Britney and Barack: Day Two
After lashing out at John McCain for promoting off-shore oil drilling as a solution to the energy crisis only after meeting with a group of oil executives — and then receiving more than $1 million from oil company employees after announcing his plan — Obama took his GOP rival to task for an ad comparing the Illinois Senator to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.
“Given the seriousness of the issues, given the fact that the decisions that we make right now are going to help to determine the future not just of next generation but perhaps generations after that, given the magnitude of our challenges when it comes to energy and health care and jobs and our foreign policy, you’d think that we’d be having a serious debate,” he told a crowd in Cedar Rapids, IA. “But so far, all we’ve been hearing about is Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.”
Obama’s referring to the latest McCain ad, called “Celeb,” that uses brief images of the two young women who are mostly famous simply for being famous — along with pictures from Obama’s massive speech in Berlin to argue that he’s all flash, no substance.
Obama seemed to disagree. “I do have to ask my opponent, is that the best you could come up with?” he said to cheers. “Is that really what this election’s about? Is that really what is worthy of the American people?”
“I’m not interested in getting into a tit for tat. These negative ads, these negative attacks, spending all this time talking about me instead of talking about what he’s going to do - that’s not going to lower your gas prices,” said Obama. “It doesn’t do a single thing to help the American people. It’s politics as a game. But the time for game playing is over, that’s why I’m running for president.”
John McCain, however, isn’t backing down. Asked whether “Celeb” represents a flip-flop on earlier pledges to run an honorable campaign, McCain insisted that the controversial ad was about a substantive difference between the two candidates. “Campaigns are tough, but I am proud of the campaign that we have run,” he said. “All I can say is that we are proud of that commercial.”

This guy is really something else. But what is the question…. People are starting to see right through him.
Democrate for anyone but……
http://www.therealmccain.com
Oh, god. I’m glad to hear that McCain is now moving to the Southern Strategy. That should work the best.
And “citizenwells”: Obama has to get in line! Messrs. W. Bush and Cheney have a far longer and more substantial record of high crimes and misdemeanors ready for prosecution than does the junior senator from Illinois. If the smears and lies on obambi.com are the closest you can get, it’s going to be a long fight!
I have never seen such fear and desperations as I do in the McCain campaign organization. Their fear actually frightens me…because it shows that they will talk about anything BUT the issues. Sad little campaign…
So sad that the McCain campaign has nothing to run on except attacking Senator Obama.
I’m so tired of this… obviously McCain has nothing useful to say. Why don’t we just get it over with and vote now. His ads are an embarrassment to the intelligence of the American public. I mean really, when did our election become a reality TV show? Give it a rest, and you too Citizenwells - he’s not elected yet.
Given how upset Obama is of this campaign ad, one can only asks if that’s all he can say. Please define yourself and tell us what you will DO. Don’t go around the world campaigning to be the President of the world, stating empty promises.
Barack Obama has greasy eyelids. He’s using an old choirboy trick of putting Vaseline on his eyelids… makes him look more angelic. Looks like celestial light coming down from above, even in the worst lighting.
That’s what we need in the Oval office: Ol’ Greasyeyes!
Since noticing it, even when he’s outside at a country fair eating local Jam, he’s got those greasy eyelids and I can’t look away.
Can he blink those greasy eyes all the way into the WhiteHouse?
Blinkonce for yes, twice for no, and three times for “Don’t ask me about my middle name.”
Phil from Philly
Hey Citizenwells,
Thats got to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard! Impeach Obama??? You must be some right wing nut job that has nothing better to do with his time than come up with idiotic ideas. Do the world a favor and shut the h— up and stop promoting your hatred to others. Barack Obama is this nations last and greatest hope for redemption in this world. I can’t wait untill he wins against that walking tumor you call a candidate!
WE NEED A “CELEB” THE WHOLE PLANET CAN IDOLIZE………
GOBAMA08
Hey, Barry, you asked for it. You act like a celebrity and don’t respond sincerely to any of McCain’s points about serious policy differences (like the Iraq surge, school vouchers, taxes, etc), you lie in front of Latino voters and make it seem like McCain was anti-immigrant when Obama sabotaged the immigration bill and voted for a wall between Mexico and the US…. and then you act like a celebrity, act like a celebrity…. And then McCain can’t criticize you by comparing you to other celebrities? How is that using “scare tactics”? How is that remotely unfair? McCain wants to win, so he’s fighting you. Did you expect McCain to roll over so you can go and be crowned?
