No Arrogance Here, Says Obama

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla - Barack Obama told reporters that John McCain waged a cynical campaign of distraction over the last week — which many political observers say McCain won by rattling Obama with negative ads that took him out of the race’s driver’s seat.

Taking questions from reporters for the first time since returning from his trip overseas, Obama continued to defend himself against his rival’s charge that he played the race card by telling Missouri crowds that McCain would use his different appearance to try to scare them into thinking he’s a risk. Racism, he said, wasn’t the “ism” he was alleging.

“In no way do I think that John McCain’s campaign was being racist,” he said. “I think they are cynical. I think they want to distract people from talking about the real issues.”

“The one thing we know about the team that John McCain’s assembled, because it’s a carryover from some of the folks that worked on Bush campaigns and some of the Republican campaigns in the past, is that they’re very good at negative campaigns. They’re not so good at governing,” said Obama. “We don’t take the skill of the Republicans in engaging in negative attacks lightly. We think it’s something that we’ve got to be mindful of. But what we also have confidence in is that the American people feel that we’re offering real solutions.”

McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds responded by turning the charge around on the Illinois Senator. “The only ‘cynical’ candidate in this election is Barack Obama, who has opposed every element of John McCain’s comprehensive energy plan that includes additional oil drilling, affordable nuclear energy and gas tax relief for hardworking families,” he said in a statement

Obama also claimed recent accusations of arrogance in his campaign are just an invention of those McCain hatchet men. “I don’t know that there’s that perception. That’s something that’s being fed to the media by them. I get no sense that it’s taken,” he said. “I think what would be useful is to ask the question, what’s this based on. It’s not really clear exactly what it’s based on.”

“If I was presumptuous or taking this for granted, I wouldn’t be working this hard this week. I’m beat,” said Obama, laughing

Won? McCain won? Whoopti-do. McCain wins the week in “gotcha”?
I am so distressed about what Senator McCain has become. I thought he was different. Now I can’t believe I ever considered voting for him. The use of Spears and Hilton in an ad was just horrible. Leave those young girls alone. Poor Britney is in a mental hospital already.
All McCain really has to do is be the last white man standing to win. Well- don’t we all know this is true?

The phrase “fox news” is an oxymoron. Foxy news is closer but still not rabid enough. I stopped watching it long ago so excuse me if you have approached any semblance of fairness, truthfulness and balance.

I believe that Obama and wife are the ones that are cynical. John McCain has spoken of the greatness of this country and its opportunities. Obama has only spoken of her failures, percieved or real. I do not believe Obama is the change we need BECAUSE of hope not cynicism.

Why is it “cynical” for Senator Obama to point out that drilling and gas tax relief are just temporary gimmicks?

CBS recently reported that , “According to the federal government’s own Department of Energy, drilling off America’s coasts would not have a significant impact on domestic oil production or prices before 2030. And off-shore leasing wouldn’t even begin before 2012.

Also, most of the U.S.’s offshore oil, almost 10 billion barrels, lies off the coast of California. But at the current rate of U.S. consumption - about 20.7 million barrels a day - that would be burned up in 16 months.

‘It would have a pretty modest effect even when it did start flowing,’ said U.C. Berkeley energy researcher Severin Borenstein…it might drop pump prices as much as 25 cents a gallon in 10 years or more.”

I would honestly like someone to explain why we should encourage additional drilling which is, at best, a temporary fix of limited value. Why would we not want to put all of our resources into finding PERMANENT solutions to our looming energy crisis and our dependence on oil?

Obama is the more arrogant then McCain. They both could use some deflating. Obama is the one who is constantly pointing out that he is a different race then McCain. Who cares? Its what he stands for that voters don’t like. Is he an American? I don’t think so with the way he behaves. He thinks he is a Prophet. McCain has pointed that out in one of his ads, which is good, but not enough. McCain goes after the republicans as well. He should be standing up for all republicans and taking some kind of control of congress. Congress is a mess and its their own fault. They want to spend more money on another stimulus package but not do anything about finding more oil in our own country. Why do we have to get oil from other countries when we have plenty in our own country? The democrats want to sell those drilling rights to other countries like the chinese. Obama will only make our country more dependent on other countries. McCain has a chance to stand up and be a leader, but he better do it quick. Congress has had thirty years to fix the energy problems but they don’t want to do it because they are all arrogant.

Twice in a row we elected a president who waged a successful negative campaign, with disastrous results.
Do we really want to do it again?

