Obama to Address “More than 75,000″ at Democratic Convention

Just released by the DNC:

DEMOCRATS THROW OPEN DOORS OF CONVENTION, OBAMA TO ACCEPT PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION ON
CLOSING NIGHT OF 2008 DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION IN FRONT OF A CROWD OF MORE THAN 75,000

Final Day of Convention Program to Move to Denver’s INVESCO Field at Mile High

DENVER - Breaking the mold of traditional political Conventions, the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) today announced that Senator Barack Obama will accept the Democratic nomination for President of the United States at Denver’s INVESCO Field at Mile High. INVESCO Field can accommodate more than 75,000 people and will be the site of the 2008 Democratic Convention’s final day of programming on Thursday, August 28, 2008.

“The Democratic Party is nominating a true change candidate this August, and it is only fitting that we make some big changes in how we put on the Convention,” said Governor Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). “Senator Obama’s candidacy has generated an enormous amount of excitement and interest, not only in the Democratic Party but also in the 2008 Convention. By bringing the last night of the Convention out to the people, we will be able to showcase Barack Obama’s positive, people-centered vision for our country in a big way.”

“Barack Obama’s campaign for change has inspired millions of Americans and brought people into the political process who might never have been involved,” said Convention Co-Chair Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius. “This change in the Convention program will allow thousands of first-time participants a chance to take part. I can’t think of a better Convention finale for our nominee who has made reaching out to voters a hallmark of his campaign.”

“When we said we wanted to ‘bring down the walls,’ open up this Convention like never before and truly speak to the American people, we meant it,” said Leah D. Daughtry, CEO of the DNCC. “On August 28, we will offer grassroots Democrats, who have turned out in record numbers this year, the opportunity to witness history shoulder to shoulder with thousands of Americans standing up for the change our country desperately needs.”

“Senator Obama and the DNCC have truly brought the community into the Convention,” said Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, Jr. “This decision will enable thousands of residents from Colorado, the Rocky Mountain West and across the nation to witness history first hand. What a way to fire up our grassroots activists as we head into the fall campaign.”

Primetime Convention activities Monday, August 25 through Wednesday, August 27 will continue to be held at the Pepsi Center. The final day of the Convention on Thursday, August 28, including the nomination acceptance speech of Senator Barack Obama, will be held at INVESCO Field at Mile High, also located in downtown Denver. Daytime Convention events, including meetings of the Democratic caucuses and councils will continue to be held at the Colorado Convention Center.

The DNCC announced today that a special block of “Community” credentials will be reserved for Colorado residents for Thursday night’s program at INVESCO Field. Details about how to sign up and receive a “Community Credential” for the last night of the Convention will be released in the coming weeks.

“This is the type of Convention people will want to experience together with family, friends and neighbors, and we hope this move enables thousands of Americans to come together, experience history and put Senator Obama on the path to victory in November,” Daughtry added.

Obama may be giving a speech to “more than 75,000″ in Denver, but 74,990 of them will be ROFLAO thinking about the McCain landslide in November.

Comment by Lew

Big deal. I won’t even watch ANOTHER change speech. I all CHANGED out.

Comment by Daudi

I’d love to see McCain fill a stadium of even 100 people! Haw haw. They’d all be asleep before he made it to the second paragraph of his speech, anyway. The way the two campaigns are being run speaks volumes…McCain is stacking the halls with sad, bitter Rove-ites, while Obama seems to actually have a vision to take to the country and an exciting way of delivering it. I keep asking myself, though, how will the Republicans steal this one??