Who’s the whiner now, Barack?
Impeach? Why? Because he is right about so many policies that McCain is wrong about?
Vote Hate, Vote McCain.
Ridicule Paris Hilton through Obama when Paris Hilton’s father is a contributor to McCain’s campaign? That should be the real story.
I’m a Hillary supporter still disgusted by the treatment she received from the Democratic Party. Ever since the Party handed Obama the nod on the proverbial radical left wing platter, I’ve been trying to think of reasons why I should vote for him. As the summer evolved his behavior has done nothing to change my view of him as inadequate to be POTUS. Something drastic would have to happen to change my lean towards McCain now, because I view Obama as an empty suit.
I think that it’s pitiful how desperate and fearful the McCain organization is. So sad.

Wow. This is the most comically stupid attempt yet by the GOP to bash a candidate. How about this slogan: Morons for McCain.
I love that McCain and Fox are so scared they need to revert to Obama bashing. Fox considers itself independent - what a farce!!! McCain is a scared, out of touch old man. Time to move on.
Impeach BUSH who is a liar, felon, and can’t be transparent because he would be convicted.
judging by the mere rhetoric of mccain we can see that obama clearly deserves to win this election. impeach mccain
Please, ‘no spin zone’. Way to spin this against Obama.
McCain is the one suckering people with this drilling line- in reality, its not that much oil, it’s really bad for the environment, and there are a lot of other better ways to get energy. Trying to get this poor quality oil is just us being oil addicts, begging for another hit. I’d rather get a president who won’t just allow us to keep feeding our addictions.
People complain about a liberal media bias, but it’s not evident at Fox- Fox has a neoconservative rich people bias. Which is worse??
I think Obama learned something from Ron Paul’s success.
I am disappointed by McCain’s current attack ad stragegy.
The real story here is about McCain in the first sentence. This was of course ignored so that FOX News could continue to spread Republican propaganda. The celebritney worshippers in the GOP are telling us much more about themselves than anything about President Obama.
Those who resort to sarcasm generally do so because they can not win an argument based the facts or logic.
I used to think that McCain was a reasonable individual with principles. I guess I was wrong.
Impeach Obama? You must be out your mind. You really want another Bush in office? Obama may be our only hope to survive this crisis that this country is in. McCain gets in office this country as we know it is done. All of our money will be sent into Iraq fighting some war that we really shouldn’t even be fighting. WMD’s……….Where?
If John McCain is “proud” of his “Celeb” commercial, he demonstrates only that he is not qualified to be President of this country. It would be interesting to hear him explain exactly what about the commercial he takes pride in. Of course, I don’t think he would be willing (or able) to answer the question.
Clearly, he lacks integrity and a sense of honor. Perhaps that is the price he is paying for his nomination. Or perhaps he lacked those qualities in the first place.
obama has very clear and powerful rhetoric. compare it to mccain. all he can do is some pop-culture BS? give obama the key to the white house, impeach mccain
What in the world has Obama done that would justify impeachment? Or, citizenwells, are you just a conservative troll trying any tactic possible to smear the man who opposes the one you want elected whether or not there is verfiable evidence to support your claims that your man’s opponent has done anything wrong at all?
I guess what I’m really asking is: Why should anyone sign this petition? And, what makes you think impeachment is warranted in Obama’s case?
Wow.
How far has politics backslided? Of course ALL politicians are overpaid, overly glorified, and overly respected. Maybe they should get paid what the average American gets paid and THEN we can discuss the economy.
Of course you also have idiots like citizenwells here who have nothing to say but breed ignorance. Where’s the Impeach Bush link? Well you probably think he’s done a heck of a job anyway. How much stock in oil do YOU own?
Oh wait! I forgot this was a Fox News website. They’ve always been a fair and equal source of information.
Post that without editing.
I dare you.
There are only two people that should be impeached at this time and they are not in the senate. Well one is but only if there is a tie.
