Obama camp: McCain not using race but is taking “low road”

Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor responds to Davis statement:

“This is a race about big challenges-a slumping economy, a broken foreign policy, and an energy crisis for everyone but the oil companies. Barack Obama in no way believes that the McCain campaign is using race as an issue, but he does believe they’re using the same old low-road politics to distract voters from the real issues in this campaign, and those are the issues he’ll continue to talk about.

Why does the Media let Obama get away with calling himself Black?

He wants to be the First Black President.

In reality he is Bi-Racial.

History shows that there may have been several Bi-Racial Presidents.

Starting with Andrew Jackson, Abraham Lincoln and others who had Mothers of a different race.

So Obama wouldn’t even be the first Bi-Racial President.

Yet we all fall for the Hype.

WHY?

Comment by Gypsy Man

This looks like another flip flop by Obama! He accuses of McCain of telling people not to vote for Obama because of his race, but then changes it to the “low road”.

Obama is not WRIGHT for America!

We know McCain isn’t using the race card. We also know Obama is. Does he really think that we are that ignorant? I am sure that is what he feels about white people. Well Obama, your numbers are going lower and lower everyday. We will not allow a corrupted man in the white house. You should be in jail with Resko. Go ask your constituents that are still living in the slums while you live it up it the big house Resko helped you get. That federal money you helped Resko get should be the reason you are in jail for years and years to come.

Comment by The Patriot

Sen Obama and Surrogates,

The race does NOT become one about the issues you want to talk about. The race becomes one about the issues that concern us, the American People. So don’t give us about what the issues are.

Secondly, why do you play the race card over and over and over and over again? Do you think we are blind and don’t notice?

Don’t try to push issues down our throats. As American People, we know better.

The Patriot.

If Obama is so concerned about our economy then why did he campaign in Europe? Is he going to fix our economy or ours? The Germans can’t vote him into office.

“You take the high road and I’ll take the low road…..” These candidates are running for President of the US and a campaign spokesperson is talking about low roads. Is anyone keeping track of all the song titles Sen. Obama alludes to in his speeches? I’m beginning to lose track.

CcSame and the Rep are “using the same old low-road politics to distract voters from the real issues in this campaign”

People “STAY FOCUS” McSame represent the same failed policies of this current adminstration. The Rep will do anything - including flip-floping and using negative campaign to win this election.
McSame cannot stay with the real issues of this campaign!!!!!!

I think it is interesting that the Obama campaign is accusing the McCain camp of using the race issue when almost the first words he spoke in Germany was “I know I don’t look like the other presidents that have spoken here”

When is he going to get with the issues and leave the whine and cheese act alone?

And he talks of McCain’s lack of economic experience but I have not heard of any experience Obama has on the same. Could someone tell me what experience he has?

Comment by Adrienne T.

If Obama wasn’t such a spineless fool, he’d be out there on the stump himself confronting McCain on the issues instead of shadow boxing from the sidelines like a frightened little schoolboy crying for help. Why anyone of intelligence and integrity would vote for someone with no guts and all glory is beyond me. And he thinks he is going to stop the war, confront the terrorists, solve our domestic problems, and be a world contender for the crown all by strutting his “stuff”? I guess that’s what it’s all about - strutting your stuff, right Ludicrous?

McSame is becoming McDesperate. I’m glad Obama spoke the truth. McCain has nothing good to say about himself so he is constantly going negative. Looks like McCain flip flopped on that promise too.

Is this really the McCain you guys want ?? no wonder he lost to Bush….

Comment by Gary M

Of course Obama’s going to use the race card. It’s the only way he and his groupies know how to win. He used it against Hillary and looked at what it got him. The Magical Mystery Tour last week and what a joke that was. Look at the polls and it’ll show you what the majority and not the minority of this meant to most voters. Now comes Obama with statements that McCain is going to use scare tatics, he doesn’t look like most of the people on American currency. Now if that statement is not racist, what is? Obama himself stated last week in front of the Germans that he stands in front of them not looking like the previous America’s that has spoke there before. As Rev Wright, Mr. Obama’s mentor stated earlier this year, Obama will say whatever it takes to win. That’s politics!