Obamarrogance. I predict the Super Delegates will realize they made a mistake in backing Obama, and will nominate Hillary to have any chance in winning the White House Election in November 2008.

Funny how just talking about drill brought about a $0.50 to $0.60 or better in some drop in gas prices and if we actually do start drilling how much more? Now even Obama is backing off. He is “thinking” about voting for it if it is enviormentaly safe. Well hello idiot we had how many huricans that tore up how many cities and the offshore rigs are still there? Levies burst and cities flooded, building blew over but the rigs are still in one peace. What do they need to show they are a heck of alot safer than shipping from over seas and ships leaking huge oil spills. The closer to home the less likely we will have so many.

Wake Up America!!! we have a opportunity to pick the right person this time for president. You mess up when you pick Goerge Bush for president when we all know that Al Gore was the Ideal person for President. Barack Obama has good judgement and remember Obama is a “Harvard Graduate” and was at the top of his class. We are going to need some one very smart to face the problems we have in America.

Comment by Jenny J

Look at the polls. Obama and McCain are suddenly even in the polls even though Obama expected a big bounce from his middle east and european photo op. Too bad the ad hit so close to home. You’re a loser, Barry.

Comment by Mat Wilson

to gmarie.

No I think we should let China, Russia, and the rest of the world rob our off shore recourses while you play patty cake. Is that clear enough for you. Are you going to print up some more funny money to pay for your PERMANENT energy solutions or just steal it from the middle class like democrats usually do.

McCain will use the tools that he has…old style politics and it will sink his boat in the end. He doesn’t realize how deeply people really want something new. Although he is comforting to many as he is more of the same of what we have had ruling this country for so long now, deep down most people can sense that America needs to take a new direction for its own prosperity and for the good of the rest of the world. however well minded his generation may be, their values are out of date with what is needed both in America and abroad. America needs a leader that is charismatic and intelligent to guide it and to lift us out of being the laughing stock of the world as we have rightfully become under Bush.

Comment by ray reyns

McCain is so lost folks. Can you actually imagine that we will suffer under another old school conservative like him? He is running scared and it will prove his downfall as his judgment in his ads has no integrity…time for a rest home john.

Obama is an arrogant idiot. Anyone who can’t see that is blind. He’s not President material. Just a lot of hot air.

Senator Obama is running a postive campaign - it seem like McBush is running the negative campaign and try to flip the script on Senator Obama. The Republicans do not have any thing to run on but attacks. It will not work this time - America’s are much smarter this time around.

Comment by Thomas LaBre

Obama is a very eloquent speaker who flip flops on any issue if it gives him a better chance to win, problem is he never really says anything

Check out the U-Tube of Benjamin Franklin’s face being morphed into Obama’s on the 100 dallar bill.It has been up since June30th .At the end it says paid for by the McCain campaign.I guess Obama was right about that racial thing.

Comment by Fred

How can McCain have the nerve to call a presidential candidate arrogant when McCain is running for president? McCain is being very hypocritical. Both McCain and Obama think they should run the free world, they are both arrogant. The only thing is is that McCain is the one who claims that he is the only one who is capable of leading, McCain is the one who lies and says Obama isn’t able to lead. That makes McCain arrogant not Obama.
It is funny every attacking point McCain uses is really just McCain projecting his feelings and qualities onto Obama. I hope the public can see through it.
More proof that McCain is projecting, a hypocrite and the arrogant one is the fact that McCain is the candidate who talked about his re-election campaign in 2012, and how America would be after his first term. Also Obama campaings on weekends while McCain takes almost all Saturdays and Sundays off.
There is nothing wrong with Obama opposing McCain’s oil interest policy that does nothing to help America. Has everyone forgot what happen with Enron? Why is McCain trying to repeat bad history?
McCain himself said that his energy policies provided no substance or relieve. Every expert knows that his offshore idea will not do anything for several reasons 1) the oil companies don’t have the equipment to drill on more land and 2) the oil companies aren’t have millions of acres of land that they can drill on.
McCains gas tax holiday is just more pander. Destroying Americas road isn’t how you solve a problem, that is called making more problems.
Obama offers real energy solutions.
1) Fight speculation which causes oil prices to be artificially inflated some estimates claim that speculation causes oil prices to artificially increased by at least 30%. Obama supports fighting speculation which would lower oil prices and increase oil production. Oil production would be increased because now oil companies and investors would be using their money to increased enery production instead of speculation.

