican Senators to attend their convention. It is a disgrace and a shame that even the suggestion that Bush and Chaney wont attend because they would be an embarrassment. This is the President and Vice President of the United States and you don’t want to be associated with them because their “Ratings” are low. And McCain wants to be president, why did he not help Bush and Chaney to up their ratings? I don’t know if their is anymore room under the straight talk express? McCain is confused about being a Republican.

Just the recent threat of the US expanding domestic oil production has caused a pronounced drop in the price of oil. OPEC nations and the other major oil producers will react quickly by increasing production if the US expands domestic oil production. Also, stock market speculators will react by not buying oil stocks. The Democrats would love for the US to remain in the financial grip of our oil producing enemies, because self-reliance is contrary to the liberal/socialist philosophy. Why else would the Democrats so strongly oppose new drilling? What are they afraid of? Question for Democrats: What is the worst case scenario if we drill for new oil?

This is a very mild statement about Obama’s energy plan…..McCain could have easily said much worse and he would have been on the money….Obama’s energy plan…WHAT PLAN…hos plan is so far off the mark that it is an insult for each and every american. Does Obama really think we are that naive to not understand that his plan is no plan…absolutely NO SOLUTIONS….even if Obama wanted electric cars as he insists the electric grid need to be prepared for it and it is not…AND OBAMA IS NOT FOR NUKE POWER….so where is all the energy going to come from since no oil, no LP/natural gas/…no nuke….maybe he wants cars to have hampsters !!!!! The plan from Obama just continues the DEPENDENCY to oil and the middle east….for Obama’s idea to got cold turkey from their oil is far beyond anything reasonable and would set the stage when our infrastructure is not prepared to anger our friends in the middle east and they could cut production just to make a point….and the who is Obama going to blame….Bush? Remember Obama you and the dems can not go thru life blaming Bush for your mistakes…sooner or later you must stand up and take the heat without using the race card.

Comment by Rex.L

John, we can agree to disagree on this subject. There are more segments of the populace paying attention than you give credit to. As for “drilling will never reduce the cost of oil”, the school of economics I have been familiarized with begs to differ. The law of supply and demand has a great bearing on all costs of all products.

While this product costs are influenced by several factors, it’s a bit of a stretch to suggest that we should become more energy independent, but wait, let’s not increase the supply of the very commodity that we are trying to be more self sufficient with.

We keep hearing from the Democrats and many (not all) liberals that we can’t drill our way out of this problem..It will be ten years before we see any fruition (Not true), so let’s just sit on our hands and do nothing. They are against any plans for energy development. I don’t care which source you bring up, the Democrats and the Environmental extremists are against it.

So John, What is your idea, or plans for energy? Usually the people who take the “Not in my backyard” stand have no plans or ideas. The ones who oppose all approaches have no plans either. So the only thing I can take from this argument that we should not argue, is that those folks have no ideas. Please give me a sensible reason to not drill and/or some alternatives other than doing nothing.

As for the media, well they have been in the leftist, socialist camps for many years and I don’t expect any changes there any time soon. That’s why many news outlets are seeing readership and viewer numbers dropping. A great many of the vast majority really do get it.

Comment by Pester

John, I agree, few people really know the facts about drilling as you say, but this is a gift from the McCain camp to the Democrats because McCain finally said the word he wasn’t supposed to, “confused.” Several months ago Obama said that McCain “lost his bearings” and the backlash was severe. Even though Obama used it in the sense of a moral compass, it was widely reported as an age attack. Now, the gate just opened a little to go after him on being “confused”/”overwhelmed”/ “out of touch”

Worth keeping an eye on.

“Barack Obama supports safe and secure nuclear energy … However, before an expansion of nuclear power is considered, Obama thinks key issues must be addressed including: security of nuclear fuel and waste, waste storage, and proliferation,”

But it is the Democrats who are blocking the construction fo a nuclear waste storage facility in Yucca Mountain.

That’s kind of dishonest- say you’ll support nuclear energy when the waste problem is solved, then block all efforts to solve the waste problem.

