McCain Camp Teases the Media
WILKES-BARRE, Penn.–
The McCain campaign denies being jealous of the media attention that Senator Obama’s overseas trip is receiving. But, this evening they took a light hearted jab at the media frenzy by handing out a small token to their traveling press corps.
After boarding the bus from the airport here, the McCain campaign handed out to the press corps a fake credential with a picture of the Statue of Liberty surrounded by fireworks on the front identifying the McCain Press Corps as the “JV Squad” and underneath “Left Behind to Report in America.”
On the back is a Frenchman in a beret with a Borat-like moustache pouring a glass of wine superimposed in front of the Eiffel Tower. The same caption from the front is loosely translated into French: “L’equipe junior” “Laisse’ en arriere pour faire un rapport en Amerique.”
The fake press pass comes on the same day the McCain campaign put out a web video, “Obama Love” which teases the media using journalists’ own words heaping praise on the Democratic nominee-in-waiting. The pass and the ad leave no question that the McCain campaign believes there is a media bias towards his opponent, especially with the amount of coverage Obama is getting while in Afghanistan, the Middle East, and Europe.

Sorry FOX, you lose.
Obama is getting the press because he is an interesting candidate. John McCain, while an honorable fellow, is neither interesting or likely to win. American’s love affair with the underdog ended.

This Euro adulation can only raise contempt for Obama among voters in America. The Obama camp stumbles again.
Apparently McCain likes how the French make “Freedom Reactors” so maybe the right will have to lose the French as their favorite foreigners to deride along with this trite pepi-lepu cliché of a stereotype. It appears to be an attempt by the McCain camp to be cool and funny….pssssstt….hey guys, um, your REPUBLICANS, cool and funny? yeah not your strong suit, stick to the fear-mongering and liberty crushing. This whole thing shows them as out of touch with the culture and well…just plain unfunny.
It is different than McCain. McCain as even Fox has reported has a fake smile. McCain yells at reporters when they question a statement he has made. Going to a McCain rally to most Americans is like when you were a kid. Your parents made you get in the car one Sunday each month to go see your grandfather. It was never fun. He alway smelled like old people and you had to be quiet when he fell asleep in the afternoon watching Gun Smoke>
McCain reminds most voters of Ronald Reagan at the end of his second term (without the corisima, humor, new ideas, or likability). Just old and tired.
come on 8 months ago most of the GOP supported someone else other than McCain. Like is mother said in an interview. “republicans will vote for John. They will hold there nose doing it, but they will vote for him”. Even his mother sees the truth.
And for Obama, 8 months Dems and none registered supported Clinton or Oboma. They new it was going to be one of the two. Oh and Obama doesn’t smell old.
And for the wives M Obama, is a mother of 2 young girls who has no real vices other than she works and she grew up poor and worked her way from the bottom to where she is at. On the other hand McCain’s wife is sort of creepy. She grew up never knowing what it was like to be hungry, protected by daddy and given anything she wants. Then chasing after a married man almost twice her age. She was so mentally unstable that she had to live across the street from her parents when John was in Washington, then while her kds were still young she became a drug addict and only kicked the problem when she was dimed out to the DEA by an employ of hers who ’s name she used illegally to get prescriptions written in to support her drug habit.
John McCain a man who claims he didn’t know his wife was a drug addict. Married to a very weak woman who lets her husband call her names like C*t to her face when she joked with him about losing his hair in 2000.
OH and this is all part of AZ public record. The employee who reported McCain’s wife to the DEA was fired by her right after he reported her. He then sued her for wrongful termination. Well McCain personally spoke to the DEA head in Washington to put stop the prosecution of his wife then used his political connections to in attempts of getting the former employee arrested for Blackmail. Charges were dropped because he had reported her to the DEA before he was fired and didn’t make threats because by then it was public knowledge. Well his wife got off scott free with all charges dropped, but the doctor who worked for her charity who wrote the prescriptions lost his license to practice medical. Oh she admitted to the DEA that she was stealing some of the drugs from her medical charity what was to go to needy kids and the poor.
