Obama on Jesse Jackson

Jesse Jackson since the Reverend was overheard saying crude remarks about Senator Obama on an open mic, the presumptive Democratic nominee told reporters on a four hour flight from Chicago to San Diego late Saturday night. The two did speak just prior to the incident, however. “We had actually discussed some of the concerns he had raised about my fatherhood speech,” Obama shared.

Last month, Obama bluntly said that many African Americans had shirked their family responsibilities during his “Fatherhood Speech” at a Chicago church. The candidate often urges African American parents to “parent” – to turn off the TV, put down the video games, and enforce curfews for their children.

During an interview with FOX News, Reverend Jackson, irritated that Obama was talking down to the community, made the controversial comments during an interview with FOX News. While Jackson quickly apologized and Obama immediately accepted that apology, there has been much ado about the interchange.

Focusing on what the two do agree on, Obama told reporters he and Jackson share positions on fixing “structural inequalities” in our society, including health care, early childhood education, creating jobs, and closing the achievement gap.

But the senator stands by his tough love message. “We also have to recognize that there is a particular problem when more than a half of African American children are growing up without a father in the house and often times not even knowing their father. That is a problem and I won’t back up one bit in asserting that that’s a problem that we have to be honest about,” he said.

When asked how he responded to Jackson expressing concern to his “Fatherhood Speech,” remarks that were particularly blunt he delivered on Father’s Day at a Chicago church, Obama said, “I think it would be hard for him to disagree with that since many of the things I have said are the things that he has said in the past.”

While Obama may not be able to change society when it comes to personal responsibility by passing laws, he said, “Obviously I’ve sparked a conversation as a consequence of my speech and I do think part of the role of president is to offer his or her opinions about critical issues, not all of which can be solved by government, but make a big difference in the quality of our society.”

john mccain once again asserted at a friendly townhall meeting why he was more prepared than senator Obama to handle the proverbial “3 am” phone call: “usually i’m already up peeing at that hour anyway…”

Sounds like Bonney Capp didn’t take any English writing classes.

Dear Journalist,

Is it possible on our sentence structure?

Please re-read the first sentence of your article. You have many run on sentences throughout the article. I stopped reading it half way through.

Please improve.

“Jesse Jackson since the Reverend was overheard saying crude remarks about Senator Obama on an open mic, the presumptive Democratic nominee told reporters on a four hour flight from Chicago to San Diego late Saturday night.”

I’m sorry, but that first “sentence” is atrocious. Is it really so important to have up-to-the-minute news that FOX can’t afford a little proofing?

Of course, it’s not just FOX. The death toll of the English language is ringing loudly across the internet.

It would be a surprise to no-one to say that the invisibility of the narrator is one of his/her greatest strengths. Here, unfortunately, our narrator –”Bonney”– has been very careless. How? Well… To start, she affirms as our journalistic narrator that Obama has, in fact, “talked down to the community.” This is a statement that Bonney makes, you see, without any doubt whatsoever. Yet anyone can see that though there is a chance, of course, that Obama has in fact been patronizing to the African Americam community, there is no real certainty as to whether or not it is so. I personally think that this is not the case, but who is to say? Additionally, the confusion of “the community” with the “african american community” is a strange occlusion on the part of Bonney that is difficult to understand. Her first sentence, also, is ungrammatical nonsense. Things are confusing enough, I think, without such careless and lazy writing. Often it seems as though our politicians are less to blame for popular contradictions than the conveniently invisible narrators that profit from clicks upon clicks, links upon links. Next time, Bonney, I’m sure you will take a bit more time to get it right.

The Jackson uproar has a strange ring to it. It is almost as if there is something wrong with blacks if they are not unananimous on any subject, particularly politics. Why are they held to a higher standard? Can they not disagree without being told that they are racially unfaithful? I think the beauty of white politics is that massive disagreement is allowed. Such disagreement puts both candidate and idea to a searching examination. Please let the black communtiy grow politically without hinting that they are wrong to embrace different values.