Wake up America, the change this candidate is talking about is not going to be the change you will receive or even want!

Fixed News is hilarious. These “commentaries” and “articles” are one or two paragraphs long. This is indicative of this media company’s desire to lay out over-simplified messages. Real news and commentaries are long drawn out articles containing a detailed analysis of the situation from both sides. Everything i’ve seen on this site so far confirms what many have already noted–that this media company is in the business of swaying mental midgets and people with little time for politics towards the right, by using the lowest common denominator of fear and bumper sticker ideas. If you believe in your ideas so strongly, prove why they are superior. Until you can do this, society will only become more and more educated, more and more savy to the right’s goals, and more and more disenchanted with the right’s ideals. Get in the game for real!!! Also, your readers are poorly educated, based on what has been written above. Go to liberal websites and ask yourselves why you can’t even understand the writings. Perhaps it is connected to why you can’t grasp anything but oversimplified ideas that Fixed News feeds and feeds you. Mcclellan even admitted that they feed you, but you keep eating. ha!

I believe that Senator Obama is a Caucasian male just as much as he is classified as a Black man. Here in the West there seems to be a stigma about Bi-racial status and we all know that Bi means two Universally. White and Black is what Mr. Obama represents he knows first hand what it is like to not be accepted from both worlds. I will not support racism you cannot divide a man into one racial background when he was clearly born into Both. All you hear is Black man thrown around in the Political media. This is disrespectful and rude not to acknowledge his caucasian roots, The blood that flows in his veins are that of a white woman so the color was an added bonus . Smells like Fear!

Obama you know what? this is one of the reasons I and my friends like you and think you are what this country needs. McCain is the same old stuff, but you understand him well. You see time has passed and his chance to lead has also gone . He did good for his country and now he should retire and let the younger people take care. We need a leader like you, Obama, keep up the good work people are starting to open up their eyes and see that your message has substance compared to McCain.

Here’s where the McCain camp ought to remind everyone that Obama himself was quoted as saying he was “feeling more exposed than Paris Hilton…”

Also, he said this as part of his explanation for why he had decided to “absolutely NOT” run for President…before his now infamous supposedly ex-pastor talked him into running afterall.

Comment by Gypsy Man

This explanation is a joke! I don’t know which is worse, Obama playing the race card or trying to lie his way out of it! And he wasn’t even competent enough to come up with something good!

It is obvious that Obama did play the race card, and that Obama is not WRIGHT for America! Hat tip to http://www.notwrightforamerica.com for that great slogan and for being among the first to break this story, that’s where I heard it first.

Comment by KC

Well judy, at least you called them hard working and in so being they are not trash, as for not voting for a man who wants to raise taxes, raise gas prices and has to constantly point out he is a black man but forgets to point out he is also white, who uses the color of his skin to create and reinforce hatred is sickening. No matter how you put it Obama has done just that. All you have to do is read half the blogs on this site and you will see how often his race becomes an issue and WHO brought it up to make it one. If the best a person can do is consistantly point out the color of his skin to get people to vote for him he is a sad example for a candidate. Listen to his, I am a black man, they will use the color of my skin to scare you, they will use that I do not look like the men on our money, I am the first black man. Over and over. And as if that were not bad enough he goes over seas and bashes the U.S., he bashes small town Americans, he tells a reporter he is what the world was waiting for, he insults women calling them sweety and ignoring them. He snubs our wounded then claims it would be used against him if he visited them knowing that no one in their right mind would try that one on. Then you come to his friends and ministers. You need to take a close look at why people do not want the man elected and the last thing on their list is what color he is but the fact that he will tax us to death, and has issues with small town Americans, and America in general. He has no experiance and he wants to disarm our country in a time when that would be foolish. He wants us to stay dependent on foreign oil, and leave us in a dangerous position if we were attacked.

