Obama At Yad Vashem

Candidate Barack Obama visited the Yad Vashem overlooking Jerusalem today, after meeting with Defense Minister Barak and Benjamin Netanyahu. Obama got a brief tour of the Holocaust museum, which displayed some photos of Buchenwald concentration camp - the camp that Obama’s uncle helped liberate in World War II.

At the museum’s Hall of Remembrances, Obama, wearing a white yarmulke, laid a wreath at a the site where some of the ashes from concentration camps were buried, and “enhanced” the eternal flame burning next to the memorial site.

Following the ceremony, Obama signed the museum’s guest book. “At a time of great peril and promise, war and strife we are blessed to have such a powerful reminder of mans potential for great evil but also our capacity to rise from tragedy and remake our world,” he wrote. “Let our children come here and know this history so they can add their voices to proclaim ‘never again.’ And may we remember those who perished, not only as victims but also as individuals who hoped and loved and dreamed like us and who have become symbols of the human spirit.”

According to the pool report, following a brief statement to cameras, an Israeli journalist shouted out a question about Iran, but Obama did not answer, telling the reporter it was “inappropriate” to have a news conference.

Obama will visit Palestinian territory later this afternoon.

Why does the news media complain that Bush halts and stutters when answering questions and think Barak is just being thoughtful??? He is talking now, and I cannot tell you what he is talking about. He talks in circles.

As a jew it makes me sick to think that Obama went to this very very important site. Only if he disavows Wright and Farrakhan should he be able go there.

Instead he makes this a political thing. sickening.

Rather McCain here looking old than Obama over there saying, ” as commander in Chief I hae, uhhhh I mean if elected…” and his camp calling him the president. I wonder if we will have an election or if the DNC will just claim the win and put him in. Seems they think he is already. Now that says alot about all of them. He thinks of himself as the comander in chief already. The nads on the man.

Obama makes me feel re-newed pride in being an American. I want the world to respect us once again. Obama will be a great leader! He’s a brillant, decent and good man. I pray everyday for him and his family. Obama’s vision of the world and for us as a Nation, is the world I want for my grandchildren. A place where we respect our differences and each other. You can’t trump hope and inspiration. The last time I felt this way was with JFK.

It appears again that we need to remind Obama that he’s in the middle east to LEARN something about what’s going on over there, not to make empty commitments.

Obama appeared to be very uncomfortable and even angry while giving a speach from mostly his index cards in Israel , at one point he remarked at someone asking a question “why don’t you tell your buddy to speak up”, his body language told a whole other story, another person tried to get him to hold up a t-shirt with I love somthing? on it , he looked as if he was asked to hold up a bomb, little revealing momments can say a great deal , he delivered a speach written by his advisor’s, he in his own words was unable to follow a two part question , then again appeared to be uncomfortable, but for those who will glorify him anyway he did tell Jewish leaders what they wanted to hear , it’s his actions they should worry about.

Obama in the middle east, let me guess, it’s his 1st trip and he gives credit to the Sunni’s for the reduction in violence not the surge of the military. This guy doesn’t have a clue!! This is suppose to be the man that commands the Nations military?? He can’t even commend them and recognize thier work. Instead, he credits everything and everyone else for the reduction in violence. Hint, if somebody busts you in the mouth, you may not be talking as loudly afterwards. Harry Truman once said “if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.” Well, seems like Obama is turning the kitchen into a Cafe’ and we all know how much we all love Starbucks???

What? “Let our children come here and know this history so they can add their voices to proclaim ‘never again.’ Are you kidding me? Does this dip stick realize what has happened in numerous places around the world since then? Ethnic cleansing - same thing. Some speach writer wrote that, and he probably wrote it on his shirt cuff so he could remember it since he hasn’t an original thought. Putz.

This aahhh, guy eeehhhrrr, is getting on my nerves. The media has done him harm by overexposing him. I used to listen to him when he first started his primary, but now I know he is just another politician and finding out he can’t even speak well. When I hear him on TV now, even when in the other room, it’s like fingernails on a chalkboard. I want to cringe till it’s over. Reminds me off Brittany Spears mania. Perhaps, his shine is rubbing off.

Did Obama’s uncle really help free prisoners at Buchenwald, or is he hoping that no-one checks his story again? Did he refuse to answer the question on Iran because he couldn’t remember what his opinion is today? I hang on his very word as his every word hangs him out to dry….

Everyone said the Obama trip would fail and that he would look bad due to his lack of foreign experience - you Bozos got it wrong - again.

Not only has his trip to date been quite successful, but he has been met by the world with open arms as well as large crowds waiting to meet him. In fact, I understand that Germany has close to 1 million people coming out to hear him speak. I do not remeber any crowds like that for McCain.