Reverand Jessie Jackson, such a wonderful expample of clean respectful speech of a spiritual leader. So much for speaking the truth in love.

If a republican had said that they wanted to rip Obama’s nuts off, would have resulted in endless outrage by the media and if an elected or appointed public offical would have been forced to resign.
But, special people get away with the same thing,
Double standard

Government CAN make a difference. Legislators can reduce the governmental incentives which contribute to breaking up families, and encouraging irresponsible behavior. Just a few suggestions:

. Prosecute Planned Parenthood offices which refuse to report statutory rape to authorities for prosecution.

. Tax pornography and hip-hop songs which promote irresponsible behavior.

. Restructure governmental aid programs to encourage marriage, and discourage promiscuity.

This would be much easier to read if the grammar were correct. Was this piece put through any kind of proof reading process? Still trying to figure out what the first sentence means. Please take this into consideration when writing your next story. Good Luck.

I honestly believe that Jesse Jacksons apolygy was very insincere. When a person gives a remark with a gesture and a grimace on his face then he meant what he said. If I was Obama (and glad I’m not) I would forgive but not forget.

He has been saying the same thing since 2002. I don’t understand the buzz.
He will be an awesome president!
God bless America!

Very interesting….having spoken just before the incident….you ever get the feeling this was all planned even the apologies afterward s. It is my opinion that there are two forces within the black community now the Jackson and the Obama group. The Jackson group are a grievous group who continue to cling to slavery injustices and it is this groups which alienates many white blue collar males. The Obama group has attracted many whites for they do not go around blaming the government on black problems….however the church Obama belonged to for 20 years sure did…so you wonder whether Obama is simply saying what he needs to attract whites but still believing in black nationalism. So by having Jackson do this “act” on TV he tries to separate the grievous black from Obama so Obama can attract more white voters to his cause….knowing full well that both groups are 99.999% in Obama’s court already. Jackson is too political suave to do such a stunt by accident…there was a reason for it from the very beginning. Amazing what tactics politicians maneuver through for political advantage. Obama continues to smoke screen the voters on who he is…and they best find out soon…he remains a far left liberal person who background has both inexperience, false values and diverts attention away from what he truly is.

Greetings to All!

I think it would be great if Obama were to choose Jackson as Vice President!

They could agree to disagree for four years and then Mr. Jackson would be in line for his Dream post as President if Mr. Obama were in any way unable to carry out his duties.

Power to the People, Power to the Rainbow Coalition!

Sarcastically Yours, Lynn

Interestingly enough,Obama gave the interview dressed in a steel mesh jockstrap-just in case Jesse jackson was lurking nearby.

Some body please stop and think about what is going on :

* First Obama disowns his pastor of 20 years. Once that is announced by Obama,
we never hear anything from the Pastor and everything is quiet and back to normal (For Obama)
Done! that problem is taken care of (For Obama).

* The Flag lapel is Warren , Taken Off,. Then after pressure is put on Obama in the Media about it ,…It’s put back on jacket, Permanent (this time it looks like) Done, took care of that problem.
Thing are back to Normal (For Obama) he carries on with his aims…

* Jesse Jackson’s makes negative comments about Obama. Then goes right out to the Media to apologize. So what you say…..well , it sends the message to the
Voters that there, that there is a distinction between the two and they don’t view political issues on the same level….(Obama is different than Jackson)….(he does not share Jackson’s views) etc….
Done! Took care of that lingering thought that may be in the Voters minds .

and So on…..

Doesn’t this sound a little peculiar….Do you think that just perhaps these is a slight chance
these incidences were perhaps, planned to happen as they did ?? what do you think ?? No??
No, it must be just me ….

All I have to say is that I am impressed with the amount of diversity in the Fox reporters. I mean, it appears to me by your pictures, above, that you have a good cross-section of reporters from various backgrounds. Way to go! Very impressive. I can see there is no agenda here at all.

