John Rich debuts “Raisin’ McCain”

PANAMA CITY, FL — Country music star John Rich premiered a new song Friday dedicated to Sen. John McCain at a rally for the GOP presumptive nominee on the Florida Panhandle.

At a “Country First” (get it?) concert, one of the two stars of Big and Rich performed “Raisin’ McCain” as McCain was arriving for a brief rally in Panama City. The song focuses on the Vietnam veteran’s time as a POW and refers to him as a “a real man with an American plan.” (Full lyrics after jump)

“Well we’re all just raisin’ McCain. Everywhere across the USA. You can get on the train or get out of the way. We’re all just raisin’ McCain,” the chorus goes. While it is not likely to takeover the charts like Big and Rich’s recent hit, “Save a horse, ride a cowboy,” the nearly 500 person crowd danced along to the hit. Rich performed the song solo though as his musical partner, Big Kenny, is an Obama supporter.

McCain briefly addressed the crowd, some of whom wore NOBAMA bumper stickers and waved “McCain” signs in the air, telling them he will “never surrender” in Iraq and calling on them to help put him over the top in the key swing state.

Lyrics after the jump…

RAISIN’ MCCAIN
Music and lyrics by John Rich

Well we’re all just raisin’ McCain
Everywhere across the USA
You can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain

And we’re all just raisin’ McCain
Everywhere across the USA
You can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain

Well he got shot down in a Vietnam town
Fighting for the red, white and blue
And they locked him up in the Hanoi Hilton
Thinking they could break him in two

He stayed strong, stayed extra long
‘Til they let all the other boys out
Now we’ve got a real man with an American plan
We’re going to put him in the big White House

Well we’re all just raisin’ McCain
Everywhere across the USA
You can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain

Play that American guitar, son
And we’re all just raisin’ McCain
Everywhere across the USA
You can get on the train or get out of the way

We’re all just raisin’ McCain
I said we’re all just raisin’ McCain
Everywhere across the USA
You can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain

Well you can get on the train or get out of the way
We’re all just raisin’ McCain

WAY TO GO RICH !!!!!!!

John Rich is a pretty big country star, but even he couldn’t attract a decent crowd for McCain. Couldn’t even get his partner, “Big Kenny” to join. Looks like it’s now “Old and Rich.”

Comment by McCainiac 08

Did they not publicize this free concert? There couldn’t have been more than a couple hundred people there for a free John Rich concert. Pretty sad.

Comment by tisha

I watched this video looking for proof that the crowd “danced along” to the “hit.” First, I didn’t see any proof of dancing, unless dancing has been redefined as standing still with signs raised overhead. Perhaps this is a kind of postmodern dance in which imagination, but not feet, are involved. And secondly, a “hit”? Has this been burning up the country music charts? A song about a dried up grape? Really?

Are Fox’s “embed” reports typically this inaccurate or is this an anomalous bit of misinformation designed to prop up a pathetic candidate?

umm… for all you people who said it’s dumb, why’d you come here in the first place if you’re opposed to McCain or (god forbid) John Rich? I think it’s cool John would come out and sing for him. would you sing for who you support knowing hundreds of people would be watching?! you probably wouldn’t. so unless you have done what John did, i suggest you shut your face.

I THINK JOHN RICH DID A GREAT SONG. Thank You John Rich for reconizing a Real American…. God Bless America. If we all pull together.

LOL! That song is funny. It’s also incredibly bad. That was a pretty small crowd for a free concert from a well-known country artist in a conservative part of FL. McCain should have tried to get The Decemberists since according to the Republicans they are why tens of thousands of people showed up for an Obama speech.

John Rich is a real jerk who said during the primary that Fred Thompson was the only real conservative running and campaigned for him so I guess he didn’t have much respect for a “war hero” either. The other member of the duo, Big Kenny, is a Democrat and a supporter of Barack Obama.

Someone mentioned the two should go on the road as “Old and Rich!” I couldn’t agree more.

Oh, and Dougie, I know exactly what the Hanoi Hilton was as do a lot of other people. My husband just retired from the Army this past September with 21 years of service. He served in Iraq (and served in SA during Desert Storm) and he and I are both supporting Barack Obama. My husband knows exactly what it is to serve your country, but McCain will not be getting his vote.

Actually was there and what you are seeing is only VIP section, there was easily another 2,000 people there behind the cameras. The final count through the entrance for the event was around 3,000. It was also not a largely publicized event.

Comment by nordstrom

“He’s a real man with an American plan.”

Wow.

Rich really took an artistic leap with that tricky man/plan rhyme scheme. Far out, dude.

Comment by Mike

That’s pretty embarassing. Obama gets 10’s of thousands to show up and even with a star, McCain can only get a few hundred.

Comment by Johnny

This song isn’t that good. I hate Big & Rich and their pop music. If you want to listen to real Country listen to Reckless Kelly.

Comment by AmericanaCountryFan

This song is purely pop by an untalented singer who has no respect for Johnny Cash, Wilie Nelson, and Hank Williams. I’m glad he no longer lives in Texas because Texan don’t want his Pop Country anyways.

Comment by Ted

I’ll admit that the lyrics could be improved a little, but that really isn’t the point of the song it’s to excite the crowd which is obviously what it did. BIg & Rich is Awesome, McCain ‘08!!!