Obama doesn’t recognize his own arrogance since it is second nature to him. Pampered by his mother and grandparents, sent to prep school, Columbia and Harvard Law, finally getting some “street creds” on the backs of the poor of Chicago. Then selling them out to his friend Rezko for financial gain, using his minister to ingratiate himself with Blacks and getting the backing of the corrupt Democratic political machine to advance his political career. Never having to really work for anything. Writing a biography when he had no accomplishments. Getting plucked from obscurity by an ambitious bunch of political hacks. Arrogance? Are you kidding me? He reeks of it!

Obama may have said McCain wasn’t being racist, however his chief strategist, David Axelrod, admitted that Obama’s ‘Dollar Bill’ Remark Referred to His Race.

Imagine, a multi-race person like Barack is the one doing the race baiting.

Webster Dictionary defined ARROGANCE as overbearing pride or self-importance

Obama 1. has his own pesidential seal 2. has stated how he would redecorate Lincoln Bedroom 3. His staff has already starting planning Obamas’ move into White House “because a matter like that takes time” 4. Obama refurbished his compaign airplane and deleted American flag instead put his logo on it 5. Obama said of his foreign trip that he needed to meeting with these leaders of Iraq, etc. “because I will be dealing with them for the next 8 to ten years”. (He does not know there’s an election is Nov.??) 6. He acted as though he was the leader of the World on his foreign trip. 7. He needs a football stadium for his nomination speech; a convention center is not good enough for him. 8. He does interviews with his children to get the publicity then said he will not do that again, etc. etc. etc.

Obama, arrogant? Where did anyone get that from?

McCain seems to be a puppet of his Karl Rove-era handlers much of the time–and when he does speak for himself, he gives the impression of being erratic and (dare I say it?) past his prime. It will be interesting to see if he implodes–or explodes–during the presidential debates this fall.

What I hate… is that people assume that the media makes up my mind for me. I see the actions of a candidate on the news, and I make up my mind …. no commentators needed.

Perhaps what we the people, is also viewed the same way by the commentators who happens to have their own opinion too:

“Obama also claimed recent accusations of arrogance in his campaign are just an invention of those McCain hatchet men. “I don’t know that there’s that perception. That’s something that’s being fed to the media by them. I get no sense that it’s taken,” he said. “I think what would be useful is to ask the question, what’s this based on. It’s not really clear exactly what it’s based on.””

You exude arrogance and that you are above all… no need for “McCain’s hatchet men”. Just b/c we don’t agree with you, does not mean we’ve been swayed that way… WE the people who don’t agree with you do have our own minds.

Mc Cain Leads…. Obama follows (but has the art to make it appear as it’s HIS “novel” idea).

Funny, I see Obama as the puppet… Pelosi and his handler. And when he acts for himself he tries to fit in w/his pretentious personality and saying whatever he needs to “for THAT particular moment”. Why not? It’s worked for him running against Hillary.

Sorry to say I cannot trust Obama,
He does not stand behind his words and proposed policies i.e. offshore drilling,

Would you buy a car from Obama ?

Sorry he’s a great salesman, but I would leave the sale feeling I has been taken. I would worry about the promises Car Salesman Obama had made in order to make the sale.

Here comes the paid Obama blogger “Joseph Marcucilli”. If your not getting paid, here’s my two cents…Before you try to pass off farce as fact, go to the Obama Campaign and their Press Corp Elite (MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, PBS, C-SPAN, TIME, NEWSWEEK, NYT, READER’S DIGEST, just to name a few) to get the best tips on misinformation. We need a LIBERAL TRASH compactor so we can sort out all the garbage shills like this use to continually try to prop up the EMPTY SUIT with. Former Democrat who got shafted by the DNC and O’s Media Machine.

There are more positive remarks about Obama in this particular FOX News blog than any other, this year. This is a sign. The world is turning…You folks are all young, but getting old before your time. Just take a shot of prune juice and vote for Obama. McCain is a joke. He could be my grandfather’s grandfather.

I just read that McCain said that they were enjoying and having fun with the attack ad with Paris Hilton and Brittany Spears. I think he sounds like a very strange man. I don’t think he has any scruples. This whole thing is tasteless and so are his remarks.

Comment by ejo

Fair and balananced;think not. Why is it that you don’t disclost the fact that John McCain actually beganplaying the rece card back on June 27th with his ad that had Senator Obama’s face on the 100 dollar bill, Mount Rushmore and other venues. Additionally, why are you not playing his recent ad that makes a mockery of religion and more specifically moses.. I guess that nots part of your fairness slogan.

The guy sounds very confident when he speaks. Until you start hearing the studdering, the duh, duh, duh, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh. That is pretty confident. Does he have a speech impediment?