Of course, McCain denies being envious, but the facts are there. This is no fault of the media. They are simply following the wishes of the people.Follow the winner; follow the news;follow interest; follow what’s good and right and that’s Obama. Instead of admitting he is wrong, by endorsing and supporting an unnecessary war, McCain is boasting about Surge. Why did we need the surge anyhow? It is because he had endorsed a useless war. So when he talks about win and success… Win what? Win who? Which success? Even Gen. Petraus some months ago distinctly stated and reiterated that the win and success cannot be measured and predicted It goes from day to day,and situation to situation, ongoing… Yet MCcain keeps contradicting his own people.
Instead of blaming the media , McCain needs to work on his strategies, his appeal, his policies and yes even his emotions.
Who is running the PR design side of things for McCain? Are they insane!
The postcard is childish, and not funny at all.
But that video… the video looping is insulting to the watcher… (we get the drift already), the choice of soundtrack is actually complimentary, I’m flabbergasted that the McCain camp thinks this video is a good idea.
Overall, it makes Obama sound pretty special and quite good really… nice work guys, can’t see that type of strategy winning the white house.
The press corp is doing the American people a terrible injustice. We need to hear the news regarding both presidential candidates not just one. Please give us fair and honest reporting on both of them.
gee, media bias, so who did’nt figure that out 9 months ago…. Fortunately, the more air time he gets, the more insanely ignorant his statements are. Now he is overseas practically degrading our troops, and i am getting quite a bit resentful. This gun toting, bible carrying, semi- liberal has had enough. How many pictures with the TROOPS in places that matter did you see. This trip was as choreographed as the Las Vegas showgirls, and with just as much money. A presumptive nominee has no business campaigning on foreign soil, unless he thinks their vote is what really counts. I really wasn’t bitter until this last bombardment on my sensibility, but now I guess he was right. You got no shot at me voting for a junior senator who has so much to learn about who he needs to be worrying about.
And Fox Political reports are major giulty. TODAY, count 5 articles for the messiaobama and 2 for Senator McCain. Don’t think people don’t see this garbage for what it is. And will surprise you at the election. People lie to pollsters. It is what it is.
The TRUE smell of jeously in the AIR! Come on! What did he really expect??
How sad. He continually suggested Obama take another trip to Iraq. Afterall, he’d only been there once. per McCain. Obama does it. Now, he receives a backlash from McCain and his campaign.
Gosh! Obama can’t win for losing.
McCain needs to make up his mind about what he wants Obama to do. Stick with it and shut FACE!!!
Period.
It’s not that McCain has nothing to say, but the bankruptcy of Right-Wing ideas is suddenly, after 30 years being realized by anyone with a brain.
Where’s the Fox report on the CBS interview? When McCain got his recent Iraqi history wrong, CBS replaced McCain’s answer to a question with his answer to another question.
John McCain to Katie Couric, “Because of the surge we were able to go out and protect that sheik and others. And it began the Anbar awakening. I mean, that’s just a matter of history.”
Actual history: The Awakening began in Anbar Province more than a year before the surge and took off in the summer and fall of 2006 in Ramadi and elsewhere, long before extra U.S. forces started flowing into Iraq in February and March of 2007 for the six month surge.
Why is the Congress leaving on vacation for a month as of 8-1-08 before voting on the
off shore drilling. We need to get these parsites out of office. At least John McCain
is trying to do something to help the gas prices. Obama is such a phony
Teases? Is that what you call bawling like a baby and acting like Hillary? Your should be repulsed that McSame is acting like a Clinton.
Good for McCain! I love his sense of humor and it is right on target. The press - and the Obama supporters - are in love with a snake oil salesman. Obama is the most dangerous liar I have seen in a long time - mainly because he sees nothing wrong in saying whatever it takes to be President. “The truth is not in him.”
