Obama Returns to the U.S.A.
Barack Obama touched down at Chicago’s Midway Airport last night at 8:20pm, Central time, 10 days and 9 nations after he departed his hometown for the Middle East. Before the candidate deplaned after the 8-hour flight from London, he popped into the staff section of his plane, which was filled with advisors and senior staffers. Press couldn’t hear what Obama said to them, but in response, the team cheered and applauded.
The candidate was greeted by his wife and two daughters at the airport and told waiting to reporters that it was ‘good to be back.” Today he joked, “Usually, I have to beg just to make sure that [the kids are] not asleep when I get home. But they surprised me at the airport, which was wonderful.”
Just hours after landing, Obama was back at it this morning, speaking at a UNITY, a Journalists of Color conference in Chicago. A still weary candidate told the audience he would go home and take a nap following his appearance, but according to his protective press pool, Obama worked out and got a haircut.
While images of a presidential-looking Barack Obama have dominated the airwaves and the front pages of newspapers here at home for the past 9 days, Republicans have criticized Obama’s trip, calling it presumptuous, and as a moderator said today, “audacious.”
Obama pointed out McCain has traveled abroad to meet with world leaders as well, yet nobody characterized his trips that way. “I think people assumed that what he was doing was … talk to world leaders who we may have deal with should we become president. That’s part of the job that I’m applying for,” he said. “Now, I admit we did it really well. But that shouldn’t be a strike against me,” Obama said to laughter. “You know, if I was bumbling and fumbling through this thing, I would have been criticized for that.”
Indeed the Republicans did watch Obama’s every move and pounced when they could. When the Democrat cancelled a visit to Landstuhl medical center in Germany, the McCain campaign responded with an ad claiming while Obama had time to work out in Germany at the Ritz Carlton, he did not have time to visit with wounded troops as he was in an early schedule.
The Obama campaign noted the video used in the GOP ad showed Obama shooting hoops with soldiers. “John McCain never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity,” a senior advisor said while waiting to go through customs late last night in Chicago, reminding reporters Obama stopped by Walter Reed weeks ago without any press.
Yesterday in London, Obama explained why he chose not to visit the troops. “The last thing that I want to do is have injured soldiers and the staff at these wonderful institutions having to sort through whether this is political or not or get caught in the crossfire between campaigns. So rather than go forward and potentially get caught up in what might have been seen as a political controvesy of some sort what we decided was that we would not make a visit and instead I would call some of the troops who were there,” he told reporters standing in front of 10 Downing Street.
Despite the Landstuhl controversy, the one term senator looked sure and confident standing next to the world leaders with whom he met, and overall it appears as though the trip helped Obama as polls show a modest bump. “In terms of me governing, being an effective president, that trip was helpful, because I think I’ve established relationships and a certain bond of trust with key leaders around the world who have taken measure of my positions and how I operate and I think can come away with some confidence that this is somebody I can deal with,” he observed.
But he acknowledged, “A week of me focusing on international issues doesn’t necessarily translate into higher poll numbers here in the United States, because people are understandably concerned about the immediate effects of the economy. And that’s what we will be talking about for the duration.”
The candidate will have a full day of campaign events next week, but is expected to take a break next month. When the British Conservative Party leader told Obama he needed a break, Obama agreed, “You’ve got to refresh yourself…I am going to take a week in August.”

As much as I haven’t chosen the candidate that will receive my vote. FOX NEWS has made my mind up for me. Barack Obama’s actions have out weighed McCain lip service any day of the week. Sen. Obama will receive my vote and loyal support, as the media has done nothing but harass and judge this man, who has tried continuously to bring healing and respect to this country’s tarnished reputation. McCain has done nothing more than whine and criticize the better man. His insecurities , lack of know how and slanderous remarks;disallows him the ability to speak to all Americans on topics that matters in today’s crisis fixed world. I am tired of FOX News catering to his bias and unfounded statements. The world is ready for a change!
The mere fact that other countries around the world collectively are responding postively to an African American Male representing this hated country is proof enough that times have changed, and the world is ready to embrace this change for the better. We need to heal the land and stop the racism. As a White middle age female,who has always voted as a stern conservative republican, I am ashamed of how we as a party treat different cultures and races that may have better ideas to help resolve homeland issues as well as abroad. I am disappointed in FOX’s shrewd and unfair reporting of the campaign surrounding Sen. Obama.