Comment by Blair B. Emory

John you are full of it. Some of us lived through the Jimmy Carter double digit inflation and do not want to do it again under Lord Obama. Drilling did do it in the 70’s. Both in ANWAR and the north sea. Brought the inflation adjusted price down from about $4.00 a gallon to $1.00. After all the price of oil is determined by the commodities market in a free, capitalism country and is 95% perception. If you think there is going to be a glut of it, you would be a fool to buy it.

Comment by Pester

Blair, the problem is that while their may be some modest reduction in oil futures, and in turn, reduction in current gasoline prices through a bi-partisan agreement to rescind the off-shore oil drilling ban (ANWR is off the table b/c both McCain and Obama oppose it), that will not save the day because we simply do not have enough to “glut” the enormous world oil market with it. And that is what it would take, you would have to be able to swamp the market with so much oil for the world that the other oil producing countries simply could not withhold the minimal amounts of oil it would take to keep the current market prices going. It’s a bad bet. In fact, it’s better to view what oil deposits we do have as a safety net for our future generations. We have already saddled them with so much debt that they won’t have enough tax revenue for anything but medicare and social security in 30 years anyhow.

How long is the media going to play along? McCain is sunk. The only question is if the Bush-Chaney-Rove faction can keep McCain digging a deep enough hole so that they don’t look so bad to the Republican majority. Polls you say? Study statistics and a lick of scientific method (and ask John Kerry about the validity of polls) and the facts are not facts. Just fun for newsies. Gas by the end of the Bush Admin will regress to below 3$ and no one will put 1+1 together. Fox is even reporting this. Just not connecting the dots very well. The media loves a story. And McCain has been all to happy to oblige. I thought Bush was heavy handed when he tore up McCain in the primaries, he may have been saving us from the American equivalent of Nikita Khrushchev. Only less successful. Khrushchev didn’t need a sugar mama. See humor, it really doesn’t belong in the presidential race. It lowers an already floor level bar for the US.

Blair you’re reading from a script. Carter inherited a sinking ship. He made adjustments that took time to work. Talk to Reagan’s economists. They’ll tell you that Carter made sound long term sacrifices. A word Babyboomers detest. Bush 1 made similar sacrifices to repair the S & L debacle. They both paid for it. Good leaders don’t survive more than 1 term in modern American politics. Only snake oil salesmen. So Obama’s confused about energy and McCain’s just confused. So whats new. Its very hard to buy anything from another self made Millionaire(by marriage that is). There is no way he could even understand what its like to be the average worker or American. For the most part I don’t think any politician can. Right now I know Obama is to green to have done anything in office. But I would like to here what McCain has done for the average American tax payer. Our Politicians have the best free health care in the world while we the taxpayers are sol if we can’t afford it. We the tax payers have set up the politicians to be elitist awholes who don’t have clue about anything. The Hilton ad by McCain is true about all of the politicians not just Obama. When is the last time you think any of them checked into a Motel 6 while they were campaigning. I am sick of Politic’s.

Comment by C. Nelson

Obama complains it will take 10 years before offshore drilling can result in an increase in domestic oil supplies. Well, the anti-drilling obstructionists made that same argument 10 years ago. And, like it or not, no matter which alternative energy sources are developed, we’ll still be burning oil 10 years from now. Obama seems to look at our energy problems in the same time frame as the current presidential campaign. In fact, he seems to regard many major issues in that context.

Comment by dharris

Just the mention of opening an oil rig made the price of oil drop. Of course it did.

A) The oil companies are in charge of the price of gas
B) Bush is told to anounce that the Oil Rig is opening
C) Oil companies drop the price of oil.
D) Republicans use that as defenative proof (for whatever)
E) Oil companies are allowed to drill more off shore
F) Oil companies are allowed to produce more of their own oil instead of buying forign
G) Oil companies claim the price of the new oil as being the same as the forign oil
H) More profits are made by oil companies

Proof of this has been seen with the oil the companies by from Canada. Cost less but the gas prices stay the same as from forign oil. So obviously no matter how much oil we get domesticaly the price is not dependent on the amount of oil that is being brought in or being produced domesticaly. They will always charge what they can get away with, and by not acknowledging this fact and not taxing them justly the Republicans are just as guilty as the companies themselves.