Jesse is only sorry he got caught revealing how he truly feels. I have always believed him to be a poverty pimp. Why does anyone still feel the need to address him as “Reverend”? He is an opportunist hypocrite, who needs to go somewhere and sit down and shut the hell up. He is mad because Obama has surpassed both of his campaigns and wants people (black men who are deadbeat dads) to be held accountable for their actions. I am sick and tired of people who always play the victim. Microphone or no microphone, Jesse Jackson said exactly what he meant and tried to unsuccessfully cover his tracks.

My question to fox news is why not play the entire tape? Put it all out there so Jesse can reflect, hopefully repent for being an arrogant, woman-chasing, publicity chasing hypocrite!

you jesse jackson i really do not know who he thinks he is, when Ims made his remarks he had all kinds of marks falling at him what happened to freedom of speech thats what everyone seems to say, at the comedy clubs or tv. blacks are always saying something about whites cracking on them putting them down. but Ims says something it’s a whole different story. jackson he just says he’s sorry and thats all. America it’s all double stander. everyone has to watch what you say. that’s why I just keep to my self and don’t say a word, I don’t make friends with noone it’s not worth it now a days. Al sharpton and j. jackson they are the ones that have the problem with white people always asuming. one day it will all come out people will really see how people really are your see.

These guys are all stinking hippocrates. Obama “I still love you Jesse”, “I forgive that you publicly humiliated me and you really hate me and you’re only voting for me because you want a black president”. Bah Humbug. Be honest. Some black people see through Obama’s arrogance; he did talk down to all black men because the “stepping up to the plate” problem exists in all races, not just black. Women need to keep their pants on or take birth control. He also insulted the people who “cling to guns and religion” - he continues to lie to you all every day that he flip flopps on another one of his “original” policies. Hope you all see the light before November.

Hey SUSAN, Mayhap you should have finished school. Then you would know to proof read your paragraph. If you haven’t been watching the news or rely on Fox for your news. Then I guess you wouldn’t know that Obama is not blaming the “Whites” for students not finishing school. He is not blaming them for the “Blacks” economic status. That is his whole point. Parents need to become more involved. And Jackson is calling him an Uncle Tom for it. Jackson wants reparations, Obama wants responsibility.

First of all, those of y’all who are stuck on the whole english compostion of the artical are misisng the real point of it. Stick to the artical not the grammatical errors of it.

Second, I’m tired of the mistakes of slavery in the past being brought up. This country has come a long way from where it was in the 40’s and 50’s. So those of y’all who are stuck on the “injustices of the past”… MOVE ON! Focus on the injustices in the present that need to be addressed! It’s not just the African Americans who have shirked their parental responsibilities… IT’S ALL PARENTS! I know of white and hispanic parents who pop thier kids infront of the TV or video games because they “Can’t deal with their kids.”

In my opinion this presidential race has become too racial. You know, we are ONE country. Remember, it’s called THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, NOT the unites black states of america or the united white states of america. I mean seriously, get real.

Jesse Jackson has alot of nerves. After he had not one, but two babies out side of his marriage. Some one need to cut his ball off.

You mean to say AAs have to be told fathers should be in the home??? Good grief! Can’t they think for themselves.? Don’t bother answering that one.
That whole deal was a set up. Just another way of keeping Obama in the free media market and gain more sympathy for him.
The N. Yorker pic. was hilarious.!!

Senator Obama needs to tell dear old Reverand Jessie and Sharpton that he is doing fine without them. They should go home and shut up. I am old enought to remember when Jessie was running for president–thank heaven we saw him as a joke then–and still all these years later a joke looking for 15 minutes of fame. People need to realize it is a new day and a new generation. People like Jackson–can’t handle the truth–the race speech was brillant as was the father’s day speech.Senator Obama is an honest man who truely believes in every citizen being responsible in and for their life’s work and duties. All of us need to hear some truths sometime–if the show fits wear it!!