I don’t know why these Obama supporters are so naive about this inexperienced first term senator,
Every terriorist leader in the world are hoping for an obama administration, this is something they will not be allowed to have, I’m not saying that every obama supporter is a terrorist, but every terrorist is an obama supporter, now what does that tell the American people?, If anyone had an ounce of good sense they would understand what our enemy understands, that if they could by anyway possible continue to funnel money into the obama campaign an do everything possible to get him elected that would buy them enough time to get back on task at establishing the tactics to try and ruin this contry and the freedoms we are fighting them for now and we are pushing them back on their heels and will eventually take them and their terrorist way of life out of existance. If we do not get this accomplished in Iraq and Iran, and the terrorist find a weak link like they see in the obama campaign, they will do what terroist do and break our security, when they do all the rest of our rights like health care, freedom of speech and religion will be lost as well, wake up America vote a safe vote, vote Mccain
It is time for us conservatives to part with the elite. We have many intelligent young minds that could lead this country in the right direction. Instead we chose people like Bush and Mccain. It’s amazing that C students or worse are good enough for a party that once stood for excellence. Mccaine graduated 894 out of 899 from the academy and then proceeded to crash 5 planes in his short career (In short, he shouldn’t have been flying at all). I guess it’s good to be the Admiral’s son. We need our best and brightest, we need to set a good example for the young people. We spend so much attacking the other side we forget to critique our candidates. I don’t agree with everything the Liberal’s are pushing. I don’t agree with must of the ideas Mccain is pushing. I will not vote for Mccain because his ideas are the same as Bush, basically he has no ideas of his own. I am going to wait for the conservative to part with the idea of the Bush ear before I vote republican again.
Yeah right, Obama is the media darling. I’m sure he just loved all the non-stop coverage of the Wright controversy. The Repubs sure do miss those days indeed. Here’s a suggestion Mr. McAncient, do or say something newsworthy (besides repeatedly bashing your opponent, or uttering a sentence without the word “war” in it), and maybe the media will cover you too.

Media Jealousy??? Well when THE LEFT (read Dumokrats) have “media jealousy” they try to pass a law that requires Republicans to pay for their failing radio stations. I guess that wouldn’t be considered jealousy. More like Stalinism. Happy Kampeigning!
The media has been so unfair. I want to know what McCain is doing, but rarely get to see it as the media doesnt give him much coverage. You guys have to realise that a lot of people just dont like Obama and are SOOOOOO sick of seeing him. We think McCain will win (and have every right too as he is amost equal to Obama in the polls) so we want to see what our candidate is up to in this election campagne.
Luckily the tour de france is on and my husband is making us watch that, so i dont have to watch as much news at the moment. And then the Olympics will be on, so another chance to get away from the brainwashing obama media
Nanny Nanny Na Na you dont have no Press or Media coverage! McCain SHUT UP already you wanted him to GO you posted it all over your Web Site with a Clock and COUNT DOWN! Obama went and Now you are still “CRYING” about it. SHUT your PIE HOLE already!! GET OVER IT… STICK to the ISSUES at hand you no real stuff like the ECONOMY! oh yeah but you dont even UNDERSTAND the issues with Americans and the ECONOMY. well okay “tell ya’ what”, just Talk about WAR that is the only thing i think you GET you no WAR how to keep it going, how to NOT bring the Troops home, how to tax America for BILLIONS on how to continue to pay for it and how “were never going to capture” Osama Bin Laden… Just dont smile or crack a joke when you talk about it with the Media on tv and they will follow you around at Least Fox will!!.
Thanks!
OBama is very different from the presidential candidates we have had in the past. That is why the media is drawn to him. And John McCain, well uh, Hmmmmm!! He is from the past….
Even Fox News is drawn to Obama.. They have more negative things to say about Obama than they do positive things about McCain.
I wish the media will go back and replay all the arrogant things he does (brushing Hillary off his shoulders) and says (mocking people just like Rev Wright did). They only show him smiling in pictures and never every portray him in a negative light. The papers in england are running reports as if Obama is def. the next president, and never say that McCain is still very close to Obama in the polls. For the first time in many years Democrats are voting for a republican becuase they just dont agree with Obama. Thats only going to be made worse the more he’s forced upon us on TV.
Obama is making himself out of touch with average americans now with his arrogant ambitions of rock stardem.
Perhaps its not the media bias….
Perhaps John McCain just isn’t as newsworthy as Obama is right now.
Lets face it…hes everything that doesn’t make a good news story…hes old, hes status quo, hes monotone, hes predictable / flip floping. Its the same story every four years.