You are correct… Obama is not black.

There is an unwritten slave law that exist in our country where if you have any black heritage, you do not have the priviledge to call yourself white.

So Obama is not white…

This outdated law has historically led people to refer to people with any black heritage as being black. The Bi-racial candiates you mention were still considered white because they had no black heritage.

I know this is a sad commentary on out past relations in this country, but you asked the question.
I also hope that this history can be put our past in perspective and leave this stuff behind.

Comment by Jenny J

It’s interesting that Obama accuses McCain of taking the “Low Road” while his own entire campaign is based on the GUILT OF SLAVERY.

Sorry Barry, I haven’t owned any blacks. Try something else – HONESTY maybe.

Starting a Big Slide now in the Polls so we must change our tune. McCain is not using the race card now? He is taking the Low Road????
This has been a subject from Obamas people since day one.

This is just another FLIP-FLOP by the Obama Campaign.

Yes! HE IS SLIPPING IN THE POLLS, CHECK IT OUT!

Comment by Dave

This is so, McCain is loosing ground and negative politics is the way his temper is running control over him. Sad to see what he has turned into. He said at the start he would not go negative but we all do know how good he is flip flopping.

For all of you right-wing “Fixed News” followers, wake up and look into the other side of the issues! Obama is black and the current republical regime is garbage. Let the rich keep getting richer and watch as you continue to fail as lower and middle class. Republicans - your party hates you!

Comment by BJ Lanford

It seems that the only person who brings us the race card is OBAMA and his campaign. It is always after he is seen slipping in the polls. I have one question for them: IS THAT ALL YOU HAVE GOT? Where are your concrete answers to the dangerous problem with our economy? Why is one of your top bills dealing with Global Poverty, instead with a proposal to end the pain that the average voter is having in their economic lives. Lost jobs, unemployment, high taxes, lost homes, high food and energy costs; these are the items I want my potential President, House and Senate to be working on. I think our Democratic candidate, the House and the Senate have lost touch with the average American citizen and deserves to be replaced by someone who CARES about us and will work to solve OUR problems first and then work on the world’s problems.

Comment by marilyn nelson

Mr. Obama, Why don’t you agree to some “one on one” debates with Senator Mc Cain? Let’s get in front of the people, and have some good discussion about the various issues!..Stop relying on your oratory skills, and do some one on one debating….issues like 1. fixing the energy problem…2, getting our country back on a fiscally sound footing financially, ..and terrorism, yes, how would you propose to help keep America safe? or is that not an issue for you? Particularly, I would like to see you address the re-writing of the “tort” laws…..It is not O.K. for Oil companies and Pharmaceutical companies to make money, but it is o.k., for Joe attorney, to help someone sue a small company for $60,000,000.00 because they lost their pants at the dry cleaners..come on, what do you really think? Let’s have some good old fashioned debates.

Comment by Joe G

Actually the unwritten slave law that you speak of, classifying anyone with any black heritage as black, WAS WRITTEN in many states. It classified anyone who was 1/8 black as black. That means if they had just one great grandmother or great grandfather who was black they were considered black, by law. By those standards Obama is very much not white, and given that this is the sad history of our country he has every right to call himself black.

And to say that he is only running for president because he wants to be the first “black” man in the oval office is far from the truth. You might have been able to say that about Hillary wanting to be the first woman president, but it’s a stretch to say something similar about Obama. At one point he did say that he would definitely NOT run for president and only changed his mind once he was convinced could do the best job leading this country in the right direction. He actually cares about making America better, not his own gain.

If you think his campaign is entirely based on the guilt of slavery you are moron and haven’t been paying any attention whatsoever. You’re sadly confusing him with someone like Jessie Jackson. Obama is a completely different kind of politician. Get a clue.