Is this an opinion piece or news? Nothing on the website says “editorial” so I assume that FoxNews intends this to be news. The entire run-on first sentence is just a series of statements that are not given context or substantiated and are clearly tilted. What is the author referring to with the “lashing out” and how about putting a link up for a story that describes the 1 million dollars from oil execs. A fair and balanced story would do the research and compare and contrast McCain and Obama’s contributions from oil execs. The rest of the article is factually fine but the first paragraph frames it in a way that is far from fair and balanced. I hope that people find other news sources than Fox News. I think this just reaffirms arguments made by Obama’s campaign that the people trying to bring him down seem to be desparately grasping at whatever they can to disparage his image.
“All I can say is that we are proud of that commercial.” That’s our future President… all over the issues! He’s got my vote.
John McCain has flipped…. whatever was left of his brain…The poor guy is totally out of the ball park…Him for President..Absolutely No Way…What does Paris & Britney have to do with Obama and the election?????
HAHAHAHA are you kidding me?
You are indeed priceless citizenwells, I’m glad I live in a country where you can voice your opinion and I can laugh it for being so horrible.
Anyways, McCain needs to get his act together and stop these Jerry Springer attacks. The guy is solid, and if he campaigns the way he did in the primaries he has a decent chance. He’s listening to the wrong people right now.
What was Ronald Reagan?
“All I can say is that we are proud of that commercial.” John McCain.
If this is the type of campaign that John McCain is proud of, then shame on those American’s that would even consider someone like that as Presidential material.
The Republican’s just can’t seem to handle intellect. They don’t have the capacity to understand that their way of dong things up to now is over. They’ve gotten away with denegrating, demeaning, and disparaging their opponents long enough. Now they’ve met their match and they don’t know what to do about it.
Obama is not playing the game the way they want (dirty that is). This man is so far above them with regard to dignity and intelligence, that it is almost embarassing. This John McCain is not the same John McCain that ran for the Presidency in 2000.
Virtually everything that the Republican’s have said, to attack Barack Obama, has been disproved and shown to be lies by FactCheck.com.
yea ok , borox , your silly decisions are going to effect the next twenty generations,
dont flatter yourself
you dolt
Barack Obama has more integrity in his pinkie finger than either John Mc Cain or Fox News period. he also has a lot more intellect than Grumpy and of course Barack will win the Presidency thank you very much.
Of course, it’s also possible that Senator McCain turns to stories about Britney BEFORE he turns to anything else in the news, and he thought he was complimenting Obama.
John McCain is proud of the “Celeb” ad? This is not the person I knew him to be a year ago. I don’t know what kind of nitwits the McCain campaigners think would be swayed by this. Disgusting, John. My advice would be to fire the Rovians who dreamed up this “Celeb” ad and replace them with people with a little more talent; those who could effectively give voice to the high ideals and concrete plans that we know you have…or at least, that we hope you have. It’s difficult to tell so far, given this style of campaign.
They haven’t even ELECTED him yet and ALREADY the Conservative NUTS are set to impeach him.
But for McCain’s ad have to be expected. This is how republicans campaign. No one should be shocked and McCain is just like his predecessors in the GOP.
And it’s not shocking this is on FOX! You people at FOX would make Joseph Goebbels PROUD AS PUNCH. You take propaganda to NEW HEIGHTS!
Fox can’t even get their Pop Icons straight. The version of the story I’m reading right now online says:
“the latest McCain ad, called “Celeb,” that uses brief images of the two young women who are mostly famous simply for being famous”
That is true for Paris, but even this old geezer has heard enough Britney Spears songs on the radio to know that she earned her fame by becoming popular music star through her music.
I could care less about defending Britney, but that’s a far cry from being “famous simply for being famous” as Fox states.
Time for that re-write, boys. If you are going to try and make a real story out of an obvious manufactured made-for-TV-pundits campaign ploy, please at least get your facts straight.
McCain just can’t get enough of rich, blond, skinny, drug addict young women.
The “caleb” add is just another reason why people don’t want to get involved in politics, or even voting. I think even the average IQ voter must have enough common sense to know that such a campaign is ignorant and shallow that spends money to create and air something like this McCAin ad to the public.