The issues that the Dali Bama mentions - security of nuclear fuel and waste, waste storage, proliferation - these are elementary issues to the whole notion of nuclear power. The Dali Bama words his message as if he is the first to think of these things. 73% of electricity in France is derived from nuclear. This isn’t rocket science anymore; nuclear is already safe and stable and Barack-me-Amadeaus treats it as if its a proposal to send men to Mars.

The Democrat ideology - punishment based motivation - has been proven over and over in a variety of contexts, not just political, as unsuccessful in shifting societal behavior. Tax, regulate, and litigate - those are the only knobs Democrats know how to adjust to drive government.

This punishment based energy strategy of the Democrats will hurt the United States more because neither India or China will prioritize environment over economic development. Any government that deliberately slows its rate of development for environmental reasons will risk serious unrest at home.

Yes, Dali Bama, punish the auto manufacturers into making more fuel efficient cars. Thats a winning strategy for sure. Pah-lease!

The guys who say that extra drilling doesn’t impact costs - don’t understand supply and demand…if we increase the supply, we can better control the price…

Nevertheless, the offshore drilling is the obvious short term strategy along with Nuclear and other alternatives…we need to look at every means to harness energy…

McCain is for it, Obama is not!!! Obama is just a little baby, who has always been given so much in his life…he never had to work or face adversity…this guy is scary and will destroy our country as we know it…

Obama has no answer, but, wait until tomorrow, he’ll say anything to get a political advantage…

Obama - words do matter…but, deeds matter more!!!

By the way, most of the words in your speeches aren’t yours anyways…

McCain is only one of 29 Senators who voted for and helped draft legislation to remove ear marks ( you know those nasty huge pork barrel amounts that are tacked on to bills without debate, the bridge to no where) Obama gave his Church $200,000 via an Ear Mark and others.
Drilling will decrease oil prices. I believe we should do all of the above.

For me it isn’t about Republican v Democrat and the terms liberal and conservative really seem just to be labels used to rationalize what they want to do. I believe Scott McClellan had it pegged when he said, in his book WHAT HAPPENED, that over the last 30 years politics in Washington has been on a steady downward spiral and has reached the pits with the Bush Administration. Scott described the problems with the ‘perpetual campaign’ and ‘politics as war’ mentality that now dominates all of Washington. The goal is simply to win and everyone that isn’t with you is the enemy. Money gives the ability to play the game and the best source of money is from Special Interests who then have to be placated and patronized. And then there is the politicians’ self-interest with their egos, greed and their positioning for collecting after they leave office. All of it doesn’t leave much room for what it is suppose to be about – honesty, integrity, altruistically responsible and conscience driven conduct for the benefit of the people. No, more Washington as usual just isn’t going to cut it. McCain’s history, words and actions simply promise more of the same while Obama identifies the problems and stipulates that he is committed to the changes needed. Can you trust Obama to do what is necessary to turn things around? Can he accomplish it in the Washington environment and can he get the help required? There are no guarantees other than that McCain will definitely be more of the same and Obama is simply a chance for the needed change. To me that really is a no-brainier; I have to choose to take the chance.

I wonder if Obama asked the French how they are dealing with their energy needs?

oh wait, he wouldn’t since it’s already known that the French are getting most of their electricity from NUCLEAR POWER! the French have so much electricity that they are exporting power.

to those who are saying that alternative energy alone will solve the enrgy crisis, you have no idea how the nation’s power grid works. electricity that can be generated by windmills and solar farms can’t be stored effectively yet.

to those who are saying that drilling for more domestic oil is not the answer are willing to keep sending hundreds of billions of dollars overseas, and are willing to keep borrowing money from china to pay for the oil that the federal government needs.

more domestic oil means more tax revenues for the government as well as more supply that will lower the price. the US sucks up over 20% of the world’s oil production, replace that 20% with domestic oil and watch the price drop back to $25 per barrel.

price of oil started increasing as China and India started industrial boom. that’s an increase in global demand without the increase in global supply. that is the law of supply and demand.