If Obama had visited the troops in Germany, I’m sure there would be an ad about how Obama uses our troops for political gain. Let’s face it, it was a bad week for McCain, and he’s starting to look petty with all his complaining. Perhaps he should’ve used this week to set out a comprehensive economic platform for his administration that addresses job creation, attacking inflation, etc.

The Presumptive Nominee said he needs to take a week off next month because he’s presumably tired from his “presidential” activities. Well, all I can say is : “If this is too much for you, physically and emotionally, you are less than equipped to assume the office of the Presideent of the United States, which will be 100 or 1000 times more taxing and engaging on daily basis… I guess it’s not easy for someone who’s not used to having to work hard to grasp all this. Mr. Bush learned it the hard way … and wound up failing big time!

What a GRAND SLAM trip! Funny how the McCain camp pushed this trip then….WHOOPS. Obama handled this trip with grace and honor. Restoring our standing in the world will FINALLY happen. We cannot do what needs to be done ALONE on this planet. THANK GOD this “cowboy diplomacy” approach is almost OVER. By the way, not visiting these particular troops in an effort not to politicize such a visit is ALL YOU GOT as a way to criticize? The reason he did not visit the hospital, was because he could not have the press there, he had to look good in the news, Boy!!! did he play the reporters. Shame on all of you. I am puzzled by Obama’s uneasiness to talk about his family such as his father, mother and other siblings, including half-brothers and half-sisters. The only family members he mentioned was his maternal grandmother and the military service of one of his uncles on his mother’s side.
Is he ashamed or embarassed about his extended family? If there is no scandal, why is he not proud to speak about his other siblings? If Obama wants to be the next U.S. President, don’t voters have a right to know his extended family members and their activities? Mmmmm, I wonder!

Obama himself admits that he cancelled the visit because he was told he couldn’t bring campaign staff.
As a Brit, I was pleased to see our news covered with Obama’s trip and progress in Europe including our country. Rather than criticizing him, you should be proud of him as he carried himself very well and was a pleasure to watch. We believe he will make an excellent President, and help heal your relationship with a lot of countries. Obama is the right man for the job, not Mc Cain. Mc Cain is too violent, it’s time to stop these silly and unnecessary wars!

I applaud Obama on a job well done home and abroad. A much needed trip to the middle east to extend concern and express such concerns to our allies that we as a people worldwide needs to unite on one accord to warrant a better tommorrow for all. Together through negotiating and effective protocols from all, including concrete and substantial focusing points our world could result in a more effective society for all with no respecter of peson, nationality or religion. We the people, needs to turn from our evil ways and selfish ennuendoes, that our land may be healed.

I don’t know how Obama can look at any serviceman and servicewoman in the eye and want to meet and greet them. His has shown his total lack of confidence in our military. He advocates Retreat instead of Victory just to appease the liberal voters and hopefully bring him to the Oval Office.
How can a man without any military experience have the gall to predict withdrawal of troops regardless that the enemy is on the run…A Commander in Chief of our military needs to lead America’s mighty military to victory not retreat for his own political gains. Look what Jimmy Carter did to our military, he was child’s play compared to what this guy is going to do!!!
Being a combat veteran I am disgusted by this man for being so non-supportive of our troops. Hopefully our troops will see through this slick talker and vote McCain. John McCain, an American hero and patriot, who has proven his love for this country over and over.

George Bush has been in office for almost 8 years. The first six the economy was fine, and then in 2006 the American public voted in a Democratic Congress.
A little over one year ago:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%.
Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006:
1) Consumer confidence plummeted;
2) Gasoline soared to over $4 a gallon;
3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase)
Wake UP SHEEP! Vote for anyone but a Democrat!

Our ecomony went downhill as soon as the democrats took over congress. The president does not have control of the ecomony. The congress does. Just like they are blocking drilling. Did you go to school? Maybe you would like it back when Carter was president. Oh yea, Just what we need another Carter/Obama term.
If you like Obama, the trip was a sucess if not then it was not. We are so divided in the US and who ever wins, we all need to get behind him and support him. Either man will be the face of the US to the world and we have to respect that person.
But get ready for Obama. I just dont think there are enough conservatives to get this done. if it was Mit, i think he would have beaten Obama. McCains age is not good with all these younger people out there. Historically they dont vote but look what happened during primaries. It will be worse in November. Obama in a landslide as far as popular and electoral votes.
I smell a lot of jealousy from Republicans on this board. You can bash Obama all you want, but you might as well get used to him, you’re going to be seeing a lot of him over the next eight years. And, I hope you have the graciousness in the end to see what good he brought.
Those of us in uniform or who have worn the uniform should be incensed at Mr. Obama’s slight toward our wounded in Germany. I don’t really care what reasons he is giving for not visiting those brave men and women in the hospital in Germany - it doesn’t matter.
The simple fact is it seems once again he has done what is politically expedient for his campaign (riding on the wave of his popularity with the Europeans) rather than do what most of us would consider right.
Is this a glimpse of how the US military will be treated under the Obama Presidency? My guess is yes - and we had better get ready for more of the same.