Stop complaining about the media…right now you aren’t worth the coverage.
Imagine the impression the Obama jet makes on all those who get a chance to see it fly into their Country: A gigantic 757 from the USA - stripped of the flag of the USA - barreling down the runway with the Obama ‘O’ logo painted on its tail, and a campaign slogan on its fuselage.
The foreign public can see the identity difficulties, even if Obama and his follows cannot.
One of the first memorable attempts at symbolic identification came with Obama Seal. You remember it, I’m sure: the quasi-presidential blue seal that swapped-out the American Eagle with a chicken. Even the Latin motto was modified to suit the campaign.
Then there is the Obama Eagle, available to anyone who can’t bring themselves to purchase a representation of a true presidential eagle.
Pins, no-Pins, Flag, no-Flag …
Obama can’t seem to identify with anyone except himself. He wants to sound sincere and knowledgeable (and he has over 300 people trying to help him do so). He is desparately trying to appear Presidential, to the point of taking his campaign outside the boundaries of our Country.
But vanity, arrogance and a myopic self-aggrandizing nature are too much to hide — even from those who must now entertain an uninvited guest.
I am going to vote McCain in 08
go puma’s
It is truly amazing how liberals show a serious ingoranance of history and economics. If Obama is voted in as president they will get what they deserve. The rest of us will just have to pray and pick up the pieces after his party sends our country into ruins. We will work to avoid this ,but we will have to prepare for the worse.
Obama “fans” are deluded. The media is not following Obama because he’s interesting; they are following him to convince Americans to vote for Obama and will continue to cover Obama until they’ve reached their goal. I hope that Americans are smarter than this.
Obama has accomplished little in his life for others; he has worked only to elevate himself. His speeches are filled with nonsense, and without a telemprompter Obama can hardly string 2 thoughts together coherently.
Well Mccain and The senior George Bush did get coverage in that Golf Cart at the Senior Citizen Home. Thats good press to capture the senior vote. Who was the GENIUS, that thought of that PHOTO OP - but to the Genius - Thank You!
I guess the media doesn’t have a sense of humor. Sen. McCain is taking what the media is giving him and using it-way to go. To those who say it is dirty politics-Is it true? Don’t know about you but I don’t base qualifications for president on if I get a tingle running down my leg. Not exactly a presidential qualifier.
Louise,
I want to know what McSame is doing as well, except he doesn’t have a message. Once he and his campaign staff can figure out what he stands for, he’ll get the attention he deserves.
For your sake, hopefully his message will appear before November.
Obama is the opposite of Bush, that’s why he’s so popular. The last thing the world needs from the U.S. is another old, conservative white guy. McSame is boring and is the worst public speaker since Perot’s running mate. The right-wing Jesus freaks can’t even get McSame elected.
Obama 08 (It’s destiny!)
First I would like to comment on a comment McCain made about how he would “not allow a second genocide” I’m sure that the “second genocide” has already happened. There have been genocides all in history. I don’t mean any disrespect but the Jews were not the only people to murdered in the name of genocide. I can think of over 20 genocides and some are going on right now. So why should we elect a president that not only knows their history but their current events? Shame on you McCain and shame on you Fox News for reporting this “news”.
I know who John McCain is. I still don’t know who Obama is and this trip makes him even more confusing to not only Americans but the entire world. Where does he stand on anything? Like on his website, select the group you most identify with and “click”, you get the version of him you selected. If he is elected, America will have declared to the world that they have lost their way.
THE MEDIA, CONTROL AND BALANCE
By Ronn Torossian, President & CEO, 5W Public Relations
Working in public relations and, in particular, crisis management, there is a tremendous balancing act between projecting clients’ images and agendas and, at the same time, protecting them – essentially keeping the press at bay. Often, as it is, the purpose of PR and wrangling with the media is to encourage positive coverage for whomever or whatever you represent. If the story is not going to be positive, then it is best just not to do it. The job of a good PR person is to protect his clients and make them look their best in the media and in public.