Comment by bobby drake

Tommy Vietor was right on point with this comment. Look at the ad where the republican party tried to make Sen. Obama out to be some Holywood guy. Instead of focusing on the ISSUES, the RNC is going to use Karl Rove’s 2004 blueprint of smear and fear tactics. Where in that comercial were the slumping economy, a broken foreign policy, and an energy crisis for everyone but the oil companies mentioned?

But wait, it’s only Aug…

As the days wind down and the republican hopes start to diminish, the attacks will get lower and lower. The Willy Horton incident of 1988 look like a public service anouncement for racial harmony compaired to the ads the RNC will release. They’ll use everything but the N word to smear Sen. Obama, his supporters, and the people that his policies will benifit. Sen. Clinton gave it a shot with the “he’s not electable (because white people won’t vote for a black guy)” argument.

But it failed.

You same fools voted for Bust twice!!!!!

“You know, he doesn’t look like all those other Presidents on those dollar bills, you know.” - Barack Obama

Barack Obama makes such an outrageous remark about what he thinks MCCain is “saying about him”, and then when called on it by the McCain camp, Obama’s campaign team has to cover his butt for injecting “race” into the race once again.

This is exactly what Barack Obama did to Hillary and Bill Clinton. If criticized, claim the critic is a racist. It worked well for Obama in the primary. In fact, it is becoming more and more apparent that this defense mechanism is what he resorts to when he has no defense, which is quite often.

P.S.
Is it Presidential for a candidate to use “you know” twice in the same sentence?

Here is the post again for you ADD repukes… This is what the race is about!!!

Look if one more right wing wack case says Obama is going to raise your taxes I will puke. If you are making over 500 K than yes you will see a tax increase, sorry he will. America (the working folks) will prosper with out the burdens of higher Health care, education ect . Its pretty simple let me lay it out for you nut jobs…..

1) The useless War in Iraq 1.7 Trillion after it’s all totaled up record Federal Defecits.
2) The loss of American Jobs oversee’s, record trade deficits
3) The balloning debt by every American to pay for record oil profits.

This amounts to a weaker dollar which is one reason oil is sooooo high. Traders with no other way to make money are looking to comodities which is creating a very large bubble.

The only thing drilling will help, is 13 years down the road we may lower gas pricies 25 cents a gallon.

Obama is very pathetic. He accuses McCain of being racist and using his race to deter people from voting for him, then he says that is not what he meant. Yet he keeps saying it over and over again. He can’t debate issues so he says McCain and anyone that has anything to say about him is racist. I can see him and his militant wife crying about how racist this country is when he loses. I wonder how he will explain it to his Hamas friends.

Now it’s the “low road”? Why? I’m beginning to think that in Obama’s mind, anyone who is not just going to hand him his “historic” moment (the presidency) is on the “low road”…What an infant! Since when is anyone is entitled to any historic anything. Let Obama actually do something of value, not just pontificate and assume that he is entitled to the highest office in the land! This country is about opportunity, not entitlement.

And just as an aside, in addition to the arrogance that presumes his election, Obama seems to feel that any candidate who does not allow Obama to run their campaign as well as his own, is capaigning in a racial biased, negative and “low-road” manner. What? Is this an indicator as to the future of free speech in this country.? He doesn’t like McCain’s Paris & Brittany ads? SO WHAT? He should spend his time making better ads himself and letting America decide how they feel about these ads (and thereby these candidates). He is just confirming what a whiner he is.

As the economy heads into a depression, with geo-politics and political economic issues at the forefront it is shameful that McCain is not assembling an economic team to roll out short, meduim and long term strategic options and define why and how he would get the economy up and running. Going negative on Obama woulld not be enough to win the election. Going negative while defining your economic vision is the best way. People are worried about every economic indicator and he talks about the surge the surge the surge….. it is good but bread and butter issues like how we see off China, how we develop sustainable alternative to the ernegy crisis etc… would do the trick. I really believe that his lucklustre campaign is due to lack of the VISION thing

To unclepat: As a liberal, Independent voter I have read the blogs for many months and the Obama supporters are as nasty to Senator McCain as they were to Senator Clinton. There is a reason many people do not want to vote for Obama and I can assure you, it will not be based on the color of his skin. And of course, if he loses, it will be because he wants to make it a racial issue.