I cannot believe that given the issues of the day people and the Media are not demanding real information and actual discussion of these critical issues at this critical time. God help us!!
Impeach Obama? You’ve lost your mind, Citizenwells. In a time when the executive branch is just making up rules as they go, having to have to Supreme Court slap their hand time and time again - you honestly think that OBAMA needs impeached? Yikes. I think you need to re-read the Constitution. Namely the part on the seperation of powers.
Do you think McCain is senile? Maybe he can’t tell them apart or something? It’s just like a grumpy old guy railing against young people in general. But he doesn’t even know which popstars are popular, so he just kind of grasps at some vague names he heard about in the paper. Grumbles about their loud music and newfangled clothes.
This is truly a desperate act by a desperate man! McCain can’t get any attention so like a small child does.. he stomps his feet and whines until someone looks his direction! Much like the pathetic emails circulating about how bad Obama is.. blah blah blah! Come on Johnny, find something concrete to stand on then go from there.. these attacks are pathetic!
This is truly a desperate act by a desperate man! Much like the pathetic emails circulating about how bad Obama is.. blah blah blah! Come on Johnny, find something concrete to stand on then go from there.. these attacks are pathetic!
Is this really the topic? Sounds like McCain is a bit jealous that his positions are not getting attention. I wonder why? Maybe because the American people are tired of the same old (no pun intended) games with our pocketbooks and big business.
If McCain is going to be a serious contender, he needs to stop the negative ads, focusing on Obama’s popularity, and start thinking outside the box how America can be run better than under Bush. So far, it sounds too much like the last 8 years.
Agreed. All McCain seems to be doing is criticizing Obama. Why doesn’t he get out there and let us know what he plans to do if elected as President. I don’t see him doing anything positive or uplifitng and let’s not forget that this is the same McCain who cheated on his first wife for his second. If he wants to criticize people he should look first at himself. Obama has been running a clean campaign and focusing on the issues. McCain just comes out looking like a grumpy old man focused on blinding the public by publicly attacking his competition.
McSame is becoming McDesperate. I’m glad Obama spoke the truth. McCain has nothing good to say about himself so he is constantly going negative. Looks like McCain flip flopped on that promise too.
I CANT EVEN POST ON FOX. YOU GUYS ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE TRUTH ANYMORE.
“McCain defended his campaign and the ad. “Campaigns are tough, but I am proud of the campaign that we have run,” he said. “All I can say is that we are proud of that commercial.” ”
Are people really going to vote for this guy?
Obama: “Is that the best you can come up with?” … well, it may not be as good as solving our energy problem, by adding air to our tires. but, hey Obama … if you want substance between you and McCain … then, why do you refuse to debate him in 10 town hall meetings? Obama has been attacking his opponents … first Hillary … now McCain, by way of his supporters … who he has to keep distancing himself from, only after they’re caught that is, to give the appearance that he is not involved in the attacks. As far as Obama looking different than the Presidents on our dollar bills … this presumptuous, pompous, arrogant candidate is probably already planning how he will redesign our currency, with his picture on it, like the way he redesigned the Presidential seal … that is, whenever he can take some time away from accusing everybody who disagrees with him of being a racist. Obama is a cry baby, who is not qualified to be President of the United States.
Maybe with his $money$ B.O. can buy all those “votes for Sale” in Alabama???
Government = your country on ‘GREED’
BO is a Thug/politician wanna be.
kiss off petition
Thats funny, impeach Obama, for what ?? according to the godly McCain he have done nothing….
But poor McCain it was the best he could come up with… he must be in deep envy with the young, smart and good looking ones…. Must be sad not to have any personality or karma nor style..
remember he changed his mangled wife out with a rich stepford wife…
So what good values do he really have ?? he did not love this country to he had been in war…
Back in 2000, I preferred Sen. McCain over Gov. Bush and was impressed by his integrity, his willingness to go against the establishment, to speak his mind regarding substantive issues, among other things. He stood up to the personal, petty and unfair assaults on his military and POW record. Now, however, Sen. McCain seems to have strayed. His criticisms of Sen. Obama seem similarly as petty, uninspired and at odds with his espoused priorities as the personal assaults he endured 8 years ago. I’m surprised and chagrined by Sen. McCain’s divergence from his former stand-up behavior.
impeach nothing - just slap him, and send him to his room…
Lordy, citizenwells, you sure are convincing.