It is for this reason that I found myself agreeing with the recent Obama campaign’s decision to ban a reporter deemed to be from a publication believed to be less than objective for Obama from his press plane on this week’s International “foreign policy” trip. Let’s face it, there’s no shortage of reporters wanting to travel with the presidential candidate – as the campaign received 200 requests for press seats on the plane, of which they were able to grant only 40 – so why grant space to a publication who has previously hurt the campaign, and who may skew coverage in place of someone less inclined to do so? It is hard to imagine the New York Yankees allowing a Boston-minded sports reporter unfettered locker room access.
Candidates and clients as well, offer access to media with the hope, and perhaps even the expectation that media will present a positive narrative. Yet, anyone worth his salt in public relations knows all to well that media access by its very nature presents the possibility of either a good or a bad story. So, if there is choice, why ante-up with media deemed to be biased against your position when there are so many other journalists one can gamble on to better the odds?
Equally as reporters at the top tier publications want exclusive information, unique off the record comments and the like, so too must there be a very fair and real expectation for them that if they present a negative or seemingly prejudicial story then the possibility of being excluded is very real – especially when there is a major issue at stake, like a presidential election, and especially where the candidate has the luxury of choosing any media he prefers. Indeed, he cannot avoid bad coverage from someone inclined to do so, but he does not need to offer a seat on his plane.
The banned reporter in question, Ryan Lizza of New Yorker Magazine learned that Obama had earned a reputation of “‘you’re not going to punk me, you’re not going to roll me over, you’re not going to jam me.’”[i][i] This is not an issue of Freedom of the Press; Lizza can write what he wants, but Obama is not obligated to open his arms in welcome. Outrage by media over such policies is also hypocritical, as stated in The Huffington Post, “Wow. So it’s gonna be like that, is it? Retribution for unfavorable coverage is a chilling thing to contemplate.” No, it is not chilling – it is valid. As journalists are arbiters of fate, they should expect that those on the receiving end of their opinions or ideals be cautious.
I find myself agreeing with this statement from Anita Dunn, an Obama advisor, “The press corps wouldn’t be doing its job it if weren’t demanding more access than we’re willing to give,” Ms. Dunn said. “We wouldn’t be doing our job if we didn’t occasionally irritate the press.”[ii][ii]
I understand those of us in the public relations business who feels that media must not be allowed to simply run rampant over clients - especially those who garner tremendous media attention. It does not mean that we should not cooperate with media – We do, but while we would love totally positive coverage, we generally seek what we can expect to be fair and objective.

Didn’t the same thing happen to Hillary? The media loves him because he is the first Black presidential candidate, not because he has anything interesting to say to show. Think about it - would you hire a roukee to manage your financial portfolio? Who says race does not play a role. Of course, the (street) smart ones use it to their advantage.
Lori Hornback :
Don’t assume the entire world is as mentally slow as you, and some others who are not capable of making your own decision or using what little mental capacity you may have. Actually the media is giving McCain a break, for if you want to know the truth read the following:
10 things you should know about John McCain (but probably don’t):
John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has “evolved,” yet he’s continued to oppose key civil rights laws.1
According to Bloomberg News, McCain is more hawkish than Bush on Iraq, Russia and China. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain “will make Cheney look like Gandhi.”2
His reputation is built on his opposition to torture, but McCain voted against a bill to ban waterboarding, and then applauded President Bush for vetoing that ban.3
McCain opposes a woman’s right to choose. He said, “I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned.”4
The Children’s Defense Fund rated McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children. He voted against the children’s health care bill last year, then defended Bush’s veto of the bill.5
He’s one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires. The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a “second job” and skip their vacations.6
Many of McCain’s fellow Republican senators say he’s too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: “The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He’s erratic. He’s hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me.”7
McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates.8
McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his “spiritual guide,” Rod Parsley, believes America’s founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a “false religion.” McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God’s punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church “the Antichrist” and a “false cult.”9
He positions himself as pro-environment, but he scored a 0—yes, zero—from the League of Conservation Voters last year.10
Here’s an idea McCain have a plan have a direction. John is the only sensible republican on this sight. I wanted McCain to win the nomination in 2000 but since then he has sold his soul to the cult of the religious right to become the nominee and sounds more and more like and empty suit. Instead of complaining about media coverage how about giving a detailed plan on how your going build an infrastructure for nuclear power, or wind power, or solar power. Instead of attacking Obama how about giviing us a detailed plan on how you will decrease our debt. Instead of throwing out this red herring of drilling on protected land how about a detailed plan on how your going to turn the economy around. Anyone…anyone…anyone.