I’m not voting for Obama because he gave Hillary the finger and laughed about it after the ABC debates.

Comment by Sean the thinker

Ted Sampley, who fought with US Special Forces in Vietnam and is now a leading campaigner for veterans’ rights, said: ‘I have been following John McCain’s career for nearly 20 years. I know him personally. There is something wrong with this guy and let me tell you what it is – deceit.

‘When he came home and saw that Carol, his first wife, was not the beauty he left behind, he started running around on her almost right away. Everybody around him knew it.

‘Eventually he met Cindy and she was young and beautiful and very wealthy. At that point McCain just dumped Carol for something he thought was better.

‘This is a guy who makes such a big deal about his character. He has no character. He is a fake. If there was any character in that first marriage, it all belonged to Carol.’

One old friend of the McCains said: ‘Carol always insists she is not bitter, but I think that’s a defence mechanism. She also feels deeply in his debt because in return for her agreement to a divorce, he promised to pay for her medical care for the rest of her life.’

Carol remained resolutely loyal as McCain’s political star rose. She says she agreed to talk to The Mail on Sunday only because she wanted to publicise her support for the man who abandoned her.

Indeed, the old Mercedes that she uses to run errands displays both a disabled badge and a sticker encouraging people to vote for her ex-husband. ‘He’s a good guy,’ she assured us. ‘We are still good friends. He is the best man for president.’

But Ross Perot, who paid her medical bills all those years ago, now believes that both Carol McCain and the American people have been taken in by a man who is unusually slick and cruel – even by the standards of modern politics.

‘McCain is the classic opportunist. He’s always reaching for attention and glory,’ he said.

‘After he came home, Carol walked with a limp. So he threw her over for a poster girl with big money from Arizona. And the rest is history.’

True story.

I don’t consider myself and/or my associates as “stupid” to some of these “coded comments” emitting from the Barack Husein Obama’s mouth…..or for that matter what he “implies” in his remarks. He is a liar and manipulator and yes a self imposed devine one who loves talking “down” to America!

Example: This morning (8/2/08) from Florida during his news conference, campaign conference, his words re: the “race issue”……….”I just don’t come from central casting”….meaning, “I ain’t white!”……… and shamefully, this went totally unchallenged by the young, mind dead news media present! And yes, this includes many of you who can’t figure this out.

Recent past: I don’t resemble those faces on the one dollar bill or five dollar bill….meaning, “I ain’t white!…….many in America ain’t stupid Dude, that’s raceism of the purest kind!

Race is one HELLAVA ISSUE in this campaign and Barack Husein Obama’s knows it, fosters it and playes it and depends upon it being an issue.

Who in history does Barack Husein Obama remind you of? Well my answer to that is, (drum roll here)…………ELMER GANTRY, a white man, traveling preacher, huckster, snake oil salesmen, who had the same ability with his also silver tongue, to attrack, convince, attrack the “followers” in our American culture……who can be led.

Continuation of oil exploration and drilling is the only wise choice at this time. I will also take a long, long time to develope other means of energy……commen sense, idiot! Got any idea what a “battery pack” would cost in a Electric Car……..where are the recharging stations………

This is my basic opinion of Barack Husein Obama and the Demoncratic agenda……they want to revisit the issues of the past……..he/they want a rebirth of slavery in America! “Keep the less advantaged, the uneducated and black “n” white, goverment program dependent population of America, totally dependent on the goverment/Demoncratic party for survival!

Socialism in the making…….want it, then believe in and vote for Barack Husein Obama.