McCain is proud of that commercial. It doesn’t take much to make McCain proud. By the way citizenwells who can’t use your own name….. you can’t impeach Obama. Were you referring to George Bush ?
If obama and democrats are not playing games why are they going on 5 weeks of vacation while the US economy and people are suffering over this stalled energy bill. This is what makes the wheel go round!!! ( No Pun intended) It’s clearly the democrats falt, after all they hold the cards and a failing to lay them on table. Drill and seek every possible energy source immediately like acting after DECEMBER 7th 1941. 78% of Americans want this. You are suppose to be for the people by the people, not these enviro groups that only make up a small percentage of the population. This is about NATIONAL SECURITY!!!
Looks to me like you report, you decide, FOX News.
Fox News should remove the “News” from their name and just call themselves what they are: the Fox GOP Network. They decide. You concur.
What, is Sen. Obama upset that his speech and the visuals were used McCain’s campaign? He left himself open to this by his actions in Germany.
To the person that calls for an impeachment-what a waste of time- calling for them to resign from the Senate is a better approach. Obama and McCain should both have to resign from the Senate-they are taking a salary from the taxpayers and not at their jobs right now. Because we have 2 senators running for President the Senate and Congress are virtually inoperable. Sen. Reid and Nancy Pelosi will not allow anything to be done regarding the energy crisis because the Republicans might get some credit and the extreme end of their base would not like it. It is no longer what is good for the people but what is good for the politician.
What the Fox? You fox-ups are losing and that’s all grampy McSame has to offer? Pathetic.
Impeach Sen. Obama doesn’t even merit a response. Fool!
Change is coming. Join the wave or get swept away in the under tow. Surf’s up!
Those arguing that this projects poorly on Obama may fail to realize that Britney is on record as a BUSH supporter. Which sounds about right, if ya ask me.
It is sad that J.M. has decided to end his political life with such childish desperation.
I think John is a tragic example of what Obama refers to as “the system boiling all the hope out of you”.
It’s really sad. So many of you are really ignorant and proud of it. Greasy eyelids. Is that what the …. you’re worried about? Do you have health insurance? The kind that would give you a heart transplant and pay for it all? You don’t sound like it. Do you like the fact that the richest 1% of Americans get the best tax breaks. Are you not worried about your wallet. Are you more consumed with all this junk that McCain is using to unsell Barack than you are your own well being. When did being an educated American become a sin? People with higher ed degress are voting for Obama and people with nada in their pockets and brains are voting for McCain. Republicans survive by keeping their base in poorly funded schools so they remain ignorant. Yahoo. Vote for McCain. He’s rich as h– by the way.
What a bunch of baloney. It is pretty clear that this was all orchestrated. Didn’t Bush just rescind the exeutive order that banned offshore drilling a couple of weeks ago? He and the Republican controlled House and Senate could have just done this a couple of years ago, but they didn’t, infact lets not forget that they didn’t want to divert a drop of oil from the strategic reserve. Even if the congress were to uplift the ban it would take years (ten is what the economists and engineers are saying) to realize any benefit and even then it would only be a penny per gallon. If we raise CAFE standards by 1 mpg it would save more fuel than we would be able to extract. Don’t be fooled people. Question everything you hear, especially on “News” channels who take their cues from the administration in power.
Bruiser, what change? I haven’t seen a solid stance on anything. I have noticed both parties accusing each other of avoiding the “real” issues, but I have yet to here of a scheduled debate. I believe that will show the true colors of both candidates. I also think that it was a good idea for Obama to go survey the front in the Middle East, but I don’t think it was right for him to parade across Europe as if he is running for a World office.

“What, is Sen. Obama upset that his speech and the visuals were used McCain’s campaign? He left himself open to this by his actions in Germany.”
—
Didn’t you happen to notice that the video playing behind the statement that Obama didn’t visit/support the troops shows Obama with the troops in a gym in Afghanistan? Don’t you find that to be just a wee bit hysterical?
