McCain to Announce VP Pick?
Manchester, NH–
Tonight when reporters boarded Straight Talk Air they rushed to the middle section of the plane in between the press seats and where Senator John McCain sits with his staff. We were trying to hunt down this evening’s hot rumor: that McCain may pick his Vice-Presidential choice in the coming days.
Journalists on campaign planes are sat in a pecking order with embeds regulated to the rows in the back, right before the television crews, so it was Elisabeth Bumiller with the New York Times and Jonathan Alter with Newsweek who were at the front of the pack. Bumiller knocked on the partition separating the press from the candidate and to her surprise the presumptive Republican nominee pulled back the curtain and quipped, “What do you want you little jerks?”
As the rest of the press tried to push their way to the front of the pack, Bumiller asked McCain if he was going to announce his number two tomorrow. He brushed off the question, not answering and instead giving a mischievous grin.
Traveling Press Secretary, Brooke Buchanan then came over and pulled the curtain closed saying, “We will have no announcements today” and Senior Advisor Mark Salter said he had, “No comment and he is “not authorized to say anything” regarding the choice.
When McCain Air took flight Salter came back to the press section and faced a flurry of questions about the Veepstakes. He pressed that there will be “no announcement today” and “no comment,” even adding that he is “not denying, confirming or commenting” on the rumor of a possible running mate pick.
Salter said McCain gave everyone a stern talking-to regarding speaking to the press about the Vice-Presidential choice and had made it very clear to him and the whole staff that “none of us are to comment until he surprises us with his choice.”
Carl Cameron spoke to high-level sources within the McCain campaign and his reporting on the topic earlier today leaves the possibility open of a pick this week, “One source, with direct knowledge of the senator’s thinking and of the campaign’s machinations says there will be no announcement today or tomorrow morning. Another top insider says we should NOT throw cold water on the idea that McCain could announce his running mate this week. Still a third said unless McCain wakes up in the next 2 days with a decision, chances are ‘remote.’ ”
Announcing his running mate this week would draw media attention away from Barack Obama’s trip overseas as would hype surrounding a possible selection—which is what this may very well be. But, McCain’s schedule keeps the speculation going with an event tomorrow in New Hampshire where Mitt Romney has a vacation home and a stop later in the week in New Orleans where the governor, Bobby Jindal, has long been rumored to be a possible choice.

why doesn’t Mccain consider a woman as VP selection?
I PRAY McCain picks Romney, he is the ONLY sensible one!!
MSM bias is rampart. Disgusting!! Voters won’t have Obama rammed down our throughts not matter how hard the MSM try.
Journalism as I knew it is DEAD. Talking heads or personalities–that is all that is left.
Pick Romney, pick Romney !!!!!
Where doesn’t Romney have a vactation house? The choice will be one of the following: Mike Pence, John Kasich and Chris Cox. Oh, and John Ashcroft.
I hope he does announce his vp pick this week. That is a great way to pop Obamas bubble. It will take attention away from Obamas photo ops for sure. Obama is supposed to be doing this trip in his capacity as a senator but instead he is using this for free campaign ads. The tax payers are paying for this little stunt of his.
McCain08
I hope McCain picks Romney. His intelligence, business acumen, strong moral and family values and unselfish dedication for this country’s welfare should be invaluable assets to the campaign. Go McCain-Romney.
Although my conclusion is that it matters little who Senator McCain selects as it is increasingly apparent that he will lose this election. I do hope that he selects a running mate who is sensible, bi-partisan and someone who can add real talking points for America to consider. Romney is more about himself and the same old politics of fear, slogans and no action. I hope we are allowed to consider the candidates based on their policies and programs, and not bigotry, hearsay, and outright twisting of the truth. Is it too much to ask that our candidates act like adults and focus on what they will do as opposed to attacking their opponent?
There are a lot of likely Republican candidates for McCain’s VP selection:
Joe Liberman(might as well be a Republican)
Larry Craig
Mark Foley
Donald Rumsfeld
Mike Huckabee
Mitt Romney
Scooter Libby
Karl Rove
Michael Brown
Dan Quail
These are just a few. Feel free to add to the list.
Face it, Obama is a disgrace to
the entire world. McCain is a confused
old blundering boob. Let’s get some lunch.
We want Romney to be his running mate!!
WE SEE HIM AS THE PRESIDENT in 2012.
Humble but yet has integrity.
He loves America!!
He is the greatest example of America!!
Go Mitt!
We will be with you to send Mccain all the way to White House 08′
We all love you!!
Who cares who Mccain picks. It won’t make a difference anyway. Romney is a sleezeball certified flip flopper so I don’t think he will help much. He won’t pick Bobby Jindal because the far right won’t accept that.
If McCain wants to have even the slightest chance of winning, he better select Romney as Vice President. The grassroots of the Republican party love Romney and will be the only reason they come out to get McCain elected.
McCain must pick a woman in order to take away from Obama’s ex-Hillary voters. I like Mrasha Blackburn and Sarah Pahlin. These conservatives will also add some credibility to his consistant wooing of conservative voters and will sweeten his appeal to evangelicals.
EMBED Producers. WOW!!! Look at the photos at the top of the page!
Look at all that ethnic diversity - it’s like a rainbow!
I can’t wait for the Republican Convention when the camera operators keep turning their lenses on the three people of color that will be there.
“Look at that, I’ve been on television 8 times in the last half hour!”