I am disgusted by the Obama suppoters who do not hesitate to demonstrate their ageism. I guess you cannot find anything substantively good about Obama so you attack McCain for something no-one can control - his age? You too will get old, if you are lucky punk! (Andrew Smitt).
I am voting for McCain in 08!
Corlos…bingo. And it’s going to be a huge problem. The hard-core liberals are so fed up with Bush that they will settle for anything! Obama is not qualified to run the most powerful country in the world. Period. The shambles America will be in if he’s elected president are scary to imagine. Rally for McCain08!!!
You gotta admit, this is funny. lol and I’m a Democrat.
I don’t mind the jab at the media, but the ad, that’s a stretch.
It’s nice to see McCain showing his sense of humor. He’s a real person and tells it like it is. Obama is such a fake and it’s too bad people don’t see it. I just don’t want to hear anybody that votes for him complaining when the country goes amuck if he wins the election. Instead of looking presidential in the Middle East he looks like a little boy in men’s clothing. He looks so out of place and you can tell in his eyes it’s all a lie, a big political stunt. NOBAMA!!!!
McIDon’tKnowWhatI’mDoing and his campaign staffers clearly have no MOJO… America is about to rock and roll again!!! GObama!!! What’s great about Obama is that he’s going to pick a republican VP to show that he is sincere about uniting this great country! GOAmerica!!!
I believe tha the press, The NYT and CNN in particular are biased towards the Democrats in general. I apologize to Mr. Morrow on behalf of the American press for what they have become. i am sure this is not what he invisioned.
Joe
Oh my God, the Obama bloggers have even invaded Fox news! You guys must be getting really desperate. Wait until November, then you’ll know desperate.
Obhamas is a Mack Daddy, jiving the shallow since OBVIOUSLY their ideas DO NOT WORK!!! I.E. all big cities high poverty, high crime, poor education, high unemployment, run by Demos for DECADES!!!!! COME ON, what works about socialism, create jobs, economy, self-reliance??? IT DOES NOT WORK & that’s what I have against DEMOS, but do not have a psychotic HATE for anyone personally, just think they are phony, power mongers.
I am one of the many “invisible” Americans who like to know the kind of man we are putting in the White House. I have no problem voting for experience, in fact I like the fact that the man I am voting for HAS experience. I will vote John McCain, I know him, I like him, he’s comfortable, he’s reassuring, he has experience (truly, that is not a bad thing folks). I don’t agree with him on everything, but at least he knows what he is talking about. Obama can’t answer a question without a telepromptor. He can’t spontaneously answer any policy question in detail. He can’t explain to you how it would work or be paid for. He is like this vaporous figurehead. Sort of like the Wizard behind the curtains in the Wizard of Oz. I suspect that in spite of all the media hoopla, come November you will see a very decided victory for John McCain.
How can someone soooooo old sound just like a whiny newborn.
I don’t know if I should change his depends or get him some warm milk.

Even FOX News finds Obama more exciting!!!
I am AMAZED at how the McCain camp whines and complains about how much media coverage Obama is getting. WHY wouldnt he? Aside from the fact that he is a presidential nominee, he is MUCH more charismatic, well spoken and d*mn…just plain interesting. As far has his views goes vs. McCains views well….Im voting for barack not because Im this HUGE supporter of his, but because McCains views are retarded, poorly thought out and just plain idiotic. Every time this guy speaks I want to throw something at the tv. He constantly mentions “The surge worked!” or constantly downplays Obama. He has no clue about the economy and any “RATIONAL” person can see that all he cares about IS this “war”. WHAT WAR?!?! He has not given ONE REAL reason why our military is over there. NOT one REAL reason what victory means. I dont expect everyone to be on Obamas side but my god why on earth would you vote for someone like McCain. Heck, if anything stay home on election day..ugh.