Obama and his supporters need to get some more education about economic laws I guess. it figures that they’ll take anything that comes out of Obama’s mouth. Vote him in and let’s see what happens once all of his planned tax increases take effect. you don’t have to look far to see an example, Cook County Illinois is a good example of government induced slowdown via a tax addiction. Go and vote Obama into the white house and let him sign all of the bills Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid would send to him to sign and see what happens to the economy afterwards, see what happens to all of your 401Ks once he increase corporate taxes, see what happens to your paychecks when he increases payroll taxes. Obama has been saying he’s plan will reduce taxes for the middles class, vote him in and we will see…in the meantime, let me take my already reduced 401 K out so that it doesn’t go down any further….God knows that I will need my 401K since Social Security wouldn’t survive once the democrats starts increasing their entitlement programs again.

Obama’s bad for the country, if no one starts to realize that then we will be worse off four years from now than we already are.

Comment by Michael from Atlanta

What will more gasoline from drilling get us? If you the the Oil compamies will lower their price, think again. Currently we have plenty gas, THERE IS NO SHORTAGE, only speculation about the price of oil. Given that, the supply of oil is fine. More gasoline only means more profits to them.

“it’s like these guys (Republicans) take pride in being ignorant.”

Without a safe method of securing and disposing of nuclear materials, adding 45 new nuclear plants within our borders is like inviting Mr. Li to sit beside us in the bus. Come to think of it, an apt description for McCain’s proposal may very well be the “Chernobyl Express.”

Reg, I agree with you that politics has become way too partisan but in Obama’s limited time in government he has shown himself to be extremely partisan. He is just the type of politician McClellan is complaining about. There have been numerous times when McCain has crossed party lines on issues and has been instrumental in bi-partisan legislation. Obama has shown zero interest in working with Republicans. I don’t think there is one instance where he voted outside the party line. Obama is of the mindset that Republicans are good people who need to be shown their ignorance. He would never consider the possibly that conservatives could be right on any issue.

You fools just go back and listen to what Obamasame said, It’s the same thing the Democrats always say but never follow up on, they wont even vote on a tax break for solar, and you think that junior senator from Ill is going to change that? Wake up and smell the coffee! The only thing Obama knows is what he is told to say~! No brain! Where is all the money going to come from, Overseas? because by the time He squeezes the manufactures there won’t be any left where will YOU work? Just take out an adding machine and add it up. So far in his quest he has promised over 2,000,000,000,000.00 in new spending for government programs, Every time he speeks he promises more as if WE have no limit. McCain has a record a plan and the HEART to do what has to get done! He is a true American Hero not only for his war record but on the Floor of Congress, If you are really into who is the best PERSON to run the free world give yourself a break and look over the bills that McCain did not vote for, Pork in every one and not good bills. Just because they are bills that does not mean that He was not for the title, but not for the content. He is the person to bring us back to the real moral fiber of AMERICA not Junior! You know why Obama will not do town halls with McCain becaues it is unscriped and we all know what happens when he doesn’t have a prepaired speech he just screws it up. McCain has to think about what to say so it is real not a speech. Obama just stammers. McCain does need to get off the nice guy thing because we all know he is an A”" and that is just what we want someone with the passion to fight not someone who is afraid like Obama, he must have been picked on a lot in school. And for the record I would not trade McCain’s Experience for anything that Junior (Obama) has to offer what ever that is.

The individual elected president will have the responsibility of trying to corral a bunch of other elected congressional “misfits” to lead this great nation on energy independence. Good Luck. Ever since the 70’s when the first lines formed at gas stations, our elected officials promised us an effective energy policy. Lots of proposals were developed, most with no action.

During this same time, other countries, like France and Japan, have figured it out and now China is going to surpass us all. China is even at our south doorsteps drilling for oil. Examine all of the things they are doing about energy and you’ll see they figured it out.

When a congressman from Massachusetts says no wind power in my back yard; when we have the technology for storing nuke waste already, but still don’t build new nuke plants; when we won’t drill for oil everywhere in the US, but gladly pay a foreign country for their oil; etc, etc, etc We keep wasting our money and also send our money outside the US and the world is laughing at us….