Do you think W will make a brief appearance there? Gosh and golly each and every Republican is SO proud of everything he’s accomplished.
Oh, just curious. Those of you who fervently supported the occupa… war in Iraq, what unit did you serve in? The military is low on its recruitment, and it was courageous of you to serve in a mission you believed in - and still believe in.
Crickets…
MITT ROMNEY!! yes his will make a great boost for Mc Cain.
THANKS
MITT ROMNEY!! a strong economy his’s will make a great boost for Mc Cain.
THANKS
McCain should pick Rob Zombie
or Ward Churchill for VP.
Throw the hippies a bone.
To “dk in tn” who says that journalism is dead. You may indeed be right on that point, but you only have Foxnews & every media station and paper owned by Rupert Murdoch to thank for this. His people have brought journalism to a point not seen since the days of the Spanish/American War and days of Yellow Journalism. Ad to that the steady diet of Junk Food Journalism that the Foxnews website serves up everyday to the ignorant masses who gobble it up without any question and it’s easy to see how the News has gotten itself into this kind of mess.
I like Rommey as vp but would that hurt his chances of the leader of the evangels to endose him?
Sikuvit, you are crazy Fox is the only news that tells it right. The rest are in the tank for
Obama
Personally I think it has to be Romney with just two topics energy and the economy(with what I’m hearing about Texes thinking of moving) maybe the dear old rev if the dems bring it up LOL.
He brings to much to the table you know private weath maker and all, Michigan, the North east, Utah?
Jindal is to young you know the experience card and all, one for the future. Anyhow I beleive he will force the issue of off shore drilling. Just like old Charlie over their in FL popular governers can help in the old college thing we got going here.
WE know who Mccain will pick!! He will pick the person who serves Mccain well!!
Mitt Romney is the one working hardest in this election for Mccain!! He went all over the states to have fundraisings for Mccain.
“Good leader will be a good servant at the same time!”
We know Mitt will be the President in 2012 and HE HAS ONLY QUALITIES THAT THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES NEEDS TO HAVE!!
MITT ROMNEY=INTEGRITY, WISE, HUMBLE, KIND, LOVE AND SO TALENTED IN MANY WAYS.
HE IS A MODEL OF EXCELLENT AND HE WILL LEAD US IN THE RIGHT PATH!!
WE BELIEVE IN MCCAIN/ROMNEY 08′
McCain and Romney
Pick Romneygo McCain 2008
Bobby Jindal as VP would snap everyone’s heads back and give McCain some of the attention he deserves. Besides he would appeal to Independents, some Hillary supporters (like me and others) who will vote for McCain over Obama, Catholic voters, and he is young and has a stellar record in his home state with good economic sense. Go McCain/Jindal 08!!!
Please please please don’t choose Jindal. McCain will lose the election for sure if he selects Jindal as his running mate. Romney is a great choice, but I can’t help but wonder if he’s too conservative for the middle-of-the-road folks, or the Hillocrats who might be inclined to switch parties this year. He’d definitely be an asset on the economy, which– as the number one issue for most Americans– make him seem like the perfect choice. McCain is strong on international issues, and Romney is strong on the economy. Whatever it takes to beat Obama.
Pick Cindy McCain……..she’s such a nice one.
Throw Hillary under the bus and pick Condi…..
If McCain’s campaign runs on his service to the United States and his patriotism, the why would he pick Mitt Romney who stated on the stump that his sons did not need to volunteer in Iraq because they are helping him campaign. They are helping him campaign with the funds of those whose sons and daughters are fighting the war in Iraq so much for patriotism!
No I do not watch fox news but how many times do I have to submit my opinion for it to appear?
Pick Cheney! Continuity between administrations is really important and Cheney hasn’t made a bad call yet. Everything is working out perfectly!
Cheney would be the one. I mean, if you start something you should finish it, and Cheney has done basically everything that his supporters or detractors would have expected. Cheney is da man. He hasn’t made a mistake yet!
[...] The Vice-Presidential buzz continues to follow John McCain today, but at a town hall it was a supporter who asked about the much talked about potential number two, Mitt Romney. The questioner said that he admired McCain’s ability to forgive and asked if he had forgiven his former rival turned surrogate. [...]
McCain/Romney, now there is a ticket I will more than gladly vote for.
Anyone McCain picks would make a better ticket than an inexperienced machine politician like Obama… Obama votes present in the Senate when he does vote otherwise he’s like Durbin. Obama doesn’t do anything but throw out quips about the change we need and the hope he will bring…so think I Romney for his business sense and good family man ,or Hukabee for his honesty and integrity who improves McCain success in the South … McCain is the anti Obama vote… unless you like government like Cook County Illinois with the highest taxes and most corrupt bureaucratic governemnt in the country!!!
McCain’s staff will keep putting this roomer out every day thinking it will draw the story away from Obama. I guess only Fox will keep reporting it after the first day. funny hu
Larry Craig or Mark Foley would be good picks for McCain.
McCain’s choice is easy, Huckabee will make a fine VP
Romney is a great choice for VP. I think he has a lot of talents and would bring a super charged boost to the McCain campaign. I think several important states (they’re all important) will vote for a McCain Romney ticket.
Mccain’s best choice is Jindal. No doubt about it! I can see the liberal attacks…..Mccain is too old, Jindal is too young and together they have too much experience.