I see a lot of buzz from detractors about this. Arrogant, Rockstar, Flip Flopper? I guess when you are done denigrating Senator Obama, you might have time to look in the mirror and see your own failings since he has achieved far more than you will ever accomplish. You might have time to look at the economy and see the failings of the Republican party led government that has been in power since 1996. At what point will you then become an American and a Patriot and become engaged rather than compliantly toe the line that others tell you to? For the first time in generations, a candidate has been chosen by the PEOPLE, rather than the establishment despite all the treachery, money and poisons that they could throw at him, and by proxy the American people. A candidate who is INCLUSIVE of all, rather than only those on the inside. I think it is admirable that Obama chose a venue which will allow ALL, rather than a connected few, to attend and be a part of what has been only in word a process that is inclusive of all Americans for way too long. I see you complaining, I see you whining, I see you doing absolutely NOTHING other than that. If you are not a part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Since you hate the guy so much for all he has apparently done to you, don’t vote for him, vote for Mccain, the guy who has been in Government service for 30 years, whose family has been in Government service for three generations. None of the current state of the country could possibly be his responsibility right? He will fix everything really fast that he could not after all these years, right? Wake up, these are the same people who have raped this country and handed it over to foreign interests, all in the name of greed. A President who is inclusive of all Americans, not just those who pay him, what an alien idea!

Ah… The convention hall could not hold enough worshipers to satisfy The Ego. Also, do I dare to suggest that this will eliminate the presence of the delegates who are still holding the Clinton votes and the possibility of sulking presence? Or even half the hall leaving?

Now, let’s see if you’re going to publish this comment. It seems that Fox is getting cold feet (as opposed to a shiver up the leg.)

“The Democratic Party is nominating a true change candidate this August, and it is only fitting that we make some big changes in how we put on the Convention,” said Governor Howard Dean

There is no such thing as “true change” in national politics these days. If he were so different the democratic party wouldn’t support him because supporting change implies that there is something wrong with the way you are doing things currently. Change is never supported by the establishment, so when the establishment starts talking about how wonderful their “true change” candidate is, you should be skeptical.

The same goes for McCain, it’s not like he’s bringing anything new to the table either.

If you want real change in this country, worry about Congress. Stop putting the incumbents back in office– they are the real obstacle to change and progress in America.

Please go to blog.pumapac.org. Please donate $10.00 so Puma can get buses to take people to the convention. We need to let the dnc know that we no longer want or need them. Obama was selected and not elected. If they override the 18 million people that voted for Clinton and put Obama as the nominee then we will vote for McCain.

Comment by Sue Hal

Are the people attending going to have to follow the “Green Rules”? Will they have to pay for their carbon footprint to get to the stadium and also for all the carbon emitted during the event?
Where does the money paid for the carbon footprint go? Who owns the carbon credit company that collects the money? Just a few questions to ponder, while thinking of all the MONEY being spent on this event.

Barack Obama is an egomaniac on a roll… Americans supporting McCain need to come together and save our country from this arrogant man who cares more about himself than he does about our country. Everything he does is about him…

He will be giving his acceptance speech on the anniversary of Dr. M L King’s “I have a dream” speech so you can be sure Obama will repeat this phrase over and over again.

I pray Obama’s momentum will be stopped after he holds this convention which will be attended by a frenzied mob worshipping Barack H. Obama.

WILLIAM : What planet are you on? Obama was NOT chosen by the people. He was given the nomination. And if you think for one minute you will have a better life with him as president then you and people like you need to do some research, honestly look at the facts, read between the lines !! By the way, no, I’m not a Bush supporter. I happen to be a life long democrat.

in response to William. We are not all angry and vindictive. Did it ever occur to you that we just disagree with his politics? you seem much more bent on worshipping the man rather than thinking through his policies and beliefs.
It seems to me that America has voted into the oval office Republicans in 5 of the last 7 elections. think about that….71% of elections won by a republican. At what point do democrats realize that it is not about party lines, but rather what the people of America want. Granted, we don’t all love everything the republicans hold to be true. However, there is one overriding policy that the majority of Americans believe in. That is the free market system…the land of opportunity. We do not believe in socialism or income redistribution. I could get into the true reasons why this fails, but you wouldn’t really listen anyway. Mind you, I said what America believes in, not republicans. What mainstream America wants is to be left alone. Unfortunately for Democrats, they seem to be so pompous that they believe it is bad campaigns, or evil republican tactics that keep them from the presidency. Sadly, you seem to believe we are all mindless followers who don’t know how to think.