The world has it right, again, as they did when they opposed our invasion of Iraq - They are tired of the “cowboy’ mentality of the Bush/McCain folks and are ready for an American leader who wants to heal the divide and make America great once more.

Bravo, Obama!

Dare you to post this!

It’s amazing that a paper with such a great Iraq bureau as the Washington Post could have such a misguided editorial board. Today it publishes an editorial on Maliki’s call for a 2010 withdrawal that’s either totally ignorant or an outright lie, all in the service of punishing Barack Obama and Nouri al-Maliki for forging a U.S.-Iraq consensus on extrication. Much as with the McCain campaign, in order for the Post’s editorial to get off the ground, it needs to pretend that Maliki doesn’t actually believe a withdrawal is necessary.

Barbara-I agree 100%. As a Roman Catholic I feel the same way. I was wondering how The Jewish community really felt about this. I cannot believe Israel would feel safe at all with Obama in charge of it’s closest ally. Thanks you for answering my question. Best regards.

You are right Esigondi. It happened in Cambodia after we pulled out of the Viet Nam war clumsily and without giving thought to what would be left behind us: chaos.

Wow! I am impressed that we can see through the phony Obama. The last couple of days Obama has been glorified like the second coming on all news station. I am sooo afraid for America - we have McCain and Obama - is this the best in leadership we have to offer?

An old republican (maverick) that will make Bush tax cuts permanent and Obama - an unexperienced 140 days old senator who got in senate by manipulation (was not rightly elected), a dirty Chicago politician, with very very questionable relations and friends, a racist with an angry wife, a fake with an ego the size of the sun and soo ambitious he would do anything for the title of POTUS.

Comment by Sylvia Johnsen

Obama continues the learning trip: Visiting the Jerusalem Holocaust Museum, he got to see the memorial of Buchenwald were Obama’s great-uncle participated in the liberation during World War II. Now finally Obama knows: 1) Auschwitch was liberated by Russians, 2) Buchenwald by Americans and it was not his grandfather or uncle who was were among those early troops. It was the great-uncle of Obama.

Nice memory lane this for a PUMA like myself. Obama gaffes are fewer and far between since the campaign closed all debates and decided to refuse unrehersed questions. They are trying to buy the election outright. Voters should say not, for the sake of democracy and truth.

Obama reminds me of when the press fawned over Jimmy Carter back in 1976. “He was so fresh. He was so new.” He had no “Washington taint” and would turn the country around. Then I recall interest rates skyrocketing, the hostages being taken in Iran and all of the Europeans laughing at him for being so weak. As someone who lives in Illinois, I am still trying to figure out what Obama has done for me. The State of Illinois is useless and from what I see, he goes along with the Daley machine. (We now have the highest taxes in the U.S.) He knows how to appeal to the goodness of America, but honestly, it takes more than good wishes and a good sound bite to be an effective leader. Think Jimmy Carter!

@Barbara
Even if you do not favor Obama as a candidate, your comments shock me. I may not agree with McCain’s policies or his political strategy but I would not denigrate his character the way you did Obama. What has our country come to that people believe an individual running for president is not worthy of going to a memorial of a horrible part of the world’s history.

@Steven
As a Jew, I want to tell you Barbara’s words do not speak for all people in the faith.

Get over it folks — Obama is a fine man who is reprenting our nation well on the world stage while McCain’s frustration and gaffes make him look and sound anything but presidential. After seven long years of being embarrassed by President Bush, how refreshing it is to see our next president interact with world leaders with such intelligence, grace, and dignity. And their response to Senator Obama has been no less remarkable. The inauguration of President Obama cannot come soon enough for me.

Reading these comments and after watching the Fox & Friends showthis morning, there is little wonder that there are so many miss=informen people out there concerning Mr. Obama. The only one I feel has any since of consern for the truth is Brian. However, the other two Hosts on this show spin the truth so fast that I can realy understand why that is. If you are an on the fince racist anyway who only watch Fox News, you will never hear enough of the real truth to ever make a fair evualuation of what the real facts are.
So, I don’t blame you if you dont like Mr. Obama I just say that you are miss=informed.

to time for change–yes, he appeals to foreigners who dislike America–because we are such a free nation–I just wish he would stop making derogatory remarks about this beautiful country which he aspires to lead! I think this trip is just the opposite of successful. He has made many gaffes and cannot speak well without a prompter and canned questions. He even accused Bush of making the troops watch Fox News– on camera. in my mind it was traitorous–even if you dislike GWB, he is still our President.

Excuse me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I must have missed the elections. When did we vote to have Obama become President of the United States? I think my constitutional rights as an American citizen have been violated. Am I living in a dictatorship? I guess, like Rip Van Winkle, I went to sleep for a long time; and when I woke up, the world as I had know it was changed. I had been living in a democracy, now it has been taken over and become known as the United States of Obama. I am very, very, very concerned!