Comment by Texas

Ok, seriously now, the point of the song (after listening to 3 interviews with John Rich) was to get something out there to help support in a positive way. It was not necessarily to become a #1 hit but, to give back, in Rich’s way, by music, something positive for McCain’s campaign. It’s not distasteful, hateful, or obscene unlike the recent song for Obama-name unmentioned. Though some may not like country music and I think Rich’s song could use one more line; it’s upbeat, punchy and short which it should be for time strains while campaigning.

For the ones that have made the comments about “Raisin” referring to the title Raisin McCain as a jab on the grape thing….(and this is not said to put anyone down here but just to explain if you don’t know) Raisin’ is a southern term on the spelling of “Raising” Just like “Ya’ll” - You All
The term “Raising Cain” is an old term and means raising hell, but in a good way. Kind of like one military man saying to another “Go fight, Go give em’ hell”. Go raise Cain. Hence- Raisin McCain.

Good Job John Rich, but your partner is lost in Alice of Wonderland. Obama is to error prone to be the next president. He talks but doesn’t know the facts, as all of his retractions for previous statements he has made, show he is NOT qualified for the job of PRESIDENT.

Comment by David

Thank you for endorsing a great man (McCain), who has stuck his neck out time and time again for good causes. Unlike Obama who was a faculty member for 12 yeras and never published one article!

Comment by Jay

Dang. How complacent can you get as a songwriter?
That’s TERRIBLE. I sincerely hope the McCain campaign distances itself from something like this. I’m not a supporter of the McCain campaign, but I sincerely believe that I and many others can respectfully write Senator McCain a better song. This is like something a 2nd grader would write on the fly

“gee…what rymes with mccain? train. Lets mention a train”

I dont understand why they want mc cain in office hes not gonna help out people… I think Obama will be better for us.. i see what mc cain says on tv, i dont think he cares about us at all. all he probably wants is more money in his pocket. hes not gonna lower gas prices, obama will.. obama is a family man hes the better man for us. so what if hes not white, color doesnt matter. what matters is whos gonna make our country better, and fix the mess were in and lower gas prices..

Obama we want you in our big house.. your what we need to have a better tommarow, u care.. I strongly feel ur the better one for us..
good luck Obama make us proud. I would be proud if u were the president. we need a honest man…

Comment by Tracy

Obama cares, mc cain doesnt .. hes in this for the oil and so he can have more money for his pocket not for us.. mc cain used a popular guy just to get one more vote. he wont lower our gas prices, he’ll raise them.. and for those who dont have alot of money mc cain will only make it worse Obama will make it better.. so what if he was in the war, thats great he was a solider.. im proud he fought for his country then.. but how about now, would he fight for us now too?? why cant they stop giving them selves raises and give the money for the people they so called care about, u know its a lie.. they can live fine on the money they have they dont need more.. our country needs more, not there pockets.
vote for whos gonna help us out, and who cares.

We all were completely excited to see the Straight Talk Express bus pull into the parking lot. I was standing in the front row when Senator McCain stepped onto the stage. It was the most amazing event I’ve ever attended. After Senator McCain’s speech, he walked down from the stage and greeted all of us. When I stuck my hand out to shake his, I looked into his eyes and said, ” God bless you.” When Cindy McCain , by Senator McCain’s side, stepped in front of me, I also told her, ” God bless you.” They both have such a loving spirit about them. Senator McCain will make a wonderful President; and, Cindy McCain will be a great First Lady.

John Rich did a great job singing some of his latest songs. We even heard a couple of his older ones. I especially liked RAISIN’ McCain.

“Well you can get on the train or get out of the way”…Sounds like a CPAC redux of SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP! Way to motivate ‘em John….

Comment by Dwight Weatherford

May be a silly little song but hey who cares…lol. The only thing I care about is to see the absolute destruction of the one the only….the lord Obama!!! Then we can concentrate on getting rid of all the communists…{for those of liberals out there…I mean you!!!} from our country.

Comment by Jay

I can’t believe one of the posters (above) called John McCain “Raisin McCain” …..

THAT’S SO DIVISIVE!

LOVE THAT SONG RICH!!!! JOHN McCAIN IS THE BEST PERSON FOR OUR COUNTRY. HE IS A TRUE PATRIOT! OBAMA JUST PLAIN SCARES ME!!!!! SO DOES HIS WIFE!

Comment by Jessica

THat is what is so awesome about America, that we can all come together and voice our opinion. I am greatful for free speech. That is a great song! It speaks the truth about the man WE want in office. I won’t speak ill of Obama. He is not my choice, and I do not agree with his views or campaign, but I do not know the man personally so I cannot comment on anything more about him.

I do wish that our fellow American’s that do not agree with our stance on views, weren’t so hostile towards an opposing view. I have listned to so many Obama supporters that practically seethe with hatred when it comes to McCain. THat is scarry to me. How the heck are we to live in hostility with one another in the same country and make any sense out of anything if there is so much hate.

I don’t go looking for a web-site that is pro-liberal and try to pick a fight and to me those that do have some sort of moral issue that is so suppressed that it would take years of therapy to calm.

If you don’t like McCain that is ok.Just get the HECK out of the way and go to your libertarian friends that stand for anything and fall for it all.

John Rich Rocks…..