I can tell you most Americans are not going to trade in their hydrocarbon-based car for a “barely can fit into hybrid car” which also costs $$$s more than a regular car. Also how do use a hybrid on the great American farm or that big construction project? We use “real” vehicles to do our work and transport our families. The hybrid is great for special niches in our land and we need them, but they don’t satisfy all.

The windfall profit tax doesn’t work either. Why does it make sense that for each dollar at the pump, the dollar goes to the oil company, then the tax goes to the government, then a small portion comes back to me. Figure ways to reduce the gas cost in the first place. Get rid of the subsidy and drill and build refineries here. Stop sending our money to terrorist countries…

For those who mention the drop in oil prices after Bush said…sure let’s do it…drilling…can you imagine what a drop would be if there was a cooperative approach on ALL SOURCES…to include nuke, drilling and all other forms of energy…jus imagine the signal it would give to the rest of the world that the USA is SERIOUS about becoming independent….only to be dashed/defeated by Pelosi,Reid, Obama…and other dem operatives. Just consider the potential drop in oil if we have seen this drop with a statement from Bush ….but the dems will not go against their green lobby….and Obama says he is not beholden to any lobby….right!!! This is a prime example where common sense is being manupilated by a lobby…the enviromental lobby…and Pelosi is a perfect example of it…We…the USA…is going to “save the planet” ??????? what about the other energy users…India, China, the EU, japan…..so “we” are going to “cold turkey from our addiction” and all other nations are no interested in similar action????? The dems…Team Obama…and the far left and the green enviromental lobbyhas LOST TOUCH WITH THE AMERICAN CITIZENS….the dems claim the repubs have but this attitude for “saving the planet” with american sacrifices without any focus from other nations as a combined process…..is TOTALLY MISGUIDED…and yet the dems expect these same voters to put them into a position to make it so…..wake up america for where the dems/team Obama/pelosi are leading you….and it is not pretty.

For me, it is about Republican Vs Democrat, liberal Vs conservative. These labels are the means by which we define different factions and values. Without the labels, we loose the ability to express our selves in thought and speech. They have meanings.

Scott McClellan may have written some truthful passages in his book. I can’t say because I haven’t read it myself. But, if I am to believe what I have heard from the news media, I would suggest it has a mixed collection of facts and fiction. Some of his claims can’t be substantiated due to the fact that he was not privy to those meetings. Meetings he infers that he was a party to… simply not true.

You’re right in the fact that politics is a dirty game. Most always has been and I suspect it always will be. This is an art practiced by politicians of all affiliations and it is valued and cultivated because of the lust for power. I suspect a few politicians have held the country’s best interests at heart, but they are in the minority. It’s just the nature of things as we know them.

You are correct again, that there are no guarantees. But I feel there is a greater risk to be taken in the election of someone who has offered hints of more socialism. He has suggested that he will be a security and financial disaster for our country. You can argue that for others as well, but I wish to take my poison in smaller doses. Doing so holds out, though meager, a hope for an antidote. I have to vote McCain. Obama is not an option.

OK, people. A little lesson on economics…More Supply with less demand = lower price. More demand with less supply = higher price. If we drill more, we will have access to a larger supply. Just the announcement of lifting the ban, ALONE, will send the price of oil down. It’s not rocket science. I am showing my support of this on my gas guzzler…you should too! Check out

Why on earth would you not show your support loud and clear… the Democrats need to get the message!!!!!!!

Drilling for oil on American soil, and in our soveirgn areas is exactly what we need! Supply and demand is what keeps economics in line for those of you that DO NOT KNOW THIS!!!

Opening up the drilling would create THOUSANDS of jobs for AMERICANS, and help keep the AMERICAN DOLLARS being sent to foreign nations and enemy nations for their oil would help drive us to a surplus. Why would we continue to do what OBAMA ORIGINALLY WANTED TO DO before his FLIP FLOP and keep buying oil FROM OUR ENEMIES and middle eastern counterparts?????