I’m very dissapointed in Senator McCain. He said over and over that he wouldn’t run a negative campaign, but he would keep it clean from mudslinging. Also, myself having faith like Ronald Reagan, wonders why all we have to choose from anymore is adulterors. McCain admits to having an affair on his first wife. You know what happens when you become President; you usually fall into deeper wrongs than you did before. I think he needs to pick Mit Romney for running mate, as far as I know he hasn’t had many scandals on him unlike McCain. After Huckabee making the Assassination joke at the NRA Rally, I am dissapointed in him. Why are conservitives falling into hypocrisy. You expect it from liberals. I guess it made me sick when I heard Ginrich admit he was in an adulturous relationship while investigating Clinton. Why is everyone in politics becoming liars in this country?
Maybe Obama should run a ad with John McCain with a bunch of people his age in it. The ad could highlight that this is what our future looks like with John McCain.
But no, Obama has more class than this.
All you cry baby liberals keep on crying, and knocking fox news, but the
truth is more people watch fox, than all the other cable news COMBINED.
listen to the ultra liberal chris mattews who gets thrills runnung down his
legs when he hears the fraud obama, or listen to that whack job
keith oberman, who gets about 200,000 listeners,or mattews who gets
about 300,000 listeners,while bill o’reilly gets 2 1/2 million viewers. and
by the when you stop your crying check the ratings.
the way the liberal media treated Hillary CLINTON is a disgrace……………
WAKE UP LIBERALS OBAMA IS A FRAUD………………….
l
All you Obama supporters are sheep. What the heck has he SAID he is going to do, other than exact CHANGE? Okay Obama, tell us what you’re going to do, huh? You’re a JUNIOR SENATOR with ZERO experience, a horrible voting record, yet you feel you’re ready to lead the greatest Nation on earth? You’re a Hypocrite, Racist, Socialist do nothing! Your supporters are sheep, blinded by this fact, willing to believe ANYTHING you say! Just like the American fascination with Hollywood types (who cares), the fascination with you is shallow and misguided. Hence, the ad comparing you to Britney and Paris.
Wake up Liberals before every right you possess is gone.

______________________________________________________________________________
Just in case you haevn’t been following…Obama is NOT upset about it…he actually laughed about how ridiculous it actually was.
secundo, Obama has been saying what he would do all the way, visit his website if you dont remember. We all know what he wants to do with healthcare, economics, the war, education, Gaz issue.
All we knew McCain wanted to do is war…not he doesn’t seem to be sure anymore…so we curretly have no idea what McCain wants to do.
About going all around the wolrd, McCain did it before Obama and he also gave speeches…( not as good, but he did)…The only thing is that nobody cared.
be good…and God bless
It seems that the only person who brings us the race card is OBAMA and his campaign. It is always after he is seen slipping in the polls. I have one question for them: IS THAT ALL YOU HAVE GOT? Where are your concrete answers to the dangerous problem with our economy? Why is one of your top bills dealing with Global Poverty, instead with a proposal to end the pain that the average voter is having in their economic lives. Lost jobs, unemployment, high taxes, lost homes, high food and energy costs; these are the items I want my potential President, House and Senate to be working on. I think our Democratic candidate, the House and the Senate have lost touch with the average American citizen and deserves to be replaced by someone who CARES about us and will work to solve OUR problems first and then work on the world’s problems.
Obama is a lier and a fake and those who believe anything he says are mentally challanged.
Oops obama dit it again whit his socialist views ho baby, baby. we know hes not innocent.
I can see that the Obama fans are starting to blog on Fox. Is it because their candidate is falling in the polls?
“you’d think that we’d be having a serious debate,” said Obama in the article.
Hmmmm….John McCain invited Obama to participate in town hall discussions, and Obama turned him down….
It’s about time McCain ran this ad. I agree with it totally. Obama is like these air=heads. They are famous for nothing. They are all “fluff” Obama’s message, as I hear it is this, work hard get a good education, get out of poverty, but if you become too successful, then we’ ll have to take half your money. Because we cannot allow you to be too successful. Sounds like Castro’s Cuba to me. it seems to me that obama’s message is confusing.