Comment by Renee California

I had to laugh when I heard on the news that Obama was going to Invesco Field for his acceptance speech. I gaurantee that most of the people there will be there to watch some rock stars perform like they did in Oregon and which the news never said anything about. This guy has the biggest ego ever! Talk about arrogant! He is a nobody who wishes to run the most powerful country in the world and has no experience in Foreign affairs much less the economy or anything else. Two years as a Senator who didn’t vote on controversial issues 160 times does not cut it for someone who wants to be President of the United States. It seems this guy always knew he would run for the presidency and wanted his A– covered. Talk about audacity! It amazes me that people don’t see the phoney he is just because he can read a speech written for him well and do the acting, shmoozing. The Media’s darling is a paper tiger.

Wow, I can’t beleive how negative this blog is. Ego-maniac? Seriously? People, he is running for president. While I understand how the unintelligent would consider this move to Mile High “egotistical”. I would expect educated people to see that this is a great idea to get his message across to people who wouldnt normally get a chance to hear him orate live. Just because McCain could never fill a stadium, doesn’t mean it is anything but a wholesome gesture. To all that think this is a move to satisfy an ego, vote for McCain (Bush II) and maybe they then the Gov’t will get a chance to draft your children into the 100 years Iraq war.

Dave, all of you white collar republicans can afford to take time off to vote for yourselves. Us democratic, hardworking, hourly employees cant exactly ask you tie-wearers to take an hour off to vote against you people. If 100% of the populace voted, you republicans wouldn’t stand a chance.

I would like to hear from just one Obama supporter that can name something that Obama has done (and not stolen from someone else.) since he has been in office. Just one accomplishment. So far he has chanced his stance on everything. And before you say that McCain does I will agree. Regarding drilling he has changed his stance because he heard from the people. He knows he works for us and not the other way around. With Obama he will have you worshiping at his feet once he becomes dictator.

and the USA. He will just have to settle for looking like a total dork.

Not to mention double social security and a capital gains tax on oil that will come back on the public. Gees why would we not want Obama? Can you say TAX, TAX, TAX everywhere and everything TAXED to death. And look at Cuba and othe socialist countries, they do NOT work. You have the very rich, that would be the DNC and their buddies, and the very poor, that would be all of us living in shacks and paying for their big houses and jets.

Maybe he should explain to these folks why everyone should now have to pay higher interest rates on loans/credit cards to cover those who desire to use the bankruptcy code for their own purposes. I do believe that in certain rare cases some degree of flexibility should exist for using this protection for those called up into the military involuntarily and very unusual circumstances for medical issue (emergency surgery/hospitalization…not purely elective optional surgery, not cosmetic)….however these should already receive some degree of “understanding” in the current legal proceedings….but Obama’s desire is to greatly expand the ability to get out from self generated debt and have various protections by entry into the service….very possibly volunteered. As protection is expanded and more and more debtors are released from obligations everyone elses interest rates will go up to cover the bank losses. A liberal court proceedings may indeed create huge loopholes which will not limit the abuses that everyone has to pay for. Another socialistic program of wealth re-distribution for those who want someone else to pay their bills/obligations. I do agree some rare variances should be allowed but not abused as liberal courts always do. Think health care costs are high…imagine where it would go if hospitals do not get paid due to excesses in bankruptcy court.

is this a nominating convention or rock concert. obama needs to put the breaks on his vanity. this is superficially contrived to conjur up the good ole days of 1960 when jfk accepted his partys nomination on the last day of the convention in the los angeles memorial coliseum, one big difference that was a exciting contested convention between jfk and lbj averall harriman and others.this convention is manufactorerd as if barack obama is descending from the colorado rocky mist on to invesco feild as some heavenly messiah from down high to save the country but in actuality it is no more than empty platitudes and slogans and a cult of personalty to make the country, relive a forgone era of so called prosperity under the energetic kennedys , the democrats always try to relive there glory years the 60s and the watergate era what actually did that era give the country? a welfare state under beautifully crafted feel good words of the great society which was no more than a whoring and victimization of america under feel good slogan which trapped its citzens into groups and endless moral depravity and of course it gave us 4 years of a naive peanut farmer named james earl carter who gave us the misery index from the saltan of malaise. barack obama iis nothing new he just another mcgovern running against a admitedely weak republican nominee. in the end as in past elections the great silent majority will decide this election and my guess is that in the end it will go with the man who represents them instead of a man thats more indicative of harvard yard or universitry of chicago faculty lounge.