I know much more about Obama’s family than I do about McCain’s. What you are requesting may be reasonable, just make sure that you are requesting the same information from the other candidates.

In his speach to the people in Berlin he gave them all the credit for the walls coming down and their fight with Russia, he ommited the U.S. and their part of delivering food and resources so those very people did not starve, he omitted it was this country that went to war to free france from Hitler at our expene, he left out all the great things we have done over the ages to fight for all these countries at our expence, both dollat and personal. But he did state how we need to bridge our relationship with these same nations and we are not fullfilling our potential and we are embarassing because we do not speck their language yet he does not either, and he has not a problem in the world making the United States look like a bully and out for war. While we are fighting terror Indea and Turkey were bombed by the very people we want to free the world from. Niether of these countries have fought the terrorist and yet they were bombed. So we pull out and do what? Wait for them to hit us again as they build in power? Obama can not admit the serge worked nor will he admit the troops weree and are slowly leaving Iraq. They have been sine the surge brought Iraq to a freer nation. He also does not tell how even the people in Iraq are begining to fight the terror cells. Give a nation a feel of freedom and they will fight. Just as we will fight to protect our nation. You better watch your own back door as it seems terrorist at still bombing, just not here.

I’m an active duty memberin the military stationed in Germany and i will be voting for obama. Don’t let the polls fool you there are alot of military members who are moving towards that way.

I am quite sure that the majority of armed forces families are welcoming that Obama wants bring their loved ones home sooner rather than later. What is McCain doing to ease your worries for America?????? Not a thing he is too busy whinging about Obama and that he didn’t visit troops in Germany. I am quite sure that they understood. Your Affiliates and the BBC are now reporting that the 200,000 so-called turn out for Obama was a hype and that he took advantage of the situation knowing about the POP CONCERT that had been planned ahead of time and that OBAMA showed up and reigned on their parade!
Common sense would dictate that 200,000 citizens in Berlin, Germany would not show up and rally for an unknown person from another country!!!!

I’m an independent voter. What I’ve seen with the (CNN) media hype and all the shannagins, financial scandals & with the media bias, Barrack’s self proclaimed “man of the world” speech, etc. I’m sick of it already, and many of my colleagues are fed up with it also. CNN didn’t even bother to post the fact that to draw all those Germans to his speach-he had to attract them first by sponsoring the free rock concerts; with two popular German bands, just prior to the speech. I guess Oprah’s money buys a lot these days. Oh-and Oprah’s “victory” dance, when Hillary suspended her campaign? Don’t think they will be having coffee anytime soon.
Barrack’s dilutions; and I suspect all of his supporters– are not in touch with reality. They need medication. Getting Barrack in office will take this great nation and further rip it apart. To the point, I suspect, where it will be one step shy of an anarchy by 2012. The conservatives will want to secede from the leftists for good; similar to the post Carter debacle/ incoming Reagan situation we saw in 1980. If I were anyone currently in the military, with the threat of Barrack taking office I’d get out right now, including General Petraeus. I was active duty under Carter and I remember how BAD things were for us. Things were terrible beyond belief–Period. Carter treated us like dirt on the floor. It wasn’t until Reagan came in; where Ronnie brought back pride among the ranks.
Obama doesn’t care about the American people, he just cares about himself and the power he wants to attain. He will cozy up to anyone even our enemies to get want he wants. If I felt he really cared about me as an American citizen pursuing the American dream I would vote for him. I don’t have medical insurance, but I sure don’t want the government providing it for me. The government already controls us enough. For everything they give us, we give up more individual rights and privacy. It’s always in the name of protecting us. Let the rich keep what they have, they’ve earned it. Let’s take it out of the BIG government. DOWNSIZE like the rest of us!!!
Obama did an excellent job visiting the Middle East and his “haters” are very upset that he did not stumble for they actually began to believe their own rhetoric that he was incompetent and illiterate.