In my opinion American jobs, American securities, and less money to our enemies is a PLUS!!!!!

Sure there is negatives to drilling, BUT there is negatives to eating a hamburger! So get over it you OBAMAmites…

Do whats right for your country and not your party, thats been the problem with democrats for years and years!

DRILL FOR OIL, and DRILL NOW!!!

NObama is a lost cause, and has not a single clue that his electric cars could not be supplied by OUR POWER GRID, calculate that NoBAMA! BESIDES YOURE WIFE IS RACIST!!!

Which brings up another topic…….. How can Obama say Mccain and the repubs are playing the race card when its only 2% of black voters supporting John Mccain??? THAT is a racist issue if you ask me!!!

The ongoing discussion about energy sources and needed expansion of all activities should not be a discussion…it should be an action plan….started at the time Bush said …let’s do it….for the security and independence of america. It is simply disgusting to see just how political this common sense approach has become to Obama…to Pelosi…and dems. It is as if an independent…a dem…and a repub has a total different view on national security….and how to make america independent as much as possible from foreign influences by oil supply and demand and other world influences. You would think this is a “no brainer”…have our own supply…convert over to it…decrease the influence of third world upon our nation…keep the money here not going to people who hate us or use our wealth to subvert our way of life. Seems simple to me…do everything..but why ..why does some groups suggest that we as a nation CAN NOT GO NUKE…NO DRILLING…WHY ARE WE ALLOWING ANY GROUP (GREEN TYPES) TO INFLUENCE OUR OWN SECURITY????…Lobbying at its absolute WORST!!! ….and Obama and the dems say there are no influences from lobbyists…total falsehood. These are really simple issues to me but the convoluted pathways used by the Obama..Pelosi..dems to stop this enhansed domestic/economic security process is not just far fetched…..off the wall…but just plain stupid……”save the world”????? Unbelieveable!!! And this represents to party in control of congress??…seems like a “change” needs to occur ASAP.

Only one foreseeable problem to the McCain plan:

How does he propose to get the nuclear plants, new drilling, and any expansion of existing refineries past the environmentalist wackos that will block them at every turn with lawsuits so that it will be too expensive for anyone to even attempt to build them?

Does he think the Democrats are going to just lay down and agree with him?
That only happens during an election year when they find themselves on the wrong side of the issue

I have witnessed the expressions of at least one person that thinks Jimmy Carter was an effectual President. Effectual in the respect that he was a positive force for our country. Mr. Carter was, as judged by history and quite a few of the intellect, a miserable failure as a President.

In many cases it does take time for policy to make it’s intended effect. It has been proven a few times that great leaders can endure when they are successful in crafting policy and surrounding themselves with sound minded advisers. The American people can see the fruits of sound leadership when they are given the information they need.

It was Carter’s policy that gave us the leadership that exists in Iran today. He sacked the Shaw and left the barn door open for the pigs. He was a dismal failure when it came to the Iranian hostage situation. In fact, he made so many poor decisions, any good ones were sunk by the bad. I remember his administration.

Jimmy Carter has gone down as the worst American President, and that’s saying something when you look back to Kennedy and Johnson. Kennedy gave Cuba to Castro by breaking his promise in the “Bay of Pigs” fiasco. I think a lot of people believe we should not have been in Viet Nam. I fall in that category. But the fact remains that we lost over 58,000 American lives and gave in to Pol Pot when he admits they were defeated. That’s all a credit to Kennedy and Johnson.

But about saving the oil for our grandchildren. It makes no sense to base our immediate future on that way of thinking. The grandchildren are affected right now by our decisions made right now. It behooves us to take care of them presently in all means available. That means developing our other resources. One problem that faces RD&D though, is having the resources at hand to further that development. Red China is partnering with Cuba to drill for the oil that we are saving. The oil lies between Florida and Cuba and is within our territory. They will angle drill it… but we will save it.

Everyone (mostly) has a position on energy development and we should not be too extreme in our judgment, because their’s is different than ours. We should, however, strive to communicate our views in such a manner that it can be received and digested by others. I know that I fail in that category much too often.
